The first day they opened I waited on that 1.5 hour line and got a Tiger Sugar biscuit for being the first 100 people. Do I regret it? Not really! It was a nice day, i had my dog with me, I made friends with the girl behind me who had to run back to her EMT shift but I got her back when she could jump back in line. When I finally got my hands on the bubble tea and had my first sip, the first thing I noticed how sweet it was.. and then how creamy it was.. and then all the sudden it was kind of like drinking a bubble tea milkshake and I couldn't stop! It was so delicious. The biscuit was so good too, I wish they sold them in the US. The next day my coworker went and got us more and it was just as amazing. My store must have went back about 4x in the opening week. However, week after week when we would get the bubble tea again, I noticed a huge difference in taste. To be honest I think they're quite inconsistent with the flavor and I believe it's because they're cutting back on the cream mousse. Having heard about Tiger Sugar both through social media and friends, I knew it was going to be hard to meet the hype. Even on one of NYC's hottest recorded days in history (seriously, they even canceled a triathlon and Tough Mudder), there was still a long line leading up to Tiger Sugar on our first walk-by. We decided to re-attempt Tiger Sugar later that evening which turned out to be a better move since the lines were smaller (still ended up being a 15 minute wait). So how was it? Well, while it sure wasn't the best boba I have had, their signature Brown Sugar Milk Boba sure hit the spot. I am not sure if it was simply the heat, but there's something about a richly sweet, cold milk drink on a hot summer day that just makes you all kinds of happy. Tea lovers beware though, there actually is not actually any tea in this drink - the focus here is hands down the brown sugar and perfectly prepared boba. Would I wait more than 15 minutes? The brown sugar/sauce is spattered on the sides of the cup and they recommend that you shake it 15 times before drinking it to mix it all. The drink itself is SOO creamy and smooth. I am pretty sensitive to sweetness but this was not too sweet for me. The brown sugar is different from other shops - it seems to have a bit of caramel in it. The drink is half ice too on top of that , and apparently you don't get to choose the sizes , as I as well as other people got what seems like a medium size for 6 dollars. Half of the drink is just ice and jelly that doesn't even taste good. The pearls/boba is squishy and low quality. We are talking about Flushing , Flushing is the pinnacle of bubble tea in NYC in my opinion. There are probably 20 other bubble tea spots in the area. I have tried a dozen different spots and this place is nowhere near the top 5 on my list. Just generic, over hyped, and not worth it. My friend decided it was time we join the hype and do what New Yorkers do, which is wait in line. We came here at 2:10pm on a extremely sunny day whilst also being a blistering 92 degrees day. The line was semi long. The employees were nice enough to pass out golf umbrellas to the people on line waiting to block some of the sun and provide shade. We waited for 45 minutes before we got to order. Menus are passed out while you wait to expedite the ordering processing. While there are many options, the most popular one is the brown sugar with mousse and boba/pearls. That is what we ordered when we got to the front. Contrary to what someone else posted, sugar and ice levels weren't adjustable as it's already premade. One you order, you move to the side and wait another 10 minutes for your drink. First let me say, yes it was good. The pearls/boba were so fresh and chewy, I just couldn't get enough of them. The tea was also good with the mousse and brown tiger, different from when milk and syrup is used. Is it better than the likes of Kung fu tea or other spots? Debatable. While it is good, I don't think it was good enough for me to think "that 55 minutes was totally worth it!" Having missed the opportunity to get this in Taipei last year, I jumped at the chance when I saw they were here in Flushing. When I got the drink I was startled to feel how warm the bottom of the drink was where the boba are settled. This is what they mean--it is freshly cooked hot boba! The coloring and stripping of the drink is stunning. I almost didn't want to mix it! After pigging out at Haidilao, needed to wash it all down with Tiger Sugar. Been watching Salty Tour (Korean show) where they go on trips to Asian cities on budget and Tiger Sugar was showcased in the Taiwan episode that I was thrilled that this had opened recently in NY without me having to fly all the way across the country to try it out. Tiger Sugar is located on the Main street, little past or before McDonald, depending on which side you're coming from. It's pretty much an order window station and the line is out on the street and can easily mistaken it as the line for the bus as it's right in front of the bus stop. So make sure you're in the right line. It was crazy hot outside but Tiger Sugar provides you umbrellas to help with the sunlight and the line seems to go pretty fast as you can't customize your order, which is a great idea especially when their milk teas are just so perfect. We all got the most popular item, milk tea with boba, pearl, and cream. Literally the best, I mean the BEST boba that I had and this is coming from someone that doesn't like boba. I preferred the pearls since it's the mini bobas and it is super soft and melts in your mouth compared to the regular boba that gave texture and was chewy but at the same time, pretty soft. I guess combination of both is actually the best, to have the best of both worlds. How I would describe this drink is a creamy caramel affogato, and who doesn't like that?! This place had some solid bubble tea. The lines here are always long so get ready to wait. But I think it is definitely worth the wait, especially because to this day, I believe this is the only one in America (or at least the east coast). The menu here is pretty small; most, if not all the drinks are brown sugar based/ milk tea based. I went with the brown sugar boba with perals and the mousse topping. The drink itself is very well made; the bubbles are nice and warm and coated in their signature brown sugar syrup. The bubbles, because they are warm, have a really nice subtle chewy and soft texture to them. My drink had both large and small bobas in them giving the drink a different texture/ mouth feel. The drink itself is very refreshing. It's nice and milky, being sweetened by the brown sugar syrup. The milk mousse adds a creaminess to the drink as well. I Think the mousse was my favorite part, and something I wish I had more of. It makes the drink richer and more enjoyable. They really thought through each component in the drink. Each ingredient really compliments each other. After you order you need to wait for it be prepared, and yes there is a numbering system that alerts you when it is ready, but you will not know how many drinks they need to make before yours. That means the one guy that ordered in front of you could have ordered 30 drinks to cover himself, friends, relatives, ancestors and side pieces. So maybe the numbering system needs to go a bit further and let you know how many drinks they need to make before yours? Also, Tiger Sugar does not care if you want customization. One size drink, one set amount of ice (a lot) and one way to prepare your drink. Sure it makes ordering easy, but whereas other boba shops basically let you order any permutation of size, ice, sugar levels, etc... Tiger Sugar is fixed. Again, admiration for sticking to a vision of the best way to enjoy the drinks, but my entitled boba resentment runs high. That all said, it is a tasty drink. I enjoy the richness and the varying bubble sizes (boba & pearl) for the contrast of texture. Will I come back? I came here with a group of people and as part of the Korean culture, the person who took us out bought the whole group what I think was the Brown Sugar Milk with Boba, Pearl and Cream mousse. I originally thought boba and pearl were the same thing, but I think it's a little different. One is slightly smaller than the other, but the chewiness of both the boba and pearl was filled with perfection. Now, I understand the hype of the brown sugar boba.
