Saw a lot of bad reviews, but you have to see it to believe it. He will not give you the receipt because he said it passed the pick up time. He wouldn't even scan the item til next day. No wonder people say they have missing package at this store. I have never heard of the store won't scan your package til next day because it passed the pick up hours. How can you prove you have dropped off the package there then? He can say he never receive your package. It just doesn't make any sense. I always suppose small business, but definitely not this one. Even though you pay the shipping cost, he still say you won't receive a receipt right away, wait til next morning and it will send to your email. Never heard of it. I understand that my transaction was simply a pre-paid drop off, and are generally considered a necessary evil. Which is a truth. However, in my experience in the area in which I live, a receipt is always offered. When I requested a receipt, I was told "it's just a tracking number, you know. It would be easier to take a picture." This wasn't just a merchandise return. I was sending my personal belongings back home after visiting the area. This receipt is more than tracking. It is the centers acknowledgement that they have accepted the package and now own responsibility for it until received by UPS. Not every drop-off customer wants to drop and run. There is a need to review customer service standards. And unfortunately that includes UPS' customers that are only potential center customers. read more

So I create an online packing slip and head down to the UPS store to drop off my very expensive ebay item. The brain dead clerk runs the usual hustles over packaging and packing peanuts at the price of gold. I play along, knowing I'm screwed on time. I get slapped on the $10 minimum credit card fee scam (because they don't want to pay the fee and hate giving you a record of anything). Then the whammy, "Can I have a printed confirmation of receipt?" "Nah dude, we don't have a scanner," I look over at their scanner gun and then back to the clerk, "but you can write down your tracking number on this piece of paper and then like keep it for reference, dude." "Really? Even though the UPS website says "GET A SIGNED RECEIPT AT THE STORE?" Clerk head starts spewing sparks and smoke. Blue screen of death pops up in his eyes. IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING EXPENSIVE AND WANT VALIDATION THAT YOU LEFT IT IN THE TRUSTING HANDS OF A MINIMUM WAGE TEENAGER, DON'T BOTHER GOING TO A UPS STORE! Instead UPS would like you to drive out to the Oakland Airport just to get a receipt or pay $20 for a driver who's already delivering to your neighborhood to stop by and pick up a package. Yeah really. Weird the franchise managers want to put their customers in this awkward situation, probably much simpler to get REPEAT BUSINESS if they'd just give us a dam receipt! read more

I've had a mailbox here for nearly 6 years, and I love the service. Everyone knows me, and my huge packages and now I even get an e-mail telling me when something has arrived. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and understand when things need to be delivered in a timely manner. read more

I'm a positive person who prefers to leave positive reviews. I'll be succinct with my negativity. Walk across the street and go to Fedex. Sales clerk Gxxxxxx was rude- told me "he didn't want to rush me, but they were closing". Yes, I walked in to ship 5 mins before closing and he had things he'd rather be doing. I get it, but I was the only person in the store. Luckily I was rushed out, because I walked across the street and shipped via FedEx. For HALF the cost. My only complaint about this place is the confusion about when they are actually open. They don't post their hours on the door, and apparently the hours listed on the UPS website are not correct. Took me 3 tries to return a package! Finally succeeded this morning, though apparently I was there before they opened. I walked in at 8:50--according to the website they open at 8:30--and there was one clerk opening up the register. He luckily took my pre-paid return, told me they don't actually open until 9, and was sympathetic when I said that's not what the website says. They get the 2 stars only for him being accommodating. Dear people who want free tape - this is not a free tape service. It's a mail box center where you can get your business mail after hours, receive mail from any carrier (unlike a PO box), and drop off prepaid packages. I print my shipping labels online and the guys are always very friendly when I go in. UPS isn't always the cheapest option, but they will send things FedEx and the Postal Service won't, like glass. Yep, the FedEx store will give you free tape. If that's your goal in life, please leave the UPS store to us small biz folks who need a full-service shipping center. read more

This is a great place to drop off the returns of my online purchases. When I first started buying things online, I used to worry all the time about how I was going to send packages back that came via UPS. That is until I found this awesome location. What makes it awesome? The fact that I am always able to drive right up to the front of the store and park for free in the green zone, which has always been available, even on weekends. Shocking, I know! And then, all I have to do is run in with my package and leave it on the counter. They take care of the rest. Easy peasy. read more

I called to check the store hours on March 21, 2020 (Saturday) at 11:20am. I didn't get the associate's name but I bet he's the only guy working that day. The guy answered me and said. "Here's the deal. I only accept drop off packages today if it's only emergency. If it's only returns or whatsoever, just do it next Monday." I was extremely disappointed with his answer, I was just asking their store hours and if it's alright to drop off a package. He's so rude and very bad customer service! Jacky was an excellent notary. Jack, her counterpart in the store was also excellent. I had documents from out of state with important real estate transaction docs that needed notary and Jacky was patient and clearly communicated what I needed to do. I had called another UPS in Monteclaire and the service was terrible...that location essentially wasted five minutes of my time and then told me "we are too busy, call back." I've used this store a few times for RMAs and Zappos returns, and it's always been fine. I've not had to interact with store personnel for much time, though. I suppose the prices aren't good if you're sending personal mail, but in my experience that seems to be the case for all of the major shippers (Fedex, USPS, etc.). They also recycle packing peanuts, which was super nice ... I had 4 paper bags full of them lying around for a long time, because I'm too eco-conscious to throw them in the trash. read more

I go here because it's in my neighborhood. Customer service has always been spotty. They hire a bright star then eventually that person gets worn down and leaves. They often close early so you can't rely on their posted hours. They don't seem like they are well supported or motivated by management and one always feels a little guilty asking for help as the general attitude is that they'd prefer not to help customers. But they are a convenient place to get things done. read more

I tried calling several times before I came in. The line was busy every time. I came in and the sole employee was on the phone, ignoring myself and three other customers while he discussed a botched notary job and apologized for it about 10 times. He must make more income as a notary than working the UPS counter, as the phone call was his primary concern. Customer service was not. read more

Dear Manager of this store, When your store is open until 5pm, customers expect that if they arrive before 5pm the door should not be closed, but rather they should be able to come in to do their business. If your staff thinks that because the store closes at 5pm it means that they LEAVE at 5pm, then the store hours should be until 4:45 or 4:50. I arrived today, Sat 7/15, at 4:57, to find John locking the door. He had already pulled the metal gate inside closed. He had already shut down the computer system. He told me so. I explained that if the store hours were until 5pm, he shouldn't be closing the door. But he said that transactions take 10 minutes, and so I was too late - that I should have arrived earlier. Again I say, if as a manager this is acceptable to you, then you should post an earlier closing time, so that your customers don't expect to arrive before 5pm and be turned away. Incidentally, I got the same thing a few weeks back when I needed something notarized. I arrived about 5 minutes before closing, and the notary guy was pretty much ready to go home. I got a little pushback but I apologized about arriving right before closing. Well he didn't tell me he couldn't do my transaction! He did it, it took about 7 minutes, and then we both left. Please either tell your staff that they should accept customers up until 5, or change your hours. read more

My first time going into this UPS store was today. I had a package to return to amazon. I had a pre-printed amazon return label, but the box I had to hold all my return items was a bit large, and I had nothing that I could use to fill it (from now on, keeping a stash of fill-air). The UPS store guys were nice enough to take my unsealed and unpadded box. It's worse, my label was attached with scotch tape, apparently another bad thing. They said they would fix it all. It's something I think they normally would charge for if I didn't have the return label. So 4 stars for the UPS store being very flexible and taking my un-padded mis-attached labeled box and fixing it up to go to amazon. I'll definitely ship with them again (and will keep some fill-air at home for returns). read more

I have to say, I the guys in this store are great. I'm sort of surprised to read some of these reviews because they have always been helpful. I go here when I need help with a package... figuring out how to box it, what to do with returns, etc. I actually don't mind paying service fees for tape, etc. In short, I come here for ~service~, and it has always been excellent here. The services I've used include shipping packages, returns, receiving packages, and notary. (I was especially glad to discover a notary right here in Chimes). I agree they should be clearer about their hours. read more

I went here to mail 2 packages, asked the guy if he had any tape and then he lectured me about how everyone comes without tape. I've done this at many UPS stores and never had a problem. Don't go here. Today I had a 2-lb package in a small box. They told me priority mail would be $77. I told them that couldn't be right, but they stood fast. UPS Ground was $24.95 -- the cheaper option, they said. I went to the post office. Priority mail was $17. I came back and said I must have misheard them when they said $77. The guy proudly shook his head and said no, the computer said $77. I showed him the receipt from the post office, and without apologizing, he said he'd have to reboot the system, since he'd done everything right. Not too bright. Also, in the past when I came here for a notary appointment I'd made online, they informed me (without apology of course) that they didn't accept appointments and that the notary had no schedule. Hmmmm....Seems like the problem has been some sad hires here. I am not sure who those dudes were. Every time I have been there I have been SUPER happy. Now I am closer to Solano, so I go there more often, (well actually truth be told I am closer to EC but I REFUSE to go there!- not so good)- but when I am in this part of the Berkeley/Oakland area this is my go-to shop. If I need anything, help, advise on how to send something, explanations or a simple sticker for my box, they always provide no questions asked- just thoughtful and super helpful. AND The owner is always SO gracious, smiling and funny! Love that! Maybe others had a bad experience with a bad employee...face it...good help is hard...but seems to me thats over with and you should all try again! read more

I went in today to return a package to Amazon. I had them print the label up for me which cost three dollars. I only had a credit card saying Which they would not accept because " what's in it for us then?we wont make enough money if we let use a credit card. Besides my boss would kill me "(UPS doesn't charge Amazon any $ for shipping returns? Please) I said , "what about just being a good neighbor?" and the agent just laughed in my face. So I went home and printed the label up for free and now a UPS driver and will come and pick it up at my house. And what does this cost me? Nothing. What does it cost UPS? A lot more than if they let me drop it off and pay for my shipping label with a credit card. Lesson. UPS is a great shipping company while their policies at the drop off centers cost the company both money and customers. read more

I know it's the holidays, and shipping prices reflect that, but when I attempted to ship a package today (Dec 22nd) to arrive by the 26th or 27th, I was told that nothing was being shipped out UNTIL the 26th. However, if I wanted to pay $115 (6x6 box, under 1lb) I could ship it overnight. How, if they are not shipping anything out until Wednesday, could they send it overnight now? How come 2 and 3 day service wasn't an option until the 26th if they are willing to ship overnight today? I feel incredibly nickled and dimed. I went to another store that services UPS and they told me that it could NOT be true that they couldn't ship anything until Wednesday. There, I paid $20 and my package will arrive in time for Christmas. Shame on this store for attempting to take advantage of its last-minute customers. I'm appalled. read more

The staff at this UPS location are extremely rude and unhelpful. It was not just one time or one employee but every time I come in. The last straw was their policy to charge for prepaid packages. For example, if I am returning merchandise that I purchased and received a free, prepaid label from the seller, this UPS store still charges a service fee (not postage) for merely accepting the package. I will be going to another UPS store (or drop off location) even though it is a little further away. read more

I dropped by on a Saturday to ship a prepaid return package. The girl at the counter told me she couldn't give me a receipt because the package wouldn't go out until Monday. I explained that the shipment delay was not a problem, but obviously I would need a receipt to verify that I had given them the package. She said "I don't know how to do that." Some guy who might have been a manager approached and told me that the computer system is unable to provide a receipt for a dropoff on a weekend. Really? I went to the UPS store on telegraph, a few blocks away, dropped off the package, and received a receipt with no problem. Train your staff. read more

I took a small boxed gift and a large envelope to this store on December 21 and was told there were two options for getting them to Ohio by Christmas -- $168 or $99, neither guaranteed. I walked a half a block to the FedEx store and mailed both pieces for $21.50, guaranteed to arrive by December 23. They arrived on time and my niece was able to wear her necklace on Christmas Day. I live in Rockridge and have used this store for years. UPS used to offer better prices than FedEx -- obviously that is not the case anymore. Dropped off a package at this store, and wanted a receipt. There was a power outage, so they could not scan it and provide a machine produced receipt. Fine, that's not their fault. So I asked for a handwritten receipt, just confirming that I had dropped off the package at the store. Carlos, the young and obviously inexperienced clerk, said that was impossible, he was forbidden to provide a handwritten receipt. pretty absurd, and obviously wrong. Of course it couldn't be entered into the UPS tracking system with the power off, but he obviously could give me a handwritten receipt confirming that I had left it at the store, which is all I asked. He then told me they were performing a community service (!!!) by accepting the drop off,as if a UPS franchisee could refuse to accept it and did so only as a special favor for the customer. I have stopped using UPS as a general matter for my own shipments, because they are so much more expensive than Fed Ex, which is across the street from this store. But when Amazon gives me a UPS label to return the merchandise, I bring it to a store. I won't use this one again. I should have just taken the package to a different UPS store. But that would have been a hassle, especially as it was raining hard when I dropped it off December 10. But perhaps I should have anyway...who knows what Carlos will really do with this package. read more

I've had a post box here for years. I've seen lots of staff come and go. They keep getting better, and the UPS store's run better over the years. Having had a small retail business, I know how exhausting it can be to face a demanding public hour after hour, day in & day out, with little pause. They have their hands full because of a convenient location.They offer a lot of services. Each individual patron sees only their urgent needs in the moment that they show up, without regard for everything else tugging on the staff's sleeves; phone calls, questions, notarization, xeroxing, selling office supply items, logging, stashing, then finding & handing over packages, sorting, stashing & receiving mail, answering endless repetitive questions, figuring out how to ship odd shaped packages, & on & on & on. We assume everything has to be done yesterday. Parking in the back hasn't been a problem, if there are no street slots. Lighten up, peeps, given the space's constraints, I think they're doing a fine job. read more

Awful service, close to FRAUDULENT business practices. Many months ago I had a few boxes of very expensive stereo equipment that needed to be serviced. I had them boxed in original packing, and second boxed for safety. The employee told me he could ONLY ship it by air because of it's value, and that it wasn't safe to ship ground b/c things disappeared from UPS ground when the items were high value. When I said I'd take the chance, he said his manager would fire him if he shipped it ground. Implied this was a UPS policy. The total cost of shipping would be $1,300. Bewildered, I left with my boxes, called UPS who said there was no such policy, and they couldn't understand what the employee of this franchise was talking about since if my boxes were stollen it would be UPS's responsibility to handle the insurance, not the franchise's. I drove it to the UPS main dropoff in Oakland, was able to ship it fully insured by ground for about $300. Clearly the guys here are doing what they can to increase their profits, lying on the way to get more $$. I've still gone occasionally to drop off a few things and have heard similar hogwash coming from their mouths to other customers. E.g. that they won't insure something because they didn't personally box the item. I checked with UPS and this is complete BS. Just another way for them to rack up extra charges. Absurdly overpriced. Needed to move so I bought some boxes here thinking a box is a box and probably the around the same price everywhere... NOT TRUE... They charged $8 for medium boxes and $12 for large boxes. 7 boxes set me back $80. Manager said bring any back that you don't end up using and we'll buy them back..... Went to Home Depot saw the same boxes for $2 each. Bought those instead, went to bring my boxes back to UPS. Manager (who I bought them from) said I need your receipt to know they were from this store.... YOU JUST HELPED ME BUY THEM.... Suffice it to say I'm out 80 bucks and I didn't even use their crappy boxes. Will never do business with UPS again. read more

They made right by me in a big way, redoing photos for a passport application that had been botched the week before and absorbing all costs, incl. expedited mailing to the east coast. After posting my negative review below, I got an appointment today to go in and talk to the store manager. In all fairness, I must say that he listened to my complaint calmly and with concern. When I showed him the receipt for what I had been charged and a photo of the wrong postage on the envelope, he had no explanation of how this could have happened. To his credit, he readily offered to refund my money. I readily accepted. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I doubt that one more complaint will change things at this store, but here goes... $18.64 for three first-class stamps?? What a rip-off!! The kid at the counter assured me my envelope would go USPS Priority Mail and arrive in three days. Even though the receipt said "first class letter" he insisted it was Priority. I asked for a tracking number and he said he couldn't provide one. But he again said it was Priority Mail. You're right, I shouldn't have believed him. Eight days later the envelope hadn't arrived in Pennsylvania. I went back to inquire (and yes, to complain.) Another kid looked at the receipt and assured me that my envelope went Priority because $18.64 is their rate for Priority envelopes. But of course there's no tracking number and no way to track a missing shipment. There's nothing he could (or would) do. On the ninth day the envelope arrived at its destination. It had three first-class stamps on it. Yep, just stamps pasted on. No metered postage. No Priority label. Just three lick-em-and stick-em "forever" stamps. Is this any way to run a business? You make up your own mind; I've already decided. read more
