I love that the North End has such a cool-vibe cafe, however, with no Wi-Fi it kinda sucks. How does a cafe not have free Wi-Fi in 2013? And when I am in there with my computer and my own internet, I feel like they are circling me like vultures. It's like they were annoyed that I was working while having my coffee. I want to be in love with this place SO badly. It just has some more convincing to do. I've stopped in a couple times, for a chai and for lunch. Their chai is hands-down one of the best I've had in Boston, that's un-wavering. When my friend and I received our sandwiches, we were a little disappointed that we paid between $7-10 for a skinny, small sandwich with not even chips or anything on the side. It was tasty, but unsatisfying and we left still hungry. One thing that isn't disappointing in the service. Everyone behind the counter, from the people taking your order to the barista to the people who bring out the food, is friendly and nice. That and the chai (and gawking at the bakery items) will keep me going back on a blue moon. read more

A very mixed review. The good: First of all, the staff here -for the most part- are very friendly and accommodating. The pastries are amazing, and most of the sandwiches are really tasty. The space is nice and, even on crowded days, one can usually find a table with a little patience. Also, the place is open until 11:00 pm, a rarity in Boston. The middle: The coffee is really expensive. There is no shortage of coffee choices in The North End, but the other problem is that the coffee here is good. That is worth the extra price sometimes. For another quick local chain, The Boston Common Coffee around the corner is more affordable, but also tastes kind of...blah. The same goes for the sandwiches. Also very pricey, but they are rather flavorful which makes them worth the splurge now and then. The bad: Sometimes the music is so loud here it is difficult to find a seat where one isn't being blasted by it. This is The North End so, especially on weekends, the place is flooded with rude tourists, rude townies, and (let's face it) rude North End locals. Three times here I have ordered a yogurt parfait and it when I opened it it was old, left over, moldy, or rancid. I have told the management about this in because they may want to know that they are serving their customers a poor (or gross) product, and yet it is still happening. The quality of the drinks we got were terrific--espresso shots for him and a homemade (not out of the box) chai latte for me--but the portions were almost ridiculously small for the cost. I think my small chai was about 5 oz and he swears his 4 shots was actually about 2. Tasted great, though. read more

Great coffee place. We had the regular pre-made drip coffee, and a cortado. We would've tried a pour over, but the staff let us know that there were a couple orders ahead of us, and that it'd be a 20 minute wait. Although food is good - service and manager extremely rude. We waited almost 20 minutes for lattes. I went to the person making the coffees and asked when our coffee would be ready. He asked what is the name. I gave him the name and he said we do not have an order under that name. I told him what we ordered and he said he had no such order. He asked me for the sales slip which we had misplaced. He just started to ignore me and the waiter who took the order was on break. I asked to speak to the manager and he said " I am the manager " ! We went back and forth until he finally made our lattes . The straw that broke the camels back was as I walked away disgruntled, he gave a very sarcastic " HAVE A NICE DAY NOW " I was beside myself . Thinking Cup is favorite place for breakfast & coffee on the weekends. I always order either the oatmeal (with fresh cut fruit) or yogurt parfait (the granola they give you with it is delicious!) Awesome place to grab a snack. Wonderful pastry treat selection, and a good mix of hot and cold beverages. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't rate that. I love all things chocolate - and have never been disappointed here. Overall there is a good vibe, and nice ambiance. The food is good, albeit a bit expensive, but being in the North End, pretty much everything is a bit expensive. Plenty of seating, but it can get crowded, and difficult to find an open seat though at certain times of the day, and especially on weekends. Glad to have them in the neighborhood! read more

I'm perplexed by this place. I tried to charge my phone before we set our for our walk on the Freedom Trail and I only found one functioning outlet out of the 8 outlets I tried and that wouldn't have been an issue for me if I hadn't been told at the counter that they don't offer wifi. What?! No wifi at a coffee shop of this size and at a prime location in the north end of Boston? I guess that would explain the prevailing emptiness at what should have been a peak hour for any establishment in this bustling area. The girl who took my order the last two times was very confused and got it wrong so I ended up waiting a verrrryyyyyy long time, but other than that it was a pleasant experience! If you want an iced coffee--this is where it's at. And if you want to work, this particular location (as opposed to its brother by the Common), has plenty of room to enjoy your Modern Pastry cannoli along with your beverage of choice. Needed to settle down somewhere and get some work done, and I definitely didn't have enough energy to walk any more than the half block from my lunch place to Thinking Cup. Coming from Chicago's total hipster cafe scene, I was really pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and extensive menu choices here. From a plethora of drinks to sandwiches and cafe items to an aisle of items in the bake case, everything was about choice. It was just the right amount of dark and broody to make for a really down to earth and chill space. Lots of seating when I was there on a Friday afternoon. This new location is awesome, even more so than the original, which I also love! The space is gorgeous and it's more spacious than the Tremont location. They still offer all the wonderful coffees, teas, sandwiches, and pastries, but they also have an extensive grilled cheese menu. Service is friendly and attentive and decor is smart and interesting. Love this place. Whatever you order, I don't think you can go wrong. My drink pick is the hazelnut latte, but all of the coffees are fresh and chosen with care so any choice will end up being a good choice. read more

i've never been to the thinking cup downtown before, so when i saw that they newly opened a branch in the north end i was ecstatic. they sell only stumptown coffee, so you know it's bound to be good. i got a bag of beans for $15 and came back later to buy their hazelnut latte. i think they have real hazelnuts ground into their coffee. i liked it, but i wouldn't recommend it if you like your coffee smooth. i'll be visiting you very often, thinking cup :) read more

This popular North End spot is always busy, but I came here right when it opened before my 9AM boxing class to get some work done. It was fairly empty, but just beginning to get bustling. I ordered a cold brew and sat down at a table to work; it's pretty dimly lit in the back. Their cold brew is good and it was cute to see all the families come in or the old men reading their newspapers; it'd also be a nice place to peoplewatch, but beware: it gets extremely crowded at peak hours and you probably won't be able to find a seat. read more

I was all about thinking cup when I came here. I still like it but the brew isn't something I can drink no matter how much whole milk is in it. That said lattes are weak but good (ask for extra shots) and the atmosphere is great. They need wifi but the North End location is the only one where you can piggy back a guest network so I'm happy. read more

The description says vine-reopened tomatoes and kalamata olives, but it tastes suspiciously like hothouse tomatoes and black olives from a can.
