I used to come to this place often because it's the only place to get chicken and waffles in Austin. Other places may say they serve chicken and waffles, and the plates they serve you may have a piece of chicken and a waffle, but it's not chicken and waffles. So... they all suck and shouldn't even be considered chicken and waffles. You want chicken and waffles. Come to this place. It's not the cleanest, though. Sometimes the floor is pretty sticky as you walk through, or... seemingly to be contrarian sometimes I've felt it be slippery to the point where I walk lightly in fear of slipping and cracking my silly neck. Worth the risk for the chicken and waffles. The staff is hit or miss. I've sat there for 15 minutes without being helped and I've had fast, polite, awesome service on different occasions. Sometimes they talk to you with an attitude and sometimes you're their best friends and talk to you like family. It was worth the gamble for the chicken and waffles. What made me stop coming to this place is the music. While not quite my taste, it's tolerable, but IT IS LOUD. TOO LOUD. So loud, in fact, that my Apple Watch would warn me of harmful sound exposure every time I would eat there. I ride a motorcycle, so it's set to 100 decibels for a certain amount of time before it warns. A motorcycle engine revving is around 95 decibels, 100 decibels is a car horn. Came here on a Sunday afternoon with my sister who lives in Austin. I was visiting from Chicago. The service was top notch and the food was delicious. I had the fried chicken, Mac and cheese and collard greens. The chicken it was seasoned and fried perfectly. It's been awhile since I've had some good fried chicken. Chicken gizzards were deep fried with a nice batter. The fish fry had a nice light batter, and the fish was fresh, served on a piece of white bread. Chicken wings were so-so, as they were the only item that arrived room-temp/barely warm. Service: Friendly, and drinks were refilled throughout the meal. It did take a while for the food to appear, even though they were at 30% capacity. Cost: All the above and one ice tea cost about $44 after tax. Overall: Worth trying and going there every so often. Surprisingly when I came there was little to no wait during lunch time, but that may change as this place grows. You can either take out or dine in with open seating. Staff was very friendly and helped me find some options I'd enjoy. I ended going with a classic chicken and waffles. So good! Their chicken is southern style but not too greasy and just the right amount of crisp, fortunately they do have chicken buckets for you chicken lovers out there. Unfortunately I found the food to be severely lacking this time around. The greens were of the canned variety. Glory greens comes to mind. Filled with stem pieces. Barely any leafy greens to eat. The yams had a bitter almost sour taste to them. The catfish was good. However you receive a single fillet that had been cut in half. Not 2 whole fillets. Chicken was good as well. I would like to continue patronize this place of business, however I cannot justify the quality of food for the prices that are currently being charged. Per suggestion of my husband's hair braider we stopped by here to get a good old fashion fried food fixing. I was very happy to see gorgeous, smiling faces that took our order. Order was the first misunderstood but quickly rectified and food came out hot and delicious not greasy and not salty. The waffle is very tasty and a touch sweet so make sure you're ready for sugar. Frozen margaritas with a floater seem to be the go to for happy hour, however, as we were new we ended up getting regular drinks which definitely could've been stiffer. The establishment itself definitely is in order for minor repairs, overall maintenance and cleanliness but I did not become ill so I am not judging harshly. We have been meaning to try this place for a while and now now that it is a one and done for us. Our experience was not like the others I have read about. I struggled on giving this place a 1 or 2 stars. The waitperson came to our table to take our order, barely made eye contact. My BF asked how they compare to Roscoe's and she said "We are not on that level, there is no way to compare with Roscoe's". We ordered one house margarita, three sides and chicken & waffles. After she took our order she disappeared. 20 minutes later another waitperson looked over and asked if we had gotten the margarita yet. She smiled as if she already knew how green our waitperson was and she walked to the bar to place the order. 10 min later she came by again and saw that the margarita had not arrived and she hollered over to the bartender to make it. Shortly after our waitperson re-appeared to deliver the margarita and NEVER looked up or spoke to us. Instead, she placed the drink on our table and walked off in a hurry. The house margarita for $2 was decent and quite tart (which was a plus in my book). Three stars for the drink. About 10 min later our food arrived. If you add the time from above, you will see that it was abut 40 min after the order was placed and the restaurant was not busy (3 other tables, 1 of which already had food when we arrived). Chicken and Waffles were decent, definitely worthy of 3 stars. The collard greens and sweet potatoes were way too sweet and had too much all-spice (or similar), but I did not knock starts off for that because that is just my taste preference. The fried okra however....um turn up the heat on that fryer please. They were cooked to a golden crunchy light brown, but were in the fryer so long that they were full of grease. I had to blot them with several napkins first. I ate 1/2 the order and had to stop because the grease was too much. Later that night I regretted eating any of them. It felt like it took forever to get the non-eye contact making, absent and no personality waitperson to come back over to get our check so we could leave. read more

Horrible customer service and a lack of structure when it comes to orders. Apparently online orders come first. I chose to do take out and came in to place an order. I initially called ahead because the website says I can pre order. When I called a rude lady told me the new girl was late and she couldn't take my order. I arrived at 11am to place my order and as I wait it's 11:37am and I'm being told that they have a large phone order so my order is next. The bad: Food can be tasty but the presentation can almost make you feel like they don't care about your business. Tables are often sticky, and drinks are served in cloudy, dingy, plastic cups. That includes margaritas, and top shelf liquors. My photo is a perfect example - wings were delicious. But why two baskets? Why no celery or carrots, or blue cheese or ranch? First off we waited over a hour for two Togo orders. The greens were terrible / literally unable to eat them. No flavor, hard stems - they were not cooked through at all. The Mac is not cheesy - it's just pasta noodles. Lastly the rice was hard. Waiting over a Hr for such horrible food is unnecessary and unacceptable. The service was also horrible. Not friendly or welcoming at all. We were also told different wait times. One order came and we waited another 20 min for the 2nd one.
