After a heinous 5 day training session, I was finally able to get out of the hotel a bit. Meeting up with an old friend in La Jolla, we spotted the Promiscuous Fork on our way back from the beach and determined we should start our night out there. The place is in a tight space with bar stools at the front and a large open air window, that allows you to enjoy the nice ocean air as you enjoy this great food. I never thought I would give a 5 star rating to a sandwich joint, but here we are. We were a bit divided on what to order, so we just ordered a bunch of stuff (highly recommended). First up were the Lamb Lollipops. Holy crap, these things are good. I would describe them as char-broiled, extremely flavorful, and cooked to perfection. A nice char on the outside and very tender and juicy when you bite into them. These seemed like the popular thing as we noticed several parties just ordering continuous rounds of the Lamb Lollipops. A must order. Next round, we split 2 of the sandwiches: the Surf and Turf and the Chicken with Pesto. Amazing sandwiches. Served on sourdough, briefly grilled on the flat top, slathered in butter, and most of all, great taste combinations. If i had to pick one over the other, I would say the Chicken with Pesto was the better as this was one of the best pesto sauces I have had. But, the Surf and Turf was solid too. It seems all of the flavors they put into their sandwich concoctions go together quite well and I lament that it will probably be quite some time before I get to hit La Jolla up again and get my paws on more of these delicious sammiches. Overall a great, laid back joint, with simple but awesome food. Nice to sit out and drink a few beers (Stone) and catch up with old friends. This will now be my La Jolla go-to place. Instead, it had kidney beans and an...interesting chipotle chili sauce. Not my favorite, especially the beans. The shrimp was amazing, but only had 3 pieces, I think, so there was an overabundance of bread (which was, admittedly, pretty good) and lettuce. Hubby had the kalua pork quesadilla. Came here with a friend. Place is small, but they maximized seating by lining the wall with bar stools and a large common table in the middle. 1. Bacon BBQ with shrimp and crab sandwich with cheese- The cheese kind of overpowered the taste of the seafood. I usually don't like my food drowning in BBQ sauce so I appreciated that this sandwich wasn't. Delicious! 2. My friend got the chicken sandwich which she liked too. The woman who took our order was friendly and helpful and when I accidentally mistook the painting of Bob Marley for a weird looking Jesus we had a great laugh! Wow, oh my Lordy! I'm not a Lamb and burger kind of person, but this place has changed me. The lamb lollipop is to die for, especially with the coconut rice. It's a perfection of both world and such a well balanced of the lamb and rice. Yuck Mouth is delish when you loooove garlic. Jo is such a nice person and very accommodating. Too bad we live in LA. Lamb chops were reasonably priced (if you like lamb, I highly recommend this dish. It's their specialty). Quesadillas were bomb even though I can't even eat cheese. Decent beer selection. I go to La Jolla every year. I make it a point to go to this place. I have told countless people to go there. But then I read Craig S., the owner's response, to Laurie C.'s review. As a lawyer, his statements about legal liability for letting a child eat food that was bought someplace else, offensive and ignorant. I also found his inability to spell and apologize for a poor customer experience inexcusable. I lost my appetite for this once favorite. Why couldn't the owner offer an olive branch? How about invite a kid back to try a taco instead of griping about his own rent? What happened to the friendly atmosphere that used to make this a destination? Sad! read more

I've been to both locations several times and used to love them. They really do have a cute atmosphere and both her in a great location. Sadly I must break this one star review based on several incidences. The last time I was in the San Diego crown point location I witnessed someone who I assume is a manager literally screaming and yelling at an employee for breaking something that she had no control over in front of the entire pretty full restaurant. Dude, check yourself. You are not that important and nobody deserves to be treated like that!! I thought that was very rude and unprofessional. I don't know if he's a new manager or owner, but it seems ever since the new year the consistency and quality of their product has gone downhill. I always order the same thing and it never ever comes out the same! I usually make a to go order and the only request I have is that the sauce go on the side so my sandwich does not get soggy by the time I get home. It's not too much to ask, sauce on the side. The last 3 (!) times the sauce is slathered on... soaking my bread. I should know better to leave without checking but you think someone would get it right for once. That's not my gripe. I have 2 issues today that will cause me never to return, and possibly question the integrity of this lacking establishment... I found not one but 2 (TWO!!) hairs in my lunch today. The first one was a realllllyyyy longgggg blond hair in my sandwich. I have short dark hair so I know it's not mine. There were only guys working in there. Where did it come from? The second hair is more disturbing. Found in mac salad. A huge freaking curly/pubic hair. Now I know that's definitely not mine cuz I don't have any. WTF?! Let me repeat... WHAT THE FREAK. We came here because of the good reviews on Yelp. Sadly, we were very disappointed. We waited almost one hour to get our food and the way to order was very unorganized as several customers were trying to order at the same time and the waitress was running around. When we finally got our food we weren't happy. My garlic fries were undercooked and the seasoning came off, so they barely had any. Plus, all they had was garlic because I couldn't taste any parmesan. The macaroni salad was average. Last but not least, we saw through their window that they had a bunch of premade packages of stuff, including a box of Krusteaz. If you go there for brunch don't get pancakes because you can make them at home out of the same package for a fraction of the price. Located near windansea beach in a small shopping center next to a liquor store. There is a parking available in a private lot. Having just moved to the area, I'm starting to explore the restaurants and bars. This is hands down the best I've been to yet (and will be difficult to beat). A very laid back environment with the nicest people. Seating is available but is limited. But we came on a Saturday night around 7 and didn't have trouble finding a table. Worst comes to worst, you can always do take out and eat on the beach which is a short walk away! We tried the following: - the lamb lollipops (5/5). Believe what everyone is raving about and just order it! Amazing flavor, cooked to perfection. Plus the coconut jalapeño rice on the side is addicting and a great pair with the lamb. - the best fork'n chicken sandwich ever (5/5). So delicious!! The green chili dressing and habanero pesto is finger licking good! - blackened salmon tacos (4.5/5). Very well done, the sweet chili Sriracha gives it such a yummy, unique flavor. Today decided to try this establishment. We arrived a little early and waited in the car. The employees were looking out the window and saying they are fing waiting for us to open. Used the f word a half dozen times as if they were upset we were wanting to eat there. I don't care how good your food is, if your employees are cursing the thought of them coming in to spend their hard earned money, you shouldn't spend it there. And we had three people purchasing and eating food from this restaurant and it was empty with plenty of seats for other people. we had to ask for our food to go and sit outside on a near by bench so our family could eat together. Wow. I had dinner here last night with a few friends and I was blown away. There is so much about this restaurant that I love that I'm afraid this is going to be a really long review. First of all, the name itself grabs your attention. The Promiscuous Fork. Most of my friends thought I was joking when I said thats where we were eating, but that's what I want. I like eating at places where the names themselves are unique, and the restaurant itself lives up to that expectation. Walking into the restaurant, you notice that this place is actually quite small. Bar tables with backless stools line up along the perimeter, limiting the seating to roughly 20ish people. Which is fine, since I noticed most people were taking their food to go. The decor is on point, with several humorous references to forks along the walls, paired with art pieces by a local artist. A clear glass panel looking into kitchen is a nice touch, since the chefs will actually smile back and wave. Between my friends and I, we tried the Lamp Lollipops, Surf and Turf Grilled Cheese, Pork Quesadillas, Wings, June Gloom Burger, and the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Sandwhich. Just seeing the food was amazing! I'll be posting some amazing pictures my friends and I took. And the wings smelled delicious! When the waitress set them on the table all we could think about was how great they smelled. I could go on and on about each item we tried, and I think they are all a must when you visit this place. But the thing that blew my mind were the quesadillas. I took a bite and I think I could feel tears of joy forming in my eyes. The only reason why I'm not giving this place a 5 star rating is because its impossible to give a 4.5 and I've always learned to round down. My only gripe is that because its such a great place to eat, with limited seating, it feels very crowded inside and finding a seat can feel like a chore. Their Award Winning Lamb Lollipops are award winning for a reason. Get. Them. Also, order something that has the coconut-jalapeno rice, because you don't want to miss out on that. The vibe is overall really pleasant, customer service was excellent and chatty without being overbearing, lots of awesome beer selections on tap. A little cozy - it's a small area and probably cannot comfortable sit more than 10 patrons, but there's take out available. You definitely need to come for the food though! read more

I love the idea of the place. It's a cool, small place that seems great for locals with the idea of serving great food in a casual setting. I've been looking forward to checking this place out for awhile. Walking in, it was busy but not too bad. We easily found room for three people. There was 2 other people in line and maybe 4-5 people sitting and waiting for food. At the counter, I rudely received as a welcome "just so you know, it's going to be like 30 minutes. We are really busy right now." Ok. I ordered a burger (June gloom) and a beer. $21 for a burger and a beer! It better be good... The food came out in 10 minutes. I had high hopes but the burger was over cooked (well done, not the medium I ordered) and the bun was burned (black and burnt tasting) and the rice was bland and tasteless. For a $13 burger that you order at a counter, I expected way way more. It was subpar, maybe the worst burger I've had at a restaurant in months. Beer was good, although it was a very rushed pour, 2 inches of foam, far from a full glass, and rudely served at the counter. Overall, WAY OVERPRICED!!!! Food was average at best. Poorly cooked. Rude service. Not worth the money and I will not be returning again. From what I heard from my friends, it used to be great. The place has definitely gone down hill. read more

Promiscuous Fork is a very small and laid back place with great food. Everyone that works there is extremely friendly. I ordered the surf and turf grilled cheese with the roasted potatoes, while my friend ordered the lamb lollipops. My food was very good. It comes with pastrami and crab with the most delicious cheese. I didn't get a chance to try the lamb, but it looked and smelled so good! She loved it. I will be returning to try those. There is a pretty tight parking lot outside, but if you go at the right time, you'll find a few parking spots. A+ for Friendly service, Great food, And of course having a parking lot! read more

My friends and I were so excited to try this place but left disappointed. I'll give 3 stars because food looks and smells really delicious but taste.. oh man. Maybe we got there in a bad day? My friend got the "Yuck Mouth" and was told it's VERY garlicy, we only asked to take off the fresh garlic cause she was worried of too much spice but to leave on the other toppings. And I ordered the June Gloom everything on it just with their "spicy chipotle sauce". For the yuck mouth they just gave us the plain burger, "Just forkin burger". I tried to tell the waitress but she said "we only put that cheese on the burger" I look back now and it's in both? We tasted no garlic anywhere! She gave us a side is the garlic spread, honestly wasn't that much help in fixing it. My friend and I split mine and there were no sautéed jalapeños, one of the main things inside! I didn't want to ask for more or cause more issues so we just dealt with it. I wish I could say I'd want to try this place again but that'll probably not happen :(. Also garlic parm fries have no garlic in them, whoever is taste testing them needs to fix that! read more

If you're ever in an unknown neighborhood, and looking to get some grub on, ask the guy with a hardhat. He'll set you straight. That being said, yesterday I ate at The Promiscuous Fork, in La Jolla. I ordered a grilled Caesar Salad, with shrimp. Ok, so I paid about 16$ for a salad, with shrimp. I left the change off my 20 as a tip. The tip jar was empty (sadly). It was the SINGLE best salad I've eaten in about 10 years. A decade. I got to meet the owner. The chef. The guy who cooked my food. Food is great, owner is awesome. Their staff is friendly and "on spot". I plan on eating there again next week. They have an open and honest menu. If I don't want a bun on my burger, then so be it. LOVE this place . Amazing barbecue! It's a very cute little space with bench seating, which encourages you to be a part of the social atmosphere, but it is what you make of it. The staff seemed super kind, and they're also welcome to dogs in the couple tables outside, which I liked. I had the Cubana sandwich, which had pork and ham, and we also got some garlic parmesean fries -- all super tasty! My mom got the poke bowl and was definitely not disappointed.
