I ordered the cubana with rice and a side of herb corn on the cob. My food was fine. The pickle on the cubana was very vinegar-y, which overpowered the sandwich. I still ate most of it though. The rice is good in a minimalist way. The corn was cooked okay but I'm not a fan of oil on my corn. I prefer butter. If I had just tried my food, I'd only give this place 3*. My boyfriend loved his food so much that I had to increase my star rating. It made me believe that I could've ordered something else that would've impressed me. He got the bbq bacon shrimp sandwich, by the way, and he raved about it. It's a glutinous "po boy." The place is tiny so we sat outside on bar stools at a counter that looks into the kitchen. It provided entertainment while we waited and ate our lunches. Also, it was easy to park because they have a small lot connected to the mini mall. I won't be back to this place soon. YUM! They have some of the best barbecue in San Diego! Whenever I come, I always go for the lamb lollipops. The rack of lamb is grilled and seasoned with spices and glazed with a balsamic reduction. They serve the lamb with coconut rice, which adds to the flavor combination. I haven't tried other items here, but everything smells and looks super good. read more

I have had this bookmarked for awhile and have been wanting to try this place due to all the good reviews, but... The flavor was ok, but everything seemed so overly greasy/buttery/oily. I had much higher expectations considering the previous reviews. It wasn't horrible, it was actually pretty good initially but post consumption was not a very good feeling for my stomach. I hate to say it but I honestly wanted to purge my stomach of this overly greasy sandwich. I went with the "best fork'n chicken sandwich ever", which I have to say did not live up to its name. We had a couple draft Stone Pales, and ordered the pork quesadilla, salmon tacos, and Ana's Code Blue burger. The pork in that quesadilla was so tender, and you can never go wrong with melted gouda. The salmon taco had a nice little kick (sweet sriracha), and the fish was still pretty juicy. And you gotta love a restaurant that can cook your burger medium rare. SO GOOD! AND - the sweet potato tots are actually sweet potato (not yam)! Ray and Craig are behind the glass, slaving away in that little kitchen, making magic happen. Such a nice comfy and relaxed vibe. This place is incredible!!! We stopped in to pick up food for friends coming over for lunch. I spotted the pork fried rice and couldn't not order it. I was the most incredible dish I've eaten. The pork was tender, the taste was savory and rich and it had a kick to it. Unreal, will never forget that taste. We also ordered the chicken tacos, the chicken caesar salad, the burger and the PIG!! Biggest pulled pork sandwich ever. This was definitely a foodie lover's haven and the staff was so friendly and helpful. I usually get the surf & turf grilled cheese or the bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp po' boy. The po' boy is delicious; I mean who doesn't like bacon? The surf & turf grilled cheese is also very good and filling, although sometimes I wish the cheese was more gooey/melty. They only offer mac salad, coconut rice, or quinoa salad as a side with burgers/sandwiches, so if you're looking for fries, you are out of luck. They do offer different specials on occasion which you can find on their menu board and sometimes on Facebook. They do offer beer and wine if you dine in. There are high top bar stools in the front so you can eat outside with your dog. It can get crowded though, so expect a wait on your food if you're ordering take-out. I've had to wait 30 minutes before, so call ahead if you can. read more

This place had significant hype, so we were expecting a lot when we ate here on a Friday night. Believe it, this place is legit. As many note, it's very small inside, probably around a dozen or so chairs. There are a couple of counters outside, so with those seats it may bring the overall total to 20. We found 2 initially, so we planned on having the wives sit and the husbands stand while we ate. Fortunately, the couple on the other side of us left just before our meal was delivered, so the 4 in our party were all able to sit down together. We shared the pork quesadilla to start. 6 pieces of quesadilla for $8.50, and they are jam packed full of pork. The level of smokiness in the pork reminds you of a BBQ pitmaster, yet this is just an appetizer at this joint. If they wanted, they clearly could make some quality BBQ. The gouda cheese goes wonderfully with the smokiness, as does the sour cream and hoisin sauce. Definite re-order. 2 of our 4 got the surf and turf grilled cheese: crab, pastrami, cheddar and provolone. First, this sandwich is large. Neither person finished it. Second, it is JUST SO FORKIN' GOOD. I can't believe how well these went together. I know a lot of yelpers have discussed how good this sandwich is, but I was still a little skeptical. They do not skimp on the ingredients at PF. The pastrami alone would have been enough for a sandwich. The sweet crab goes well with the cheese and the pastrami. And, it's all grilled perfectly on the flat top. This is just a winning sandwich, there's really not much else to say. I had the shrimp po' boy, which is stuffed with bacon wrapped shrimp. The shrimp is bacon wrapped because the people at PF find a way to make good stuff much better. Served on a large soft roll and covered with lettuce and sauce, this is another winner. It was slightly messy, but that's totally fine. The mess is due to them providing you with a lot of ingredients. The shrimp are not overcooked, which I was worried about. Sometimes in order to fully cook the bacon, you have to overcook the thing it's wrapped around. Not here, both meats were completely cooked but the shrimp still retained some juiciness. This is another absolute re-order. The prices for what you get at this place are out of this world reasonable. I'm both excited and bummed I found it so early in my stay in La Jolla. On the one hand, I clearly loved it and it lives up to the considerable hype. The website and self-proclamation of being a "foodie joint" is a bit misleading. Their brick and mortar menu is comprised mostly of sandwiches and burgers. The flavors are island-inspired with the liberal use of hoisin, coconut, and garlic in many of their dishes. Despite some nice features of the restaurant like the open-air garage counter and the bamboo-lined ceiling, the bar and big screen behind it cheapened the atmosphere a bit. Some of the dishes with salad or rice were served on paper plates. I guess the best description would be a Hawaiian hole-in-the-wall. The menu items were bold in flavor, but not in a good way. Let's start off with the good. My favorite was the kailua pork quesadillas. The smoked pork and caramelized onions were awesome, but the tortilla was burnt and became soggy. For lunch, I tried the surf & turf grilled cheese. This is just one surf and turf combination that should never happen. The pastrami overwhelmed the crab, and when you did taste the crab, it was more fishy than enjoyable. The side of jalapeno-coconut rice was too spicy. The best forkin' chicken sandwich, which was highlighted the bacon and pesto more so than the chicken, was forgettable. The overall theme seemed to be: the first bite was interesting, the second bite was less good, and you were done by the third. There's definitely room for improvement. Perhaps this promiscuous fork needs to class it up a notch. read more

Four stars and climbing! The pot roast sandwich was delish! Super tender meat with a great horseradish sauce, that didn't overpower the pot roast flavor. Sure... the bun could have been better, but it did a decent job holding all that stuff in there. Why not 5 stars? Yum! Promiscuous Fork is both delicious and convenient for me. They had a super tasty Jumbo Shrimp salad they offered as a special a few weeks ago. It was soooo delicious! I hope they bring it back or make it a permanent menu item. I would really love that! The space gets pretty hoppin' in the evening. Bar stools and an option to eat outside or inside open up the space a bit. It is pretty small though and seat space is limited. They usually have a game on (score!) and serve alcohol. The Promiscuous Fork is a burger and grilled sandwich restaurant that actually self-identifies as "a fun foodie joint." I visited during the middle of the week with my family while it was pouring rain out. This is the kind of restaurant that has ~20 seats, its menu written in chalk, and a special multi-pork sandwich called The Notorious P.I.G. The Promiscuous Fork doesn't offer many vegetarian options: two sandwiches, mac & cheese, and a salad. I ordered The Hippie, the grilled portobello and black bean cake sandwich, for less than $10. The Hippie is an impressive sandwich. The sprouts added freshness, and I haven't sprouts had on a sandwich since Jimmy Johns got rid of them. The habanero pesto created incredible flavor. Should I be blending in hot peppers with my own pesto? The multigrain bread added depth to an already nuanced sandwich. I expected the bean cake and portobello to be a losing combination. But even that worked. I would avoid the coconut jalapeno rice. I haven't quite figured out how rice pairs with hot sandwiches or burgers. The roasted red potatoes, however, make a great side. They were like upgraded French fries, and reminded me of breakfast with my closest friends. I'd return if I visited San Diego. I'd recommend The Promiscuous Fork to a friend. This is a great addition to the neighborhood. My girlfriends and I stopped by for a late lunch and I'm so glad we did. The food: The food was fresh, light and perfectly seasoned. I had the pulled pork quesadilla with melted Gouda and my girlfriends had the blackened salmon tacos a Caesar wrap also with salmon. Both were very tasty. I can't wait to go back and try the sweet potato tots and the wings. They also have a nice selection of wine and draft beers. The rest: The restaurant is cozy, but because of the large window it feels airy and open. The decor is nice - simple, clean, and fun (loved the movie quote of the week on the wall!) I also like that you can see into the kitchen. Everything is made to order, so no frozen pre-made burgers here. The prices are very reasonable. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly. We met up with a few friends at Promiscuous Fork after reading some raving reviews on Yelp. After looking through all the pictures, we decided on the Notorious PIG as well ask the Best Forkin Chicken Sandwich. The Notorious PIG was so rich in meat and everything was cooked perfectly. I chose a side of fries which were a little burnt. The best forking chicken was delicious and well cooked perfectly. All together, all the food was delicious but make sure you wear stretchy pants cause this meal is highly filling! There is a parking lot out front that makes this place very accessible. We looped around the area afterwards and got gelato and saw some sea lions. I do agree with the reviews on here, the food does take a while to come out. We came here very hungry and got dangerously close to hangry waiting for our food to come out. That being said, the staff was very friendly and checked in on us multiple times throughout the meal. I've had the pleasure of trying the bacon wrapped shrimp po'boy as well as the grilled cheese. The po'boy didn't hit a home run with me - the shrimp was a bit bland and the bacon was soggy. The grilled cheese was much better...both were very messy in the hands, rich in flavor, and extremely greasy - which could serve to be the best consideration from a post-hangover meal in the La Jolla area. While a lot of the menu consists of this sort of eating, they do have lighter options such as blackened salmon tacos and a selection of salads. Not a hundred selection menu which is good because what they do make they do it well. I had to get the roast beef sandwich and if you see my pics it is huge piled with big dollop of super fine shredded lettuce that takes me back to a era long ear when the awesome deli's in N ca served it up like this. It was big and for sure I thought I would take half home but I put it down pretty easily which tells you it was very good along with the unique take on a side of coconut mild jalapeno rice. I'm eager now to venture out everything on their menu esp the fish of the day like their trout and grouper. Btw their wings looked amazing but I was too full, def next time. Decided to check this place out tonight...wish I could say I was impressed, sadly not so much. They have a very small space so I was nervous if I'd even have a seat to dine in. So the food... Jalapeño poppers--grilled and stuffed with cream cheese wrapped in bacon...MEH! For $9 I don't think they were as good as they should have been. I ordered them based on pictures I had seen posted of them, and mine didn't look anywhere near as good as those. And the mangled pieces of bacon wrapped around weren't exactly appealing. Mac'n'cheese--served on a plate. Who serves Mac'n'cheese on a plate?! It arrived luke warm at best and was mediocre. Boring and not much flavor, except for the excess of nblack pepper. Definitely not worthy of a $9 charge. On the plus side, I added the short ribs to my Mac and it was delicious! I could have eaten just a plate of that. The down side is that was an additional $5 on top of the unworthy $9 Mac'n'cheese. All together $14! Definitely overpriced for the less than average quality.
