My husband and I stayed at Scribners so we checked out Prospect the first night of our stay! We had a pleasant rainy evening with mountain views, low lighting dim lamps and candles at Prospect. We sat in a corner booth and the ambiance was amazing. Our favorite dish was our starter, sourdough and mango burrata with prosciutto chips. The hamburger was yummy, we asked for it medium but it was likely closer to medium rare. The salmon (market fish) was good but only came with one single asparagus. It was a beautiful dish- I wish the flavor matched the presentation, I likely wouldn't order it again. The smoke and honey cocktail came out from the bartender with a box that was opened in front of us and released smoke, it smelled and was delicious- and I normally don't like bourbon! We had the vanilla ice cream with olive oil and salt flakes. The ice cream was creamy and yummy, I think it was heavy on the olive oil. The combination was new to us and was yummy, but feel as though it was drowning in olive oil. I'm not sure I will find myself in the area again, but I would recommend Prospect to anyone in the area wanting an upscale dinner with interesting and new flavor combinations with a romantic mountain vibe! read more

I am adding one update- we went to the bar this afternoon (day after original review) for a beverage and Roberto is amazing, great service, great drink and great conversation. I really want to love this place but I left feeling so underwhelmed. The vibe is cool, decor nice, staff great My husband and I came for our anniversary. We always do a place in the Catskills. This time we are staying at Scribner's, (separate review) but AMAZING. We made reservations for 7 pm on our actual anniversary, we're seated quickly, ordered drinks, they acknowledged our anniversary which was cool. Drinks were good, we wanted to order apps and see where things went, The waitress informed us the chef "doesn't let us do that, you have to place your entire order at once. With all due respect, I'm in the industry, you were slow and now lost out on a lot . We were unsure what we were gonna do so we dialed it back more than we would have since you needed our entire order at once. Apps come- salad is amazing, the bread service was good. The broccoli/hummus was also good. The trout was ok, which it was a little creamier and more spreadable. Flavor was good, just texture. The entrees , I'm not sure what happened, this is where it went downhill and fast. there was a long space between apps and entrees, like we could have chose and ordered by the time they were delivered My pasta was ICE COLD, not warm, like I made this an hour ago and it just sat kind of under a heat lamp . The chicken was just ok, very hot, but bland. Played nicely but no flavor We really wanted dessert which if it's not gelato, you aren't getting it. So disappointed. There was no other option. That being said, server apologized about pasta , she also brought us out a caramel gelato for our anniversary. read more

I think 3.5 average rating is accurate for this restaurant. We stayed at Scribner's so tried Prospect for dinner out of convenience. I was a bit apprehensive given the mixed reviews but we were tired after a full day and canceled our reservation elsewhere to stay right at the hotel. The restaurant is beautiful with plenty of natural light. The menu itself felt very limited and it seems like they're trying to do too much with not enough (maybe trying to cut costs). For dinner, I had the half roasted chicken and my husband had the mushroom rigatoni. The pasta was average but lacked salt or any seasoning. My chicken was beautifully presented and very interesting/creative as far as flavors go, but overly salty so a bit difficult to finish. We tried breakfast the next morning, again out of convenience. It was outrageously priced for what we received. We both had the chicken sausage breakfast sandwich. I really wish we had just driven to a nearby cafe or breakfast spot. The pool side food was even crazier. The guacamole and chips wasn't bad- small portion of average guac but the chips were fresh and clearly made in house. The nachos were really sad and disappointing- $18 for chips, processed queso, bacon bits, pickled red onions, and jalapenos. I get that convenience is absolutely factored into the cost, but the between the lack of quality and portion size, we felt ripped off. The overall inconsistency in food quality and preparation really just threw us off. Why waste really great, homemade chips on subpar toppings? The service was polite, but inexperienced/inconsistent. We might consider staying at Scribner's again but would not dine at Prospect. No complaints about the bar. Extensive wine selection and decent cocktail menu. Throughout our stay, we ordered a bottle of wine, some wine/bubbly by the glass, and tried a few cocktails- all around solid. But there are too many great restaurants and food options in the area to come back or recommend Prospect. read more

Stayed at Scribner's so naturally we had to check out the restaurant. Everything on the menu sounded amazing and many of the options were gluten free. There are a bunch of fancy cocktails too and even mocktails. We ordered the beet salad with creamy goat cheese. My husband ordered the tile fish and I ordered the butternut squash risotto, which was out of this world. I was so full I had to force myself to stop eating it it was that good. Service was great, there was a 21 person party there but our food came out relatively quickly. All wait staff were friendly! Definitely a place to stop by even if for just a fun cocktail. read more

Food: 5/5 We stayed at Scribner's so ended up having breakfast and dinner at Prospect. For breakfast we had Prospect Plate ($19), Breakfast Sandwich ($16) and sides of avocado and eggs ($7 each). For dinner we ordered Trout Rillette ($19), Striped Bass ($37), and Prospect Burger ($25). Every bite was perfect. For a restaurant in the Catskills, I had no idea how the food would be and it turned out to be a major highlight of the trip. Service: 5/5 Zero complaints Ambiance: 5/5 The restaurant is very quiet and relaxing. The interior fits perfectly in the Catskills with all wood and a few fireplaces and floor to ceiling windows views of the mountains. read more

I really thought I was going to like this place.....unfortunately, I did not. We ordered the pancakes, the poblano skillet and a side of chicken sausage. Nothing crazy. The pancakes came out cold. Our waitress never came back so we had to ask another waiter to help us return them. When the new pancakes came, they were just barely warm. Clearly they were all premade and just sitting under a heat lamp until ready to serve. Just don't put pancakes on the menu then. I liked my dish but it was really the service that was terrible. We wanted to order another drink and she never came back. We had to flag her down to order another one. It was just crazy because it was almost like we were bothering her. Mind you we sat when no one was there and they didn't get "busy" until 45 mins after we had arrived. It was not busy...The view was the best part. read more

The attention to detail was amazing. Came here for New Year's Eve, and had breakfast here everyday during my stay at the lodge. First off amazing job with the Space theme for New Year's Eve dinner. The foot prints on the Moon Landing dessert did not go unnoticed. Anyway, food and service were amazing every time I was here. Pro-Tip: Add Avocado to your breakfast items. read more

The hostesses on Friday night is amazing she pays attention to every detail in great detail.

I feel like this place is underrated based on these Yelp reviews. If you're looking for an upscale dinner experience in this area, this was by far the best place we ate at during our stay at Hunter. We got the winter salad, duck entree, and sea bass market fish special which were all really delicious, and plated SO beautifully. The cocktails were very tasty with just the right amount of sweetness. And our dessert was one of the most unique things we've ever seen, matcha mouse coated in a chocolate shell over a horchata slush with puffed rice on top. My husband was raving about it, and he barely likes any dessert. Even my kids were happy, as they had a solid kids menu and our waitress tipped us off to s'mores making happening upstairs on the back deck afterwards. I was impressed overall and will be back if ever in the area again, and maybe even stay at the lodge next time. read more

10/10 spot. The views of the mountains were fantastic. The outside area does get a little a buggy towards sundown but who cares when you're surrounded by all this nature. The inside of the restaurant is also very gorgeous. We started off with drinks. My boyfriend got an old fashioned and I got a mocktail called "Paradise is Burning." It was quite possibly THE BEST non-alcoholic beverage I've ever had in my life. The fish tacos were absolutely DELICIOUS. They were so juicy. The burgers were also pretty fire. The service was great. Our hostess and waitress were all very attentive and friendly. I'm so happy I found this place. You definitely need to come here if you're coming to the Catskills. I'll be visiting again in the future. read more

Writing separate reviews for breakfast and dinner, because they were that different!! Dinner was phenomenal. Fresh, creative, innovative, delicious. One of the best salads I've ever had in my life!! It was so well balanced and delicious, and had bits of crispy kale mixed in which I have never seen before, and provided a surprising and delightful texture. Even the bread and butter had unique mixtures of butter served with it. We were so excited to go back for breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was a bummer! Ordered the breakfast sandwich which came with 1 shriveled piece of bacon. Based on the incredible dinner the night before, I would have expected some greens, an interesting sauce, and some artisanal bacon and/or local cheese. Not sure if this is just the weekday breakfast, but it felt very "hotel" breakfast. As a guest in the hotel I was so excited to have another dining experience at prospect. I think we will likely just stick to dinner. Service was friendly but very understaffed, so we were left waiting for a bit. read more

Best meal in hunter. Fresh homemade pasta. Good service, great ambiance, seasonal menu. In scribners lodge if you're just here to dine I recommend staying here some time too. Good drinks, views, and great food! This was a great first night at hunter mountain. I'm pretty sure the entire group wished we were staying at the hotel after this meal. I enjoyed the one rose they had & wish we could have stayed for s'mores in the front (too bad we were too full). read more

Wow wow wow . Usually when I go skiing I get excited about the snow and prepare my body to feast on bad chicken tender and stale resort fries. Scribner's lodge's restaurant prospect kept me full and fulfilled. Dinner was quite the alpine experience. We tried milk punch for the first time- a must, it was a dangerously delicious drink. Venison tartare is a must-- if you have never tried venison this will probably be the best venison you'll ever eat in your life. As someone who doesn't mess with gamey meats, this venison did not play any games! Brassicas with fried garlic chips- so tart, so rich and we'll balanced! A great leftover. NY strip- well cooked, huge portion and tender! Chicken- deliciously moist with crispy skin and the wild mushrooms were a great palate addition. I didn't get dessert because we were too stuffed but I'm sure I would've been blown away. Breakfast was on another level. Cornbread pancakes will have you feelin some type of way. Usually I enjoy a breakfast platter with 1/2 a pancake, but with these I had to stop myself after 2 to save some for my boyfriend. This pancake would break TikTok if the chef put it on. They are so soft/ light/ with the gritty texture of corn and a little bit sweet. I didn't even need the syrup! The whipped cream was balls to the walls insanely go with fresh vanilla beans!!!! Breakfast platter, all good quality ingredients. Eat this and you will be ready to hit the slopes until apres ski time. read more

My fiancée and I had a wonderful dinner here during our trip to the Catskills. I made the reservation early in advance on Resy, and I was glad I did because the time slots fill up fast! The waitress asked us if we were celebrating anything, and we shared that we had recently gotten engaged. She gave us champagne and a cheese platter on the house to celebrate! We also got the sourdough bread. As for entrees , my fiancé got the steak and I got the swordfish special (pictured). Both were delicious, came out quickly and hot. We also opted for dessert and shared the spice cake. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I would love to come back here one day! read more

If you're in Hunter, NY then you need to stop at Prospect for a bite to eat. It doesn't matter if it's breakfast, lunch, dinner or even just drinks, but you'd be missing out if you didn't come. This place is attached to Scribner's Lodge, a short drive from Hunter Mountain. So close, that you can see the mountain if you're on the outdoor patio! There is a large parking lot in the back which is available for lodge and restaurant guests. You do not need reservations, but I highly recommend that you do, especially during the busy ski season. You can make them easily online. The service is quick and the staff is super attentive. Prospect is pricy, but once you taste the food, you'll know why. It's 100% worth it. I have had their breakfast and dinner, everything is outstanding. The portions seem small, but I have never left the restaurant hungry. The drinks are very unique and well-thought out. The bartender, Roberto, was so knowledgeable and precise. I really enjoyed the detail he put into each drink. You don't see that often. Something to note- they charge a 20% gratuity fee on every bill. I will likely come back here each time I visit Hunter because the food and views are that good. read more

If you're a larger group, don't look into this spot. I called for a 8 top and they said they don't have anything. I said even if I do a walk in and they mentioned they won't have anything at all for my party. please explain how does that work for larger groups who decide to walk in and you have 2 empty tables, you can combine them to make it for a larger group. Great location and views. Not great food / service. We came by for brunch when up in the area for the weekend. Ordered the pancakes and the breakfast plate. My pancakes were a bit disappointing, just 2 plain pancakes and a lump of butter. For the price would have expected some fruit or trimmings. They also had a weird taste as if made with some strange kind of mix. My wife ordered the breakfast plate, and chose scrambled eggs. When it arrived it was clearly an omelette, so she politely waited for the server to come back and mentioned she had ordered scrambled eggs. He said oh it's the same thing, basically they just chop it around it's bit more, so if she wants he can have them chop it up a bit. It was sort of funny but painful, if you only have like 8 things on your menu and you can't do scrambled eggs and don't understand how that is different to an omelette then maybe the food needs a revamp. On other topics, the place is very nice, great views of Hunter, and the hotel part seems like it has nice facilities. read more

My family and I had a great experience at Prospect. I'd read some consistent and concerning reviews about service in advance, took a deep breath, and warned my dinner guests before heading out. All concerns were squashed repeatedly throughout our dinner. We were greeted warmly and our server went above and beyond the entire time. Our meals were not only excellent but visually appealing. My dish was so pretty I just wanted to admire it for a minute. It's apparent that great care is taken in the quality of the experience at Prospect. It was a much more casual experience than I expected but nonetheless excellent. Our post dinner walk on the grounds was the perfect way to end such a gratifying experience. Deserves less than one star. Came here for New Year's Eve. We waited four hours to eat. One of the most expensive, unsatisfying dinners we've experienced. Our dinner was at 7:30 pm and we didn't get our starter until 9:30, which was all of three pieces of shrimp cocktail. We understand it was busy on NYE but when we asked for bread to get something in our stomachs, we were told they could keep us busy with drinks and water... When our entrees came at 10:30, and some of the food was missing, we were told they were out and we weren't offered a replacement. The servers didn't understand where we were at with the courses. We were offered a (disgusting, bitter tasting) side salad at least five times. All the other tables around us were just as confused and turning away extra side salads all night. Shocked we couldn't at least get a few drinks off of our tab. The worst part is no one even apologized or acknowledged how disorganized and long the wait was to eat. Terribly disappointed we waisted most of our New Years Eve here and over $500 for two people. Avoid at all costs. read more

Terrific food, solicitous service, Catskillian atmosphere, and staff are sons and daughters of area butchers and distillers! We are staying here for our anniversary. The hotel and restaurant staff kindly remembered and acknowledged this throughout our stay. It's also dog friendly. They will take good care of your pup. Going back to Prospect now ... the first night of our stay we shared the gem lettuces salad, ordered the trout and risotto con funghi. Just ridiculously good. The cocktails and wines were delicious and varied. Go! Now! read more

Food was great. Service was ok. Not sure if short staff or I do not look hip or blond... my service was slow and not friendly... not sure if I didn't dress fancy enough or have big jewelry on me... my service was slow and with attitudes... This attitude let me down as I heard lots of good things about The Scribner Lodge and The Prospect. But when I was treated differently... that turned me off. I will not return again... I can't in good faith give this restaurant more than 3 stars. We stayed at the hotel for a long weekend and we were looking forward to coming here for dinner each night. First and foremost, $5 for bread and butter is a little absurd. For the price of an entree, I believe this should be included as it would at any nice restaurant in NYC. Secondly, I was disappointed that there was only 1 vegan entree option aside from the shishito pepper app on the menu. As I have a diary allergy, I couldn't even try any of the pastas without cheese because that wasn't possible as an option ether. While my dish (Autumn Squash Bowl) was good, it did not warrant the over $30 price tag. Even if I did want to eat here again, who wants to eat the same dish twice? read more

I have no idea why this wasn't rated at least above 4 stars. I think it was a 5/5. My party attempted to go to other restaurants on a busy ski weekend and ended up at Prospect (thank goodness). Our bartender and server, Magnus, was absolutely amazing and truly made the entire experience!! Aside from great drinks, he is an excellent conversationalist and the reason to choose sitting at the bar over a table. The bread and butter appetizer was shockingly good, followed by amazing entrees for all, and excellent lemon tart. This is an absolute treat and my party will be returning. read more

I'm in love. We came here for dinner and drinks during NYE weekend and had both an incredible meal & a proper celebration! The ribeye to share ($125) was exactly what we wanted. It comes with sides (salad, mac and cheese, and fries) and everything was soooo good. I personally really liked the fries. We also got the sourdough bread ($4) and mushroom soup, and both were amazing. The bread is served warm, and it went really well together with the soup. The lounge/library area is cozy and the perfect place for after dinner drinks and conversation. They have a pool table too! On NYE, they turned the whole restaurant into a Gatsby-like hotel. They had a champagne tree, NYE hats and gear, photobooth, balloons EVERYWHERE, a DJ.... it was easily one of the best NYE parties I've ever been to. Can't wait to be back again soon! read more

The location and view are fantastic. The ambience is pretty good. Nice bar friendly servers. I had a local Pilsner on draft - was great. The food, however, was not great. I got a mushroom frittata - which is partially my fault for ordering a frittata - but it was badly over cooked and under seasoned. My brother got a tuna sandwich and the bread was so thick and crusty it was basically impossible to eat. The tuna salad itself was not particularly flavorful. The highlight was the truffle fries. I'm giving four stars based on an awesome spot and view and I think if I ordered the burger and fries I would've enjoyed it just fine. read more

I have been wanting to stay at Scribner's for a while now - but it's just too expensive for us. Nonetheless, we booked a trip upstate and stayed in a Getaway House (amazing and affordable). However, as a way to meet in the middle, my boyfriend and I decided to have Valentine's Day dinner at Prospect (a short drive from our Getaway House). I booked reservations way in advance, just in case. I don't think I really needed them as the restaurant was not crowded. I do think the menu for dinner is rather small and limiting. There was only a handful of things I wanted to try. We did have the cheese plate to start and that was amazing. The cheeses were great, as well as the accoutrements (they give you an actual honeycomb on the side - so delicious). My boyfriend and I each had a pasta - he had a special (beef ravioli) and I had the Cacio e Pepe. We both agreed the entrees were good. We weren't blown away but felt satisfied. I wanted to try some of their interesting ice cream flavors (hemp flower, rose water) but was told they couldn't serve them to me unless I ordered the full dessert they accompanied (which I totally understand). I wound up having a scoop of their caramelized chocolate sorbet just for a little sweet treat. The scoop was slightly bigger than a quarter...and they charged me $5 for it. That was really the only thing that left a bad taste in my mouth (the price, not the actual sorbet - that was good). They did serve a few complimentary "petit fours" in honor of Valentine's Day - a tiny macaron, a rose water cookie and an olive oil chocolate truffle. Ultimately, Prospect met my expectations as an upscale restaurant with expensive prices and interesting food selections. The ambiance was nice (dim lights, beautiful decor) and service was also very good. I would come back to Prospect again and hopefully I can stay in the actual hotel one of these days :) read more

They are also connected to this beautiful Scribner's lodge that is pet friendly. -------------------------------------------------- We actually went back here for lunch to try the burger which was enjoyable that comes with the amazing crispy fries and pickle. The fries was addicting and we cannot stop eating it! The beignets with whipped peanut butter was heavenly. Bf loved it so much he was considering to take some home. Lol! The ambiance and service was great! We went for our anniversary celebration on a Sunday night so we were practically the only people dining in the restaurant. We came here twice because we were staying in Scribner's. As far as the area goes, it's the best food for miles, by far. It's probably not even worth trying anything else. The brunch menu is absolutely perfect, and the dinner menu is very solid. For dinner we had the seabass (very good) and the cacio e pepe (which was kinda weird and had a thicker texture than the classic). The squash toast was great, but the Kale salad was tough and needed to be massaged. Breakfast was fantastic. Eggs Benedict was textbook. The other elements of brunch were great, and their smoked salmon and avocado was very fresh. Pancakes were delicious, light and fluffy. I recommend this place, but beware the price tags can get pretty high. Pricing kinda makes sense as they have an affluent crowd, but just be prepared it's not necessarily the best value in the area. read more

There's also a very rustic side room you can have a drink in while waiting for a table. Menu seems to change every two months so look online for the most recent. Had a delicious kale salad, chicory salad and parsnip soup. Service was good. There weren't any vegetarians/vegan options for entrees so we stuck with small plates. We went there for a special dinner for my wife's birthday. They had a special guest chef. There was a DJ playing loud music that would not allow normal conversation so we asked for a quieter place to sit. We were directed upstairs to a "library"and told we would be served there. We were a party of 3. Twenty minutes later our food arrived in a shopping bag with no plates and plastic "utensils". I went down to complain to the bartender who took our order but he told me I had to talk to his boss who was the guy who "delivered" the food. Two of the dinners came in one cardboard box.We were eventually provided plates and metal utensils. On the plus side my wife said the fish was great. My chicken was acceptable. The "service" would have been an embarrassment to Mc Donalds. read more
