Have went to a lot of places here on our two week stay found this one the last day of our stay they had just turned the open sign off when we pulled up but they come out as we were getting ready to find something else and said to come on in they would serve us. Glad we went in was the best meal yet will be back every time we are here now ! Service was excellent as well

Ok, first off my wife and I are hard core foodies and sports fanatics. We were visiting Myrtle Beach and saw Thornys driving down the street and said let's check it out for the late Sunday NFL games. Which we did and the first thing to note is when you walk in it's like walking into a time capsule. I spoke to the very proud welcoming owner Joe about the decor, he gave me the history of the restaurant, which is decades old and passed through the family. Let me share A LOT of luv, work and creative thought went into their motif. And it was a family affair all the way. The whole place is a warm feel, great vibe and great friendly service. It doesn't feel like a sports bar, although has TVs everywhere including some tables. The menu has a variety of options, healthy non healthy, you choose. We had the ribs which were awesome and gone in 5 minutes. The prices for drinks, were the best in town. I'm not sure why they only have 3 stars, but they sincerely put 99% of sports bars I've been to shame. Thank you Joe for being you and thank you Lindsey for being a beautiful, legit, kick ass bartender! We luv Thornys! With a great experience in mind! Cheers, Ken!

We got seated for an hour and forgotten about. We didn't say anything because we figured it was busy but it really wasn't too busy. Once our waiter was told she forgot us, she rolled her eyes and didn't give us our drinks for another 10 minutes. We were staring at this point and I really just wanted anything to put in my stomach. Besides the food being overpriced for what it is, our waiter didn't bring us our side of slaw and so when we politely asked for it because we assumed she just forgot, she rolled her eyes and brought us slaw WITHOUT THE CREAM. It was interesting to say the least, and we still tipped 15% after she rudely disappeared after chucking a bill at us. Keep in mind we said nothing to her about this all and we acted normal and gave her the benefit of the doubt, yet still acted this way.

What the coupon gets you, a cheap box of taffee

We started with potato skins and they came out so burnt you could taste the burnt on the bottom (there was 8 of them). She said she would have them remade and she only brought out 4 and they were still burnt! 3 steaks were ordered and all of them had no seasoning. We had a party of 6 but only ordered for 5 of us and they added a $25 gratuity fee for meals and service that were terrible. Had a coupon for what used to be a free t-shirt but now they only give you a small box of taffee after spending all that money. We were dissatisfied and will not be going back!!

Food was ok, service was ok and the ambiance was ok. Fun decor interior. A bit pricey for the items we had.

The food was decent enough. Most of the servings are good sized proportions with the exception of the chicken for the price. Service was good which means a lot for me returning. If you like watching sports while seated at a table, there are plenty of tvs for a good view. Some tables even have tvs at them. This is perfect for a Saturday during college football season. We will go back to give them another try.

Went on a Wednesday night around 8 and were sat immediately. We ordered michelob draft and Buffalo shrimp as an appetizer. As meals I got the chicken quesadilla starter and my daughter got the Alfredo side because she doesn't like chicken and my husband got the fried chicken sandwich. Service was great and we loved all our food. Will definitely go back!

Excellent food! We had a small group of 5 ladies and we walked to the restaurant from our condo. It was a Thursday night and wasn't busy.

Food was cold, waiter was not on his game and was forgetful. It's a sports bar so don't expect much.

Very friendly staff , I am in town for work and had 3 different people tell me to go here for comfort food . Fried chicken on point Mash potato's were instant so that was my least favorite . ALL the other veggies I tried were seasoned nicely and were very good . Lima beans were the best I have ever eaten . Peach cobbler was strangely good with the strange looking topping . I would eat that every time I went

I had some business to attend to in South Myrtle Beach and as I finished up I started to get hungry…read morefor lunch. Luckily I saw a packed place on Mr. Joe White Avenue called Simply Southern Smokehouse. Place looked legit and had a full parking lot so I pulled in. There is only one way in and once you get in, the cashier is on the right with the $15 all you can eat buffet right next to it. The $15 also included all you can drink soft drinks, water and sweet tea. I paid my money and grabbed a plate and ran right up to the buffet. They start out light with vegetables and sides, working up to the main courses of fried chicken, fried fish, pulled pork, smoked chicken and some hot wings. After that, they had some mac & cheese, and then the desserts which was blueberry cobbler, peach cobbler, homemade banana pudding...and a couple of other things. I started off with some broad beans, stewed okra and tomatoes, smoked chicken and hot wings. I brought my plate and my silverware to an empty table, which was getting hard to find as the place was so packed and then went up to fetch me a glass of water to wash it down with. They serve Pepsi products and of course sweet tea but I was going to save my calories for dessert. The place was clean, well lit and the seating was well designed with booths along the wall and tables in the center... and plenty of room between the tables. Once seated I dug right in. The broad beans were excellent. Done right and full of flavor. The stewed tomatoes and okra, although cook correctly was a bit bland for my liking. The smoked chicken was excellent and I used a bit of the golden SC BBQ sauce on it...great...and homemade. The hot wings were the real deal meaty and moist with a nice kick. I finished the plate in about five minutes. Time for round two. On my second trip up, I put some collard greens, lima beans, a piece of fried chicken and a piece of fried fish on the fresh plate. As I sat down to eat, I put a bit of hot vinegar sauce on the collard greens and dug in. The collards were excellent and the homemade vinegar hot sauce gave it a bit of a kick and bite. The Lima beans were soft and loaded with flavor. I then moved on to the fried chicken, which was cooked correctly with the skin crispy and well battered and the meat moist on the inside. That said, it was bland. Given how well the beans were seasoned I was surprised. Same thing with the fish, but they had a real good house sauce for it which gave it a nice flavor and saved it, but overall both the fried chicken and the fried fish were bland. I then went up for a plate number three and realized I was not gonna be able to eat anymore mains, which was a shame since the pulled pork looked great... It will have to wait for the next time I come. I did, however leave a bit of room for dessert and I'm glad I did . The banana pudding was delicious with a full banana taste and 'Nilla wafers on top and bottom adding a bit of crunch. I only had enough room for one of the cobbler so I chose peach and it did not disappoint. Nice and warm with a sweet peach flavor and tasty crumbles. I wanted more but controlled myself. As I got up to leave, I placed five dollars on the table for the cleanup guy who was hustling and keeping the place neat and tidy. I then looked around and noticed this was a real local spot full of people from Myrtle Beach. You have families, elderly people, young people, construction workers and people from local businesses. For $15 it cannot be beat. Not only will I be back again but I plan on bringing some of my friends from up north who are going to love this place...plus I gotta try that pulled pork and Mac and cheese...if the fried chicken and fish have more seasoning, I'll up them to 5 stars.

We were promptly seated and drink orders were taken. The waiter reappeared about 15 mins later with drinks and cheese rolls and took the table's order. We settled on the Aspen family meal which consisted of 2 meats and 4 sides. We chose smothered pork tenderloin and fried chicken along with mac 'n cheese, collard greens, fried okra and candied yams. Fried chicken was awesome, crispy, with an assortment of dark and white meat pieces. We were looking for a knife because of the pork tenderloin and realized you don't need it. It was that tender. You could cut it with a fork and it too was awesome. Everyone raved about all the side items except the mac & cheese it was a bit on the bland side so it was not our favorite. There was no need for a refill of any of the food. The first round was very ample sized and everyone left very satisfied. And if I have a bit of feedback, our waiter was not attentive unlike the waitress serving the tables in our same area. He was didn't bother to come back and see if we needed a refill on any of the drinks or the food. The only disappointing thing was they no longer offer you a small sample size dessert to finish up your meal. It's been a while since I've dined here so I'm not sure how long that change has been in place. However, we understand the food industry continues to be impacted by the current economy. Overall, the restaurant was very clean, including the restrooms. It's a nice place to feed a large family who hates buffets.

Will say the area, the location, the draw and the atmosphere is fantastic, but not the food. Our family left disappointed by the overall quality of the meal, particularly given the establishment's reputation and the high price point. The cost for 4 people exceeded our expectations an amount that felt disproportionate to the overall experience provided. The service was adequate. Our waitress was courteous, but could have kept up on our drink refills. The food fell significantly short of our heightened anticipation. Dishes arrived at the table within minutes of ordering, far quicker than would be consistent with individual dish preparations. This is served family style with options of your main courses and sides. The okra was good, but had some very hard pieces. I bit down on one that was so hard it could have broken a tooth. Green beans were decent, but extremely salty. The creamed potatoes were the best thing in my opinion and we were able to be served both the white & brown gravy's. The fried chicken was so dry and uneatable, with extremely minimal flavor and texture that did not meet standard expectations for Southern-style preparation. We realized after the fact: you can request the chicken parts. The macaroni & cheese tasted mushy offering little depth of homemade character. The biscuits were also very dry. They looked great, but tasted bland. The fried fish & tartar sauce was probably the most memorable dish. However, not everyone in our party had it because they do not like it. There's other options for "main" choices, but you'll have to compromise as a group. You'll have to do the same as far as the sides too! I would not recommend Paula Deen's Family Restaurant based on this visit and would advise potential patrons to consider other options for Southern comfort food while in Myrtle Beach. There are many more options within this great broad-walk complex. That said, I would suggest shopping in the gift store located in the downstairs of the building, as there are lots of merchandise that represents Paula Deen far better than her eatery. * If you happen to be a Food Network FAN (like I am). Flavor Town is coming to the other side of town. Location will be at the Myrtle Beach Mall & will open in June 2026*
