    Crudo & wings
    Rachel O.

Wowww! I've been meaning to get down to Makmak for a while, & I'm so glad I finally could. Lunch here was phenomenal. The stand out dishes were the crispy wings & the fresh crudo. The wings were tossed in a sweet & spicy (but really not that spicy at all) sauce & served with ranch. They were perfectly crispy on the outside, deliciously tender on the inside. The crudo of the day was fluke, served with shaved red onion, celery, castelvetrano olives (my favorite!!), caper berries, olive oil, & flaky sea salt. My mouth is watering typing this up right now... Two totally different starter dishes with totally different vibes. Both were SO unbelievably good. I got a burger as well, & it was nothing to sneeze at. It was a bit overdone & the gluten-free bun was a classic gluten-free bun (it had the taste & consistency of cardboard & fell apart pretty quickly) but it was still tasty. I think they served it with too many fries. I simply could not eat more than half of them. Makmak is currently BYOB - not sure why or for how long, just something to note if you want a bevvy with your meal. I can't wait to go back!

RI Food Fights' Lord of the Wings was the reason we finally made it to makmak Eatery in Cranston, and I'm so glad it did. From the moment we walked in, the space felt super warm and cozy, the kind of neighborhood spot you instantly relax into. We ordered the Thai Chili Wings, Tomato Bisque, and a side of Coleslaw, and honestly, everything was fantastic. The wings were a clear standout: perfectly cooked with bold, balanced flavor that easily earns them a spot among the best wings in Rhode Island. The tomato bisque which came with a garlic crostini was comforting and rich, and the coleslaw was fresh and well-seasoned, not just an afterthought. The service deserves a shoutout too. The staff, and especially our server, were professional, attentive, and genuinely friendly, which elevated the whole experience. All in all, a great experience from start to finish. makmak Eatery is now firmly one of our top picks for wings, and we'll absolutely be back.

Cute newer spot. Actually spoke with the owner crystal (I believe) very nice. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner Seating is size friendly, smaller spot, but accommodating. Parking is off street, fair amount of spots. I would recommend making a reservation, as it was busy busy when we first got there. They are currently BYOB, which is good to know ahead of time. They supply glasses and accompaniments though. Food was good, seasoned, good portion. Omelette was made perfectly. Will be back to try the dinner menu.

Fish and chips were great tasting and lightly bathed.

The restaurant was nicely decorated and charming. The staff were professional and attentive. We enjoyed our food and will definitely return.

Went to Makmak for dinner last night and really enjoyed it!! Right now they are temporarily BYOB, so be sure to check that before you head in. I started with the bean and escarole soup and it was delicious, I thoroughly enjoyed it. We also shared the calamari. It was okay, it could have been fried longer. The goat cheese and beet salad was awesome. I would definitely head in again!

So excited to try Makmak after hearing great reports from so many friends. When my friend and I first walked in the door, we were warmly greeted and seated immediately (we had a reservation), but we were also struck by how LOUD it was in the restaurant. I mean, it was seriously loud in there! Makmak is small - I'm guessing about 50 seats? It was packed and the noise level was such that we had to keep leaning in towards our server and asking her to repeat herself when she was telling us about the specials. We ordered the Caesar salad and the focaccia bread with dipping oil. The bread was served warm and was excellent. For entrees I ordered the chicken piccata with gnocchi instead of rice, and my friend ordered the pink vodka ravioli. Both were good, not the best we've had, but still good. I was charged extra for the gnocchi substitution, which was a little odd considering the chicken marsala on the menu is served with gnocchi so I don't really see much difference. Service was excellent, but the noise really got to us. Makmak is a nice place and we went there hoping to enjoy a relaxing dinner with conversation, but it was so loud the night we went that we struggled to hear each other. Glad to have visited, but most likely will look for a quieter place the next time I go out for dinner with a friend.

Had an amazing first time dinner at Makmak Eatery. The owner was so involved the whole night, and she was a doll. Our waitress Tory, was personable, attentive and just awesome. Food was incredible. We had stuffed mushrooms, which were so delicious. They brought us complimentary wings which were some of the best wings we've had!!! We had the bolognese and the chicken picatta. Both were absolutely delicious. It's a BYOB which is a bonus! We can't wait to go back!!

We had a really nice visit. Hubby got the burger, the bun is really cool it's made with squid ink. I got the fish and chips, nice size. Only downfall is I got really sick that night... I do intermittent fasting and that's the only thing k ate that day so the fish definitely made me sick.

    Hello, Chicken Picatta!!! YUM!!!
    Kerri L.

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!!! I booked a reservation on a whim after looking for new places to eat in the area. First off, the website alone is beautiful. It's clear they take their business seriously. After viewing the menu online, I knew I had to try it. My sister and I ventured over this past Saturday night and were thoroughly impressed which is saying a lot since we are both foodies (and Yelp Elites!!!). They had a few specials that evening. I was sad to hear that they were out of the cod risotto, but that disappointment soon gave way to excitement when the chicken picatta caught my eye. I have a love/hate relationship with chicken. My picky body will only eat all natural chicken without antibiotics or hormones. I asked our server about the chicken, and she came back to say it was indeed all natural. It was simply out of this world! The chicken had been pounded and breaded perfectly. I could have drank the tasty sauce. It was that good! I used the delicious foccaccia bread to soak up every last drop. (Is that healthy? Maybe not, but I digress...) The owner, Crystal, later came out to introduce herself and share how she only buys the very best ingredients. She refuses to to even have a microwave in the restaurant's kitchen. She went on to share how she started her business, and how her husband is the chef. They only opened 9 months ago, but they already have quite the following and just gained two more loyal customers! Their expresso martini was next level. It easily rivals MSC (for those who aren't local, I'll spell that out... Main Street Coffee). Yup. I said it and stand by it! My sister loved her dirty martini. She even got a side car of pepperoncini juice to add a kick to it. Brayden, our server, handled all of our requests with such grace and enthusiasm. It was clear she enjoyed her job and making connections with her customers was a priority. It's that kind of interaction that makes people feel right at home. This adorable restaurant is located in an unassuming storefront on Oaklawn Avenue. Don't let the location deceive you. This place is incredible and worth the drive. Go... you won't be disappointed!

The food was wonderful! Overall everything was really delicious. My lobster risotto was rich and full of flavor and the fish and chips were super crispy. The fries were to die for. Deep dish cheesecake, which was our dessert, was also tasty, topped with some of the best salted caramel sauce I've had. The menu is definitely far above what one might expect based on their location and atmosphere. Not that it isn't nice inside, but relatively casual. Somewhat industrial/farmhouse. The menu, though elevated, does have a good variety so should be able to find something for everyone. My only issue with the atmosphere is that the chairs are too low for the tables. Certainly not a deal breaker, but definitely noticeable. Upon entering we were met by the owner who happily escorted us to our table. She continued to check on us throughout our time there which was lovely. Our server was also great. Super friendly, kind, and efficient especially considering she had the whole dining room which filled up quickly after we arrived. Overall a really great first visit and I will definitely be coming back. It's so nice to have something in Cranston that isn't Italian

Really outstanding brunch at makmak eatery with hubby! We had to use a gift card & we were also on the RI Food Fights #LordOfTheWings trail. We opted for more lunch items than breakfast but all the pancakes, waffles & egg benedicts looked amazing. Hubby started with a cup of coffee but I was ogling a pretty in pink drink at the next table. Cranberry citrus spritz! Sweet with a good balance of acid & bubbles galore - the perfect brunch cocktail! I started with the Roasted Beet Salad: arugula, endive, pickled radish, goat cheese, toasted walnuts, hot honey, orange vinaigrette. I saw this on the dinner options when I was checking out the menus. I asked our server if it was possible to make for brunch. She asked & the kitchen said yes. It was outstanding! A ton of beets, nice kick from the arugula, creaminess from the goat cheese, crunch from the walnuts & the pickled radish, light vinaigrette with a hint of citrus. I should have ordered another to go! Even hubby, who is not a huge fan of salads, LOVED IT! I opted for the Morning Burger: 8 oz prime beef, sharp cheddar, bacon jam, fried egg, gem lettuce, tomato, Makmak sauce, sesame bun, homefries. I really didn't think the bun was going to hold up to the burger but it was perfect. You will definitely get full! The homefries were delicious - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. YUM! Hubby selected the Steak and Cheese: shaved ribeye, fried egg, sharp provolone, caramelized onion, chipotle aioli, baguette, homefries. Initially, he thought the baguette was a little hard but it soaked up all the lovely juices from the steak & yolk. He also really enjoyed the potatoes. Hubby always needs hot sauce & they are serving Rhed's. I love it when a restaurant uses local products. makmak for the win! For the #LordOfTheWings, I choose buffalo crispy wings with a side of blue cheese. Can we just take a moment to ogle the perfection of the chives? The knife has to be very sharp, the chives super fresh & the deft hand of the chef not to crush those perfect circles. It is a thing of beauty! Buffalo was a nice spicy, wings were very meaty & had a good crunch. The blue cheese dipping sauce was delicious. Would you please sell that retail, makmak? Hubby choose the sweet chili sauce crispy wings. Wings were done to perfection. Me personally, I wished for a bit more heat to go with the sweet but I liked the bite of the scallion. The service was exceptional & we chatted with the owner - makmak is named after their children's initials (she's front of house & her husband is the chef). Definitely make reservations as the restaurant was hopping the entire time we were there. Can't wait to go back for dinner! Highly recommend. NOM NOM NOM #YUM

But upon tasting their food, it was clear, 'Viola' is just another Americanized Italian restaurant. We started with an a la carte order of: 'House made focaccia, roasted garlic spread, evoo, craft butter' This was fresh and tasty. We then shared the 'Caesar: traditional romaine hearts, foccaccia croutons, shaved pecorino cheese. classic caesar dressing.' This lacked any flavour, the romaine was cut into too small pieces, there was no hint of garlic or anchovy in the dressing. But the most disappointing dishes were the pasta dishes: 'Fettucini bolognese, house made, beef, pork, veal ragu, pecorino, basil, calabrian Chili.' 'Scampi viola, squid ink linguini, shrimp garlic, white wine, julienned vegetables, preserved lemon butter.' Although the pastas were freshly made, their textures were compromised; both pasta dishes were not 'al dente'. In fact the Scampi viola was drenched in a dark gravy and greasy. This is just not a very skilled preparation of pasta. A fresh pasta needs very little sauce, and should be dressed very simply so the 'textures' can be enjoyed. I ordered the: 'Zuppa di vongole: fresh little neck clams, vino biqnco, fresh herbs, crostini.' But this dish was replaced by a fried calamari dish. This was well prepared, actually the only star of the evening. This restaurant may succeed on its 'blandness' but will never attract the discerning diner who wants and appreciates authentic Italian cuisine. ~tiaotse~

In a world where restaurants seem to either reinvent themselves every six months or completely fall apart after a few good years, Antonio's just keeps doing what it does well. Good food, solid portions, professional service, and that old-school Italian restaurant atmosphere that Rhode Island somehow still manages to preserve better than almost anywhere else. My wife and I went recently for dinner and had one of those meals where everything just flowed the way you want it to. We started with the fried calamari, which was excellent. Light, crispy, not drowning in grease, and actually seasoned properly. A lot of places phone calamari in because it's such a standard appetizer, but this tasted fresh and well executed. The hot peppers mixed in gave it a nice kick without taking over the plate. We also got a couple espresso martinis because it feels almost illegal to eat Italian food in Cranston without at least considering one. For dinner, I went with the chicken parmigiana after hearing people rave about it for years, and honestly, they weren't wrong. The chicken was tender, perfectly breaded, and the sauce had that slow-cooked flavor that tastes like somebody's grandmother has been guarding the recipe since the Reagan administration. My wife ordered the seafood fra diavolo, which came loaded with shrimp, clams, mussels, and enough garlic to keep vampires away for the rest of the week. Spicy without being ridiculous. The portions were generous too. Not "food challenge" oversized, just satisfying. Dessert was tiramisu for the table because at that point you're already committed to the experience. Really good balance of espresso flavor and mascarpone without feeling overly heavy. Sometimes tiramisu can feel like eating sweet drywall. This wasn't that. Service was also great all night. Attentive without hovering. Drinks stayed filled, plates disappeared quickly, and the pacing of the meal felt relaxed but organized. You never felt rushed, but you also weren't sitting there wondering if your waiter had moved to another state midway through dinner. The place itself has that classic Rhode Island Italian restaurant energy. Comfortable, a little lively, people talking loudly across tables, waiters who look like they've worked there forever, and the smell of garlic and red sauce hitting you the second you walk in. It's not trendy or trying to become some minimalist foodie experiment. Thank God for that.
