Cute bar/restaurant in Roxbury, NY which is a small town with only a handful of eateries. Cool vibe in there, with a decent local beer selection. Unfortunately, the food left us feeling ripped off. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap (but received the chicken bacon wrap instead). Not a big deal though- I was hungry, food took a while to come out so didn't want to wait for it to be rectified, and I was able to just pick out the bacon. My wrap had 2 pieces of frozen chicken tenders in it. This was really sad, considering it was $17. My husband had one of the skillets, which also clearly included some frozen food (i.e. the potatoes). We made the best of it, but definitely hope the food situation improves here. I wouldn't not recommend, especially if you're in a pinch, and given the limited options on the area. Also a nice place to come for a beer! They have outdoor seating as well. read more

Slow service. The lady was on another planet. They were out of the drink I wanted and then out of my backup Cab. My friends ordered their beers that came after two to four reminders. I ordered the chicken sandwich special. It was decent. Not amazing. But good enough. Best part was that she thought she was waiting for us to pay, but we hadn't even asked for the bill. We were waiting to order the dessert she gave us the menu for. When she brought out the dessert she looked at the one I ordered and legit said "I don't know what this is...." That one sentence was the way the whole meal could be described. But overall a fun experience because of the company that we kept. read more

The crispy butter brioche buns smash together with BLT and fried eggs... The only regret I had was sharing it with my husband. I think they are understaffed. We went for dinner on a Thursday night during our trip to Catskills, it was full house with just one waitress working. We waited for a looong time for service and food. Despite the wait, they do served up pretty solid food. We got the soup which was quite salty but the Texas Patty Melt (burger) and Pesto Chicken Sandwich was tasty and flavorful. We used to like this place before it became Chappie's, but not really since it super leaned-in to a Brooklyn wannabe. It's okay. Food is average, specials were okay, and considering that it's a small town with not a lot of selection, and (we hope) people are being paid well, prices aren't super crazy. The staff here was very friendly. My daughter got the hot chocolate for kids but it had too much sweets on top... next time, I would probably ask them to leave off the whipped cream and marshmallows so it wouldn't ruin her appetite for her main meal. Kids got the chicken fingers lunch, and order of bacon. I got the blueberry French toast which I really like. My bow got the regular French toast. We also got a pot of the French press. I visited Chappie's on a Saturday night so it was definitely extremely busy but it was a little shocking that we made a dinner reservation for 5:45pm and I don't think we were served any food until after 7pm. The food was INCREDIBLE though, I have to say everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great, my group enjoyed everything we ordered. Lighting was nice and dim, a little cramped overall but the food was so good, it makes sense so many people want to eat there! read more

We visited Chappie's while staying in Roxbury. It's located at the center of a very small town and Main St. There are just 2-3 restaurants in town, but they definitely don't slack on the quality of the food. The smoked trout appetizer is excellent, as are the fries - they are made fresh from real potatoes and not frozen. The menu is better-than-casual gastropub fare (burgers/sandwiches, artisanal pizzas, salads, wings, apps, and a couple of entrees) - pretty simple but done well, and we enjoyed our burgers. The worst burnt, yet soggy fries I've ever had. Hair! in 3 out of 4 plates. I dont think they believed us after the second one. Wouldn't even look at us or talk to us. We were in town to get away from the city before the summer kicked off. Lucky for us, Chappies is one of the only restaurants open before Thursday, so automatic bonus points for availability. We had popped in for an early dinner so we could enjoy the sunset in town afterward. We were quickly seated at any table we desired, as the indoor dining space was mostly empty sans a group of 4 in the back. Service was quick, pacing of the meal was fine. Select local beers on tap. Brief but exciting menu. Started with the wings, because why not, and the goat cheese salad with hangar steak. Finished off with the pizza of the day (chicken pesto) and sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Wings were a little overcooked and undersauced, but nothing a little buffalo sauce on the side can't fix. The goat cheese was super tangy and steak was perfectly medium cooked. The food here was great. Came in with my daughter after 2pm on Saturday, and there was obviously a huge crowd of folks who had just left. Almost every single table looked like Thanksgiving just ended. There was almost nowhere for us to sit, and as I looked around, I noticed that only one wait staff was working. Poor thing! She's going to go home with boku bucks, but that's a lot for one person. I can only imagine how it was in here a half hour earlier. But once we got situated, my daughter got a French Toast that she says was "meh" but she really liked the potatoes. I got a Triple Decker with Ham, and side of Split Pea Soup. I'm so glad I did. The pea soup was one of the finest I've ever had, extremely thick, chunky, and with great seasoning but a very natural flavor. I would have tried the Onion Soup but it's pretty expensive... but of they have the Split Pea when you visit, ABSOLUTELY try it if you like that soup. The Triple Decker was great, too... it's a really fat bread, and the sandwich has 3 layers, so the crust was a bit much. But I cut that baby in half and went to town. Really good. The food didn't take long to come out (unlike last night at The Old Mill where they obviously forgot about our order, and it took over an hour to serve), and I have to compliment these guys on keeping their bathroom tidy and nice. They might want to replace the seat on the toilet, though. If I lived here, I would absolutely be back but I would try to avoid peak busy hours. read more

I'm going to poop all over this place! The only experience I got was a 20 min wait "smelling" the food I never got to taste! Waited to be seated not realizing they basically were turning people away on an early Friday night (probably about 4:30-5pm). While several of us waited in this really SMALL store front thinking we were all going to be seated only to have a waitress tell us all the owner isn't going to seat any of us because he's at capacity. The six tables they had was capacity because it's small and when I say it's really small I'm not exaggerating. I think my frustration from my visit is having customers wait long only to turn us away. The waitress was super nice and you can see she felt dreadful being the messenger to tell us, "the owner said he's not going to serve you tonight!" They even suggested a sister restaurant around the corner claiming it was similar and served similar food but it did NOT serve similar food. The sister restaurant was a bit more pricey because they had better stuff (e.g., steak, salmon). I wanted a burger and fries; some comfort food. This is such a small town with literally only two restaurants the owner should maybe just put a sign on the door when he's at capacity and not have customers waiting for more than several minutes when you clearly know you I have no intentions of serving folks. I could have been driving to another location during the time I waited to be turned away. read more

Cute spot in the center of Roxbury. The waitstaff is a bit hit or miss but the food is outstanding! We were not in a rush to be anywhere so we enjoyed the mix and people that came in and didn't worry about the staff drama. There are not many options in this little town. Sweet surprise of a restaurant ! Entrees were plentiful and delicious. Drinks were well made.

As the only restaurant in Roxbury (currently), Chappies enjoys a distinct competitive advantage. As such the place can get very crowded so reservations are recommended. (We learned this after waiting awhile to be seated during our first visit). Chappie's is a fairly small place with pubby decor and an outdoor deck facing the main road. We ate indoors both times b/c all outdoor spots were taken, and honestly the room temperature was uncomfortably warm. Our friendly server Rob did his best to deal with the hungry hordes. Loved Chappies' version of regional specialty smoked Catskill trout, served with crusty bread and grainy mustard. Their brick oven pizzas are authentic and scrumptious; I especially savored the white shrimp and bacon pizza topped with fresh arugula. Organic greens with chicken was a nice lunch option too. Chappies' beer and wine menu is just OK. We were told the dinner menu is more extensive on weekends but we weren't there to check it out. Very good experience overall, will try them again once COVID-era short staffing issues are resolved (a common problem in this area now). read more

In town for my niece's wedding and options for dining locally are certainly limited. I contacted The Old Mill first and James was quick to get back to me. We decided to revise our reservation for 6 to Chappie's since the wedding party (massive) took over The Old Mill for most of the evening. Walked in at 6 to a very friendly waitress who got us seated right away. She was super chippy and got us some drinks. Nice to see a local brewery (Catskills) being highlighted with two drafts, so went with their Kolsch and it was very good. We ordered a few pizzas (my wife had the bbq chicken special and it was fantastic. Amazing crust!) and I had the pesto chicken sandwich. It was grilled chicken and a healthy option for me that night. Even healthier when it arrived and after a few bites, I noticed it had zero pesto on the sandwich. I am sure they would have corrected the issue or perhaps they ran out, but the sandwich was massive and served with rustic fries. The sandwich sat a tad long on the warming counter while the pizzas were being prepared, so not piping hot. The fries took the brunt of the damage, but still good. Without a missed step the kitchen & wait staff satisfied the hungry patrons last night with classic menu selections such as their Famous Burgers ( Hubbell Farm local beef) , Goat Cheese Salad, House made Veggie Burgers , and newly added" Mediterranean Baked Feta " served in a cast iron skillet , caramelized red onions, peppers, olives , accompanied by toasted pita wedges. We liked it. The servers were very nice. But it was a very tight squeeze. I loved my oatmeal stout and my salad and the burgers were also great. They seemed to have designed all their meals to fit into one dish, regardless of what it is, probably because it's really hard for the servers to get around. The prime rib tips special was served in a bowl over rice, which seemed a little odd to me. I think French onion soup in particular can be quite telling about a restaurant, but my friend reported it was perfect. Now let's talk about the pie. OMG. The fruit pie of the day was cherry. Myself and 14 of my friends and family came up to plattekill mountain for the day. We searched on Yelp and google for a restaurant close by to the mountain to go to after tubing. We found very minimal information on the local restaurants and most reviews were not the best. We also noticed that most restaurants open after 4pm, and the ones that were open really couldn't accommodate a group of 15. We found a place called Chappies out of 157 reviews they were rated 3.7. We called to see if they would accommodate us, the woman who answered was so pleasant and willing to accommodate us at prime lunch time. When we arrived they were pretty busy, and our table was reserved and ready for us with no wait time for seating. When placing our order the nice lady made sure to write everything down. I am very specific when it comes to my espresso martinis, I asked if they made it with real coffee, Kaluha and baileys and she said yes, that she makes it a chocolate espresso martini and asked if I would like it that way, I said sure. The martini was one of the best I have tried in quite sometime and the food was great. I had the burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, American, and bacon the patty was amazing...definitely not from frozen, I had it with a bacon potato soup and it was perfect...I wish I would have taken more home. Everyone at my table all 15 were so happy with their order and the service was great. The kids got hot chocolate with wip cream sprinkles and even little gummy worms I jokingly said oh wow I love gummy worms you kids are lucky I would love one, and then the nice lady came right back and gave me a little plate with some. We were spending a long weekend in the Catskills and this was one of the places recommended. It was a bit chilly outside so we dined indoors. Thankfully there was only one other table occupied so felt comfortable. The waiter was friendly and attentive, no complaints in this department. The food was good. The burgers were big and juicy, the fries were ok, not great. The soup of the day was not very flavorful so don't think we would order one of those again (cant even remember what the soup was). I think the dinner menu looks better and has more hearty meals, otherwise for lunch you are pretty much limited to soup, salad or sandwiches. There are some limited options out here, but I would say this spot is doing a good job with service during these challenging times. read more

We decided to go for a drive and stopped at Chappie's. It's hard to tell how much of the experience was dictated by the current crisis, but overall is was a relatively mediocre experience. Atmosphere: With COVID-19 we were dining alfresco, which was a nice place to sit and watch people wander around, though the chairs were pretty uncomfortable at the two-tops. It was also funny to see that the sign was largely only being held up with tie-wraps, but I digress. Service: Our waiter was incredibly friendly, but incredibly slow (when we got there, there were two other groups [3-4 people each] sitting) and it took about 25 minutes to for the waiter to take our orders (which admittedly may have been intentional to keep the kitchen from backing up. Food: It was pretty hit or miss. The Green Goddess Salad was ok, but the dressing was pretty bland. I was super excited to see that they had a patty melt on the menu so I ordered that only for a regular burger on a bun to come out. The waiter seemed to not understand what a patty melt was and when he asked the kitchen was basically told that chef didn't have the bread for a patty melt, so he decided to make me a burger instead (still charged me for a patty melt though). The Burger was obviously good quality meat with a nice loose grind on it, and it would have been decent if it had had the correct cook on it. We were also excited that the soup was a gazpacho so we ordered that and unfortunately is was completely devoid of flavor (the tomatoes were fresh, but didn't taste ripe and there appeared to be an absence of seasoning). As a side note if you bill yourself as a "Brunch" place guests shouldn't be told "No Breakfast Items" when they go to order on a Sunday. read more
