I have eaten here several times and the food is very tasty But I'm my worst experience I ordered a latte and a ham cheese croissant to go and it took 45 minutes. They gave away my order to somebody else and when I asked about it after a half hour they didn't apologize that didn't explain what was going on. Then when they finally gave me my order after 45 minutes, they didn't apologize, they didn't acknowledge that anything at all it happened they just handed me my food and said "here you go". I understand things happen but acknowledging a mistake when you make one for a paying customer is the least you can do and they failed to do that So if you don't mind waiting a very long time for very expensive food that tastes good and getting very bad service then by all means keep patronizing this establishment. It was my last time here, I won't be patronizing them again and I'll be spending my money elsewhere. read more

This was our third time to Sparrow Bakery and second time to this specific location (they had moved from a little drive-in spot to a whole store front)! Their coffee is amazing, we ended up getting the matcha latte and a vanilla latte with oat. Both having great flavors to their respective name, they were not overly sweetened as some other places tend to do. We got an Ocean Roll this time due to a suggestion of some friends and that was a great choice! It was a great balance of sweet and savory. Typically don't like super sweet items, this was perfect amount and ate this and left no crumbs whatsoever. The servers are always so nice and the ambiance is lively, there is never a dull moment here. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Be aware, they don't allow dogs indoors, but you can bring your furry friend to sit in their outdoor seating area. Always have to make a stop here whenever we're in Bend. Tried this local favorite coffee place on many recommendations. No wonder it's famous. This place is definitely crowded but the crowd keeps moving because it has ample amount of seating and has outdoor seating too. You order, pickup the food & drinks, search for an empty place, enjoy and leave. Hassle free environment. Coffee is really amazing and one of the best I had. Ocean roll is very famous item here and you wouldn't be disappointed. It has cardamom flavor which stands out and you cannot resist it after one bite. We ordered couple of bakery items and everything was good. The only item I was disappointed was in their bagels, they aren't soft and lot of ingredients on top of them making it difficult to eat. Then the people two spots behind me in line throw a fit and mysteriously 6 Ocean Rolls appear from the kitchen. But that's not the end. We ordered a hot Matcha latte, wait 20 minutes, and found chunks of unprocessed matcha powder floating throughout. The food arrived, 48 minutes after ordering, the breakfast sandwich was the third monstrosity to arrive. The bacon was burnt black, the aoli was a joke and there was enough arugula to feed an army of rabbits. Then there is the croque. Essentially on Wonder Bread. Uncooked Safeway ham and burnt black cheese meet enough mustard to cover an Octoberfest. RIP Sparrow, we won't be back. read more

My friend had great things to say about Sparrow Bakery, and I visited this location before I ended my trip at Bend. Based on the line, I could tell this was a popular morning spot, and I was impressed that so many people would visit during a weekday morning. I appreciated how the employee taking my order answered menu questions, and there was both indoor and outdoor seating available. I ordered the bacon breakfast sandwich, which I thought was fine: I liked the croissant but thought that the amount of egg and bacon was overwhelmed by the amount of arugula and avocado. I know that their Ocean Roll is very popular, and I'm a sucker for a pastry that includes cardamom. Out of the two baked goods that I tried, I enjoyed the Ocean Roll more than the pretzel but did not regret any of the food decisions I made! read more

I truly appreciate the team at Sparrow; the staff is kind, professional, and empathetic. However, as an out-of-towner who can't easily return to resolve issues, I'm sharing this to help management improve. My $76.35 tab included a missing $6.25 carrot cake. The store was not busy at the time so that cannot be a reasonable excuse for the oversight. For the duration of my order, two people were in the store. Then a second party of two came in behind me. No person was seated at any table. All chairs were empty. Two customer groups, 4 people in the store. More frustrating was the smushed $17 Bacon & Egg Croissants. Putting the somewhat delicate croissant sandwiches in paper sleeves (commonly used and more suitable for baked goods) was not a good decision. Placing those delicate croissant sandwiches into the larger brown shopping bag with four other baked goods (the fifth would have been the carrot cake) and a sandwich box, created sufficient compression on the sides of every paper sleeved item, resulting in the croissant sandwiches being somewhat smushed. The croissant was removed from the bag (to eat it) within 3 to 5 min after the server put it in the paper tote bag. It's not like we went hiking and then discovered the compacted sandwiches later. Of the food items, only the lox bagel survived packing because it was properly boxed and protected. Imagine that. The food quality and quantity didn't justify the "premium" price. The croissant sandwiches were particularly skimpy on filling although the bacon was dominate in volume but not high quality meat. I'll give you a star for adequate avocado but considering the sandwich's condition, I was not able to determine if the avocado was a intended to be a spread or sliced sections. Sparrow needs to either increase the food quality/quantity or lower the price to stop shortchanging customers. I have fond memories of the Scott St. location, but based on this experience, future cash flows into the NW Crossing location have become uncertain. read more

I lived in Bend for almost 20 years and started buying Sparrow's great products when they were selling bread out of the kiosk on highway 97 in about 2006. I moved out of Bend in 2014 (tourist hordes and winter snow in that order were drivers) but still visit my elderly dad in Bend several times a year and Sparrow purchases are always on the list of things 'to do'. Like his favorite banana bread. We buy Sparrow treasures, including fantabulous baguette, mostly via their displays at wonderful, local Newport Avenue Market these days to avoid the sometimes crush of people at the lovely NW Crossing bakery (did I mention tourists - over 1.5 million to little Bend annually) and because my husband and I are in Newport nearly daily when we visit. My friend who was a local brought back one as a little gift a couple years back and I have been absolutely possessed by them since. Undoubtedly all the food was good, and we ordered quite a bit. Everything came out quickly and exactly as ordered, plus the staff were incredibly friendly. The price is very much worth the quality and the servings are generous. Ok so I know some decent bakeries and this one is right up there with the best. Ocean Roll is obviously on the Bucket List but I'd have to say their breakfast croissant with egg, bacon, and a light aioli is absolutely to die for. But then again I had the ham and cheese croissant and thought that was to die for. Now I'm like a cat with 9 lives but there are greater than 9 things to die for so I cut my losses and will be coming back to try other pastry delights from The Sparrow! Don't relax on customer service! The cashier was more concerned with making and sipping her green drink before taking my order. I stood there waiting for her to finish. Take your break when the line is gone (no one behind me). When the cashier was finally ready to take my order there was no eye contact, smile or greeting. No indication of "I'm here for you!" Don't just go through the motions, engage with your customer. In addition, the bathroom needed attention - out of toilet paper, full trash can and paper on the floor. There are 2 lines: one for "express" takeaway ordering (coffee, baked goods) and one for sit down Though the lines were pretty long they moved fast and I got my order quickly! Came to Bend for the weekend and tried this placed on my sisters recommendation. The lattes were really good. We got a few pastries to go but sat and ate breakfast. Their breakfast sandwich was really good and with the poached egg very messy lol. I embarrassed my husband by tucking a napkin into my shirt. The staff was friendly and patient. Sparrow bakery has a really open and bright interior with huge windows that let a ton of natural light in, this makes it a really nice spot to start your morning for breakfast and coffee. The coffee itself it's really excellent, I think they use stumptown coffee. All of the baked goods were really delicious and the Waldorf chicken on a fresh croissant was my favorite. I have found in many coffee shops , an only " with my party "- vibe is natural . This is more French, way more inclusive , and interesting . The world is full of endearing eccentric people. Wow. Haven't been since they moved. Terrible croissants. Looked amazing on the outside, but the inside was doughy and gooey, not the light airiness a great croissant has. It reminded me of a Pillsbury crescent roll, only much more expensive. My wife's macchiato had zero milk, only foam that actually rose high over the rim of the cup like a sno cone at the fair. During my time in the Pacific Northwest, I was doing Door Dash in Bend Oregon, and discovered this charming microcosm, a neighborhood with its own upscale downtown, complete with restaurants, shops, salons and a school. The place that first brought me to this neighborhood (at NW Crossing Drive and Mt. Washington Drive) was a delivery I picked up at a beautiful place called The Sparrow Bakery. Fast forward a week or so to my birthday weekend in Longview Washington, and I'd met with a friend of mine, and we had gotten on the subject of Bend, and she mentioned The Sparrow Bakery, and one of their specialties, The Ocean Roll. She absolutely raved about how much she loved and enjoyed it, and that I should try one. After my birthday weekend, I returned to Bend and continued Door Dashing, and every time I ended up at The Sparrow Bakery, the line was out the door, which is always a good sign for a local business. But that level of business is not compatible with trying to make deliveries on time, so I put the idea on the back burner until I had a little time to spare. During the interim, I had actually heard the locals praise the place for their consistency and craftsmanship of their baked goods, which added to the hype and whetted my appetite for the legendary Ocean Roll even more! Well, today, I ended up picking up deliveries at The Sparrow Bakery five times, and I absolutely decided that today would be the day, so between my shifts, I stopped there and got in line with the locals who absolutely seem to adore this place. After a few minutes, I finally made it in the door, and took in the ambiance of the place. It's a brightly lit place, with comfy looking seating and a table by the line where they display merch associated with their business. For as busy as it was, the staff there really seems to love their jobs as they lit up the room even further with their smiles and infectious positive attitudes. The line actually moved pretty quickly, and it wasn't long until I ordered the fabled Ocean Roll, accompanied by an iced vanilla latte (made with Stumptown Coffee). They bagged my Ocean Roll up pretty quickly, and I found myself at the end of the counter making small talk with a very pleasant young lady making my coffee. She handed me my coffee, and since there wasn't a place available to sit, I took it to go. Now, having been gone from the Pacific Northwest for as long as I have, I'd actually forgotten there was even a thing called Stumptown Coffee, and how delicious it is. That was one of the smoothest iced lattes I've had in years, and the taste was full, but not overbearing. It definitely avoids the trap that a lot of other coffees get into where the beans taste burned or overcooked. Props to the young lady who brewed and mixed that iced coffee! Then I moved onto the Ocean Roll. Now, no pastry on this earth has no business being this fantastic! The bread was soft and pillowy on the inside, with a crispness on the outside, with a nice balance of sweetness that is present but not sickly sweet, I'm not sure what was in that thing, and I hope I never find out, because I wouldn't want to spoil the magic. It's clear that this is made with a lot of love, and that it's definitely one of their signature items. This was the perfect midday snack for me, it was quite large and very filling. Simply put, I can't say enough good things about the Ocean Roll. So yeah, The Sparrow Bakery not only lives up to the hype, it exceeds it. This place is tucked away in a cute little neighborhood, but is definitely worth it if you're in Bend, and looking for something a little different. We're new to Bend (I'm from the east coast and DH grew up in OR) and trying out all sorts of eating spots (I guess there are about 350 in this tiny town). I do like to read reviews on Yelp before I venture into any place, and as far as coffee spots go, this one got high ratings. The pictures I saw kind of put this into a mass production model, with industry seating (limited for the business I witnessed) and atmosphere. So definitely not a cozy place if that's what you're looking for. It's also in the middle of the NWX residential area, so lots of neighborhood people. We got in line at around 0845 on Saturday (today) with only a couple of people ahead of us. In line for about 10 minutes before we moved to the counter. We each got large mochas, he an eclair and myself a cinnamon "knot". The ticket was just shy of $25 which seems the normal high cost for restaurants in Bend. We got our pastries and waited about 10 minutes for the drinks. They were pretty good! The eclair was pretty good (but small) and my cinnamon roll was hearty enough that hubby started defiling it. haha. Anyway, I'd say this was probably the best coffee/pastry place we've been, but the ambiance definitely lacking. Stopped by for some breakfast with a friend on a crisp weekend morning. There was already a line out the door, so I knew that it was a poppin' spot. When I go to bakeries, I usually get their pastries and if we're dining in then I'll order something breakfast-y. I went with their Monte Cristo. It's usually one of my FAVORITE breakfast items, since it's got that sweet jam with the salt from the turkey and gruyere cheese. Sparrow's Monte Cristo is definitely on the crispier side from their miche bread made in house. Definitely not made for sensitive gums. I felt like their salty to sweet ratio was perfect--some places overstuff the sando with turkey which overpowers the balance. I was very full after it, but may I suggest a side salad or something to balance out the sandwich? I also got their chocolate croissant to go which was DELISH. Finger-lickin' good. I also love that they had a few tables in their outdoors patio, dog and kid-friendly! They also have a bus your own utensils station and a self-serve water station.
