Blackened salmon bowl

When I tell you I dream about this place I mean it. Everything is incredibly tasty and fresh. The service is top tier and the ambiance is great. I love their blackened salmon bowl. Will forever be my favorite meal in SD!

Food was good! Prices are fair, especially for La Jolla. We felt a little awkward with the service, I think it was because we were the only two inside but it kinda felt like we were a bother to the staff. I really enjoyed my burger and took half to go. I wanted seafood since we were by the water but some of the menu combinations were a bit odd for my taste. Seems like they had regulars that were coming and going so that's a good sign of a promising spot!

Hands down during our visit our best meal was served by The Promiscuous Fork in La Jolla. The ambiance and service is extremely laid back making this a place for everyone to come, converse, and experience well crafted food. I can't even explain how delicious and layered my Veggie bowl was; the rice had a green sauce that gave the rice a velvety texture and the veggies were crispy, not overly charred, or stemmed. I wish The Promiscuous Fork would do me the greatest favor and just add location in Seattle that would be forever happy. Until then I will keep finding reasons to plan trips to La Jolla so I can have dinner at The Promiscuous Fork; I highly recommend!

We came hungry and we left utterly satisfied. This is my kinda food. If I lived in La Jolla, I'd be here weekly and I'd try everything on the menu. Can't go wrong. Nutrient dense options, distinct flavors, well executed and beautifully plated. Tried the following: Salmon bowl Beetnick salad w/ delicious lemon basil dressing Crispy Brussels sprouts La Jolla Plate Recommend it all! Service was great, too. I wanted a traditional NA kombucha. They don't serve that, but she suggested I could go next door to the convenience store that sold what I was looking for and she approved me bringing that to the table. Kind customer service. We ate outdoors and enjoyed the small parklet and fresh air. I'll be dreaming of my next visit. What a gem of an eatery.

Poke bowl

My wife and I came here to try the food based on some of the pictures and reviews that we had seen. I tried the poke bowl and she had the yuck mouth burger. Neither blew us away. The rice was hot with the poke bowl, which caused the poke to be warmer than you would normally want. They had a pretty good taste, but wasn't one of the better Poké bowls I've ever had. The burger had a pretty good flavor, but was a little lackluster. We liked that they fry their fries in beef, tallow, and pretty decent.

After a long day of travel, we picked up dinner here to bring back to our hotel room. The space is small but so cozy and uplifting. The owner answered all my questions and helped me decide on menu items and they did not disappoint. Their poke bowl was refreshing and comforting at the same time. One of the best things I had on my trip. My kids inhaled the Mac and cheese and loved it. Would definitely come back again to try more menu items.

Found this place when we were checking out a nearby coffee shop.. Good juicy burger and fries fried in beef tallow.. Great friendly service Unassuming spot with casual indoor and outdoor dining

Ambiance in the inside of this place was amazing! The decor was like a little snip in Hawaii with beautiful paintings. The woman who took our order was well-versed in the menu and what would fulfill our cravings. She was super sweet as well! It was a little pricey though. The fries were nothing out of the ordinary. We also got: The Notorious P.I.G.: Super savory and the pork belly was juicy and tender! Would definitely get again! Best Fork'n Chicken Sandwich: Super good and I loved the pesto sauce that it came with!

Excellent example of little hole-in-wall with helpful, friendly service and fantastic food. Nice little tap selection. Of every place we've eaten in La Jolla, this was The One we'd return to! When local patrons sing praises to you upon entering, it's great.

This is definitely a hole in the wall putting out an amazing array of food. You order at the counter and the food is brought to you. The seating is heavy wood tables and stools, there is also outside seating. This is an older hippie looking place for all age locals. It was a referral from the hotel and we are glad we went there. I had a Kailus Pork Quesadillas with slow smoked pork, caramelized onions & smoked gouda, topped with cilantro, sour cream & hoisin. This was a filling meal. Could of had a little more pork but I am not going to complain because it was so good. My wife had The Notorious P.I.G, slow smoked pork, smoked pork belly, smoked gouda, baconnaise & BBQ slaw on a brioche bun. With all these flavors can you think of anything but delicious.

Shortrib Mac and Cheese and fish tacos
Shena R.

I ordered the shortrib mac and cheese and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! The meat was moist and seasoned well and the cheese wasn't so gooey that it wasn't enjoyable. It was delicious and although I felt it could've been priced lower for a place that you order at a counter, it was a good experience. There is plenty of free parking and only blocks away from a quiet beach.

Yuck Mouth burger with garlic Parmesan fries
Kelly Y.

We were in the area and stumbled on this place. Parking was easy but very tight or there's street parking. I ordered the yuck mouth; it was delicious with the bun on the sweet side. It's called yuck mouth for a reason, keep that in mind if you are going out after or you are on a date. It's a small place but they do have outdoor seating which is nice and service was great.

Scraped burnt fish
Sam M.

I have no idea how this place got 4.7 stars. It must be fake reviews. I ordered a salmon bowl and my husband got a chicken sandwich. My salmon was burnt, 5 thin pieces on top of a mountain of rice. I had to scrape off the burnt part, which was already so thin and left the ones that was not edible. For the sandwich's price, it should be a chicken breast but it's not. Pepsi and hot sauce was fine. Yes I do understand it was blackened salmon but I know the difference between burnt food and seasoned food. Also, the chicken we ordered was also burnt. Great way of responding to a customer you have so much class.

Don't waste your money...totally underwhelming and over priced. Food was cold and the service nonexistent.

First off portion sizes are huge so come with an appetite!…read more -we got the habanero fried chicken sandwich and the sweet potato fries. Totally was not as spicy as I had expected for habanero, but I recommend getting the spicy sauce on the side so you could dip your fries with it. It was actually perfectly crispy and also a huge portion that we were able to split it. The fries could definitely be a little bit more crunchy but nonetheless, it's nice to have a sweet potato Fry option. Lastly, the beet salad was also a huge portion plenty to share for two people. Definitely fresh tasting and a great compliment to any meal. The decor is amazing for all the Instagram folks out there with a lot of free flowing flowers. This place is pretty great for a medium group for ketchup sessions. Service was excellent. We were celebrating a friend engagement and they were able to give us a couple glasses of Prosecco to celebrate. If you grab a table upfront, it is open to the street, which is nice if you're a people watcher. Only downside to this location is that you have to find street parking so come a little early if you're coming at a popular dinner time. I do like that they make reservations and for a party of two, walk-in is actually not too bad on a weekday. Wish I had taken pictures, but I forgot since we were so hungry! Totally recommend coming here for friends if you're in the La Jolla area!

But this place has brunch and lunch options on Sunday. The late breakfast was delicious ( see pics ). The chicken blt I ordered was simple but delicious. Very fresh. The steak Cesar was also great. Steak was plentiful and it tasted awesome. They also accommodated our third meal ordered for the group which was making a teriyaki burger into teriyaki chicken and the fries or potatoes were tasty. Waiter was cool and remembered everything with frequent check ins. Ambiance was nice as it's all outside and it was a sunny evening with clear clouds. Only thing from giving this place a five is it's not cheap. Very expensive and overly price. Over 20$ for a sandwich or salad which is portioned perfectly to finish but you probably won't be taking anything home or 100 bucks with tip for 2 Sammie's and 1 salad and no additional drinks is just too much. It was Mother's Day but it was a standard menu. I could see these meals costing half the price so let's just say the food is great and service and ambiance but it's definitely overpriced. We don't go out too much and for a pseudo holiday and fun outside spot it's definitely a great spot, just expect to pay prime real estate prices and no to go leftover boxes.

The menu is pretty small so all of their focus goes into making delicious burgers. I ordered the American, a classic burger with cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. Since smashburger patties usually are pretty thin, I added a second one. Now this was a hefty burger! The brioche buns were buttery and fluffy and the patties were crispy along the edges. We also got an order of fries and onion rings and these could be some of the best fries in San Diego! I tried a bit of the 858 Burger which has bacon onion jam. I was expecting to enjoy the sweet, savory flavors but I didn't think the jam added much to the burger overall. Also, if you order the Classic, just be aware that it doesn't come with the usual veggies. It's a little deep in downtown La Jolla but I think it's worth the drive! I'll need to come back and give their milkshakes a try.

Located right in the heart of downtown La Jolla, it has quickly secured a spot in my top 5 burger joints. The Logistics Be prepared for the La Jolla hustle. Parking is scarce, so expect to find a spot on the street and walk a bit to the shop. Trust me--the walk is worth it. The Food The Milkshake: Do yourself a favor and try not to finish your shake before the food arrives. They are hand-spun and made to order; mine had these incredible chocolate bits mixed in. I accidentally polished off 80% of it while waiting for my burger because it was just that good. The Fries: These are addictive. The texture and crunch reminded me of a high-end version of Rally's or Checkers seasoned fries (which I already love), but elevated. The American Double ($12): Finding a burger of this quality for $12 in La Jolla is a win in itself. The meat was perfectly seasoned, the veggies were crisp, and the sauce was spot on. Most importantly, the bun held its integrity--no sogginess or staleness here. The ratios are dialed in perfectly. Presentation & Atmosphere Whether you eat there or take it to go, they care about the details. My burger was carefully wrapped and tucked into its own individual box, keeping the presentation clean. If you stay, they have both indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy the downtown vibe. Bottom Line: If you're looking for something new and high-quality, 858 Burger is well worth the drive.
