Ok, first off my wife and I are hard core foodies and sports fanatics. We were visiting Myrtle Beach and saw Thornys driving down the street and said let's check it out for the late Sunday NFL games. Which we did and the first thing to note is when you walk in it's like walking into a time capsule. I spoke to the very proud welcoming owner Joe about the decor, he gave me the history of the restaurant, which is decades old and passed through the family. Let me share A LOT of luv, work and creative thought went into their motif. And it was a family affair all the way. The whole place is a warm feel, great vibe and great friendly service. It doesn't feel like a sports bar, although has TVs everywhere including some tables. The menu has a variety of options, healthy non healthy, you choose. We had the ribs which were awesome and gone in 5 minutes. The prices for drinks, were the best in town. I'm not sure why they only have 3 stars, but they sincerely put 99% of sports bars I've been to shame. Have went to a lot of places here on our two week stay found this one the last day of our stay they had just turned the open sign off when we pulled up but they come out as we were getting ready to find something else and said to come on in they would serve us. We came to Thorny's as it was a tradition for my husband growing up. We arrived at 4:11 on a Friday. It was pretty empty, not very busy. Early bird dinner specials were still going on. We spent a while deciding what we wanted to order. The waitress was friendly and answered our questions when we couldn't decide. They provide rolls while you wait for your food. The salads were good. Food was pretty quick. On the table 30 minutes after we arrived. We had the Ribs. These were smaller than expected, but still tasty. And couldn't beat the price. Two racks for $27. My husband had a hamburger steak. This left something to be desired. It looks just like a hamburger patty. And was the size of mcds burger. But he said it tasted good too. The ribs came with slaw. It was okay. Just not creamy enough. Overall, filled my husbands tradition and was a nice filling dinner! read more

We got seated for an hour and forgotten about. We didn't say anything because we figured it was busy but it really wasn't too busy. Once our waiter was told she forgot us, she rolled her eyes and didn't give us our drinks for another 10 minutes. We were staring at this point and I really just wanted anything to put in my stomach. Besides the food being overpriced for what it is, our waiter didn't bring us our side of slaw and so when we politely asked for it because we assumed she just forgot, she rolled her eyes and brought us slaw WITHOUT THE CREAM. It was interesting to say the least, and we still tipped 15% after she rudely disappeared after chucking a bill at us. We started with potato skins and they came out so burnt you could taste the burnt on the bottom (there was 8 of them). She said she would have them remade and she only brought out 4 and they were still burnt! 3 steaks were ordered and all of them had no seasoning. We had a party of 6 but only ordered for 5 of us and they added a $25 gratuity fee for meals and service that were terrible. Excellent food! We had a small group of 5 ladies and we walked to the restaurant from our condo. It was a Thursday night and wasn't busy.

What an awesome spot we were on vacation and we like to find places where we can get good takeout and bring it back to our condo so it's not to have to wait for tables or anything like that I prefer spots where I can have a drink at the bar while waiting for the takeout to be done and bring it back Is my family would prefer to hang out at the condo and enjoy some more time by the ocean, this place was fantastic. I visited Thorny's about two hours ago with a group of six, and unfortunately, this experience fell short. I've been here before and had a much better time, but this visit just didn't live up to expectations. The tri-fries came out with waffle fries that tasted old, and the wings were overcooked--definitely not the quality I've come to expect from this spot. Our server was kind and really tried her best, but the food just wasn't up to par. I'm not sure if the crowd size had something to do with the drop in quality, but I left unimpressed. Based on past visits, I'd recommend coming earlier in the day when things seem to run more smoothly. read more

The food was decent enough. Most of the servings are good sized proportions with the exception of the chicken for the price. Service was good which means a lot for me returning. If you like watching sports while seated at a table, there are plenty of tvs for a good view. Some tables even have tvs at them. This is perfect for a Saturday during college football season. As meals I got the chicken quesadilla starter and my daughter got the Alfredo side because she doesn't like chicken and my husband got the fried chicken sandwich. Thornys is home of the absolute BEST potatoes! Their tri-fries are a MUST , especially the fries that taste like a fried mashed potato. The Rivertown chicken is tasty, and the Hawaiian ribeye is the best Hawaiian flavored steak we have had to date. The atmosphere is fun and like an upscale sports bar. Service there has always been on point. On a side note- we ate their special Thanksgiving meal this past year and it was exactly what we were looking for- tasty, traditional, and enough to give us sufficient leftovers. Best food I had in Myrtle Beach, and I've been to Myrtle beach many times. HIGHLY recommend!!!

My family and I went here while on vacation for our last dinner in Myrtle Beach last week. The atmosphere was fun and family friendly. Nice little arcade, a guy that comes to your table with balloon animals for a tip. Fun decor like shark to take your pic with, vintage style lamps and TVs at every booth. The food was good. We got the fried onion straw appetizer and I ordered the 6 Oz steak and shrimp combo. It comes with different sides. I got their famous "tri fries" which is steak, waffle, curly and regular fries combined. The shrimp can come grilled or fried. Our waitress was quick with the refills and served rolls and honey butter before our meals. If you get a local coupon booklet with tourist attractions in it, there is a coupon on the back for a free Thornys Tshirt from the gift shop they have in the front of the restaurant if you spend over $30 which is easy to do for dinner with a family of four. We did not even get to eat there tonight. We walked in at 8pm with a closing time of 9pm. There were many people sitting and eating. My four daughters and myself were exhausted and just wanted to eat. A man came to the hostess desk and told us we were closed and they would not serve us. Three men came in as we were walking out and was greeted and sat down. I am not sure why they advertise a closing time that they do not use and hire rude employees. Enough for 4 people but they were so tasty we polished them off lol. My wife ordered the ribeye which we agreed was one of the best we've ever eaten. Marinaded in a soy/ginger/teriyaki sauce then cooked perfectly with the right amount of marbling. Pineapple on top too! I had the full rack of danish ribs only $22 . Wow they were great as well! We ate here our first night in Myrtle Beach and no regrets. I ordered fried mozzarella sticks appetizer and mushroom Swiss burger. The burger was made from fresh ground beef and it was the tastiest, best cooked burger I have ever had. I was concerned when I saw the mozzarella sticks come out since it was served as one large fried patty. But I absolutely loved the texture and flavor. Marinara dipping sauce was fantastic. I was leary of this touristy restaurant but was pleasantly surprised by my visit. We came on Christmas for dinner since many places were closed. We had a great waitress who did her best considering it was a holiday. I had the steak and baked potato which I think is the thing to get here. I sampled the prime rib and it was good as well.
