Everything here was great - the staff are a lot of fun, the nail technique was great, the prices are reasonable, and I absolutely loved my manicure. Love the staff, the quality, and the finished product was just what I asked for! I recently relocated from New York to DC and I've been doing a ton of research on nail salons as my nails are quite important to me. In New York, I go to a salon called Primp & Polish (please check it out). I wanted a similar vibe down here but found that to be hard since not many salons to liquid/hard gel. I landed in Cosmo Beauty Bar based on a recommendation from my friend. YoYo and Molly are both great - cool personalities and do wonderful work. I'll certainly go back based off that but what's missing is the vibe. I was looking at salons like Nail Saloon (look them up) but want nail techs who can do awesome work and liquid/hard gel. Don't get me wrong, Cosmo is clean and they use good products but things like the polish display, it's quite cluttered and it was hard to find the OPI white polish I typically use on my feet. I was in a bind and needed my nails done ASAP, and came upon some really good reviews for this place. I decided to take a chance and they had availability. Upon walking in, I was greeted very warmly and given nail colors to Select. My nail technician was very kind and sweet and made sure that my nail color was exactly what I wanted and confirmed my nail shape. My nails ended up looking better than I wanted or expected. My nail technician's name was Lucy and I highly recommend her. She did such an amazing job. Mixed feelings about this place. First, I made a reservation for a Sunday at noon and didn't need it- the place was empty. The woman did a great job, spent her time and was thorough. When I asked for the (cheese) grater (I don't know the real name) she ran and got it. Another girl came in mid-way and asked for pricing and when she seemed to think it was too much and walked out, the ladies spoke in their language, clearly about her, which was a bit uncomfortable. Then when I went to leave, she told me that the grater was an additional $10!! I was shocked. I've never had a place up-charge for that. (And nothing was said when I asked for it.) I would've made this my go-to place, but I'm not keen on the nickel and diming. I'll have to keep looking. read more

Not sure if there's been a change in management but there has been a noticeable shift in service over the past few years, not for the better. When I arrived, I informed your staff of the services I needed and asked about the wait time. I was told it would be 10-15 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes, I inquired again and was told "5 more minutes." After sitting for 35 minutes total, I asked once more about the wait time and was told it would be another 35 minutes bc someone with an appointment just walked in. This was extremely frustrating and was an utter waste of time. If your staff cannot accommodate a customer within a reasonable timeframe, it would be more respectful to communicate this upfront rather than providing inaccurate wait time estimates. This is a constant issue with Cosmo, even with appointments. The Nail Place down the street said 10 minute wait and it was 6mins, It's also cleaner and much less chatter read more

I even trusted them with my wedding nails and they were better than I could dream up. The staff wonderful, attentive, social, and professional. I called and requested a color change and gel x manicure. I came in at 5 and was out after 8. Everyone was very kind however 3 people asked me the same question of what I wanted and it got lost in translation. Somehow my color change ended up being a pedicure where I was forced to use gel for my French tip, I never heard that before but I felt like I had no choice. They already prepped me for a pedicure I didn't ask for. The person who did my gel x were obviously new to it and she refused to clean up with a brush and used her nail to remove excess product. This was painful and frustrating especially to see that the entire nail was not painted. So many spots missed. I will not be returning. My first visit was better but I can't agree with their business practices. Please be more vocal about experience level on services rendered. Definitely a TERRIBLE experience visiting this place. For starters, I made an appointment for 4:30 PM and took an Uber just to be on time. I even arrived early, only to be ignored the moment I stepped in. One of the nail technicians finally greeted me--but only after I had to remind them I was there. YoYo, the tech at the front, told me to sit at table 7 and NEVER spoke another word to me. I sat there for 45 minutes without a single update, apology, or acknowledgment. I was polite, I smiled, and yet not one staff member showed any basic courtesy. Someone could have at least apologized for the wait, but instead, a few of them just looked at me and kept going about their business like I didn't exist. When I finally called my Uber and walked out, YoYo--the same tech who sat me down--was standing near the door. Not even she acknowledged me. I definitely felt like I didn't matter in this establishment, and I highly suggest my people STOP supporting places like this and START supporting more Black-owned businesses. NEVER again. read more

I was highly disappointed in this nail salon. I called in for an appointment and was able to be seen that day. When I went in, I asked for someone seasoned t o do my nails because I was new to the shop. I wanted some intricate details on my nails so they allowed me to go to a newer specialist that was more comfortable with designs. There were several red flags: 1) The young lady was Of a different race and was weirdly placed downstairs in the basement to do nails. 2) She was not able to use the products that everyone else was using, 3) We were rushed to finish, 4) She only has about two years of experience. In business, these can be problematic in the service industry and I was really shocked of the practices that I saw unfold. After about 6 days my nails were lifting. I have professional career, so I could not immediately go and get this looked at. I finally got the time to go in about 10 days out and was told there was nothing to be done. You can read the discussions in the attachment. Though I know getting your nails done every two weeks is normal, lifting, peaking, scrapes, and cracks are not. I've been getting my nails done for 25 years and I only complain when things are normal. Lifted nails are painful. I have left a shop because it was not properly applied or the products used were cheap. Professionalism is at the height of this. If you know the quality of products and service, own it and offer some type of recompense to someone paying $163. read more

This is my go-to nail salon in DC when I want to get a dipping powder manicure. Their colors go beyond the SNS collection and my nails typically stay in tact for three weeks. Not always. But more often than not. I was kind of tempted not to leave a review because I don't want them to get busier than they already get. But I do like the service here despite the long wait sometimes. This location is the second after the other Cosmo in Adams Morgan. Though I've never been there, I prefer this location for convenience of getting to and parking as well. But again, they can get pretty busy so I suggest calling ahead of time if you don't have the time to wait around. I've been getting SNS for 3 years now. 3 YEARS!!!!!!! I have never experienced this. I got SNS powder with a French tip which was not cheap. Within 4 days the gel polish started chipping and the then the SNS started coming off. The picture is from day 5. Unfortunately I was out of town and couldn't just walk back into the store. I messaged the owner on day 6 about my nail issue and she does not respond back. I call today to speak to her and she offers no proper solution. She claims that after 3 days they do not fix but that is not listed on their website, then she was well aware of the issue which means she read my text and just ignored it. And is now claiming it is well over a week so I would have to pay for my SNS to be redone. The owner is offering to only redo the French tip even after I explained to her the French tip is not the only problem. The gel and the dip is lifting. I do not even want the gel French anymore, just redo my SNS the proper way. I can't even get that. Apparently I have to pay the full price And this is only my second time at this place. The first time I got a pedicure and was very unhappy as well. I tried to give them a second chance which is why I went again but clearly this is not the place for me. read more
