When I moved to Denver 5 years ago, I came here often. The food was good and the service was fine. We went last night and have never had a worse experience. No one greets you and there is no sign to seat yourself. Not a big deal- we seated ourself on the patio, (it was 50 degrees out and they had no heaters on.) No one brought us menus or came to take our order, despite helping tables around us and seeing us. So I went inside to try to order an app and a drink. They sent me back out and told me our server would be out. Several minutes later, she came out looking pissed, dropped our menus and when I tried to order a drink, she said snapped at me and said, "Give me a minute!" and walked away. The table next to us looked at us and said, "Leave now. It doesn't get better. We actually wanted more food but we can't get her to serve us so we got our check and are leaving." We went to The Preservery where we were greeted, seated, served amazing food, and best of all, not snapped at and ignored. They said they've had others in with similar complaints about Walnut Room. To the management there: get rid of the blonde girl. She is costing you money and customers, coming from someone who has bartended and served at 6 different restaurants, I can confirm she is in no way meant to be in the service industry. I've gone here a couple time for Big Booty yoga on Sunday which is AMAZING, but the service leaves a bit to be desired. The first time we sat on the patio, and we had a waitress who I believe was new, and acted annoyed the entire time she was serving us. I went today for the second time and sat at the bar (Sunday 10/1, around 11:45-1), and what I witnessed was quite astounding. I didn't have to wait that long for my free drink to be honored (draft beer under $6 or a mimosa, with my admission to yoga) but the interaction between the wait staff left a lot to be desired. The same waitress (short dark hair, dark lipstick) had such a bad attitude it was distracting, she complained that the printer was down, that she had to stay for the Broncos game, that she was bored and wanted to go paint her nails, and that "We need THREE more mimosas (in a snotty voice)" I'm sorry, it's SUNDAY. Of course you have to stay for the Broncos game, and you have to serve mimosas! Then I sat there and watched Allison, the bartender pour the last of the mimosa pitcher into a soda cup and add ice, and pour some for the cranky waitress and they proceeded to drink on the clock, in front of people who were sitting at the bar. She and I made eye contact right after, and I could not believe they were just chatting about drinking at work, as customers were watching. I also observed "cranky waitress" TRY SOMEONE'S BEER by dipping a straw into it and using it as a dropper into her mouth. I was shocked. Aside from those odd interactions the beer was good, and the food was ok although I found their sandwiches/lunch menu to be a little overpriced for what it is (almost $20 for a turkey wrap that was doused in ranch, and one draft beer!) I also was surprised to see they didn't have a brunch menu at prime time on a Sunday! I will continue to come for Yoga, but I wouldn't seek this place out just for food, or a place to watch a game. Their wait staff could use some SERIOUS training in customer service, and professionalism. read more

My husband and I tried the mile high pizza and OMG totally delicious. Like really delicious. Thin crust cut in squares which is my favorite! I wouldn't say it's super kid friendly and not because they weren't niice to our kids it's just more of a bar which was fine we were told to try their pizza because it was delicious and that was absolutely true! We didn't mind people in there drinking but I would choose my time wisely if you don't like your kids around drinking. Convenient location being around the corner from the construction site I'm working at. I didn't see they had lunch specials and wasn't told about them but I overheard another man ordering one. It's still pretty affordable though. I had a western slope wrap on basil pesto bread and chips on the side. The wrap was nice, tasted very much like a Cesar dressing and had I of not ordered a basil pesto tortilla I wouldn't have known what it was. Chips were too salty. Service was ok. read more

It's difficult to review such a polarized experience. I'll go into detail, but ZERO stars for our first waiter and a 3 stars for the remainder of our experience. Our first waiter gave us the absolute worst experience I had ever seen or heard of at a restaurant. I've had bad waiters, or even high waiters, and I would at least be able to get food or a drink. Our waiter left our table with no warning halfway through taking drink orders. When he came back, he had completely forgotten he had even met us. We could tell something was off because another table was receiving the same treatment. I'm surprised to say that we were even verbally insulted by the guy when he called one person at our table an old man for pointing at the menu. Looking past the confusion and disgust of our first impression, we grabbed another waiter and asked if they could serve us; which they did with the utmost professionalism and care. He was very apologetic and make sure we enjoyed the most of the remainder of our experience. We were also sympathetic to him since he had just inherited 3-4 tables during a Saturday night rush. The Marshall Stack was the favorite at the table and I thought that had a solid list of beers. I'd give it a 3 or 4 stars for the food and later half of service, but unfortunately I can't ignore what had happened after we first sat down. read more

WOW. Zero Stars. Please do not give this owner your money if you support live music our the arts. Totally unprofessional demeanor. My band booked a full lineup of music and was supposed to perform at this venue on a Saturday night and this guy (who we found out was the owner) comes storming out of the kitchen swearing at my bandmate for putting our merch in a spot the sound engineer ok'd. We're a touring band, and rely heavily on merch sales and we calmly explained that we do much better on sales when our merchandise is visable and not stuffed in the back corner. He refused to give us any reason why we couldn't keep it in our spot, other than angrily repeating that he didn't want it there (also the spot he wanted was definitely limiting access to a fire exit). After he left, we needed to set up our gear, and we were planning on moving the merch afterwards. Apparently, we took too long, as soon after he came out swearing again and told us to pack up and leave entirely. My bandmate told him we had a written agreement of $300 payable to the show, and that we would leave upon payment, to which he laughed in her face and said he would not pay. We then quickly moved the merch to the spot he wanted, but he again came out swearing and told us if we didn't leave, he'd call the cops. After the first band finished playing and we refused to leave he shut down the whole show in front of 30 or so paying, drinking concertgoers. His whole demeanor was almost comical how over the top and aggressive he was towards the artists. I'm truly sorry to the staff because they were all total sweethearts, and I wish them all luck in their future once this place shuts down/finds new management. I'm also sorry to the taxpayers of Denver if the police had to waste any time on this turd if he actually called them. Some people aren't cut out for business or customer service, this guy is definitely one who isn't. Kicking out 30 paying customers because one band dared to ask for special and reasonable consideration, then didn't move fast enough for him should sum up his business sense. Ladies: You know what I'm talking about. You go out to hear some local music, have a few beers, and soon enough you're making that dreaded walk down a dark hallway, only to find yourself in a grimy bathroom, where you try to hover over the toilet with impaired balance without wanting to touch the sides of the stalls. It doesn't have to be this way! Next time, go to The Walnut Room, where the bathrooms are actually truly nice and clean. Plus, they've got REAL food: pizza on super thin crust (you should totally try the Walnut Special, it sounds a bit odd but it works), salads and sandwiches. The beer is cold, too: Guiness, Harp, Fat Tire, etc. The music venue side has excellent sound and is extremely intimate. And don't worry, you can get drinks on that side of the door, too. Staff is usually quite attentive, but they are all apparently good friends, so you might have to wait for them to finish their chit chat before you can order your beer. There used to be a total jerk of a doorman, too, but the one I've seen there lately is a perfect gentleman. Other drawbacks: -Music on bar only side is usually sucky and WAY TOO LOUD. I sound old, I suppose, but it really is ridiculous to have to yell to the person on the next bar stool if you're competing with a juke box and not a live musician. -Teeny tiny, makes it hard to find a corner in which to devour your pizza, which you eat off of squares of parchment paper. (However, they have a patio in warmer weather, which more than doubles the seating area, I think.) -Location (not the swankiest part of town, you have to admit) and parking. Finally, the crowd is not great for people watching, because they tend to be really "normal" 30 somethings, or older. This could be a pro or a con, depending on your perspective or mood. read more

The original Walnut room is leaps and bounds better than their pizza place on Broadway. Incredibly friendly service, a better vibe, and better pizza. We stopped in here shortly after moving to the neighborhood with a Living Social deal in tow for $20. It was still happy hour and we were able to get in an order of pesto cheese bread and beers before it ended (half off). I went for margarita pizza....I've had it at the Broadway location and was not a huge fan. This one was much better though, with crispier crust, less sauce, and tons of basil and garlic. They entered in the wrong pizza for the boyfriend so not only did he get the wrong pizza, he also got the right one! The final order: 3 pizzas 1 side salad 1 order of pesto cheese bread 3 beers PRE-COUPON: $24 And everyone we encountered was consistently friendly! Great spot for happy hour, and not as bad of a place for pizza as I thought, given previous experiences at the Broadway spot. Can't wait for patio time here. read more

This used to be our go-to pizza joint prior to COVID. The Spicy Hirsch was BOMB! Since COVID, they have gotten chintzy with their pizzas in general. The crust is now nearly paper thin, and they've gotten cheap with the toppings and sauce. This is a cool little spot. Little is definitely the operative word, though. This is definitely not the place to bring several friends. I think max capacity at any table was 4. Before I got there, my friends had a difficult time flagging down a server. They waited at their table for 10minutes before they got service. That's pretty lame for a place this small. There is plenty of free parking in their lot and on the street. Their happy hour is pretty awesome. My Goldschlagger shot & 3 beers were only $10. Good deal. This place is a bit out of the way. If I find myself in the neighborhood, I'll probably find myself at Cassleman's (it's just got more room and is more comfortable), but I wouldn't mind dropping in at The Walnut Room again, sometime. read more

I love the pizza at walnut room. Great thin cracker crust pizza. The mile high is the way to go, pretty much every topping including jalapeños and pineapple. What I dislike about the walnut room is when you are getting charged $7.50 for a mixed drink it would be nice if you could taste a little booze in that drink.. If I could give negative stars, I would. We ordered Walnut Room pizza while enjoying some ciders at Stem (a pizza truck was supposed to be there but left early, so we went with delivery). It was a Tuesday night around 8pm. We were appalled by the prices, but were hungry and already had our mind set on pizza. We ordered one pizza and were quoted 15-20 minutes for delivery. After 30 minutes, we called and they said it was "almost ready." After 45 minutes, we called again and they said it was "on the way". After an hour, the wonderfully pleasant lady at Stem called for us to ask what the hell was going on. Almost 1.5 hours later, a sad looking pizza was delivered. It was a cold pie where the grease had already cooled and reintegrated into the cheese (you know exactly what I mean...). Minimal toppings on a soggy, grease-absorbed crust. Gross. $18 a pie? You can't be serious. If the pizza is going to be an hour, say so. If it's not "on the way," don't lie to me. And if you decide, at some point when it's convenient for you, to deliver it, please ensure that has not been sitting on a counter for more than an hour. That kind of product is just embarrassing. Poor service, high prices, and bad pizza. We will definitely be looking to other places for delivery in the future. read more

I've always been a fan of walnut room since i work close by and often order pick up for lunch. Today I ordered a chicken caesar salad, paying extra for the inclusion of chicken in the traditional caesar. Picked up my order, arrived to work, and realized my salad didn't have any chicken. Not a major issue, but a bit disappointing, especially since I paid an extra $2.50 for it. I also ordered a single slice of pizza with one topping, and that was delicious. I had some time to kill the other day before attending the May Denver FIVE(TM) Dinner at Novo Roasters. Since the Yelp map showed The Walnut Room to be less than two blocks distant, we popped in for a quick drink. It was Happy Hour and the prices were decent. We had a couple nice cold beers for less than $5. The HH here runs from 4pm to 7pm Mon-Fri and from 2pm to 5pm Sat-Sun. We did not eat, since we were about to go to Dinner. The Walnut Room has deals on the starters during HH, but the selection is rather limited. You can choose from garlic bread, cheese bread, chicken bites, or chicken wings. So, I hope you like carbs and/or chicken. Service was good. I would be willing to come back some time just to try the pizza. Update: the pizza rocks. The beer selection is excellent. read more

I actually went here to hear an old friend's band, but caught up with another friend before the show for a drink and some eats. Now the pizza smelled wonderful, but the other person in my party wasn't feeling pizza so I went with wings and loved them! Very hot (right out of the fryer) and a good spice without burning your tongue. Plus the side carrots and celery seemed actually fresh! No droop here. As for the band space, it was cozy. I am not sure how many tables they have in there (maybe a dozen) plus stools along the side and a bar of its own back there. It is great because you can really see and hear the artists and if it was like the night we went they sat in the audience and listened to everyone else on the bill, so you get to meet everyone. Because the Walnut Room isn't trying hard to be hip, they are. A gal pal and I stopped in here around 5 pm on St. Patties weekend. This could have been a recipe for disaster, (the mere beginnings of a party weekend...), but even though the staff had been slammed all day, that didn't stop the bartender from being really attentive, very professional and friendly. We order a 17" Margharetta pie - and it came out hot, crispy with a sauce on the sweet side but not overpowering. Thin crust with slices of fresh tomatoes, shaved basil and light cheese. Yea, we almost downed the entire pie - it was that good. This place has an easy feel to it - the staff seem to want be there; and because of that, it's easy to slow down and chill out despite how busy the place gets. I noticed good deals on Happy Hour Mon-Fri. and a nice patio to enjoy when the weather gets a little better. This could be my new favorite place. read more

Deep within the belly of RiNo, and after a slew of cocktails, I heard a rumble similar to that of the eponymous safari beast. Alas it was not the aforementioned nose-horned creature; it was my stomach, longing for delectable carbs to sop up the swill. Seeing as we were marooned in an area of the metropolis with few options for foodies, we panicked until Beau and I literally stumbled across the welcoming threshold of the Walnut Room. The plethora of enticing pizza possibilities really activated my almonds. After serious deliberation, Beau and I decided to order half chicken BBQ / half Margheritaville™. Suffice to say it was a split for the ages. Every sumptuous morsel, each gooier than the last, sent me on a rocket ship to Cheesy Mars. When our supremely knowledgeable and accommodating server mentioned the extensive list of libations available for *adults only*, we decided on a classic staple of the artisan crowd so endemic to RiNo: the Blue Ribbon Beer by Pabst Brewing Company. As soon as its golden nectar passed my lips, I took one look at Beau and remarked: "that's one small sip for Taryn, one giant gulp for Personkind." The ooey gooey minute hand of pizza pleasure's countdown clock ticked away too quickly and soon we were left staring sadly at our reflections in the empty silver platter. Gone were the pangs of an impending hangover. Gone was the vodka-induced vertigo. However, gone too was that marvelous marinara masterpiece. You would have to be nutty to miss out on this experience. read more

Pizza was great, we ordered Mile High, Florentine and Walnut Special (GF) and enjoyed them all immensely. I would suggest getting the Mile High without pineapple, but beyond that zero complaints on the food. we were glad that the heated patio was comfortable temp even on a cold night to give us the option of getting further away from the music coming from the venue area. Good selection of beers but still happy to also see PBR on tap. We sipped beers as we waited, but...There was some issue with our pizza and it took a long time to come out, but after talking to the waiter he was very accommodating and at our request brought the pizzas boxed ready to go and the check. Without us asking, they had discounted us for the inconvenience and apologized again. This type of good customer service recovery was much appreciated, we know stuff goes wrong but when the staff handles it well then it is never a big deal. We took the pies home and crushed slice after slice over beers in the kitchen. Great night! read more

This restaurant/pub/live music venue was A-OK. 3.5 stars~ I hosted a meet up group of 12 here, and we were seated on the heated patio on a blustery November First Friday next to the blazing fire features. It was a bit drafty, but overall was just fine. We ordered lots of drinks, pizzas, sandwiches, you name it. My cider seemed a little flat, and our Mediterranean pizza was excellent with a super thin crust, just was cold by the time it arrived to our patio table. Our service started off fine, but as this place became PACKED, we saw her less and less, understandably. She did, however, do an awesome job of breaking out the tab for us. The Live Music venue appears to be in the back and is separate from the pub. When we left around 6:45 Friday night, the place was face to face jam packed with standing only- barely any room to EXIT! This venue was perfectly fine for a casual large group meet up/happy hour! and the great art in the area makes this a perfect first stop. read more

Checked out The Walnut Room for some post-event noms with the sweet Carly B. As a lady who goes to see a lot of live music in Denver, I'm so surprised I haven't been here yet! Just a couple blocks down from our event venue, we made the quick walk over (note: there are no sidewalks, so try to park close to avoid any run-ins with cars). After a beer and potato chip centric event, all I really wanted was a big old salad and a glass of water. I ordered a large Italian avocado and walnut salad with chicken, and it was just meh. The chicken, while filling, was extremely dry and felt like it had been sitting on the assembly line for about a day too long. Miss Carly's margherita pizza, however, looked pretty bomb! I can't speak to the cocktails, but from looks of the bar they can make ya most anything you want. There was no music that evening, but it looked like they were hosting a giant guitar class in the back. A pretty good use of space! I've heard great things about this place, and it was probably my mistake to order salad at a pizza joint. The Walnut Room's tag line on their website is "MUSIC. PIZZA. SPIRITS." and I failed to experience any of those wonderful things.
