COME FOR THE SPARKLES. The sparkling wines is what they do best, that and the sweet varieties. We really enjoyed the "A Kiss of Chocolate" and the "2015 Muscat Canelli" are the stars in my opinion, but I am a fan of desert wines. The atmosphere, service, and overall experience are midway at best. There is a very laid-back attitude with the staff, and the theme park style restrooms are definitely out of place for the area. The tastings are conducted in an unorthodox method, you can choose a flight, or alacarte tastings, to which there are pros and cons. The pros, you get all tastings at the same time, and the portions are generous. The cons, you get no personal interaction with a som, and you can't purchase bottles from the tasting room, you have to go to the gift shop....from a marketing standpoint, im sure sales are affected. All in all, the 4 stars is based on our enjoyment of the wines, but not so much the experience. read more

Wow! What a great value.... it really pays to be a member of Thornton Winery! The discounts on food, concerts and the 2 flights you get per visit amazing!! Can you say Lobster Panini! My favorite on the menu. Every server we have had has been super friendly and attentive. Jordan has served our group at least 3 times really nice but our go to server is Lisa! She actually remembers our drinks and were we like to sit...maybe that speak to our frequency of the winery lol either way it's really cool to have that kind of great service! Also check out the concert line up for the Summer great artist! We saw Jonathan Butler and plan to catch a few more including Kenny G. This restaurant treated my Fiancée and soon to be Brother & sister in-law as well as myself to an amazing dinner this past Memorial Monday and we were throughly impressed with the service that we received!! They went above and beyond with providing us an amazing dining experience and I just wanted to take a moment to point out our favorite items on the menu. The short rib entree was extremely delicious and I highly recommend it (My entree)!! We also enjoyed the goat cheese appetizer platter that came with a very large serving of goat cheese balls and bread to be served on. UPDATE and response to the business comment: I don't usually write reviews or complain. My post covered four visits and I felt a duty for others to know how you run your establishment. Instead of addressing my concerns you decide to write a lengthy answer of lies mingled with confirmation of almost everything I said Lie 1 : The price has not risen 75%. But admit prices have gone from $10 to $15 with $2.50 that a 75% increase Did I lie? Btw I still think that is reasonable which I mentioned in my OP. Lie 2: meals never took 2 hrs. Then admit the concert is 3 hrs long. So did I lie? I didn't get the meal until close to the end of the concert. I'm not the only reviewer stated how slow Your service. Not to mention you stated that you want people to come early so that you may get their meal to them. Lie 3. No min purchase of wine. The May visit had a 1 bottle min and appetizer purchase Lie 4. My parents didn't ask for their table. Fact is they were denied seating they were told they had to seat in general admission. No one will choose ga when they k can have a table. The ga seats are close and they are the meal standing up. Lie 5 Caring about my business You as a rep for Thornton do not care about my business because if you would try to address my concerns. I originally stated I would be back as soon as I read about changes. I doubt that very much. I'm guessing that you ignored others customers' concerns also. people really need to avoid this place you've worked too hard for your money to patronize a business that has shown no concern for their patrons. This rating comes from several visits and overall customer service. I've been here 3 times for the Friday night concert with table dinner, all this summer. Each time it seem to get worse. Thornton seems to be overwhelmed with the amount people that they need to accommodate. Tickets prices have increased 75% from May to August. Which overall is still reasonable but they makeup for it with dinner costs On Our 1st visit we was required to buy a bottle of wine per table which ended up buying three and a appetizer which in my opinion is all the kitchen can handle. The cheese board took 30 min to come out and my husband chair was taken when he stepped away, I think from over booking but it was replaced after telling someone. Our next visit they change the mandatory purchase to a dinner per person. They cannot handle this demand. The food was good but pricey $25 for a burger. It took well over an hour to come. I was too busy dancing and having fun to know exactly how long it took and the wait didn't really bother me. On my third visit, it took TWO Hours for my husband meal to come which once again he said was good and cost $2?.00 for the short ribs. Mine came when the band was on their last song, it was a half of beef sandwich that was cold and terrible, it taste like what Alpo looks like and cost $24. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I had said I was not going back anytime soon or until Thornton is able to handle their demand, but my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday here which comes to my worst experience. I made reservations 2 months ago and purchased tickets for four; which included my parents. There was about 75 people for the bday party. Due to an accident my husband had we couldn't go and my parents took their friends. They was denied a table and was told to go to the bleachers (gm) They still had fun but I was charged for not keeping the reservation even though they came and asked for their table. I called Thornton and spoke to Kyle where he informed me that my parents should have went to another door and checked in about their table. Even though the woman at the gate looked at their ticket and told them to have a seat in the bleachers. They told them they didn't have reservations for a table and could not get one because they were booked. They would not table them I WILL NOT GO BACK AGAIN . This place is overall fun but they cannot handle their crowd, and everyone need to be cautious when visiting especially on Friday nights, 2 of the 3 times that I went there;There were sobriety check points just west of the winery. read more

First of all, this is not a "hands-on" type of a cooking class, for those of you who expect that. There were rows of tables set up with wine glasses, for tasting paired wines, with the chef's working station in the front. There were two mirrors behind the chef, which still did not make it easy to view his action. I guess we all know how to chop and pour, so that was o.k. The class I attended was about making several different kinds of "bisque," which require a lot of cream before blending all the ingredients. Then the finished soups, which were pre-made in the kitchen, were delivered to the tables in small cups. Only one spoon though! We had to save that spoon, and it was a tea spoon, haha :(( You'd think Thorton winery can afford soup spoons, and more of them per customer, so that we can have a fresh spoon for each soups. Go figure. Lastly, the recipes were not adequate either. They were basic ingredients and direction, which can be easily found on the internet. First and foremost: the wine was fantastic. I cannot wait until we return for a proper tasting. I'll update this review then. So, my family and I dined at Thornton Winery for their Thanksgiving event. It was our first time ever not cooking dinner at home so, that in and of itself was a little jarring but, the food more than satisfied everyone in our party. For dinner: as a starter, I enjoyed a perfectly dressed salad with spiced pecans, blue cheese, cherry tomatoes, and a lovely vinaigrette. For the main course, I dined on a generous filet mignon cooked medium rare drizzled in a decadent sauce with crispy onions, a crunchy potato croquette, and a smattering of roasted vegetables. The drawbacks were few and marginal. On my plate: the oversized nature of the croquette posed a challenge. While delicious, it was likely bigger than the filet. I couldn't finish it! Then there was the rather sparse serving of vegetables. They were delicious but, two carrots and two asparagus spears?! I'd have been more satisfied with half the croquette and twice the vegetables (though I imagine I'm in the minority there). There was also a matter of seating. Rectangular tables inhibit the ability of the attendees to really engage everyone in conversation. You're rather limited to those at your immediate side and cross. That's fine in most settings, especially when you're able to mingle but, for a dining experience on Thanksgiving, it's not ideal. In the future, while circular tables likely consume more floorspace, they provide a much more conducive space for family gatherings such as these. read more

Ate at Cafe Champagne with four girlfriends for a 30th bday celebration. Once sat no one checked in with us for 20 minutes. The restaurant wasn't that busy. Finally the hostess started to wait on us. The food was very expensive and mediocre. There wasn't much ambiance in the restaurant and the table flowers were artificial which is so tacky for a pricey upscale restaurant and menu. Horrible!!! So you got a really bad time during quarantine, I get that.. but seems like you don't care about customer service, just care about making your money back. The hostess didn't say anything, they wait until you are sit down and the waiter lets you know that unless you order the bread, everything you order in the menu and I'm talking about anything, will take 1 hour to get it. Why the hostess didn't say anything? We are just eating bread for actually over an hour. To get the mushroom cream soup that was a mix of chicken and beef in a concoction that was probably been cooking for a week and they just kept adding water. The salmon was prepared for no consumption...I'm not exaggerating. So you wait over one hour to get the worst food. People that got sat down after us got the waiter first. Finishing eating at 10:30! The worst is trying to make the best of it and then you have the staff cleaning and taking things away ready to close while you are still eating. The bathroom was disgusting and smelled like cheese going bad, I felt bad for the people sitting around that area. I can't believe the waiter offered dessert after dinner after seeing people cleaning around us and putting things away for the night. Was dessert also going to take another hour? We started with the bruschetta, which was $22 (something similar elsewhere would be like $10 max...there was nothing special about it). I got an eggplant panini (which was really just a piece of eggplant and some cheese stuck between slices of sourdough) and it was $21!! I was very excited to eat at Thornton winery for dinner this evening. I had looked at the menu prior to dining and though I thought the entrees were on the pricier side, I was willing to give it a go. The winery is very beautiful with great views. The dinner was awful! My friend and I ordered the same exact meal, filet mignon with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables. A $45 entree. Mine came with charred potatoes and brown, skinny, limp asparagus. My friends came out with broccoli, the same dish. The waitress Christy basically abandoned us and when she came by I complained about the quality of my vegetables and she could not provide a reason why; my friend and I ordered the same dish. She then laughed as she walked away from the table. She did give me 20% off my filet, a $9 savings, but she should have called a manager. I'm just actually very upset that the chef looked at my dish and decided that it looked appetizing, it did not. The filet was pretty good but I ordered it medium rare and it came on the medium side more than the rare side, our filets also looked completely different. Jacob the guy that served the wine was very kind and made an excellent suggestion for a red when another person in my party didn't care for the Sauvignon Blanc. I'm very disappointed in my experience at Thornton. I'm looking around the restaurant most patrons ordered appetizers or burgers and wraps, which another member of my party ordered and thought it was delicious. We made reservations for dinner for 8 pm thru Opentable at Cafe Champagne. We arrived and the host called me by name and walked to to your table. A slight hiccup led to waiting fifteen minutes before our server came (my guess is the host seated us in a different section and didn't alert the server we had been seated. Aside from the slight mix up the rest of our time there was absolutely amazing. Scott was an absolute delight. We ordered the fried artichoke appetizer and a Pinot Grigio and sauv blanc. They were a little bit on the sweeter side (still delicious!) so we decided to switch to the reds for our meal. My husband ordered the salmon and I got the roasted chicken. I usually don't order chicken when I eat out but am glad I did- it was so perfectly crispy on the outside and super moist on the inside. Scott explained that the prep time for that dish is so long bc they sear it first before roasting it. It was amazing. Bc we had a late reservation (and the slight mix up at the beginning) we ended up being the last people there... it would not have surprised me if they had tried to hurry us out but they did the absolute opposite. Not only did they bring me a brownie with a candle since it was my birthday but Scott brought us so many tasting of all their different red ones- they were all so yummy. We ordered a glass of the Barbera but also got to taste other selections. We ended up buying a bottle of the barbera and will definitely come back to do another full tasting of their reds. I understand why this was the only winery with an available reservation on Friday night. And why the reviews are either great or poor and no middle ground. I'm telling the real story here. Take note: If you ask about the flight discount, you can get it if you give a good review - which is before you get any food or wine. The wait staff were all friendly and seemed to do the best they could & the scenery was beautiful, but the winery needs more than that. The food was obviously frozen and reheated. I could overlook the cafeteria plates if the presentation was nice - it was awful. The four chunks of fish with plastic cups of sauce - not appealing at all. And no seasoning or flavor. OVERPRICED at $26! As for the wine flight $29 - there were all on the same one note with slight distinctions. I have never not finished a flight even if I didn't care for a particular wine. The place needs an update as well. Plastic tablecloths, wood & paper under tables so they don't rock, areas just left as they were from earlier settings, it was just an unappealing mess. I hope the owners and managers take note and really look at making some changes. read more
