I read someone's review about how this place rivaled the pastries in France- so I had to try it…read more I've never been to France, but I haven't had better French pastries. Oh my lanta! I got the pistachio seasonal pastry, a croissant and a monkey bread. It was all good, but the monkey bread was divine. Never had a better version. I'll dream about it for sure. Can't wait to come back!

Bakeries were seemingly on every other block and I knew that I was going to do some serious damage to my expectations upon my return to Bend. I am happy to report that M's is my new daily destination for pastries at the Old Mill. This is a bakery that could compete with the best pattiseries and boulangeries in Paris. They offer croissants, almond croissants, chocolate croissants, seasonal chuffins, ham & cheese croissants, monkey bread, kougi amann, blueberry muffins, gluten-free cookies, and more. I always leave with one or two boxes full of treats. I've tried their olive sourdough, which I found to be excellent, if albeit pricey-enough to make it a rarer purchase for me. They have an excellent selection of coffees, as you'd expect. But the thing I must emphasize is that we have a bakery *right here* in Bend that could hold its own against the best in France! Highly recommended!

As soon as…read moreyou walk in the store the first thing your tempted with is a ton of local goodies from Sisters and beyond. Ton of specialty items I usually would have to trek into Newport Market for. The bakery had marionberry pies, there is a deli section, and they have organic options! Lots of fruits, veggies plus plenty of gluten free choices too. The store was really really clean with a nice atmosphere and similar aesthetic to Market of Choice but seems to provide more value and less stress. The best part was my cashier Judy! She was genuinely nice to me, I had a great customer service experience with her. She really made me feel that local true community feeling, honestly how it should be. She was so nice when I mentioned it was my first time - she truly authentically welcomed me with such a kind tone and even walked me through signing up for their points system (much better than Market of Choice coupons this actually adds up toward your grocery bill)!!! We chatted about the store and its history a bit which was cool. I walked away feeling like wow, that was a nice experience! Rare these days even in Bend. This is a sleeper hit for me and is going to be my new go to. I told her I will definitely be back and I will. Highly recommend, customer service means a lot to me and I truly had a positive experience.

The meat section was okay and can goods, but again no seafood section! Drinks from soda and alcohol items they carry a good variety. Besides grocery items. Parking is shared by all retailers in the shopping complex.

Bargreen Ellingson Restaurant Supply & Design - Lots of metal ware

Thank you Jamie for always being so helpful and working with me helping me find the right products…read morefor work. I know I can always count on you helping me!

Bargreen Ellingson is distributor of supplies and equipment to restaurants, bars, hotels,…read morejanitorial companies and caterers. The Bend store is one link in the national chain.. Although clearly a trade supply store and some things (as in glassware and dishes and flatware) are only sold in gross quantities , it is open for sales to the public and there are things here that home cooks can buy in singles that might come in handy. As example, on our most recent visit we purchased more of our fav things to buy at Bargreen...stainless steel whisks of various sizes in good quality at a fraction of the price of other retail. (We've given a number of these away and hence the return for more.) We also picked up a single muddler of pretty decent quality from the bar section. As another example, if you were in the market for a big plastic, food quality storage tub in which to brine a holiday turkey, this would be the place to find one at a decent price. Or a REALLY big, unbreakable, salad bowl to take that salad for 30 to the school potluck at a price point that wouldn't break the bank if it wasn't returned. Located in the building originally constructed a couple of years ago to house Austin Tile, a great business now sadly defunct due to Bend's recession, as you enter from the private parking lot (hooray - ample parking) you'll note all the stonework on the building exterior and a massive high ceilinged lobby with a sort of spiral staircase up to the second floor. (If you're not able to climb stairs, have no worries...there is an elevator at the rear of the first floor...with nicely mosaic tiled walls to remind us all of the original tile company.) In our experience, there has always been a very helpful someone at the front desk to ask if you're looking for something specific and to point you in that direction, or to invite you to wander if that's what you are there to do. Maybe it's just us, but our recent visit to Bargreen's it seemed darker, less well stocked and overall less "zing" than on earlier visits. Bargreen's seemed to show the impact of the economic slowdown in Bend. Hard to fathom as even now restaurants seem to be opening and closing and changing hands at a pretty good clip in this tourist fueled city of about 80,000 people. But maybe the restaurant ownership changes mean old existing equipment and materials get recycled not purchased new. The second floor is where the restaurant specific glassware, dishware, furniture and accent "stuff" (like menu covers) are displayed. The first floor houses bar supplies, janitorial supplies and a plethora of kitchen use / cookware of all knds. It's probably the second floor more than the first that shows the "bloom off the rose" these days. We are people who can easily entertain ourselves for long periods by looking about in well stocked cooking stores, even in smaller stores like the delightful Ginger's on Bend's westside or the kitchen / baking section of Newport Avenue Market. We go in for one thing, and end up browsing to find something else useful. When we travel, cooking stores (and great grocery stores for that matter) are destination stops for us. We had quite a lot of fun exploring Bargreens when they first opened in Bend...but now it's a place where we are on a hunt for something specific, we get it and leave. But three stars means AOK after all, and while we recognize we are not their target market, Bargreens is that for us as home cooks. .

But I am a coffee drinker. And Substance has a coffee shop set up as part of their operation, right next to their dispensary on Division. And Oh-Sweet-Jeezus, the Substance coffee shop brews up a great cup of java. All the baristas are good - really good, actually - but if you're lucky, Angela (the manager) will be behind the counter. Angela does a great pour over. Seriously, her pour overs are absolutely top notch. It's also possible that the weed is top notch. I wouldn't know. But the coffee? Dammmmmnnn good.

We were in the market for thc-infused lube and saw the perfect product, it was $36 and even had a sticker that said it would be $40 other places in town. We grabbed the lube, asked for a 25 mg limeade, and made our way to the register. We inquired if they had any first time discounts - of course not. It was far from the end of the world, considering they marketed themselves as affordable. We left the store and right as we entered our car learned that we had been given the lemonade instead, no biggie but not ideal. Then we made our way back to Tokyo Starfish. The vibes were immaculate compared to Substance. Here, we bought flower because we could actually see and smell the product, and then we stumbled across the exact same thc lube, for $24. What an absolute tragedy. Overall, the false advertisement, bad customer service, and unappealing display of products will prevent us from returning again. Tokyo Starfish has our business.

The Gala consisted of a DJ , a raffle, and about 48 dollars worth of Costco: cookies, crackers, pre-cut cheese, pre-cut pineapple and whole strawberries. No goody bag full of samples, no fragrance reps handing out samples. No glasses or champagne or plates of fresh shrimp. No Amazing Deals of combination sets of product offered at super prices.... For the first time in years I missed Seattle. Seattle, with its luscious event, spanning a significant portion of the floor, dotted with helpful, eager reps quick to proffer a lipstick sample, a perfume miniature... We were met with some store employee wearing what could only be described as an aging stewardesses dress, all orange, shouting over the DJ, "All I need is your name and number!', referring to the raffle tickets available for all... not just those who had tickets in advance. Apparently, this 'Gala' amounted to no more than a 15% off fragrance and beauty. For anyone passing through. We think the staff here at this Macy's misses the point. Especially distrustful employee at the Sunglass Hut here, more concerned with the whereabouts of certain pairs of sunglasses, we later realized that she was concerned we were lifting them? , firing questions at her colleague (before assisting us with procuring the product we were asking for), 'Where are the round ones?! Did you move the others?! Where did you put those other ones?!' Good God. This female employee was so concerned we were there to steal, even though we wore the VIP wrist bands (yeah, ha ha.). Later, we realized she was peering into our shopping bags AFTER we bought two pairs of sunglasses from her... sheesh. This store location does not represent the brand. Abysmal service from store clerk at one register, excellent customer service from Customer Service representative at another. At one register, we spent $278, this is how our purchases were packaged and handed to us.
