Amazing chocolate croissant and American. The staff are helpful and the music is enchanting and not overly loud! Love this plac

Aside from the fact that the owner contacted me to offer to make amends for the bum loaf I got, I'm happy to upgrade my review for a number of reasons. The owners amends was very generous and the replacement Sesame Loaf I got was delicious. However, when I picked it up, I decided to try their tuna sandwich. It was amazing, and gets my vote for best tuna sandwich on the planet. Also, the staff and manager were gracious and great about the whole thing.

This place literally became my addiction while I was in town. Incredible staff, a clean location, and just delicious products. OK, let's talk pastry. The Kouign Amann is basically a croissant that has been pressed into what looks like a large muffin tin, but has vanilla sugar poured on top of it while baking. This creates a crispy sugar shell on the outside, and a soft delicate croissant dough on the inside. It's topped with a little bit of sea salt. It is just such a delightful mix of flavors and textures that I found myself absolutely loving this thing. The Marion Berry scone was absolutely wonderful. I eat a lot of scones, and one of my biggest complaint is when someone uses the wrong kind of flour and it turns into a tough scone. These guys actually knew what they were doing. The scone was crispy on the outside thanks to a sugar glaze, and soft and crumbly on the inside. It was absolutely incredible and wonderfully enjoyable. Then there was the almond croissant. This was my least favorite. While their croissant dough is good, I'm not particularly happy with the amount of almond paste, or its composure. I think this one is really hard to get right, and I'm always torn between people that put a smear like this business does, and other others that just mix it into the dough. Either way it was enjoyable, just a little different than what I would typically expect from an almond croissant. Lastly, the gluten-free sourdough. This was actually the best gluten-free sourdough I've ever eaten. Usually gluten-free bread is gummy on the inside and Baker's really struggle to get the texture right. But they absolutely nailed it. Not only was the crumb beautiful and open, but the bread didn't seem overly dense for a gluten-free bread. Don't get me wrong it was a little dense because it's gluten-free, but it was lighter than most gluten-free bread. All in all, this place has become my guilty pleasure and I look forward to going back.

Located in the Old Mill Shops area with convenient (ish) parking and easy access, owned by a young husband and wife who first met working at Four Seasons in Scottsdale and with a menu and vibe that hints in a delicious way at his home country of Mexico. We loved this little bakery when we popped in one morning to pick up take away to treat ourselves and a friend in Bend during a visit in April. Taking the time to post my comments now, in advance of our next visit this week, as sort of counterpoint to some 'foot stomping' lower starred reviews awarded because the bakery sometimes sells out of products earlier than some customers think is appropriate. Yep, that will happen a young owner run bakery when they are starting out because the closer they get to that scratch-zero inventory left at the end of the day, the better it is for their bottom line and ability to stay in business in early days. Given this brick and mortar has only been in place six months, although their wares have been available at some retailers like Market of Choice for a while before that, it seems reasonable that they are still learning how much to bake levels. I get it. GOOD EATS: There is much to enjoy here and we liked every pastry of the five kinds we took with us to share. (They make a version of Kouign Amann, a fav of ours, and may be the only place in Bend that does.) We also enjoyed the olive bread, if you want them to slice it you'll have to wait until after XX:00 because it needs to be completely cool out of the oven before they can, so we took our loaf to go. The biggest surprise is they have wonderful salads (the two we took to go easily fed three people at lunch) and we learned that when we pivtoed after the little surprise that they didn't offer sandwiches on their bread, a la Sparrow Bakery or Village Baker. If that's what you want, you'll need to hit up one of those others. And while we waited on our to go order to be packaged up and the salads to be made we also enjoyed a good cortado along with the Mexican vibe music of just the right mix for a morning visit. SERVICE: Really friendly counter service. And given the ability to see into the baking space from the front windows, it looks as if they are providing employment for several local people to participate in that craft. BEND "CRED": My husband and I started being visitors to Bend in the later 1980's, moved there in the later 1990's and lived there until ten'ish years ago when we left to escape the tourists (yes, I realize I may be talkin' to you as I type this :-) ) and winter snow that doesn't play well with the multiple sclerosis I've had since college years. But we still visit often since my parents lived there up until my dad's death last year. So we know a thing or several about Bend bakeries and we were long time fans of a couple of Bend's great ones in the day; Sparrow, which is still there and as better than ever, and Village Baker, which is still there but lost its' consistent quality and service luster when the founder / baker had to leave after a divorce. (That bakery is for sale right now, btw.) We remember both of those in their just starting out days too and when they sold out of something before we got to the counter, we did not stomp our feet. Nor would we do it here. Just sayin'. Different perspectives or different customers. SEATING: Standard height table seating that is accessible to everyone inside, also high counter seats at front window. Looked as if there might be seating at outside rear patio. LOO: There is one and it is uni. ACCESSIBILITY: ADA parking space in front of the building (more are across the street), level in from sidewalk to bakery and all on one floor inside. Loo is accessible too.

Great service, friendly staff! Ordered egg sandwich. Egg sandwich bread was great. Eggs were good- didn't blow my mind but I liked all the other accoutrements. I was wishing for more sauce and veggies to balance the giant amount (in a good way) of eggs. Coffee was really good.

Delicious new bakery. Tried a chocolate croissant and latte both very tasty. Not a lot of seating. I've been told arrive early if you want a pastry. Arrived 30 minutes after they opened and there was not an open seat. Very popular since its new spot. Just be prepared to not find a seat or wait for one to open up.

Avocado toast, Ham & Cheese Croissant, and the day of the dead bread

The avocado toast was sooo good & coffee was great too! Super nice inside seating and ambiance. The only bad part was I wouldn't order a croissant again because they are COLD, we got a ham and cheese croissant, and the cheese was hard and the ham was cold. They said they don't them up because it ruins the consistency of the croissant. Overall most everything was great, but I wouldn't recommend any pastries unless they start to heat them up or keep them in a food warmer, especially when it's SO cold in Bend!

Seasonal cruffin (has pistachio) and seasonal danish (espresso cream and Carmel)

My pal and I love to go here! It's one of our favorite bakeries in town since they opened. The pastries are always perfect, recommend coming earlier than later in the day since they do bake fresh daily and have a limited supply. Always so pleased with the positive atmosphere and kind staff. Never once had a bad experience here. Also love their coffee, I usually get a latte or a mocha and it's perfect every time. If you haven't been here yet it's a must!

My favorite bakery in town! Wow! I look forward to my weekly pastry from the farmers market and I can't wait to visit them at their new retail location in the Old Mill. Their breads are delicious and they even have some gluten free treats Such a sweet couple, welcome to Bend! We are so lucky to have you here

The best Sourdough bread I have ever eaten. Im feeling a little guilty as I have eaten an entire loaf myself in four days! Avocado toast, egg salad toast, peanut butter toast, spinach and artichoke toast, and butter toast! I couldn't get enough of it! lol. Im looking forward to trying their sandwiches.

I previously tried consigning at their other location in town and was told they were booked out months in advance--and that I'd need to log on the moment appointments opened just to secure a spot. That level of rigidity for a consignment shop is absurd and should have been my warning sign. I decided to try their other location and am equally appalled. Similarly, I had to make an appointment just to consign items. Then I had to rearrange my work schedule to accommodate an assigned appointment to pick up unsold items, which was not chosen by me but instead just delegated to me. I showed up on time, only to be met with dismissive, flippant indifference from staff. Despite having a scheduled appointment to collect unsold items, I was told I couldn't consign additional items during that appointment--but could come back later (literally 45 minutes later) to do so with NO ONE else in the shop. I was also told I could come back yet again, in a different visit, to pick up a check for my sold items. How many separate trips am I expected to make for one transaction? Their entire process is wildly inefficient and completely disrespectful of customers' time. You're limited in how many items you can bring, the drop-off windows are narrow and rigid, and even if your items are in-season and in great condition, they can still be rejected based on their inventory. And after spending hours of my life arranged around their schedule, the payout is a complete joke. I was told I'd be receiving $38 total despite consigning multiple items, including a Michael Kors purse, with zero transparency around how that number was calculated. When I asked for an itemized breakdown, they had to log into yet another system and told me they'd send a link so that I could jump through yet more hoops to learn what each item sold for. Unsurprisingly, that link never came. To make matters worse, they couldn't even issue a check on the spot and instead claimed it would be mailed. That was four weeks ago--I still haven't received anything. So after rearranging my schedule, making multiple unnecessary trips, and dealing with their disorganized process and rude staff, I have exactly zero dollars to show for it. Between the lack of organization, constant "we need to log into another system" excuses, restrictive and inconvenient policies, and the irreverent staff, this business operates in a way that feels intentionally opaque and financially unfair to its customers. Bend is absolutely due for an ethical, flexible consignment shop that actually values its customers--because this place clearly does not. I strongly recommend others think twice before trusting this shop with their items.

Although clearly a trade supply store and some things (as in glassware and dishes and flatware) are only sold in gross quantities , it is open for sales to the public and there are things here that home cooks can buy in singles that might come in handy. As example, on our most recent visit we purchased more of our fav things to buy at Bargreen...stainless steel whisks of various sizes in good quality at a fraction of the price of other retail. (We've given a number of these away and hence the return for more.) We also picked up a single muddler of pretty decent quality from the bar section. As another example, if you were in the market for a big plastic, food quality storage tub in which to brine a holiday turkey, this would be the place to find one at a decent price. Or a REALLY big, unbreakable, salad bowl to take that salad for 30 to the school potluck at a price point that wouldn't break the bank if it wasn't returned. Located in the building originally constructed a couple of years ago to house Austin Tile, a great business now sadly defunct due to Bend's recession, as you enter from the private parking lot (hooray - ample parking) you'll note all the stonework on the building exterior and a massive high ceilinged lobby with a sort of spiral staircase up to the second floor. (If you're not able to climb stairs, have no worries...there is an elevator at the rear of the first floor...with nicely mosaic tiled walls to remind us all of the original tile company.) In our experience, there has always been a very helpful someone at the front desk to ask if you're looking for something specific and to point you in that direction, or to invite you to wander if that's what you are there to do. Maybe it's just us, but our recent visit to Bargreen's it seemed darker, less well stocked and overall less "zing" than on earlier visits. Bargreen's seemed to show the impact of the economic slowdown in Bend. Hard to fathom as even now restaurants seem to be opening and closing and changing hands at a pretty good clip in this tourist fueled city of about 80,000 people. But maybe the restaurant ownership changes mean old existing equipment and materials get recycled not purchased new. The second floor is where the restaurant specific glassware, dishware, furniture and accent "stuff" (like menu covers) are displayed. The first floor houses bar supplies, janitorial supplies and a plethora of kitchen use / cookware of all knds. It's probably the second floor more than the first that shows the "bloom off the rose" these days. We are people who can easily entertain ourselves for long periods by looking about in well stocked cooking stores, even in smaller stores like the delightful Ginger's on Bend's westside or the kitchen / baking section of Newport Avenue Market. We go in for one thing, and end up browsing to find something else useful. When we travel, cooking stores (and great grocery stores for that matter) are destination stops for us. We had quite a lot of fun exploring Bargreens when they first opened in Bend...but now it's a place where we are on a hunt for something specific, we get it and leave. But three stars means AOK after all, and while we recognize we are not their target market, Bargreens is that for us as home cooks. .

I looked around for something similar, but less the cardamon and came across Cafe des Chutes. We visited at 9 am on a Sunday and it wasn't too crowded at all, with only a single person ahead. They have plenty of seating and I think most people decide to eat their treats in the cafe; we had to hit the trail though, so we got ours to go to eat while hiking. Mango Sticky Rice Honey Glazed Croissant ($6.25) - Woah, this is an exceptionally sticky pastry, so sticky it's actually a little cumbersome to eat since the glaze spreads on any surface it touches and becomes very difficult to remove. The glaze tastes just like fresh honey - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it were mostly honey. There's not much mango flavor until closer to the center, along with another flavor of something very fragrant almost flowery They sprinkle coconut flakes on top, giving a somewhat fruity flavor. The croissant itself is very good - great crust, nicely flaky and crisp with a great texture on the interior, chewy and airy. The lamination seems to be good based on a cursory inspection, but I didn't have a sharp bread knife on me for a clean cut as I usually do. The pastry is very sweet and the glaze covers up the flavor of the croissant entirely. (5/5) Oregon Roll ($6.25) - This base, on the other hand, is really buttery, combining the great lamination, crispy and flaky, with great flavor. There's a fantastic honeycomb texture on the inside combined with the perfect chewiness. They do add a marionberry swirl on the interior, which is pretty obviously included in terms of color, but can't really be tasted on top of the croissant butteriness. On top, they spread a spiced hazelnut glaze, sweet and nutty, almost like peanut butter in texture mixed with butter. Delicious pastry overall. (5/5) Savory Bread Pudding ($10) - This is a super dense and heavy (in weight) bread pudding baked in a muffin mold. They offer to heat it up and it's a really good idea to eat this warmed. We opted to get it cold since we weren't going to eat it for a couple of hours (for a picnic lunch) and it basically wasn't edible, with super dense, bitter and stale tasting bread, making it hard to even stick a fork into the top. We ended up waiting until we got to the hotel room to heat it up the next morning for breakfast, which made it much more palatable. There's some mushroom essence with tons of black pepper and a dense yet pleasingly chewy bread. Cheese is baked on top and there's a little vegetal bitterness from spinach. Not rating this since we ate it the next day. Overall I enjoyed my treats from Cafe des Chutes. I would visit again the next time I'm in Bend. Bathrooms - Tiny room near the front. The water heater takes up some of the space inside, so it's quite warm in the room
