husband's sandwich... gray man. Supposed to chew through this? Inedible

If I could do Zero stars I would. First, this is my second visit here. My daughter brought me here in May for lunch. We had Thai Food then and it was very good. Today I returned with my husband for lunch. Ordered two iced teas, two steak sandwiches ($29 ea), prepaid at counter, and it was $85 with tax and tip. We found a table and waited 30 min in a nearly empty restaurant. Let me say, I don't mind paying for great food and have come to lower my expectations post pandemic to mediocre to good being normal. This didn't even reach the mediocre threshold. We were served inedible steak sandwiches. The ribeye steak was not even cut up or ideally sliced. Had they tried slicing it they would have known it was nothing but a tough, grizzled, chunk of meat. I tried to eat it. My husband gave up sooner. I gave it about three bites each thinking it would get better and I was hungry (contributing to poor judgment in selecting the place). After chewing each bite endlessly, I was left with a piece of nasty grizzle and fat that had to be spat out into my napkin. After a few bites I had a pile of grizzle. Disgusting. We left. Under no circumstances would I recommend eating at this establishment. What a disappointment. As we were leaving I overheard the person working the counter tell a customer who wanted an egg sandwich to order, "No we can't do that, we order the egg in premade." OMG, go elsewhere.

very cute breakfast place on main Street. good latte. we had the breakfast sandwich with ham, also the truffle grilled cheese with tomato soup. sandwiches were delicious, the soup is a bit salty.

Great food and drinks with super friendly staff. The interior is super cosy feeling with great ambiance. We had the pork soup dumplings, steak sandwich, and spaghettini with Italian sausage which were all super tasty. We also had a chai latte and a thai tea. The Thai tea wasn't as quite sweet as what I've had else where but it was still absolutely delicious! The friendly staff and the soup dumplings are definitely the highlights of this place. Definitely visit if you are in Windham :)

Nice modern coffee shop with a spacious interior and quality coffee and breakfast/lunch food options. I got the Steak Sandwich, which had ribeye steak, mushrooms, cheese, and chimichurri sauce on ciabatta bread with a side salad. The sandwich was really tasty, as the steak was very tender and cut into comfortably sized pieces. The cheese was nice and melted inside and the mushrooms were good as well. The ciabatta bread was a good level of softness and crispiness on the outside. $24.50 for this sandwich which includes ribeye steak is reasonable. The place itself is nice with wooden tables and chairs. The tall ceilings give the space a very open feel, and there is a decent amount of seating inside. You order up at the counter and they can bring you your food or call out your name when your drink/food is ready. The staff are moderately friendly and the service speed is pretty good. The place is located in the main area of town, so you will likely have to find street parking. Overall, I would highly recommend The Windham Local if you are looking for a casual yet nice breakfast/lunch spot or a morning coffee.

Couldn't eat the pad thai without risking a stroke from all the salt they put in the meal.

How this place received a 4.4 is beyond me. If I could give this place a negative 1 star I would. I seldom write a negative review but with my recent experience at this facility I will make an exception. Upon entering the establishment I wasn't sure if they were open since I was the only patron at the restaurant and I clearly see why. The waitress who served me looked like she was having a bad day and clearly showed it through the grimace on her face. She reluctantly took our order of pork soup dumplings, my wife had a shrimp pad thai and I had a stir fry veggies with steak. The soup dumplings clearly tasted as if it was bought from trader joes and heated up in a microwave, my steak stir fry was tasteless and my wife shrimp pad thai was extremely salty, it felt like they dump a bottle of table salt on the meal. The meal was vile and odious, when my wife complained about her meal being salty the waitress simply said, "deal with it, thats the way our chef makes it." Along with a slew of nasty comments she made. When I went to complain to the manager, she simply didn't care and was just as dismissive. For a meal that cost just as high as a 5star restaurant in nyc, you would at least expect good service. I can't see this business lasting through the winter. I advice you to please stay away at all cost. Eating a discarded McDonald's meal from a dumpster is more appetizing than the crap they serve here.

The Catskills Cuban and Chicken Portobello wrap

4.5 stars. Really nice, spacious coffee shop/café. Super fresh ingredients and a substantial food and drink menu. They even had beer/wine/brunch cocktails. The coffee was solid- they use beans from Oslo Coffee Roasters. We stayed in the area for two nights and ended up eating here for lunch as soon as we got in and then breakfast before heading home. I had the Catskill Cuban and my fiancé had the chicken portobello wrap. Food took some time to come out but was clearly freshly made to order. I don't normally go for Cuban sandwiches but tried this version because they use roasted chicken and ham instead of the traditional roasted pork and ham. The sandwich was lighter with the chicken but still had some of the salty, tangy flavors of a traditional Cuban which was perfect for me. Breakfast a couple days later did not disappoint either. I had the quiche with tomato, feta, and asparagus as well as a scone. My fiancé had the breakfast burrito which he said was filling but a little bland. This place is a no brainer whether you live in the area or are visiting. Prices were comparable to NYC coffee shop/café prices.

Great cafe! The Windham Local has delicious pastries, fresh coffee and excellent service. Kevin put our group order together quickly, made sure we had menus to plan for our next meal and told us about some exciting opportunities to eat, socialize and learn that he's planning for the summer... I won't ruin the surprise! My family comes up from the city to weekend in Windham and we are happy to frequent this cafe. My parents have great reviews of the savory dishes, but I can only speak to the pastries. Delicious!! and fresh! read more

Yum. We ordered takeout for our ride back down south and everything was made to our liking and then some. When a place can please the whole family, you know its a winner. The farm-fresh egg sandwiches were delicious (even to a very picky 10-year-old), and the lox on a bagel dish was excellent. The staff was sweet and very welcoming. Definitely save room for a maple latte and a pecan sticky bun...to die for! We'll be back. read more

Adorable little café that is also a bar in the evening. I missed their Friday night live music! It's really a great spot for live music in my opinion- cozy but with high ceilings so it feels roomy enough. They had great coffee and, as silly as it sounds, I had one of the best teas I've ever had! That secret splash of vanilla was genius! It was nice that they had steel cut oatmeal as a vegan option and it was a nice big portion. Also we tried one of their homemade doughnuts and it was pretty good :) Like this spot! read more

Loved everything about this place! Came here for breakfast this morning before heading up to ski area. Delicious latte, apple fritter was best I've ever had and breakfast sandwich was yummy! My husband and I shared everything and it was super satisfying. Highly recommend sharing one sweet treat and one savory item to get the best of both worlds. Wish we were in town longer so I could hear live music Friday nights and try the rest of the menu! read more

We love to go there for lunch. Always delicious and kids friendly. Also serve wine and beer so that't great for Sunday brunch. You can bring your lap top and do some work while charging it. They have many outlets. read more

Was staying in Windham for the first time. Not a lot going on in the town but this was the best spot in Windham to grab something to eat and listen to live music. I had the tomato soup and warm pretzel with realllly good mustard. Also really enjoyed the Mother's Milk stout. Overall chill vibe. I went to another restaurant up the street the first night that was offering up NYC prices without the NYC flavor and no music at all. Just the sound of clinking cutlery. The Windham Local has an unpretentious atmosphere. read more

Excellent food with a menu that incorporates Thai, American classics and Mexican. Lovely ambiance. Team is on top of it and lovely! To-go containers are cardboard not plastic- THANK YOU! I love this place. Have not been since the pandemic but I miss it so much. The food is amazing. I grew up spending summers in Windham since the 1980s and while the town and ski area have changed a lot, I welcome such wonderful dining. Can't wait to go back. read more

Nice spot/ cafe. Tried the breakfast burrito -- small, lots of polenta, not much egg. Not what I had imagined. Bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit much more promising -- generous portion. No milk? Limited breakfast menu, more of a morning coffee, donut, and lunch spot. Tasteful decor. Pleasant summer staff, but still figuring out the ropes. read more

Really slow service this past Saturday, but I understand due to COVID. My son loved his steak sandwich, which was a special, so I am giving stars for that. However my Pad Thai was the worst I have ever had, I had ordered it due to others' positive reviews. I wouldn't even call it Pad Thai -- instead of the flat rice noodles, they used the skinny vermicelli noodles (maybe they ran out of the flat noodles?). And the dish had a lot of sauce which was really sweet while also vinegary. Really awful. I couldn't order anything else because we had already waited 44 minutes for our order. Overall not a bad place, cute decor and they are very careful with the COVID restrictions. I just wouldn't recommend the Pad Thai. read more

My fiancee and I stopped by for breakfast before our trip back down to Long Island. We both got the breakfast sandwich which we agreed was incredible and filling. I got a coffee which was pretty good. We got a maple bacon donut and a glazed donut to go and they were also very good - the glazed almost tasted like a zeppole, which isn't a bad thing. We'll definitely stop by again when we're in the area. read more

I found Windham Local by a lucky accident and will keep going back. It's a very comfortable well designed space that keeps faith with the mountains around it while still having a cosmopolitan twist. Anyone who goes skiing in Windham or nearby Hunter will want to stop by for the great coffee AND the reasonably priced food selections. The tables made from thick slices of big trees are really cool. Friendly efficient service and ownership with roots and experience in Brooklyn NY. read more

Love, love, love the breakfast sandwiches. When we don't have time to stay, they put the sandwiches in a box, with the tasty sauce, and a couple of napkins to go. So incredibly delicious to the last bite. The coffee is good hot or iced, and we try to avoid the freshly made donuts because they are addicting. They are totally worth the calories! So we pick one and split it. Half the calories, half the guilt. The interior has plenty of seating choices. Large tables, small tables, bar height and the sofa seating area, which is great for relaxing with a cup of coffee. The staff is friendly and service is good. read more

Went here for lunch a few weeks ago with my a big group. We called ahead to make a reservation. Our tables were ready when we got there. The restaurant is small so we had two tables next to each other. This place is super cute and quaint. It is a small coffee shop vibe and has a couches and boards games available to play. The menu had a variety of breakfast and lunch options to choose from since it was a Saturday afternoon. They had a few vegan options for me to choose from. I opted for the veggie wrap which came with a side salad. It was so delicious and tasty! My fiancé got the same thing and couldn't stop raving about it! A few people got coffee and lattes and said they were great! They also serve beer and alcohol. Coffee shop and bar all in one place! That's my kind of place! My friend said the grilled cheese and tomato soup was perfect! It was all good comfort food! Another friend got the Mac and cheese and loved it. Overall, everyone loved their lunch that day. The service was quick and everyone that worked there was friendly and nice. I will be back here whenever I'm in the windham area again for sure! read more

My husband and I had a great lunch here! Fresh, local, and healthy, there were tons of great breakfast or lunch options. I definitely appreciated the variety of gluten free items, and even more so when the manager cared enough to show me the gluten free wrap packaging to ensure it was safe for me. Windham needed a nice coffee shop like this. Atmosphere is great, food and coffee is awesome. I so love the atmosphere. The coffee is the best quality in the town. Food takes forever to come out and 5/10 times the order is wrong in some way. But i still stop in from time to time because their breakfast sandwiches with the harissa sauce is explosive! read more

This is a non-negotiable stop every time I am in the Catskills. I always find something new and delicious to try. Not homemade but locally made soaps and tons of other goodies. They have it all here. Candy, decorations, merch and more. There is also a dining area, ice cream, coffee bar, and even a farm out back with animals you can go look at and a teeny, tiny maple museum that's worth peaking your head in. My bf has been coming here since he was a kid, and now we make a tradition to stop here every single time we are upstate. I couldn't imagine going up and not stopping here.

Five-star food. We had their coffee, cappuccinos, scones, bagels, and finally, the apple blueberry crumble with vanilla ice cream. Everything was excellent. The place looks like a coffee shop but serves meals as well. My review is just for the cafe part. The service is a little on the slower side, but the ambiance is well enough that you just want to sit here and talk or look around anyway. read more

We were so excited when this opened and would go at least every week and also get all our coffee there, despite service taking forever. Then I was personally insulted by the staff: They wouldn't help another customer and when I tried to, I was yelled at.
