Recently visited the Grumpy Monk. We love this place but hadn't been in a few years. It did not disappoint. Tyler C was our bartender. Very knowledgeable. I can never remember the name of my favorite beer there, I described it and he knew exactly which one. He and I struck up a conversation. Very impressive young man. I asked to speak to the manager and gave Tyler C a glowing report. They no longer had my favorite dish, so he recommended the nachos. They were very tasty and hit the spot. If you like a huge selection of beer, sports, and conversation, this is the place to visit. read more

We had some great food here at The Grumpy Monk!! Our serve was from the bar, Tyler.!! He was great. He recommended food for us, and was very attentive!! The ambiance is cool: kinda dark, lots of tvs around, and a huge arcade. There weren't many people there because we ate kinda early but it was a great place. Hubby had chicken tenders, and I had the Top of the Morning burger. It had a fried egg on it. It was awesome and messy and tasty and delicious!!! We will be back!! read more

Great Food & Chill Atmosphere We had an awesome experience at The Grumpy Monk in North Myrtle Beach! I ordered the Mushroom Swiss, which was rich and flavorful, and the Chicken Sushi, which was surprisingly delicious--fresh, light, and full of flavor. My wife had the Mushroom Swiss Burger and Yaki-Hot Wings, and both were a hit. The burger was juicy with just the right amount of mushroom and Swiss, and the wings had a perfect balance of heat and flavor. The vibe was relaxed, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The food came quick, was hot, fresh and very tasty. The wings were meaty Ave the dry was was excellent. The burger was very good juicy and had a char taste to it. The macaroni and cheese was good, not great but good. The service was attentive and very good for 9:00 on a Sunday night. The menu was quite diverse, but nothing particularly unique and from a value perspective it's extremely overpriced for the quantity and quality of what you get. I'm not looking for mammoth portions, but to pay nearly $17 for a steak sandwich with very little meat and mostly cheese is hugely disappointing. Kind of a cool vibe once you come in, and a very family friendly place... With the number of arcade games and such. Service was great, so not taking anything away from the staff. Atmosphere is good! They have live music and an arcade! The food is eh ok.. the burger I got definitely wasn't fresh it's more of a frozen chuck burger instead of the "smash burger" they had listed on the menu. The buffalo chicken dip was good! Be aware the ranch has peppercorn in it.. my toddler found out really quickly.. they also forgot to make her food so she didn't get to eat with us by the time hers came she had already ate so many of my fries she wasn't hungry... but over all is a good place if you're looking for a sports style bar with live music. read more

This was my first time having a not so great experience from GM. I ordered the turkey wrap and salad via DoorDash The wrap was good but the salad was just lettuce and maybe one other thing. We were out with the kids and decided to stop here even though we were trying to stay away from chain restaurants. We were seated immediately, which surprised us with the crowds outside. Great time at the grumpy monk. Very open format with a good size bar and seating at two levels of booths and tables. Lots of TVs to watch any sporting event. There was live music on a small stage when we were there. Great drinks and diverse beer selection. The sushi was excellent as well as the pretzel. The burger I got had peanut butter on it, very interesting flavor. Worth a try if you love peanut butter. Salmon was great. Service was decent. read more

Great space with a lot going on. We visited on the weekend at 8pm and got right in. Live music was playing and there is an arcade for the kids. There was a big bachelor party behind us so unfortunately our service was slow. We ordered the peanut butter hamburger, sushi, and a few appetizers. The white queso is extremely thick. Service was slow and inefficient. They weren't very busy and yet we received no silverware or plates. Finally got silverware 10 minutes after asking. Drinks didn't come with the requested glass and delivered appetizers with no plates or silverware to share. Everything had to be asked for and then took 5-10 minutes for her to come back with the item, while our food was getting cold. No priority to get missing items. And here's the kicker... we used a coupon, so they added an 18% gratuity. On top of that they automatically keep the coin change from the payment. That's theft no matter how you look at it. We arrived to Myrtle Beach late, and were very glad we found this place to be opened. The food was really good! We pecan crusted chicken, fried fish and oysters. Everything was delicious! We loved the pecan crust on the chicken; it can with maple syrup drizzle which went great with the sweet and savory crust and chicken. The fried cabbage with bacon side is amazing too. A friend of mine recommended we eat here and I'm glad we did. It was our last day in the area and we wanted to eat earlier than usual. We arrived around 3:00 pm and there were only a few cars in the lot. I worried they weren't open. I had checked online but I couldn't find the restaurant hours on their website or Facebook page. Thankfully they were open. When you enter, a sign says to seat ourselves and someone would be with us. This place is very big. Large arcade sections and a bar with TV's everywhere showing every sport channel available. Everything looked clean and the booths were roomy. We sat in a booth and our server brought us our menus and took our drink order within just a couple minutes. Their menu itself is like a book. Plenty of choices, which made it a little harder to decide what we wanted. We all decided on handheld sandwiches of some sort. We ordered Southern Pickles to start. They had a nice bite to them and a good pickle flavor. Our entrees arrived just as we finished our appetizer. All of the food was delicious. I ordered the Rodeo burger and it was cooked perfectly. Great seasoning and toppings. My brother ordered a BLT wrap, which he said was really good as well. My mom ordered the pulled pork sammich. She liked it as well. Overall this was a great experience. If you go to watch a specific ball game be very careful. We asked to watch Ohio State on big screen and they said it was on one of them and sat us over there. Turns out they put on a 3-8 team. This is where most fail, not only does The Grumpy Monk get this right but the nacho cheese was tasty too and the nachos come with both chicken and steak. What a terrible experience, it's starts walking in an being welcomed by broken A/C and a bunch of flies, we patiently wait 30 minutes for a table, to be expected this time of year and day. When we get called we go to our seats and are left to sit and wait. And wait we did. We waited and waited and watched people get served whom were called after us, we waited and watched these seated later tables get service and welcome and still no service not even an acknowledgement of being in the restaurant. Five servers walk by go to those later seated tables and that was enough we get up and leave a waste of an hour. Service is shocking won't be going back. Stopped with my Dad. The place was Super Load with some old guy singing karaoke off his phone. Didn't like that performance at all and it was annoying. Ordered the fried pickles and nana nachos. Both were really good but not A+ material. Maybe A- or B+. Pickles were a little under cooked but still good tasting. Nachos had good flavor but little skimpy I'm the meat and quality ingredients and too many of the other fillers. Service was great over all appearance of the establishment was awesome. Made reservations for 8. Spent 10 minutes on phone making them. Got there the next day they had no reservations. But sat us quickly because it wasn't crowded at all on a Saturday night at 6:30. Took forever to get drinks so we went to bar and ordered them. Got them quicker. The Bartender Tommy was extremely rude. After a long while received dinners. Chicken wings were hot pink. Manager Alex came over and really didn't seem to care. He was also rude. Our group is a fun group and very patient. We all live here full time so we are used to crowds and waiting. Great time here as always. I've always thought their concept was excellent and would be well received since day one of opening the original location (my favorite). This one is the largest and closest to where I live so it's my second favorite GM location (fantastic staff at both). They do an excellent job of delivering real food, fresh and hot from a VERY large menu. Not easy to do, you want Sushi prepared on the spot? They got ya covered. Creative and delicious shareable items. Burgers/sandwiches that will keep you coming back and the quality and pricing of their Happy Hour can not be beat! Almost forgot one thing, well chosen beer selection! Plenty of styles to pick from and you can get half pours if you like. Always changing, new brews weekly. read more

I really never try to leave bad reviews. In this case, I would hope that improvements might be made. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. We arrived for dinner around 6 pm on a Saturday. Not busy in terms of cars in the parking lot. We were seated right away. They have live music and it was very loud but that was to be expected. It took some time for someone to come to our table and if they were really busy we would understand that. But it was not, so it was not the nest start to the evening. When we were met by our server, she seemed nice and took our drink order. All water and two soft drinks. Then she disappeared. She finally returned with drinks and while it did. Ot matter with the water, the sodas were watery from melted ice. Again, it is what it is. It is hot in North Myrtle Beach. Our order was taken. Nothing extravagant, a few burgers, a salad, and a seafood dish. Then she disappeared again. By the time the food arrived, it was clear that it had been ready for a while and sat somewhere waiting to be delivered. We specifically asked if the burgers were accurately cooked to order prior to ordering, and we were assured that they were. So we went with it and two burgers were ordered medium. What came out were hockey pucks. Maybe they were cooked to order and continued to cook while waiting to be picked up. By this time, we had been there so long, returning them for new burgers was out of the question. The balance of the food on the table was just ok. We lost our server again, waiting on some ranch dressing and ketchupfor some fries, and when they returned, the salad was mostly finished as wete the fries. By this point, we could tell that we were not the only ones having troubles with the service. Some customers were waiting outside the doors to the kitchen to catch somebody, anybody, to provide a missing side dish or condiment. All in all, it was a lackluster experience.
