If I could give a negative star I would! I have been in here several times and have never experienced an interaction with Derik until today. Came to drop off boxes and print labels. I did not have a scale at my office so I have used theirs before, and asked again today. When I went to use the scale he became rude and another lady walked up and told me I needed to move and make way for a paying customer. I was in complete shock along with 2 of my co workers. I said excuse me, and he continued and said "I'm here to make $ and you aren't making me any money." Continuing on with his rant he continued to tell me this is a UPS store and they don't do that here. After advising him I have been in here several times and have never been treated like this before. I would like to add that Ezra has been and again was very nice, professional and accommodating. Once again Derik continued on proceeded to tell me about his surgery and that he can't help me. I was looking for any explanation other than is there anything I can assist you with. I chose to step outside and allow my coworker to continue what needed to be done. Derik decided that he wanted to call the owner and complain that we were wanting to weigh boxes and use their computer to print, WHICH you have to pay for, so in reality I would consider myself a paying customer. After standing outside Derik decided to approach me to apologize. Why he chose to is a mystery. You don't treat customers they way he did and then decide you need to apologize. I did tell him to please step away and I don't want to hear his apology. I simply said "I don't need an apology after the way you treated us, you don't talk To people the way you did. Derik then looked at me and told me I was crazy and what a psycho. Who says that! Beyond embarrassed that someone represents a company like him. read more

The UPS Store - Shipping Centers Near Me - Coronado, California

I have had the opposite experience of some posters so it is time to speak up. I have gotten service both from Derick and another young woman (forget her name) who works on the weekends. At all times the personnel on site have been not only friendly and helpful, but also gave me good advice about best shipping methods for my situation. I have yet to have a bad experience here and I have shipped multiple times in the past few months. We also own a service-oriented small business, so I am picky about what kind of service I get, and this store is just fine. What I HAVE witnessed numerous examples of is the customers being rude to and disregarding the explanations of the counter staff. Let me share just one: the counter woman was explaining to someone shipping a 52" HDTV that the packing she was using was the interior packaging used by the manufacturer but that it was not quite suitable for shipping across country and she should consider a repack to prevent damage. She politely explained that if they repack then the repack is insured against damage complimentary; otherwise, the insurance is $1 for every $100 of value. The woman basically screamed and yelled at her for trying to "rip her off" with extra fees. Ridiculous. What the employee was saying was true and she was trying to offer service. Some people simply cannot be satisfied! And I bet this same woman will scream bloody murder when her TV gets damaged. Go figure. As to those who expect freebies: it's a shipping and packing store. Yes, they charge you for boxes and they charge you for packing supplies and tape and they charge you for helping you pack and seal your containers. That is the BUSINESS they are in. If you don't want to incur these fees, pack your own items then bring them into the store. As for me, I prefer the guarantee and peace of mind of paying a few dollars extra to let the professionals do it. I think that people are mirrors, and you get treated the way you treat them. Perhaps because I always go out of my way to be kind and cheerful with others, I get the same in return. By the way, I have been to the across-the-street competitor mentioned in the other reviews. No appreciable difference in my mind in the service quality. read more

I do a lot of amazon returns and this is just a convenient location because I live on the island. Every time I enter the store it's different. Usually Derek is there and most of the time he's nice and cracking jokes, but sometimes he's just monotone and unhelpful as if he doesn't want to be there. I just figured he's having a bad day when that happens. The last time I went it was a lady and boy was she rude. She was being nice to a different lady who came in who I'm guessing she knew but as soon as I was up she started giving me attitude. I had to print a label and after waiting 5 minutes just to get the paper from her she just threw it on the counter and said "this is for usps can't help you". And started chatting with someone else. I still had another package I needed them to pack and ship so I just waited to be helped. She kept giving me dirty looks and eventually said "you can leave". I told her I had another package I needed to ship. After she was done chatting she just took the package and threw it on the floor and handed me the receipt. She was supposed to charge me for printing but to avoid having to ring me up just said instead to leave her a good review because "they need it". I feel like the service is always different in here. They're nice when they feel like it. Maybe that's why the reviews are either 5 stars or 1 star. They really just need more consistently nice and helpful staff. read more

Went here for passport photos. Their equipment is cheap and unreliable. Their service is unprofessional, to the point of incompetency. I can't conceive entrusting them with anything important. For a few bucks more, Walgreens provides much better service. I actually got a useable product there. And for mailing anything, Coronado Parcel and Mail on B Street just East of Orange is much more knowledgeable and competent. Sam R., regarding your reply. It is factually incorrect. First, you were never there. I dealt with a young woman. And Derek Mundt when I returned for a refund. Those were the only 2 people I saw. A discount? When I had to wait 15 minutes for the photos? Negligible at best. Same for saying sorry. Meaningless. Free photos? I received 4 photos, only one of which was without discoloration in the background. So I got less than the 2 photos I paid for. And that one did not reach the spec for a US passport (see below). Other customers? There was no one else there when I got my photos taken. But how would know since you weren't even there. Your attempt to imply I was at fault is simply false. If you look at the regulations for US passport photos, the distance from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head must be from 1" to 1 3/8". Are you even aware of that? In my photo that distance was less than an inch. It had nothing to do with cutting the photo. (By the way, Walgreens has a device which cuts the photo to the exact dimensions for you. Very convenient. Also their software makes certain the facial features are the correct size) Your disrespect for customers has been asserted by other reviewers. Terrible customer service. Worker kept telling me that the USPS was terrible and slow and losing workers. I mailed a package from this location on 4-20-2016 and it still has not been delivered. I had a concerning experience at this store yesterday. It was one of those things that was so surprising that I had to think about it later because it was so strange. I had a box to ship that had a pre-paid label. I didnt have any tape at home and thought I would just ask them to tape it there and purchase if needed. When I arrived I handed the box to the person at the counter. He said, " have you ever shipped with us before?" When I said yes he said "you should know that you should tape your box before you come." I said, "ok, i didnt have any tape, but I am happy to pay for it." He said, "well i'll do you a favor this time and tape it." (here is where things went sideways) I said,"ok." Now, I suppose I should have said thank you, but his tone was such that he seemed resentful for "doing me the favor" of taping the box and I said I would pay for it again. So he said, usually people say "thank you" when I do them a favor. I said--"ok, but you dont really seem like you want to do that and thats why I said I would pay for the tape" At this point there was another young woman in the store and I was looking at her to see if she was hearing how this was going down, because I was so surprised. So I reached for the box and said, "Maybe I should just take this somewhere else." He followed up by saying, "get out of my store. I dont need customers like you. never come back here..." Really??? He proudly stated that he is the owner--Sam Ramineni--and proceeded to tell me I am a bad person... Wow...seems a little out of proportion to the scenario--we are talking about a piece of tape that I wanted to pay for. Never had this type of interaction in any store, in any city etc...hard to believe in Coronado of all places. After looking this up on yelp, the reviews for this place are consistently poor. I dont know if the corporate entity of UPS has any accountability for their individually owned stores, but its too bad this guy is representing their brand. I was thankful it was day time and there was someone else in there, because it was concerning to be in there with that guy and his anger. I only go here under duress...ever since they tried to charge me for 24" of tape to seal my box. It's never good biz practice to nickel and dime...write it off on taxes, but don't pass it on to small town customers who remember this kind of thing. I've had a mailbox here for the last 3 years and it's been a fairly terrible experience. I would have changed stores, but didn't want to go through the hassle of changing my address again, plus the location worked well for me. Largest issues I've had: 1. I watched the (assistant?) store manager, Derek, actually yell at a customer (an older gentleman) when the guy made a comment about the store opening late one morning. It was shocking to see that reaction instead of Derek apologizing for the store opening late. 2. I was out of the country for 2 months, and before I left I asked Derek if I could hold my mail separate from the mailbox. It's a very small mailbox and even after being gone for a week I would come back to all my mail being crammed in and mangled. Derek said no problem. Two months later, I came back to a mailbox full of destroyed mail due to them just continuing to try and pack more and more items into the box. I don't know what happened to any mail that didn't fit. 3. I cannot rely on them leaving a slip in my mailbox for packages. Most of the time I have to keep track of shipping confirmations myself. There have been many instances where I don't receive a slip, only to find out a package had been delivered a week earlier. 4. I've had them lose one package of mine, and have been in the store several times when other customers are complaining about lost packages, or packages/mail of other people showing up in their mailbox. Huge organizational issues. 5. I ordered some printed proofs of items for my business and had them shipped in a lie-flat envelope so they wouldn't be damaged. I found the lie-flat envelope creased in half and (somehow) jammed into my mailbox, ruining what was inside. When I confronted Derek about this, he just said, "it didn't say do not fold." That's the whole point of lie-flat document packaging. If it could be folded, I would have had it shipped in flimsy packaging. Overall a very bad experience and would recommend using a different location if possible. read more

If ever a place deserved a negative rating- This is the place! The "assistant manager"- Derek is extremely rude and unprofessional. Told me to leave the store- said he does not deal with "animals" and did not need customers as UPS made over 8 Billion dollars last year- all because I asked to use the tape gun to tape up my package. Told me to take my package to the post office and refused to accept it. Really UPS? I understand this is a franchise operation, however I cannot believe the owner accepts this type of behavior from his employees and that UPS is okay with this store representing them. I seldom write a review, let alone a bad review. But I feel it is a disservice to the Coronado community not to warn them about the service provided by this UPS outlet. The manager servicing this place is totally unqualified to be sending important packages on your behalf. He lacks the professionalism to verify the information he inputs into the computer and he seems uninterested to solve his mistakes. This has been the second time he has sent a package of mine to the wrong place. I thought the first time was just a typo, but this time after I paid 100 dollars he sent my passports to the remote mountains of Durango, Mexico! Keep in mind he said: "I guarantee your package will be deliver to its final destination the day after tomorrow". Yes, he is that bad. read more

I just left this UPS location and I was so impressed with Jorge's customer service! I was trying to ship a router back to the customer but the box they provided did not adequately contain all the contents. Jorge came out to my car with me and carried it in and managed to modify the packing material so that the parts fit and were protected. I was so relieved and I offered to tip him but he would not take it. I will definitely use that UPS location again!! read more

Went to do an authorized return for a company and they tried to charge me $28.00 for an automatic return. The boy at the counter, Derek, then, after my protest, had the nerve to chastize me for speaking to him firmly in front of my children (loser.) Took it to another location and they had no problem sending it back with out the extra charge. Bad store, cheats and liars, DO NOT USE, go to the USPS or to Postal Annex, much friendlier. I have frequented this store for many years and have been impressed with the quality of the service and the kindness of the employees -- particularly Derik. He is very friendly and helpful. I often bring grandchildren in with me and he is very nice to them. It seems like many of the complaints recorded are from people who want free stuff (you really should provide your own tape and boxes or else expect to pay for them), or from people who do not watch their children (this is, after all, a place of business and should be respected as such). In fact, I always feel good about the world in general when I go in to this store to make copies, send a package, get something notarized, send a fax...The atmosphere is so positive and small-town friendly. read more

Terrible customer service! I needed to return something I had ordered online; the item came with its own UPS bag and mailing label in case of just such a situation. I popped in to the Coronado UPS store in between a wedding ceremony and the reception--the timing was perfect, a Saturday afternoon about 20 minutes before the UPS store was set to close. The employee there scanned my package, looked at me blankly, and said, "This label doesn't work." I looked at him, equally blankly, waiting for him to offer some possible solutions to our apparent impasse. Silly me. He had nothing--no suggestions whatsoever as to how this problem might possibly be solved. It literally felt like he expected me to just lose interest and wander away aimlessly. So it was up to me, the customer, standing there in wedding attire, to troubleshoot this UPS mailing label SNAFU. I asked him if he could try to scan it with the other scanner in the store; perhaps the one he used was malfunctioning? No. It was not malfunctioning. (He didn't try the other scanner, but instead used his current scanner to scan another package, and it apparently worked.) I asked him if he could type in the tracking number manually. He could, but the delivery truck drivers probably wouldn't. (What would that mean, exactly? Who knows. Maybe the package would be returned to me? Maybe the package would be used as first base in a game of after-work softball? Maybe the driver would have a fashion show with the clothing I was returning? The employee left the details of exactly what "I could type the numbers in but the drivers probably won't" meant to my imagination.) After another minute of blankly staring at each other, I said, "So you're telling me I can't send this package?" Nope. I grabbed it and literally ran out of the store in the hopes that I could make it to another location before it closed. In retrospect, I probably could have just paid for a new label, except that by the end of this experience, I would have rather jumped through the storefront window than given any money to this establishment. (Oh, and also, this possibility was never even hinted at by the employee.) These reviews seem to paint a consistent picture of this UPS store: if you need any critical, flexible, proactive, nonstandard, or solution-focused thought and action from an employee, go elsewhere. The epilogue to my story is that I did not make it to another UPS store in time and instead had to wait until Monday to send my package. I took my it to the UPS store in 4S Ranch, the lady there scanned the "bad" label, which worked PERFECTLY, handed me my receipt, and I was on my way less than five minutes after walking in the front door. read more
