Strangely popular in Sunriver and they do provide pretty good dating but nothing to rave about. There are two choices of morning coffee or drinks in Sunriver: Hot Lava and Brewed Awekenings and both are about average on the quality of products that they offer and it's almost like a fad amongst people. Hot Lava does have sweet (plenty) and savory which is a good thing but still it's about regular rating for what's available and if you compare to somewhere would normally go for morning drinks and breakfast sandwiches Lots and lots of sweet options that will start your your day with almost 1500+ calories which somehow people who visit Sunriver seem to like So I would give this an average rating and very little healthy options available here read more

Let me start with the good news: the food here is genuinely an 11/10. The kind of food that makes you forgive things you absolutely should not forgive. Now, the less good news. From the moment you step up to the counter, you are made to feel like a walking inconvenience. Today's adventure began when I politely asked, twice, to have my three donuts placed in a box, you know, because I was giving them as a gift and bags are not exactly the universal symbol of "I care about you." Request denied. Apparently boxes are rationed. We then ordered two jalapeño Aspen bagels, two drinks, and handed over nearly $60 without blinking. When the buzzer went off, my sister picked up our order only to discover one bagel was plain and one was correct. She went back up to flag the mix-up, and the same woman who took our order looked her dead in the eye and informed her that no, we had not ordered them the same way. And that was simply... that. Case closed. Court adjourned. The service is a firm 1/10. The food is so good it almost makes you forget you weren't wanted there. Almost. As a local, I'll be back, the food will make sure of that. But I'll definitely talk myself out of it a few extra times because of interactions like this. Hot lava bakery is severely underrated on here !! My husband and I were so impressed by the size and quality of the food. We were stopping for a quick breakfast and got HUGE breakfast sandwiches on a homemade croissants (delicious) and some got a maple donut to go - bigger than the size of my hand. Their dirty chais were also great - more spicy than sweet. I ordered a birthday cake for my husbands birthday while we were celebrating in Sunriver. Just white cake with white buttercream and sprinkles, smallest size available online for $50. Was in Sunriver and looking for iced coffees. We started to head towards the coffee shop by the grocery store when someone in our group stopped us and said, "No, follow me." They took us all the way back past the mini golf and back towards the climbing wall to this bakery we'd never seen before. When we went in, we were immediately faced with delicious looking pastries. Our group got their iced coffees, but also a huge marionberry fritter that was calling our name. Our experience with two baristas was extremely frustrating after an item was unintentionally left off our order. We didn't realize this of course, so after the item was never made, I checked in on it. At that time, the barista working confirmed the existence of the coffee, and told me it'd be started in a minute. The drink was for my father so I let him know to continue waiting in the standing room only cafe. Of course the drink never came, because the order didn't exist. So I checked in again, unaware of this fact. That's when what I assume was her manager lectured me on miscommunication and blamed me for stepping out of the restaurant (which was what everyone needed to do). I never got an apology for this simple mistake from the first barista, and was treated like some annoying person for checking in on something I thought we paid for. A little understanding and a quick apology from the baristas would have gone a long way, but instead, I got a condescending and rude confrontation. read more

We got the Mountain Man Sandwich on a Croissant (ham, sausage, bacon, cheddar, egg, onion and chipotle sauce, $12.50) and a Lava Sandwich on a Cheese Bagel (ham, egg, cheddar, red onion and jalapeños, $11.75). Holy heck, they were totally worth the price and tasted awesome. The Lava Sandwich was full of jalapenos that did give a lil bit of a kick, so beware! Of course, I had to grab some sweets, we picked up the iconic Big Foot Donut ($3.75) Dulce de Leche Turnover ($3.75) and a Marionberry Strudel ($5.50). While they were all delicious, the strudel by far was the best! It's a huge piece completely stuffed with sweet marionberry sauce enveloped in beautifully flaky pastry. Bought a bunch of the baked goods on our way to our daily hiking in the area. Decent bakery. The cinnamon roll (or whatever it was) was good. We had one that had raspberry jam on it, which was different. I don't remember anything that was a standout though, but by this point I was already a bit over all the treats we had bought on our trip. You have a choice between "iced" (has light icing) or "frosted" (heavy frosting) rolls. I really appreciate they offer the two choices rather than only one. They offer MANY other delicious baked goods but the cinnamon rolls are on a WHOLE other level. Coffee is decent. Staff are welcoming and friendly. We were surprised at all the yummy treats that Hot Lava had. So my oldest daughter and I picked out items we liked and treats we thought my Mom and youngest daughter would like. Honestly surprised by the good reviews of this place. I will say there was nothing in particular that made our experience horrible, but it was definitely lackluster and I probably wouldn't come back either. Upon entering, this spot smells overwhelmingly sweet. As someone with an incredibly large sweet tooth, this might sound great, but there wasn't anything that caught my eye and the sugar smell was almost nauseating. The employees were nice but the girl who helped us seemed to try and confuse us while ordering our food which I found to be a little off putting. I ordered a fritter and a chocolate donut. The fritter was not bad but not great either. It tasted burnt in some parts and oily in others. The chocolate donut tasted stale. I was a little disappointed we had even stopped by after finishing about half of each item. Maybe it was an off day, maybe not. It was hard to tell. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again the next time I'm in SunRiver. This spot is honestly more like a donut shop than any bakery I've ever been to.
