This place is weird, it's almost as though someone writes a menu, hands it to the kitchen staff, but no one ever tastes the food. Bo Jackson steak was ok but the advertised 'red wine demi-glace" turned out to be disgusting canned brown gravy. (note to chef: google demi-glace then look at the disgusting pile of brown goo you put on those steaks) The Steak salad had potential except for the very bizarre inclusion of candied walnuts and there were literally hundreds of them, I spent more time picking those out than I did eating the salad. Fries have little flavor and appear to be frozen. I've always thought that breakfast is a safe choice in most restaurants, but when I tried it at Thunder Cafe the hashbrowns tasted like they were cooked in very old cooking oil. Service is usually ok except the last time we were there the waitress had to return to our table 3 times to ask what we had ordered, maybe they ran out of ink pens or she was testing her memory ... Hands down the most atrocious cafe/diner I have ever ate at. Came here with my mom, ordered a burger (frisco) and the pizza. They served the pizza for me but apparently screwed up on my moms order and she waited another 35 minutes to get it. The pizza was over baked and hard as a rock with very little cheese. Tomato sauce was dumped on the pizza. Very low quality ingredients. Burger tasted disgusting and gave both of us a stomach ache the rest of the day. Waitress tried her best but no one else seemed to care. I suggest cutting down on the menu items, find a chef that cares, buy more quality ingredients and raise prices if you have to. People come to the casino to spend money, you don't need to sacrifice quality food to keep it budget. You have fast food restaurants that already do that. The Thunder Cafe was a late night last minute decision that we regretted almost instantly. The staff was lazy and fought in front of us constantly. At one point a manager made one of them leave. The philly was gross and after one bite, went untouched. We basically ate fries and watched the staff yell at each other. Had we been drunk, it probably would have been awesome. Starving!!! Glad this place is open 24/7. There was 5 of us and was seated right away. Server was very nice and attentive. One of my friends ordered a Blue Thunder, I guess he wanted to get turnt up on a Monday! Drinks came and he was disappointed. His drink taste like a sprite with blue food coloring. Most of the time for dessert and most of the time during the summer. me and my wife would come to thunder valley casino occasionally and watch cover bands mostly during the weekends and most of the time in summer season. When we don't watch the bands at the main stage, we either go to the food court or go here at the cafe .... Most of the time we come here, we have dessert and/or breakfast ( late night breakfast). The desserts are pretty good and the the host / waiter-waitresses are friendly, like any other days though this place can get busy and the waiting can be long. In a word "AWFUL". I took my two teenagers there for Dinner and Dessert, however we decided against Dessert since their Entrees were so awful. My daughter ordered the "Prime Rib Sandwich" Which was Dryer than the desert, and had a funny taste. Today she is not feeling well! We had to ask 3 times, from 2 different people for ketchup?! Then when we told the Server about the Prime Rib he sent the Manager over? He apologized and said he would take care of it? Love Thunder Cafe. It's to the point that I can't even come to Thunder Valley Casino and not stop for a bite to eat here. Swear they put some type of crystal meth or something in the food...it's too damn addictive. My favorite meal here. Full Stack of pancakes, hash browns, sausage links, and Bacon. It is so good!! Just ask for an extra syrup I've also had the fried shrimp and cheese burger. All are good and you can't go wrong. Service is always good and fast. Oh boy where do I begin? There's no doubt this Cafe is still in business because the casino supports it. We don't live far from full casino and we've heard nothing but how amazing the food is at the casino! True I didn't read specifically that thunder cafe was the go-to-place but I have heard from a it of folks that has the dining that we must I'll try. So I did, what a mistake! The waitress had as much personality as an ant and I don't even want to guess what the IQ is. Super sweet and cute but not the sharpest tool in the shed and absolutely could not follow the simple as requests. Simple request like breakfast scrambled eggs hashbrowns bacon on the seperate plate please and English muffin. Eggs and potatoes were both cold, bacon sitting right on top of the potatoes, English muffin also called the butter wouldn't melt. Second request was a bowl of the wonton soup with shrimp. The soup came out warm but the wontons were cold and hard. Send that back to be what one would guess was a simple warm up session thinking perhaps they had a microwave. Guess not as I had slowly eaten the cold breakfast and was just beside myself waiting to leave when the soup finally came out. It was hot, very hot like soup should be. But they forgot the shrimp. Goodness! We were not able to ask her for a fill up on water and ice tea because she dropped off all her food and she got out of there as quick as she could. She came back to deliver the check we letter know that the shrimp was not included in the second go-round of the soup. She smiled, nodded her head and said oh my gosh they forgot that too. I wanted to say it's your responsibility so no need to throw the kitchen staff under the bus. I wanted to ask her if it was the chefs responsibility to make sure that our waters and ice tea was re filled. Never again. It was the worst of Roseville. Maybe the steak house or other places are goo but no way would I waste my time and money trying it. Gross! Save yourself time and money - go else where. Best Country Fried Steak and eggs in Placer/Sac county! I get it every time even if it is dinner time. I should know since I have tried practically everywhere. They changed their hash browns a few weeks ago and they are even better now. If you like extra gravy like me ask for it its no charge extra. Quick service and everything is piping hot. The bread was griddled with butter to make the edges crunchy. Potato salad: standard, not bad, not a wow. Poached eggs: I paid $3 for two poached eggs on the side. When I think of Thunder Cafe I think of a poorly run business. The service is horrible. A business is only as strong as their manager. I did the sad mistake of ordering my Thanksgiving dinner from the Thunder Cafe this year. I thought that for over 300.00 I would get a nice break and a good meal. No matter how great it may be the fiasco I have encountered has made me regret the entire ordeal. When placing my order they asked me what time I wanted to pick up the meal. I initially thought that I would have to warm it all up and later found out that it will be hot when I pick it up. So, I called them and asked them to change the pick up time and was told that I cannot change the time. I drove down to Thunder Valley this evening and asked to speak with a manager at the cafe. I was told that the young lady behind the counter was the Manager. I questioned whether she was indeed the Manager and was told no. A woman walked up to me and stated that she was the Manager so I told her that I was told on the telephone that I am not allowed to change the pick up time for my Thanksgiving dinner and she confirmed that I cannot. When I called this afternoon I asked what they are going to do about people placing their orders now and I was told that they will be able to place an order and pick the time of pick up. When the "Manager" walked up to me at the Cafe this evening she stated they are not taking new orders. Regardless of whether they are taking orders or not I cannot fathom any business telling a paying customer that they cannot change the time of pick when they have not even started cooking the order. Thunder Valley has lost sight of their customer service and need to make BIG changes if they plan to survive through all of the new casinos popping up. They are like a ghost town compared to how they once were and will continue to lose many of us with their attitude. read more

My wife and I have dined three times here in the past year or so, most recently in June of 2021. On two of the three times, we have either had a BOGO or once completely comped meals. On all three occasions the food has been either really good or at least pretty dang good. I will admit that both of our favorites are the fish and chips that seem to feature differing fish types based I suppose on what is readily available, but I can't be sure, as I didn't ask. Before having come with Alecia, in the years past, I had visited as far back as 2001, when my wife at the time brother worked there. I will say that I have never had a bad meal there. I have also tried the prime rib (decent) the thunder(?) burger (very good) the fried chicken (great) and of course as mentioned, the fish which has been excellent. I HAVE to mention the desserts. As you walk in, the various desserts are on display. Even if you're completely full, grab one of these to go. You will not be disappointed. NOW, if you're wondering why I don't give 5 stars...For one thing, I rarely give 5 stars. To be thorough, I have at times had poor service here. One time the waitress was fairly rude. Other times it had been difficult to get a wait person's attention. I am quite aware that there is a pretty good turn-around on these positions and it can be difficult to find quality staff especially at a venue where food is often comped. I was kinda surprised on a Saturday afternoon, because it's usually crowded. Anyway, the family and I would always order the same thing because we've eaten here a few times in the past and love their lunch menu. Our waitress was nice when she took our order, but wasn't really giving us enough attention like our other visits in the past. We were here January 25 at 8:30 at night to get some pastries. By the way this review is not on the dine in, but on the personnel working on the pastry shop specially to the inconsiderate employee named Ciera who doesn't listen to customers explanation.. Remember, the pastry counter at Thunder valley Cafe starts from the front and goes around the back. So we lined up at the front as usual and when it was our turn to order, we told the guy serving that we want some pastries which were in place around the back close to our dining area. The server said just go around the back and we will be serve there. When we got around the back to pick the kind of pastry we want, somebody named CIERA stop us and said we are supposed to go in line to be serve. I was explaining to her that we're already been in line and was the next to be serve but we had to go around the other side of the counter because that's were the pastry we like is in place. But she won't listen. She is really very unprofessional and adamant that we should go back in line. I even told her to ask the guy who told us to go around the back but CIERA won't listen. We are not going to the back of the line once again after having been there waiting a long time. She is very rude and hostile. I think the fact that we get comped for this place makes me more generous with the star-giving, since "free" food is always good food. Just keep that in mind... This place serves a lot of fatty appetizers, of which the fried zucchini (with Parmesan cheese breading) is worth a mention. It's actually really good by itself or dipped in ranch! Their soups are WAY too salty, specifically their clam chowder though their chowder has big chunks of chewy clam which I must say is yummy :p they have a ton of other stuff, namely sandwiches, pastas, "Asian" dishes like fried wontons, even prime rib. Last night or this morning at 2am my self and a friend went here wanted to give it 1 more chance . The person who sat us was no rude had no people skills like she hated her job it felt like . We got seated in a both on right side. The lady was also not a good employee she joked wow ur going to starve and other things like we only have 1 cook and he not a fast cook just ride things. Went for the first time to the casino it was merely okay. This cafe has no waiting area or way to call you when your table is ready so it's kinda dumb. Ordered the food, fish and chips and it was good minus the coleslaw. I mean they did call it coleslaw on the menu but it was just like eating a rice cake, bland and no flavor at all. And the tartar sauce was weird too, they used sweet pickles instead of dill pickles in the sauce, and sweet with fish doesn't really work, at least they did have lemon and malt vinegar though. I was going to go to the Red Lantern but couldn't see myself paying $16 for rice. Don't know if I'll go back again. I am used to good casino food, and this one is just average.
