Just stayed the weekend in quiet, beautiful Roxbury. Only a few businesses; gas station, coffee shop, general store and a restaurant....Chappies. The restaurant was casual & welcoming, staff were very friendly. Good ambience and we enjoyed the eclectic jazzy music. We went for the brunch and the food was very tasty. Smoked salmon Benedict served on a wood board with perfectly poached eggs was delicious, but the star of the show was the "Full English" breakfast. It carries a warning and that warning is.....it is Massive! 2 eggs, sausages, back bacon just like in England, baked beans tomatoes etc in a portion size that would feed a family, or Andre the Giant. All for $15!! Highly recommended. We shall return. read more

After a hike to the waterfalls, perfect late lunch for young and mature. Delicious fresh food with plenty taste - a little fig, pickled onions and beets to add tang and sweetness to the burgers and salads. The Monticristo special was so great!!! DO NOT EAT HERE. Possibly the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. Dishes brought to the table were dirty, had to be sent back. Coffee was grainy like sand, spat out big chunks when I drank. Saw a couple sit down and wait for any service for 15 minutes before they got up and left. Food is unspectacular but not bad, but wow, if ignoring customers was an Olympic sport this restaurant would win gold. Stunned that this place is still open. They can't earnestly charge so much for their items when the ambiance and service is so terrible. Yikes. Worst restaurant experience in recent memory. read more

Awful service- super slow and less than friendly. First we waited 20 minutes to put in a drink order. Then once our food was served, we didn't see the waiter again- couldn't get a refill of water if we wanted. Even had to get up and find someone to pay the check. Placed a to go order at the start of the meal for a family member who wasn't joining and it took them close to an hour to get that done. We finished eating and it still wasn't ready. Completely understaffed and overall lack of service skill. Know how to make eye contact, speak to a paying customer and apologize when things don't go right. The owner was trying to do it all because the staff was so incompetent- he needs to start over. All of this and we had a reservation. To top it off everyone was seated on top of everyone- no social distancing. Someone should report them to the health department. read more

I don't have a degree in english lit but now I may have to get one, because I could write a short story about this place. And I have only been there once! Went in for lunch on a weekday with my family. The place was cool inside, clean, masks were on and there didn't appear to be a social distance issue. We were waited on by some english chap (see what I did there) I assume he was the owner. He was great! Went over the specials, took our orders and had out drinks to us in no time. Our food came out very quickly, it was not busy so I can't t attest to the service on say, a busy Saturday. I had ordered a sausage parmigiana sandwich, which was a special. NomNomNom. Wow! First, everyone else's food came our before mine and everyone was already munching on fries and exclaiming how good they were, now I finally had a chance to try them myself. BEST FRIES. EVER! But fries don't get you a 5 star review, they do show you care though. The sammich, FANTASTIC! The sausage was very flavorful and fresh tasting, fresh mozzarella melted to perfection flowed into the sauce with just the right amount of basil. And the bun was the perfect, artesian, yet soft and chewy. It wasn't at all soggy from the sauce but not so toasted to chew up the inside of your mouth. Came here for dinner tonight and had a pretty good experience. Made a reservation for two that was honored as soon as we showed up. For an appetizer, we got the spinach and artichoke dip-- best I've ever had (although I think I've probably only had Applebee's version before)! The main meals took a bit to come out, but we didn't mind since we're on vacation. My partner had the beef burger and I had the veggie pizza-- both delicious options. All of the food we saw delivered to other tables looked great too. Then after dinner came the waiting. I think we were forgotten about and sat for about 25 minutes after we finished eating before being asked about boxes and dessert. For dessert, we had blueberry pie and ice cream, as well as a Bailey's Irish Coffee for me (my favorite part). Overall, we were disappointed with the wait times during the meal, but the food was good and the atmosphere of the place is very cool! Went here on 11/11/2022 with my family because we were up in those parts for a wedding over the weekend. Friday night we needed dinner. It was either the old mill, or Chappies. I looked up their food and noticed that they had a hamburger, which was originally what i wanted. We traveled by car because there were no sidewalks from the hotel. There is parking next to the restaurant. We got out, walked in and got sat right away. We also got there just as they opened which was at 5:00PM. Cute little rustic restaurant. Our server helped us right away, and served us waters, and my dad got a beer. For dinner, i ordered the chicken pot pie special because it sounded amazing. My dad got a burger, and my mom got the fried chicken sliders. 2 more people joined us, and were able to sit accross from each other. They both ordered a burger as well. although they forgot to add pickles and have no onions! it's okay tho. We enjoyed all of our food. i especially enjoyed the chicken pot pie special, which was creamy with soft potatoes, and carrots. very much enjoyed it. Last year we enjoyed Chappies. The food was good but being so short staffed they were suffering in the service department. We are there one night while at the Roxbury but after the disappointment of sadly slow service we did takeout another night with a better experience. I hope they can fix their woes. Not many choices and in a Monday there is basically nothing open due To the staffing shortage. read more

What a great way to end a tiring day filled with skiing. I was dreaming of a nice juicy burger on the ski lift, and that's what I got. There's no cutting corners here regarding the food. Everything is hand dipped, simmered to perfection, refined correctly, every vegetable is even cut the same way. The creamy soups actually have no cream. This culinary wizard purées to the point where you would think there were 5 cans of cream. But nope; it's just healthy yumminess in a bowl! We come all the way from nyc to ski and never miss a meal at Chappie's! If it's not winter at Chappie's then we dine with private chef Anthony Falco right at home in windam! We're staying at the Roxbury at Stratton Falls (always love it!) and enjoyed having a quiet dinner in our amazing cottage - mixed greens salad with grilled chicken and a light vinaigrette and a pesto chicken panini with fries - all tasty, fresh and promptly delivered right to our cottage. They try really hard to do everything right while being friendly and polite and we appreciate them. Bizarre experience tonight. Walked in hoping to be seated and waited patiently for a server to speak to, as is common to do when you enter a restaurant. I was ignored by all 3 waitresses - who clearly saw me - and after waiting patiently a couple walk in, walk past me and then are seated. I left, disappointed, still with nobody speaking to me. Cannot recommend - and so strange? What type of restaurant ignores someone waiting patiently and seats others who walk in after - without even a greeting? From out of town, but was not pleased. The food was OK, needs more flavor. Pesto chicken sandwich needs more pesto and the truffle fries need more truffle. Can barely taste either. The spinach dip however was one of the best I've ever had!!!! The main reason for my low stars is the service. Our waitress could careless about her job and it shows. It was disheartening to see the other waitresses being friendly and attentive to their tables. Our waitress didn't read us the specials and I overheard them and something I would have gotten. I asked for a modification in my meal and she disregarded it and she barely smiled. I asked if they had a specific liquor behind the bar with their wide variety and she said "no" rather then "let me check." Good food, HORRENDOUS staff. It seems like every time we come here, the staff gets significantly worse. Our most recent waitress has to be the absolute worst "server" I've ever encountered. We watched her walk around the busy restaurant aimlessly several times, first while our drinks were sitting on the counter waiting to be brought to our table. There were 6 of us, and she brought them one by one until another server grabbed a tray and brought us the rest. Then we watched her again stand around doing nothing for several minutes; the bartender eventually came over to take our order. We ordered 3 appetizers and our entrees. We waited 25 minutes until our ice cold appetizers arrived. The waitress stood there holding a pizza asking who ordered it... as if one person at the table was going to consume the entire pizza. Has this girl ever dined out before? IMMEDIATELY after the appetizers were placed down, our entrees arrived. The mindless waitress stood there holding an entree while clearly seeing our tables were full with appetizers. She had absolutely no idea what she was doing. We had to ask them to hold them in the kitchen until we were done as there was nowhere to put the entrees. In the next 15 minutes, the waitress never came back to see that we had finished the appetizers. We had to ask her to bring out our entrees, which she did without bothering to clear the appetizers or our plates first, so again, there was no room to put the entrees on our table. After bringing out two entrees, she disappeared and was never to be seen again. I hope she left to find another job as waiting tables is certainly not for her. Like I said, the food is good but with service as frustrating as this I can't say we'll be coming back again. The restaurant needs to invest in some serious training of their staff! After seeing people seated after us get their orders we asked a nearby waiter about our order. Super cute place in the picturesque village of Roxbury. Has both indoor and outdoor seating. If the weather is fine, sit out on the front bistro tables. They have a nice, focused menu that leverages local ingredients. Nice wine and beer list. Reasonable prices. The Steak Frites are fab, served on a wooden cutting board. Servers and staff are friendly and working hard to please. Their take out appears to be popular too (especially their pizza). read more

The owners should be present at these restaurants to make sure things run smoothly and efficiently. The food was OK but the experience was horrible at both restaurants.
