I've frequented the Owls Nest for years but normally for drinks and appetizers. It's a great place to watch the sunset and enjoy the evening buzz. Our waitress was kind, helpful, and attentive... the meal was not perfect. I would not suggest the deviled eggs or oyster shots but it may have been an off night in the kitchen. The hostess Colleen was probably the best part of our visit . Our server said she was too busy and asked us to open the Champagne bottle we just ordered . Food arrived on time but for the price it was very mediocre . My caesar salad was 4 romaine leaves with dressing and a small anchovy . it was 33$ and it was 14$ to add a small piece of chicken . I think both restaurant use the same kitchen .... that means there is one chef for both and he is creating overpriced dishes that makes you feel that you got ripped off . read more

Beautiful views and highly disappointing and overpriced food. Staff helped two other customers who got there after I did, I had to get their attention on their way to help a third. This was seated at the to-go ordering bar that seats literally 4 people, I was seated there staring at the staff for nearly 20 minutes with my wallet in my hands. Spent $35 plus tip for one order of pulled pork mac and cheese. It lists the pasta as house made. Unfortunately the noodles tasted exactly as I imagine the cardboard to-go bowl does, there was hardly any cheese sauce, the pulled pork was wet and entirely unseasoned, and the seed-laden slices of raw jalapeno finished the dish off poorly. What a disappointment! First, ambience: since the bar was crowded, we sat in the restaurant at a 4 top in the corner. The lights were so bright and I felt like a spotlight was on me. Noise - so loud! Lots of kids. Drinks - the sangria was not good. They were overpriced. The deviled eggs had zero flavor. We didn't even finish them. I ordered the steak frites which was really good, but I ordered medium rare and was advised by the waiter that if I normally like medium rare, I should order medium. So I did. It was medium well - no pink. The giant pretzel was cold. Didn't seem like it was ever warmed up. So, for 2 drinks, steak frites deviled eggs, a pretzel and a bowl of tomato soup, the bill was $98. We were here on NYE weekend, and while yes the service was stupid slow, I will have to give a hand to the staff. They were so packed, and I'm sure over whelmed at times. The prices of the food here are definitely not the best, but it's kind of what to expect when showing up to a place like this. The food is good here. We had the steak salad, chicken wings, pretzel, and tomato soup. I can't tell you how many drinks were had on NYE. The drinks the amazing bartenders made were delicious. To start, the person that sat us had no greeting and no smile. She sat us at the worst table right at the entrance and wouldn't let us move. When we left, again no smile or thanks for coming. The waitress was nice but never offered us water or second drinks or dessert. When we were ready to leave she was nowhere to be found and we had to get a waiter from the bar to get us our check. Owls Nest is the bar/food area with outdoor seating weather permitting. No it is not perfect service-wise so set your expectations correctly and enjoy the vistas, and just relax. Location: In the main lodge of the Sunriver resort. Fantastic, not as fantastic as decades past but still great with nice parking most days. Always updating and improving their Sunriver Brand. Menu: Really impressed with current menu options, check online. Basic Amercian cuisine. Food Prep: Done very nicely for a resort. Food Quality: Excellent, better than most resorts for bar food. Waitstaff: Always seem happy yet new faces all the time. We all know staffing is a mess but they seem to onboard quickly and not be short staffed. Overall Value: There is a price for everything, I feel this is an exceptionally great value with built in equity. Please don't expect perfection especially during peak season, but in the end it will be a great experience. Nasty YELPERS simply don't get it. When it came to ordering off kids menu, the urge is the same size as the adult. Maybe great for. 8-10 year old. It would have been helpful, if the waitress told us the kids burger could be split since we had a 3 year old and 5 year old at the table. Not a word. Waste of food and money. The guy who brought our food ever asked us where the split food was going (because adults split). Pepper on fries also not thoughtful for a kids menu. Deviled eggs so so. Charcuterie - cherries were the highlight along with the very tasty strawberries. Chicken wings - REALLY? I mean really? They're charging $20 for SIX standard chicken wings??? That alone loses at least one full star! Lodge Burger - You know it was just okay. I was disappointed in that the pics showed a pretzel like bun which in reality was a soggy, doughy mess and it tasted like a 50s jelopy diner burger. With no spices it was absolutely not worth getting again. Cobb salad (steak) - the steak was absolutely SOLID with great taste but dressing was mediocre. Warning - it's very generous! Overall, I'd give this a solid 3.5-3.75 experience. My girlfriend and I came here for drinks on our first night in Sunriver. We thought about getting food but we were on the fence - we weren't that hungry. The prices of everything was so outrageous for what you appeared to be getting, so we opted for just drinks. You seat yourself and when we sat down, about 15 minutes went by without being greeted by anyone. I went to the bar to order our drinks and ask for menus. The bartender/server (whatever her role was), was polite and said she'd come over right away. We got our menus and ordered our drinks, but never saw our server again. She never came back to ask if we wanted another round of drinks or see if we wanted food. I decided to close out or tab at the bar so we could find dinner elsewhere. Two stars because the view is nice and they had every playoff sports game that was on. -UPDATE- We came back the next night and met with a group of people who already had a table. The experience the second time was much worse. We never got served and the server never came by the table after we got there. My girlfriend and I decided to go to the bar to order our drinks. At the bar, were three employees talking about how late it was and wishing all of the customers left and complained about how many people were in the restaurant. I rarely send food back but I refused to pay 24 dollars for two rows of what looked like the same kind of salami, a sweaty square of cheese and huge pile of blue cheese that looked like it had been rejected from a salad bar. We were seated quickly outside and the view is one to remember! Our server was very prompt and thoughtful throughout service. Only issue I had was that I had to send the Mai-Tai I ordered back because the juice had gone bad. It was quickly fixed! But that has rarely happened in my vast experience...so someone should keep a closer eye on that. I ordered the fish and chips and shared a pretzel, both were so delicious! You don't need dip for the pretzel BTW! The halibut and tarter sauce for the was out of this world good! All this being said...the prices are completely out of control. My wife and I went there tonight for a date and had an awful experience, I would say "bad" service except there was no service at all! We got seated right away and sat at our table for around 20-30 min and nobody addressed us, no water, anything. We had around 6 people walk by us and even looked at us including the manager but nobody said a thing. It felt like they didn't want us there. I usually don't write long reviews unless it's absolutely necessary. However, I felt like I need to write a long review this time because I think the 1 star ratings are unfair for this restaurant. I gave this place a five-star rating because I enjoyed their drinks, food, service, and the ambiance. Keep in mind that this restaurant belongs to the Sunriver Resort. It practically is located in the middle of nowhere, unless you're counting a handful of all American restaurants/bars in the nearby Village or if you're willing to drive to Bend for more options. During our visits this year, we had their fish and chips (must try) and the Lodge burgers. If you like beer battered fish, you have to try this. The batter was always cooked to perfection, the batter was crunchy/crispy on the outside and the inside was cooked completely (there was no wet dough). The fish and batter ratio was perfect, too. There was a lot of fish. When ordering the burger, I added bacon and a fried egg. I liked the burger so much because I could taste the charred meat. Last but not least, the cocktails were also tasty and strong. Don't forget to order desserts. I especially liked their crème brûlée. We were lucky to get the same waitress for our dinner visits. I think her name is Ann. She was very sweet and attentive. Well, the service we received from other staff was decent, too. No complaints. Prices were decent for a resort restaurant. read more

We have eaten at Sunriver resort on a number of occasions. We are locals and in the past I've enjoyed the service and food immensely. We went to Owls Nest for an early dinner on Thursday around 5. While food was excellent as always, service person was inattentive and it took forever to get a couple of market salads and a glass of wine. We are talking about 40 minutes and they were not busy. I believe they were understaffed which is a common problem these days. Very disappointing since we are accustomed to better from Sunriver. For $90 plus tip we expect better. One of the absolutely worst dining experiences we have ever had and me and the missus have eaten out a lot on this planet. First off, those prices! $10 for a pint of beer? And everything on the menu is at least $10 over what you would pay anywhere else in Sunriver. For example, the $25 (!!) fried chicken sandwich that inspired this review: first time is comes out, it's not golden brown and delicious, no, it's just brown and overfried. No matter, it happens, send it back. And we wait. And we wait. Now half an hour, our new sandwich comes out and now it's pink in the middle. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. If the kitchen is either that incompetent or vindictive, we won't make the mistake of eating here ever again. Not at these prices. For $25, a chicken sandwich should come to the table doing a song-and-dance number and fifteen minutes of decent standup comedy. The real kicker is after that disappointment we later decided to try to get a pretzel ... an $18 (!!!) pretzel to go, yeah, sure ready in 10 minutes. Half an hour later we had a pretzel that was lukewarm and, you guessed it, overcooked. If you are staying at the Sunriver Lodge, they know they have you captive and you will probably suck it up, pay the "we-can-charge-as-much-as-we-want" tax and eat at either the Owl's Nest or the other restaurant that uses the exact same kitchen. However, there are so many other good restaurants a short drive or shuttle ride away; Cafe Sintra, Marcello's, and Sunriver Brewing just to name a few, where you will get a quality meal for LITERALLY half the price. When I did complain to one server, she offered to have the manager call me. Sure, what the heck, here's my digits. Did I ever hear from said manager? I'll let you guess. DO NOT eat at the Owl's Nest. My husband and I have gone to Twisted River many times for beer and food and have always enjoyed both. Every year Twisted River (Destinations Resorts, now Hyatt) have a special for locals in Sunriver, these specials have always been really good. Our favorite has been the fried chicken, with 2 large flavorful crispy pieces of chicken, a freshly baked scone, and yummy cold slaw. So all these ads have been out how they have started up the local special again. We went tonight looking forward to a great meal, instead...we each got 2 very small non seasoned pieces of overly fried chicken, and a square biscuit that was still frozen on the inside. Would of made a great hockey puck, but not so for eating. I asked for a new hockey puck and was insured that it would be hot. Well ok I got slightly warm, but hey...we paid only, $17 each!! coronel sanders is sounded real good right now. Hyatt Resorts trying to rip off the locals.
