Absolutely awful! I do not consider myself to be very picky about most things, but when it comes to my eyebrows...I'm very particular. They shape your entire face! I don't remember the name of the girl who did my eyebrows, but I can tell you right now that I will never be going back. She absolutely RUINED my eyebrows and I had to grow them all over again into a bushy mess just so that I could get them shaped somewhere else. She made them COMPLETELY too thin and COMPLETELY different from each other. She had no idea what she was doing, and had the nerve to expect a tip. I didn't even pay her the $15 that she puzzlingly didn't get from me after she botched up my eyebrows. Threads? No Thanks. I'll be driving all the way to Tyson's Corner in McLean, VA to ge my eyebrows threaded at the keyosks. read more

I've been here twice - once on a Saturday afternoon (so busy!) and once on a Thursday after work (empty, except for the 2 women who work there). It's in my 'hood, and they do a good job (although $15 + tip is more than I was used to paying in NYC, where threading seems to be everywhere). However, not having irritated skin from waxing AND having it be near my place makes it well worth it. Recommended. Very quick once you're in the chair! Edited Dec 2010: After being back another time, it seems your results depend on who you see. After seeing a younger woman (not the one everyone was waiting on, which should have been a clue), I might as well not have gone at all, based on the stray eyebrow hairs I had to fix at home. read more

Threads has been my go to place for eyebrows for years. I'm giving them 2 stars because the difference between my eyebrows being butchered and looking great should not depend on whose chair I sit in. Today I was in a hurry and made the mistake of not going to my regular lady. I have made that mistake once before with the same outcome. Silly me. Let's hope my brows grow back quickly. read more

I had one awesome visit to Threads and one so-so visit that has kept me from going back. I'd give it 2.5 to 2.75 stars if that were possible. I must say that Threads did convert me to threading from waxing: there is no risk of having part of your eyebrow accidentally removed in one quick rip of a wax strip; the disposable threads are cleaner than wax where technicians sometimes double-dip; you can't get burned; and the process is more precise that applying wax with a craft stick. I am also pleased to report that the women who work there were always pleasant to me --- not too chatty, and never brusque. That said, I'm not overly thrilled with the end result I got at Threads. Whoever you are, they will give you the same brow shape. If you're curious as to what that shape is, just look at the women who work there. My friend finds the shape flattering on her wider face and square jaw, but I think my brows are too thin and that the the arch is too far toward my temples. I was ok with the less-than-ideal shape until my secondl visit. The shop was busier then, and I had to wait for three women to be served ahead of me (about 40 minutes) before I was seated. Though no one was waiting behind me, the woman who did my threading appeared to be rushing. Rather than pulling out the hairs at the roots, she broke a lot of them off at the skin, which was the chief reason I wanted to try threading rather than waxing. She also broke the thread several times, defeating all of her rushing when she had to re-cut and re-twist the threads. Within days I had stray hairs all over and had to resort back to my tweezers. read more

I typically frequent another threading shop in the city, but Threads is closer to where I live and I was in a rush to catch a train, so I came here. I walked in and immediately loved the decor and clean environment. Since it was a weekday afternoon, there was no wait and I was immediately led to a chair. My technician was Priti. She was fabulous and very sweet! She introduced herself to me and welcomed me to the shop, a very nice touch. She took her time in cleaning up and shaping my eyebrows. She was thorough, but very quick and my eyebrows looked fierce. I was impressed with the shop and will be back. It's nice to have an option close to home! **Pro-tip: If you have sensitive skin like me, ask the technician to skip the rose water/oil step at the end. Instead use witch hazel and follow up with aloe vera gel. Since I started bringing these to my threading appts, I have no more irritation bumps! read more

I've been going to this salon for the past 8 years and they are wonderful. I'm middle eastern with sensitive skin and had developed thick, coarse facial hair as a side effect from laser hair removal years prior. I can't tolerate upper lip hair removal, but they do a great job going fast as possible in that area. The price is fair market value and a great personal value considering how long they take to work with clients. Saturdays are very busy, but weekdays before the lunch/evening rush are open. read more

I've been twice. The first time Prety did my eyebrows and today Sonya did them. They both do a terrific job so make sure you ask for either of them. I'm not sure about the others. The place is nice and quiet very professional. There is a wait time on the weekends, the later it is the longer the wait, but they are super fast. You're in and out in no time. After being a loyal customer, I find out this place has bad business practices. Yet ANOTHER threading salon happily accepting tips when the owner does not allow the employees to keep them?! I moved to DC this past summer and was immediately on the hunt to find a new waxing/threading place. I LOVE Threads and am now a forever fan of the threading process. They have me in and out within 10 minutes every time, they're quick and pretty affordable. The ladies there are really nice and efficient, and my eyebrows always last at least a month. read more

Words cannot describe how utterly INCOMPETENT Pratima is. She is TERRIBLE. Not only can she not follow directions, she feigns comprehension by nodding along and saying "i understand." All I asked for was a simple shaping, with not too much taken off and to keep my brows relatively thick. When I looked in the mirror afterwards, she not only didn't know what shaping meant, but also took off SO MUCH they were like teeny tiny drawn pencil lines. PERFECT EVERY TIME!.........A co-worker informed me of this place and boy I'm glad she did. My eyebrows have never looked this great until I started getting them threaded. After going here I vowed to myself to never get my eyebrows waxed again. The shop is very clean and they have 3 stations with salon type chairs and mirrors. The overall Threading experience is very painless and quick, and I love how precise the threading is. Just for the eyebrow the cost is $15 which is a little pricey compared to waxing but its so worth it and depending on how fast your hair grows, you can usually go 2 months before you need a clean up. Threads offers a full menu of services (lip($8), chin($6 and up), face, underarm, etc.) Appointments are not necessary but I hate waiting, so I would suggest making an appointment, but depending on the time of day the wait is normally no more than 10 to 15 minutes. The ladies at the shop do an EXCELLENT job! So if you want PERFECT Eyebrows you have to try this place! The co-owner Preti does my eyebrows, but all the ladies are great! So there should be no more excuses for ladies to walk the streets of DC with uni-brows or slight resemblance to the Cookie Monster.. just go to Threads. read more

I decided to try this place because Dupont Threading is a bit out of the way for me...MISTAKE.... I should have known better since the place was empty, but I figured it was just a weekday. I asked for a clean up-- I like my natural shape-- and I ended up with mismatched and uneven eyebrows. Also this place is WAAAY overpriced at $15, but before DC I never paid more than $7. I've been getting my brows done for the last 7 years in places ranging from someone's home, to a dorm room, to a crank em' out brow shop. Honestly, I have never seen someone do such a bad job. Most people take some pride in their work, but this woman seemed almost like it was her first time. I tried to get her to fix it, but the damage was done, so I grinned, paid my money and left. Never again. If you get an experienced person, this place can be great. But there have been too many times when I have gotten stuck with a new person who doesn't have the needed skills. I left Threads this morning bleeding -- I didn't even think that was possible from threading! I have had my eyebrows threaded dozens of times, and it has never hurt like this. Try to get Sonia if you go, she is definitely the best and works at all the Threads locations, so call ahead and check which location she is working before you go. Usually she is at the U street location on Saturdays. The other threaders are so-so, I have always had great results with Sonia. $15 for eyebrows (avg for DC) , takes about 5min or less. They prefer cash but also take credit cards. read more

I have been going to this salon for 2 years. I am very pleased with the service. I highly recommend Sonya. She is the only person that I allow to touch my face. There may be 2 to 3 people in front of you to see her. However, she is fast and will wait on you in short order. I am usually in and out of the salon less than 25 minutes. read more

i have mixed feelings about this place. when you get an experienced person, like the owner, she does an amazing job. It only takes a few minutes, and afterwards your face is transformed. When you get one of the more junior people, beware! I went today and this young girl did my eyebrows - she did not seem experienced, and i felt like the thread was getting too close to the skin on my other eye when was working. I felt stressed the whole time she was working on me. Anyway, after we are done, i feel this burning sensation around one of my eyes and yes, there were 2 tiny red marks. The idiot attempted to tell me its because i did not hold my eye lid taut enough - well, its her job to stop and tell me that and make sure it happens before continuing, instead of giving me cuts around my eyes! That's never happened when the owner does the threading, because she knows what she is doing. I was furious - i had to rush home to put neosporin on the cuts because they were burning. Hopefully it will go away in a few days, but my point is - be selective on who does the work when you get there, and don't assume they all know what they are doing! read more

My first threading experience was in a little shop in georgetown and I was very pleased and have been trying to find a place to do the same. Everyone I know that has converted to threading but after coming to this place I DO NO think i will be one of them. I have only been dissatisfied with my eyebrows once before but this will make it twice. I asked for an arch which she did not do but at the end they still seemed undone. WORST of all after the reddness had gone done I have f**** bruise on my eyebrows.... Like OD cuts that have to heal... apparently I have soft skin but serously!!!!!! DC does not have competive prices like NY but for & $15 I am all the way upset read more

Despite the fact that Threads is only a block from my apartment, I will only be going to Dupont Threading. While Sonja is good, she chit chats with her favorite customers for 10 minutes while you have to wait. Every other threader I have had there has been incredibly painful. i've been getting threaded for the last five years consistently, and Sabina is possibly the best threader I have experienced in my life. i get a full face, and typically gear myself up for intense pain, but it was practically painless! I've been coming to threads on and off for years, and when Sonia is in it's worth it. However experiences with other people have been mediocre at best. Today, I had the worst customer service and threading experience I've ever had, anywhere. A woman who told me her name was Surri (sp?) did my eyebrows. I told her, as I tell everyone that my brows were sensitive and I just wanted a clean up. I end the experience with uneven eyebrows, and more cuts than I've ever experienced (even some on my nose). My eyebrows were obviously uneven, and we get into a ten minute detente where she basically says I think it looks good, shrugs her shoulders, and stares at me until I specifically point to the problem. Even then, she doesn't really get it. I'm walking home 15 dollars poorer and eyebrows mangeled and in pain, so I feel like I have to help other folks: go to union station instead, unless you can make it on a day when Sonia's in (Saturdays on U st). If you get Surri, run and save your eyebrows. read more
