I ordered a sirloin and had to send it back twice. Wasn't cooked right still. So I just decided that I wasn't going to try to send it back again. I just changed it for a salad. I have passed this place a million times coming down to Myrtle beach, and I always skipped it because I thought it was just a tourist place. We decided to try it this time and we are leaving to go home and getting to go ! The boneless wings are fantastic, garlic Parmesan and blackened are the best! Ranch is made in house and killer! We come to Thorny's every year bc it's (normally) great food; tonight however was very disappointing. My husband gets the prime rib every time we visit so he was looking forward to it. We arrived around 6:30pm and the wait was 45 minutes to an hour which was odd for a Monday night but no biggie, we waited at the bar. We get to our table and placed our order only to find out the were out of prime rib!!! They're best selling item! The one that they're famous for! At dinner time!!! My husband usually never lets anything get to him but this was unacceptable. He says that we're never going back. ‍ Also, the service was severely lacking. Despite the negative recent reviews, we came. The food was great. The waitress was extremely attentive. She had others tables including our party of 14 and my glass never went empty. Being a veteran of the restaurant industry I rarely leave reviews, but this place is getting a bad rap. read more

I'm going to give this place two stars because there was a very nice waiter that was extremely helpful. This could have been a better experience with a different waitress. The rest of the experience was a disappointment at best. I think we saw our waitress maybe twice... I'm going to hope she was new because no one should be that bad at their job. She never took dishes away unless we directly gave them to her. She never gave us a refill, again, unless we directly asked. When our food took over 30 minutes to get to is, she never once came by to let us know what was happening, which is why we had to flag down the other waiter. If you are looking for a copycat Logan's Roadhouse or place of that sort, then you will love the food here. Too much salt and not enough actual flavor to hold their own against any real steakhouse. Purchased the prime rib and it wasn't terrible. The food could have been saved had the service not been terrible. I had to ask for a manager twice and never once saw one. Maybe he was too busy in the back hanging out with our waitress, but that's just nasty gossip. Don't get the prime rib, go for the steak. Based on what the rest of my party said, the chicken was a little dry and the ribs were good. Skip it and go elsewhere. There are too many other good restaurants on the grandstand to waste your time with this overpriced and underperforming place. Ordered their "award winning, best on the beach" ribs...... Yikes!!! These were likely microwaved. The worst ribs I've ever had. They were not tender at all, they didn't have flavor, they were tough to even cut into. Sent them back. Also, the theme inside doesn't make any sense - clearly has an identity crisis and behind the bar is a bigger man who makes uncomfortable comments and carries odd conversations that really shouldn't be happening in a professional environment. On the way to Sc we saw all the billboards promoting this restaurant so it was on my son's to do list. My family enjoyed it. We liked the atmosphere it was great for the kids. The mini arcade, balloon animals and random art gave them something to do, while we waited on our food. Also Having mini Tv's at the table was great too. I had the flounder po boy. It was actually great. It came with the tri fries. Don't eat those. We had had tri fries for an appetizer and they were great with cheese sauce. Hubby is working hard on the Joker. It's the largest of the prime rib dinners. A very large portion served with broccoli and a nice salad. Our server is attentive and helpful. Nice dinner. We should come more often. I was impressed. We hadn't been here except for once to have a couple of drinks and appetizers at the bar. Should have known it was decent. The parking lot is always full. Went for a dinner last night. Great waiter but under staffed he was working probably 10 tables. Had the full rack of ribs. Very small not much meat in them no sauce and they were cold. We are visiting Myrtle Beach on vacation and decided to try Thorny's one night. We had a great meal and the service was wonderful as well! My husband has the rack of ribs, I had grilled chicken with a baked potato. My kids has chicken tenders and pasta with butter. All of the food including the tenders we obviously freshly made not frozen. My kids loved the atmosphere, sporting all of the decorations kept them busy! We don't get down here often but Thorny's will definitely be a staple in our vacations when we do! read more

Food was average overall. Fried pickles were good but under fried as were the onion bloom string. Both had a good flavor but needed another 30 seconds in the oil or the oil was not hot enough. Two in our party had fried shrimp that tasted like it was bought frozen and then prepared, same as you could do at home. The sausage pepper and onion sandwich was excellent. She failed to mention there was a $2 charge for what looked like cheese whiz. Tried ordering 3 different appetizers, only to be told they were out. The steak itself was good. Order exactly how you want (based on my experience here). I did the whole "order one level less than you want cooked" and mine was cooked a little under what I liked. But that's trial and error for you. Menu was hard to read and understand, things that were stated to be included (such as side salad with steak) was pointed out in the fine print to be an up-charge. That's fine but I still think you shouldn't need a magnifying glass or a legend to read a menu. My side dish came altogether undercooked and disgusting. The steak was good. Service was Meh. Took probably 10 or more minutes to even get a hello or a water. We decided to try this place instead of Damon's. I got steak, date got steak and ribs. One of my favorite places to eat! The French dip is my favorite. The service has always good and we love the little gift shop.

This place was highly recommended but I was very disappointed. We had a full slab of ribs that was a mere 3" wife with big bones and very little meat. It was as long as a full slab but in essence had only the meat of a half slab. It was cold when we received it. I took it home to heat it up. The coke slaw was raw cabbage and vinegar. I couldn't eat it. The baked potatoes were burnt. The waitress forgot some of our order twice. Then because we had 4 adults and two children she informed us that because we had 6 people she put the 18% tip on our bill which she figured in the bill plus the tax which is high around here. I will never go back. She got a $11 tip for poor service. I really dislike being told what to tip. Be warned. read more

Thorny's is a typical chain-like steakhouse. When we first started coming here we stumbled upon Thorny's and fell in love with their cold beer and early bird specials. I'm not sure if they have early bird specials anymore but the beer is still cold. They have a good kids menu and they serve them on souvenir thorny's frisbees that we leave in our condos to play with on the beach. The regular menu is pretty much steaks, sandwiches, and salads. They bring out warm rolls with honey butter while you wait. I always get a steak or a burger. I keep forgetting but the patty melts here aren't right. They serve them on Texas toast instead of rye bread and for some reason that buttery flavor throws me off. I like the three types of fries that are served with the sandwiches (steak fries, potato wedges, and waffle fries) There are tvs at the table and a play area for the kids. The crane machine is easy to win which makes our kids feel like champs and the gift shop is fun with thorny's and myrtle beach tchotchkes and they always give you free coozies or they'll have coupons in the coupon books floating around for something free. The reason for three stars is the food is just eh. It's not horrible but it's not good. We go for the tradition and fun atmosphere (can't beat $3.50 margaritas and cheap beer while the kids play) but the food is hit or miss. For example this time the rolls were hot but they were hard on the outside. Kind of like they were reheated. And my fries were crispy but cold. The burgers had stale bread too but my husband enjoyed his steak. So we'll probably return because it's thorny's and it's part of our history but there are definitely much better places to eat in the area. read more

This place gets a 1 star because it was bad. It may have been our fault too. We did show up with a party of 24 people and they were about to close. Regardless, whether it is a party of 24 or a party of 2, if you are open, you are open and you need to serve us and be friendly. We feel as if the waitress was a little pissed that she had to work such a large group so late at night. The food took forever and it didn't even taste all that great.
