This place is the best ever for Italian food and the fish is wicked good too! One of my favorite things to eat there were actually their mashed potatoes! Whatever they put in their potatoes are the BEST EVER that I ever had in my life! The Calamari ala-mM style is also the very best I ever had too! It's delicious! you can't go wrong with anything you order here! I am not one that likes Spaghetti red sauce and it's one thing I would never order out at a restaurant, but I would here! I've been going to Antonio's Trattoria for years now, and one thing I can say is the place is incredibly consistent. In a world where restaurants seem to either reinvent themselves every six months or completely fall apart after a few good years, Antonio's just keeps doing what it does well. Good food, solid portions, professional service, and that old-school Italian restaurant atmosphere that Rhode Island somehow still manages to preserve better than almost anywhere else. My wife and I went recently for dinner and had one of those meals where everything just flowed the way you want it to. We started with the fried calamari, which was excellent. Light, crispy, not drowning in grease, and actually seasoned properly. A lot of places phone calamari in because it's such a standard appetizer, but this tasted fresh and well executed. The hot peppers mixed in gave it a nice kick without taking over the plate. We also got a couple espresso martinis because it feels almost illegal to eat Italian food in Cranston without at least considering one. For dinner, I went with the chicken parmigiana after hearing people rave about it for years, and honestly, they weren't wrong. The chicken was tender, perfectly breaded, and the sauce had that slow-cooked flavor that tastes like somebody's grandmother has been guarding the recipe since the Reagan administration. My wife ordered the seafood fra diavolo, which came loaded with shrimp, clams, mussels, and enough garlic to keep vampires away for the rest of the week. Spicy without being ridiculous. The portions were generous too. Not "food challenge" oversized, just satisfying. Dessert was tiramisu for the table because at that point you're already committed to the experience. Really good balance of espresso flavor and mascarpone without feeling overly heavy. Sometimes tiramisu can feel like eating sweet drywall. This wasn't that. Service was also great all night. Attentive without hovering. Drinks stayed filled, plates disappeared quickly, and the pacing of the meal felt relaxed but organized. You never felt rushed, but you also weren't sitting there wondering if your waiter had moved to another state midway through dinner. The place itself has that classic Rhode Island Italian restaurant energy. Comfortable, a little lively, people talking loudly across tables, waiters who look like they've worked there forever, and the smell of garlic and red sauce hitting you the second you walk in. Antonio's in Cranston has become one of those rare spots that's not just good once -- it's usually consistently good every single time I go. Only on a few occasions I've had their sauce that wasn't as good as it normally is. You know they are doing something right there when they continuously have regulars showing up weekly. I usually order the chicken parm, and it never disappoints. Sometimes I go classic red sauce, other times I switch it up with the pink vodka sauce, which is very good. Their red sauce is on the sweeter side compared to most Italian places. The portions are generous, the chicken is always cooked perfectly (pounded thin and pan fried), they don't just pour ladles of sauce on their parm's, instead they put the sauce on the bottom of the chicken which I really like. Everything tastes homemade instead of mass-produced. Another standout is the homemade ravioli, it's one giant ravioli and definitely something different from the usual Italian menu where you get multiple frozen raviolis in sauce. On top of the food, the service has always been solid. Staff is friendly, attentive, and the whole place runs smoothly without feeling rushed. Great experience tonight at Antonio's. Food & Service were first rate! I would definitely come back. We had a 6p reservation but arrived early and they were able ti seat us. Highly recommend reservations as when we left at 7p the place was packed. As soon as we sat down, a young lady came right over with water and fresh bread and butter. My wife and I each started with salads which were delicious. I had the Cesar salad and my wife had a lovely arugula salad. I had the special Veal Chop which was huge and very good. I really don't understand the "rave reviews" First of all my waitress was awful l, I asked her if they had clase Azul tequila she said let me check, said they didn't so I ordered a patron margarita and it was honestly the worst cocktail I've ever had. Funny though when I went to the bathroom and walked by the bar I saw the bottle on the shelf that they "didn't have" She then took everyone at my tables order but mine. She started walking away and I was like um I didn't order yet? Of course everyone's food came out way before mine so then she made me wait on top of that. The food was disgusting not gonna lie. Antonio's is a small casual first class restaurant offering a different menu selection from most restaurants. I had an outstanding looking veal chop topped with shrimp and cheese in a lobster sauce that did not disappoint. The baked veal is breaded and thin but very moist and tender. My wife order a medium well filet mignon which was cooked to perfection. It was very pink and hot in the middle. The waiter was very polite and attentive, making sure that at all times we had everything we needed. I've attached a picture of my stuffed veal chop and a receipt for our meals. The bar area is cozy and inviting, our bartender Paul, a veteran at his craft, was efficient and extremely knowledgeable of this classic Italian restaurant . My martini was a perfect blend of Beefeater and Kettle One slightly dirty with served ice cold! I ordered the Pork Osso Buco and was very pleased with the portion size, flavor and timing. My brother is always eating here and raving about the food, now I can see why. We came here with our family for me and my brothers birthday, and the food was on point! I ordered the Pork Osso Buco ($28.50) and it was so juicy with a great flavor. It was a big piece of meat and I loved the fig/sweet potato sauce that was beneath it. My mom's chicken martini ($26) was a great cut of meat served in a fabulous sauce. Then my brother's free range chicken ($27) was also really good with a awesome crispy skin. (They forgot the risotto at first). The portion of Bolognese that they served was large and they didn't skimp on the meat, which some places do. ($23). Service wasn't the best I hate to say. Good spot for Italian food in Cranston. There's two signs when you initially pull up, Antonio's restaurant and Antonio's trattoria. They're both the same and there's a parking lot behind. Inside, there's 2 areas for seating. One is where the bar is located and has table/booth seating as well. Another area is just a room/hall with tables. Personally prefer the bar area better. For food, we got the soup of the day along with beets and goat cheese salad. The soup was pretty good. Salad was Aok, primarily consisted of chunks of beet with 3 or 4 fried goat cheese balls. There were no greens whatsoever. For entree, we got the grilled swordfish. This was very good. We had the meal split in 2 portions and that itself was quite filling. The beans and sauce that came along paired well with the fish. Overall good experience. There were only 5 or 6 Italian red wines by the glass. Wish there were more. We had reservations at 5:30 on a Sunday night for three of us on my mother's birthday. The food came out on time and everything was great from the service to to the dessert. We started with a stuffed artichoke and Aranchini. The stuffed artichoke was cooked perfectly and was delicious. I would give it a 4/5 on my artichoke rating scale. The Aranchini was also good, especially the sauce that it was served with. The pork Osso Bucco...5/5 Excellent! The meat was tender and juicy and was a large portion. We all got to try it. The Fra Diavolo was fantastic, a little spicy with plenty of sauce. The shrimp were really good. The only problem with the dish was that there were no scallops in it when there was supposed to be. 4/5 The Filet Mignon was a 5/5. A large portion of steak with all the right fixings. The filet was cooked perfectly, as I ordered it rare. I was impressed with the Gorgonzola orzo. I wasn't able to save room for dessert, but it looked really good and there were no complaints. First visit to this place and we were pleased with the service and food, though the pasta sauce was a little on the thin side for me. I had the eggplant, which turned out to be a surprise...I've never seen so many layers in this dish, sorta resembled a brown mille feuille and was great. My wife had the pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe which was also very good. Only negative was the temperature in the place. They had just opened at noon on a Sunday, and it was a bit chilly. Given the lack of other diners at that point, it seem a little sterile. Although I don't eat meat, looks like it had been deep-fried and was mostly batter, picture attached. My husband scraped away the cold batter and cold mozzarella cheese that was halfway melted on top and ate what was left of the veal underneath all of the deep-fried batter. The eggplant stack was huge, and it was OK. Nothing to write home about and nothing that I would go back and have again. After the reviews this place had I would've expected a little bit more of quality in the entrées and attention to what was actually order to Guest Nothing was terrible, if you asked me, if you ask my husband other than that looked like and taste like deep-fried veal Parmesan that is. So my hopes are we just caught it on a bad night. As a business owner and a server in a former life, I do understand that you wanted to get us out of here before your other reservations started because we were just walkins. But that should mean we get the same quality of food that anyone else would receive. So being our first time trying this place I would like to say were a little put off by the hopes of trying it again. If it wasn't for the not getting the Caesar salad and the veal Parmesan looking like it has been deep-fried and pretty much cold, I would've given a three star on other areas. I broke tradition and came here for dinner with mom/dad. The broken tradition is veal parmigiana at Caffe Itri next door. So - came here to give theirs a try. Itri is better - larger veal to breading ratio, more sauce and cheese. But - the salad I had was great and my mom/dad loved their dishes. They had the chicken and the bolognese pasta and I sampled both and they were great. The seating is comfortable - not too loud, and the service was excellent. Been once before, no free refills. Average food, small portions. Had a group there recently, and they automatically add a 20% tip. That's not a problem, but add it BEFORE you had tax. On a $1000 tab, that is rather significant. Very short-handed. The food this same time was once again just decent (the bolognese had almost no meat in it whatsoever), with incredibly small portions (albeit it was a luncheon) for $24.95, soda not included (it did come with a small salad and half scoop of ice cream with whipped cream in a tiny glass). Three younger people just wanted chicken strips...again incredibly small portions (and still $24.95!). Joke. read more

Decided to try Antonio's once again after a number of years and our party of four were mostly pleased. We began by sharing the fig and prosciutto pizza which was delicious, but it was limited in the number of figs and the amount of prosciutto on it. Our entrees of Veal Parmesan, Swordfish, and Pork Osso Bucco were enjoyed by the majority. Although the presentation of the pork dish was breathtaking, my large entree was so tough and filled with fat that I could hardly cut it with my knife. Having eaten Pork Osso Bucco many times in many venues, this was unfortunately the worst ever.
