Great experience at Thornys. My family and I went for dinner around 4:30. We were seated right away and promptly greeted by our server. She was very pleasant and recommended the jalapeño appetizer. The app was so delicious and spicy. For dinner we order burgers, which were cooked to perfection. I was in burger heaven during the meal. Thornys is very big with a full bar and ample seating. The restaurant also has cool decorations and tvs at the tables. The only thing that I disliked is that the happy hour specials are only valid at the bar. All in all a good experience and I can't wait to go back. read more

We ate here twice during our vacation to Myrtle Beach last week, and for the price, I think it was excellent. The restaurant is clean, the servers are quick and friendly, and there was something on the menu for all of us, and the food was great. The menu is mainly standard American fare with a country bent. I had their house salad and added shrimp with some skepticism but they were good quality and sautéed perfectly. And the salad was huge, would have been a meal without the add on. The next time I had a chicken sandwich, which was delicious, served on Texas toast with a generous helping of fries. In one section of the restaurant they had tv screens at every table, and there is a small arcade and also a play area for small kids. We vacation in Myrtle Beach every year, and have our favorite spots to eat, golf, etc. Thorny's has been added to the list! read more

Looking for a place to go around 8pm that wasn't a chain restaurant and stumbled upon this local joint. Looked fine from the outside but as soon as we got inside we were bombarded by a crappy 1960's gift shop, I thought I came in to eat not shop!?! Take off 1 star Anyhow the server decided to show up after waiting 15 minutes after we were seated, so take off another star. Just wanted a boring old sandwich and the wife ordered steak, after waiting another 30 minutes the food came out. The chicken sandwich was just "ok" and her steak was dreadful. She in fact got the petite steak so we weren't really thinking it would be a great cut however it was riddled with fat all throughout it. Also medium should be some pink in the middle not bloody red. Deduct another star. At the end of the day it was a restaurant with a gift shop in it that served beer, cheap beer. Other than the cheap beer the only other highlight was that the kids meals were served on Thorny Logoed frisbees that they got to take home. I guess you have to look for the silver lining? read more

Stopped there yesterday for an early dinner got a prime rib king cut 14 ounces 7 ounces of fat I complained about it And they did nothing . Had a great dinner here with the family. Ribs had a really good smoke and were tender without being overcooked. Burgers were large and the family all liked the taste. Tri- Fries are fantastic, why have I never seen this elsewhere. The atmosphere is good and the staff working with us was very friendly and did an excellent job serving. Dad got the Italian sausage w/ fries (which were done perfect to his request of krispy!). Our waitress Emily so fantastic. Full of friendly energy, with an infectious smile. My boyfriend and I are huge food critics, so when we took a trip to myrtle beach we didn't know what to expect - food wise. When we yelped a place for steak, we found this place and stumbled on in. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavoring of the choices we got. I ordered the rack of ribs while he got the Hawaiian rib eye, and both were absolutely delicious and satisfied our taste buds! The meat was tender and slid off the bones so easily, while the steak. Oh the steak! It was absolutely delicious, the marinade was so beautifully done. When you get the chance, go in and try either dish, it'll be worth it! read more

I liked this place. The Hawaiian Ribeye is not to be missed. Marinates for 48 hours in several ingredients. It was quite tasty! I did my best to get past the odor and get my appetite back. Hostess very friendly but had to unexpectedly had to wait for about 15 minutes for table when place didn't look busy at all. We were seated within 10-15 min. and had our drink and food orders made pretty timely. I choose the Ground Sirloin Steak that came with a side salad and a baked potato. I liked that they did have options for the sides like a caesar, house salad, or soup and a baked potato, sweet potato, fries or steamed veggies. My meal was OK. Everyone else seemed satisfied with their choices. The prices were not the highest or lowest for steaks and other normal steakhouse menu items. I would give it a 3.5 if that were an option because it didn't seem one star down from the best and I couldn't really see taking another star away. read more

The phrase 'nothing special' comes to mind for Thorny's. A touristy place, with tvs at some of the tables, the noise is distracting and obnoxious. The food is so-so, the prices are too high for the quality of food, but at least the service was good. We got there at 5:45, ahead of the dinner rush, and got seated right away. Unfortunately we got seated at a booth with a tv, which ended up being straight up annoying. Why in the name of all things holy would you put individual tvs at tables, except to dissuade people from talking to each other while eating dinner, or ignoring their children by putting cartoons on to entertain them. (Societal commentary provided by my dinner seating arrangements. Oh, my.) $13 for chicken strips is a little ridiculous, but my $18 salmon was decent enough. The burger was dry, the iced tea tasted like instant made with bad water, the fries were underwhelming, the broccoli was soggy... though the salads were good. The waitress was lovely, and passed by often enough. The total bill was more than the quality was worth, but we all ate, so that was something. Overall, it's just not really worth going to. Find somewhere better. There are tons of local steak places better than this one. read more

This restaurant finds itself with a bit of an identity crisis. Is it a respectable steakhouse? Is it a sports bar? Is it Chuck E. Cheese? Well, the answer is probably no to all three. Still, I have no major complaints about anything over the past few years when I've dropped in. Would I go back? Yeah. Would I tell my friends? Probably. Is it the best food I've ever had? Not really. The pros: Portions are huge. Kid meals have cool, "gimmicks" like frisbee plates and dinosaur Mac n cheese bowls. TVs at tables are a nice diversion for when the kids go off to the game and play area (another plus). The cons: Food quality is average at best. Decor is very odd. I have never figured out the "library" look to the back of the place, while the front sections are a little more eclectic and modern. Prices, I would say are a bit too expensive, but then again, it does match the portions. So, it's not a place I would come back to every year, but it's a nice kid friendly place that has enough distractions for the kids to give mom and dad a few moments of adult conversation, or flip on the tv and watch something other than Spongebob. Now that I think of it, maybe that's what they're going for. If so, good job. I'd love to see it aim a bit higher though. read more

I wanna start off and say the food was excellent, however the service lacked severely. Spend over $130 on dinner and expected decent service, however the service was really poor from the beginning, our server greeted us with an attitude that that made us not feel welcome. We asked for stuff repeatedly before we would finally receive them. A few items were never brought to the table. The drinks were sat down on the table in a forceful manner, the whole attitude from the server was the topic of our conversation this evening. Me and my girlfriend always come here every time we come to Myrtle. It's become almost tradition. All the times have been wonderful until this time. Always love the atmosphere and nothing has changed with that and the staff was wonderful. ... my Diet Coke and my girlfriend had mt dew and it tasted rough. The food was okay but I wouldn't suggest getting the "boneless wings" they are tough and fatty. My girlfriend got buffalo friend shrimp and it didn't taste even close to what shrimp should. My mom found the house salad dressing a tad spicy but that probably comes down to personal taste. My $7.00 burger came with a tiny overcooked patty that would be shamed by a McDonald's Quarter Pounder. Mom's ribeye was okay but seemed like only medium quality meat. Got dragged here by friends. Not a bad place. Definite had the chain restaurant feel to it. Had the ribs which were good not great. comparable to Applebee's or Chili's. Which is a shame bc there are some many places to get good ribs in this area. The burgers were surprisingly good. The menu states that they will only serve them cooked medium or well done. Most chain restaurants do this bc the quality of their meat is so poor that cooking it rare or even medium rare is dangerous. On the plus side. Our server Fran was great. She was so sweet and oozed of Southern Charm. I would actually return if they could guarantee she would be our server. Been coming to MB for 12 years now. So many great LOCAL places here. This is not a support the local economy statement. The local spots are so much better for quality and price. Overall, our food was fantastic and our waiter was amazing as well. However, when we ordered the cookie skillet for dessert, we were shocked at how small it was. We asked to speak to a manager just to let him know that for a dessert, it was very small and wasn't even a full cookie. The night manager Joe looked at us very rudely and said "well it's not an entree, I'm glad you find it laughable." And then while we were chatting with him he walked away. This place is solid. Not bad, not great. Food is decent and maybe a little pricey for what you get. I enjoy trying local beers while traveling and tried to do so here. However my first 3 choices from the beer menu we're not available. Unfortunately, the waitress didn't know and made 3 trips back and forth before I just ordered a bottle of some domestic. Our server was OK, not very talkative but fairly responsive. The restaurant itself is fairly dark and noisy, but not overly so. Not sure if they were having an issue with the AC, but it was fairly warm inside for summer, IMO. If you have a large party, I would expect they will have no problem seating you as the restaurant is fairly large. This restaurant falls in the middle of the pack for me at Myrtle. read more

If you love dining with roaches, this is the place for you! I chose this place because it used to be clean with tasty food. However, as I ate my appetizer, I discovered a roach had crawled up on top of the table and began crawling on my silverware. I killed it and decided to move tables and give it a second try. Maybe it was just THAT booth. The food came out, which was insect free and mediocre at best. As I was finishing my steak, I discovered A SECOND roach crawled on the table for my leftovers. It was NOT even afraid of daylight and seemed shocked I had encroached on its habitat. The server and host apologized and did NOT seem surprised at my discovery. I left the dead insects on the tables to show the employees. Management was nowhere in sight and never visited my table to address this situation. Never in my life will I return to eat here. Now, the 48 hour marinated Ribeye was definitely NOT a ribeye, the marinade flavor was wonderful however if you don't wish to pay Ribeye price for a sirloin do NOT order it. Tthe food was good with generous portions. Since we are here with both of our children and their children we had a large party; no problem. Without a reservation we had to wait only about 15 minutes. since we had come at the very end of the season we assumed that they would have been very busy in season.
