Very SLOW service. Look, we are on vacation and not in a hurry but waiting 45 minutes for an appetizer (bucket of fries) is ridiculous. All told it took our family 2 hours to eat dinner. Expensive Red Robin type food. Small, limited, and boring menu. Food was just meh. No one finished their meal and no one was bragging about their food. Had to ask for refills on drinks several times. Had To get up and get a salt and pepper shaker off another table after our server failed to return to check on us after having our meals delivered. Both this restaurant and Carson's across the way were half full. Now I know why. Lots of better places to eat in the nearby village. Order IN THE CORRECT SEQUENCE, and check your bill! My wife and I were biking in Sunriver and decided to stop by for a bite to eat, as were only slightly hungry. While I was away from the table washing up, my wife ordered a sandwich ($18) to split. It comes with a choice of one side dish. "Can we choose truffle fries as the side dish?" "No." "Well, okay, we'll have the truffle fries and the regular fries. Do you have kombucha?" "No." "Decaf iced tea?" "No." "I guess we'll stick with water." The waitress brought the two orders of fries and sandwich. Then she brought the bill. They charged $4 extra for the truffle fries and $6 extra for the regular fries, for a total of $28. "Are truffle fries $10?" "No, they're about $7." "Then why isn't the bill $25?" (Sandwich and side for $18 + $7 for truffle fries.) "I rang it up as cheapest way I could." "But, but... if regular fries are a side dish choice, why the extra charge for them?" "I'll go and check for you." Waitress comes back with the $28 charged to my card. "That's how this order gets rung up. I didn't know. Thanks for bring it to my attention." (Note here that the $28 total is still in effect, so thanks for what??). There are a few possible explanations here: 1)Twisted River is hoping its diners don't really look at the bill; 2) Twisted River will exploit a possible misstep in the sequence of ordering to squeeze a few extra dollars from its diners; 3) Management cannot think straight or do simple arithmetic; 4) Ditto the waitress. Good time and connection to our past. Sunriver Lodge is magnificent! We had lunch on Christmas Eve. Split fish and chips (added a forth piece of fish and extra slaw). The classic meal was very good. Just had a terrible experience at Sunriver Lodge's Owl's Nest. The food was awful. We sent back uncooked onion rings. The next batch was so oily we couldn't eat it. Next we had a bowl of chowder that took over 45 minutes to arrive. Needless to say we were very disappointed and won't be returning. read more

Our first time at this resort and day 1 is amazing and Owl nest has been the best thing of the day. Caesar salad was soo bomb, the piece of anchovy was the perfect touch. I moved on to my friend chicken sandwich and man the breading was crispy but soft crispy -- but perfect. And the huge pieces of bacon paired great. Meal was yummy. A little disappointed. It's labor day, one of their busiest weekends of the year I'm sure. Way Understaffed. This place advertises (the resort) to come and play and relax. The restaurant has 3/4 of the tables empty because they have nobody to work. Is this the new norm? We came here for dinner on our recent trip to Sunriver. This was our first time in many trips eating at one of the lodge restaurants. The atmosphere was beautiful and the Owl's Nest is kind of an upscale bar. Unfortunately the food was pretty underwhelming for the price. The pretzel with beer cheese for $18 had a small condiment cup of cheese; we requested additional and they were happy to oblige. My drink was in a small cocktail glass with a giant ice cube, it was strong, but cost $18 as well. I had a steak salad and asked for the steak to be cooked medium. When the salad came out, it was very small for the $30 price and the steak was completely well-done. While the service was great, it was hard to justify spending over $115 for something that was underwhelming bar food. read more

Ate at owls nest and had terrible service. I ordered a Dr Pepper and my husband received two of his alcoholic drinks from the bar before I received a soda. I ordered their chicken sandwich and when it got to our table the bun was extremely soggy. Above average food in a warm welcoming ski lodge atmosphere is the best way to describe this place. We arrived after a very long day in the car driving across the state to Sunriver Resorts. Seeking a casual place for a bite, we opted to stay on property and give the Twisted Tavern a whirl. It really did meet expectations. I was able to order a bottle of Pinot Noir from the wine list at the adjacent restaurant since the wine by the glass menu was limited and not up to my standards. The waitress was happy to oblige and we took the remainder of the bottle back to our room after dinner. My husband snacked on some marinated olives and a fish taco entree which was nicely done. Spicy, fresh ingredients. My salmon over arugula was a bit more basic, but it did hit the spot despite its lack of creativity and rudimentary plating. The star of the show was for certain the make-your-own ice cream cookie sandwich. Two giant homemade chocolate chip cookies with a choice of vanilla or chocolate ice cream coated with a variety of toppings. We opted for chocolate ice cream with crushed butterfinger on the outside. Heaven! So good in fact that my husband ordered that same dessert late night to go a few nights later. Twisted Tavern is mediocre at best, but hits some surprising high notes with service that aims to please and basic American fare. And if you're staying at the resort it is just too darn convenient not to stay on property and enjoy some drinks and a light bite here. Our Food: Sunriver burger with a Fried Egg (really good burger, cooked to perfection, fresh made bun was soft and wonderful) Halibut Fish and Chips (BEST Fish and Chips I've ever had!) These fish and chips were perfect, moist flaky halibut, not over cooked and crunch beer batter. Seriously, best I've ever had. Service: Our Server was James T. Nice kid! Very friendly and attentive. I'll echo some of the other reviews (and wish I had checked before eating here). It would be one thing if the food was great, but it's not. It's mediocre at best, which definitely makes it feel not worth the price (and it is expensive, too expensive for what you get). My wife ordered the crab Mac and cheese, which came with very little crab and was almost soupy instead of creamy. I ordered the chicken pot pie, but a better description of this dish would be bowl-of-creamy-chicken-soup with a biscuit on top. There was no pie. Both of these dishes were in excess of $30, which is one thing if you're in a big city where things are priced like this, but in Central Oregon a $30+ dish should be way better. You can get a pre made chicken pot pie from Costco and feed your entire family with it for less than $30, and would have been 10x better than what they served. On the plus side, the service was good. read more

A Sunriver gem that seems to be in disarray. No doubt that it's no easy feat to keep pace with a seasonal business but this resort is too big and too well known to be run this poorly. On the positive side, the bartenders and servers are doing a good job trying to put a good face on things. The location is iconic and the energy is enjoyable. Bad news- the specialty drinks seem to be tripping up the bartenders. Service very slow. We came in for beers, salads and soup/sandwich. Dinner took 2 hrs. Got 1st round of drinks after a 15 min wait. Took another 10 to order. Unfortunately food took another 35 minutes. Soup and salad mind you. They evidently burned the grilled cheese and overcooked the protein on the salad. When food finally came out it came out piece meal. While we were waiting we asked for a second round of beers (2 of us). That took another 10 minutes. Whole meal was a hot mess. To their credit they did take two of the items off the ticket. Truthfully though The Whole meal should have been compd. My true hope is that it's a 1 year temporary setback (yep summer not much better). They always get fun people in there to work and what a beautiful spot. But they need management help read more

I'm disgusted by the poor reviews, when this is not just about the food. This is a lovely setting with beautiful views and a variety of offerings. Horrific Experience. This should be your LAST choice for a group dinner at Sunriver. Made TWO calls beforehand to ensure my party of 15 would be seated at ONE low rise table.. only to arrive to be towels we would be split up at several high rise tables. This would not work for my elderly disabled mother... nor would two tables be a great 'group' night out dinner experience. Seemingly NO attempt to accommodate us.. ended up split up with one high table and one low table.. ~10 feet apart. Poor service, with multiple issues with standard (no edits to menu). orders. For example.. fish and chips delivered to table without fries. Really?? As a courtesy for bad experience, was offered a complimentary $9 to-go dessert off my $900 bill. This place is really pathethic. Was there with a small group and were ignored by 3 people we flagged down to try and get drinks and menus. After 25 minutes we ended up leaving and going into Sunriver Village. We decided to eat in the village or in Bend the rest of the time and spent $0 at this terrible place. We talked with other guests who experienced the same thing. Seems this is standard for the place. This is the single worst resort restaurants and bars we have ever been to. The pandemic short menu definitely elevated twisted river into the fine dining category for the time being. We had a group of five and we're our server's only table while we were there. The crab stuffed salmon was absolutely decadent. The salmon was poached and the crab was nice and creamy. The Buerre Blanc and butternut squash purée on the side made for a fantastic flavor profile. I also got some mashed potatoes that were pretty good but honestly about 50% butter. All in all a very satisfying and enjoyable night out to eat. read more

So after having spent four nights at the Sun River resort, the wife, grand baby and I decided to eat the shareable menu at the Twisted Tavern. Now just for clarification, when I say shareable menu, I'm not talking family style, but all appetizers, that the wife and I share. So the first on the list is my wife's favorite and that's the fried pickles. Now most places do the pickle chips. Not here. They actually do pickle spears. And they are fantastic. The pickle remains crisp, while not getting the breaking soggy. In addition the breaking is light yet very flavorful. They are awesome! We then tried the fried wings. These are you traditional wings, and I mean wings, no drums. And that's fine. Three wonderful sauces being the umami, buffalo and chipotle ranch. All of the sauces are worth a dip. Good flavor. Next was the bucket of fries with the maple bacon aioli. This stuff is simply amazing and one could eat literally a quart of this stuff! Absolute amazing flavor and worth eating almost anything with this sauce. Never even touched the ketchup with this stuff. Finally, came the duck nuggets. This is something that I have never had before, so we had to try. The lightly breaded dark meat mini bites were packed pull of flavor. Add to it that you dip these wonderful little bites in the umami house made sauce, which you could taste a bit of ginger, soy and some other sauce which we couldn't quit put or finger on but didn't care, these are a fantastic treat that you must try if you ever stop here at Sunriver. Oh man, if you're going to come here, be prepared. The world is still picking itself back up post-COVID and this resort and restaurant is no exception. The staff and serving crew are friendly and attentive, but they are so short staffed. Our poor server had tables all throughout the room. It was no surprise that our entrees arrived cold, overly salted, and just plain miserable. We ate it, as much as we could, because we didn't want to send it back and just waste it, but it was bad. I'm almost certain my chicken wasn't prepared on-site. So, while it's good to get back out and support our businesses, just remember to be kind, patient, ready to eat what gets served. Unfortunately, with all the trips out to Sunriver and Bend, there are just too many other good places to eat to consider this tavern again for a long time. read more

I have been coming to the Sunriver Owls Nest (now the Twisted River Tavern) for 30 years and am heartbroken. The food is still good, albeit overpriced, but the bar service has dropped off the face of the earth. We were 2 of 6 people sitting at the bar and it took 15 minutes to order a drink!!! In contrast, I am currently sitting in a bar & grill in the Portland airport and one (1) bartender is competently handling 20 people at the bar and a full (60+) seated section. Stayed here for a weekend getaway and would have loved to dine here all weekend but the food here and at Carson's was sub par especially for the price. They should have a fine dining experience if they are going to charge fine dining prices. DO NOT order the calamari it is the most salty disgusting thing on the menu, trout was decent but and spinach and vegetables were drenched in oil and inedible. Steak frites chewy and ok but again more like bar food for 3x the price. Go to Sunriver brewery a bike ride away and the food is exceptional and half the price. read more

Arrived yesterday for an annual summer conference with great friends and colleagues and gathered in the old Owl's Nest, now Twisted River Tavern, starting about 2pm. We had an attentive but not obtrusive server, Jordan, and this review in no way reflects on him - we thought he was great! The food was also decent - we noshed on various small plates (try the salmon skewers) over the course of 5 hours or so. The place was fairly empty when we were first there and got a little busier as the dinner hour approached. Several groups of 4 were seated near us and we noted that they weren't necessarily ordering large amounts of food or drink. On the other hand, our ordering remained consistent, particularly with significant amounts of alcohol - bottles of wine and cocktails - we had between 4-8 people total with us over that span of time. In a resort setting, I have never been made to feel uncomfortable for lingering in what had been viewed as more of a lounge setting. However, the host, Brandon, accomplished that in one fell swoop. He approached our table not once but twice, looking somewhat distressed. He actually asked "How much longer are you going to be, I need your table" (there were other available tables in the restaurant). After a few glasses of wine, I responded, "well, if you have a table up in the bar area and would like to buy us our next round, we would be happy to move." He declined and wandered away. We stayed about a half hour longer and even joked with Jordan about the interaction. He was apologetic and continued to provide excellent service, but the damage had been done and we wrapped up, paid our bill that was over $700, and left for the night. This is a lovely bar and restaurant with beautiful outside seating (if COVID and smoke allow). I know everyone is short-handed right now so no complaints on service. The food, however, is limited and average. It's not bad but it is certainly nothing special. As a local, I am proud of what a beautiful resort Sunriver is and I want them to be successful. But we only went to the lodge last night because our first three restaurant choices were unavailable. And that is simply because the food is just so-so. The fact that it was the only restaurant that had space is telling and I think if the food was exceptional, it would be packed like other restaurants are. read more

Anyway, I was expecting a little more for $19 but was so disappointed. The club (which I split with my hubby) was so lacking in flavor. The fries were great but they put cloves in their catsup around here at all the restaurants in the area and it just tastes weird. The Ruben which my in laws split looked good but they said it wasn't the same as they remember when it was a different restaurant. We've been coming here forever and they owned a condo here for almost 30 years. I get that prices go up. But $20 for a sandwich and fries at lunch?? They are pretty proud of their menu. My suggestion would be to at least lower your lunch menu or like us, people will try it once and if it's not a $19 memorable sandwich, they'll try down the street next time. I dig the atmosphere of this place, which resides within the resort that appears to have been built in the 1970s. Nice big windows that provide a lovely view of the resort area, very woodsy tavern feel. I had their spinach salad, which was wonderful. Perfect dressing amount, tasty pickled onions, nuts and cheese. Spinach was fresh as well. I paired it with their bread, which comes nicely toasted and perched in some oil and vinegar. Yum! I would have given more stars, but my simple salad and bread were $20, which is a lot for a simple meal. I know this is a resort and therefore, everything must be overpriced, but yeesh, it's a freakin' salad, yo. Overall, I'd eat at this place again if I'm at the resort and don't want to drive through the confusing maze of roundabouts into town. read more
