Entrees came with a salad which was nice. The kicker was I wanted the halibut with king crab. Turns out the website wasn't updated, and they subbed out the halibut/king crab for.. cod? Who in their right mind would pay $49 for cheap ordinary cod? I defaulted to the salmon which was good and only $39. Crispy on top and the bottom was nice and clean. Mac and cheese was awesome! Had a most AMAZING "Ruby" experience last night celebrating my father's 94th birthday. His favorite restaurant is The Precinct and we dined there many years while he was still mobile. He wanted his last birthday meal to be from The Precinct and The Precinct over delivered, which is rarely the case with restaurants these days The steaks were cooked perfectly as were the accompaniments. The Freddie salads were immense and leftovers will be enjoyed today, a birthday treat that keeps on giving. 2-22-25 7:15p We had dinner in the bar area and enjoyed quite possibly the finest crab cake I've ever had anywhere. Then I had the wedge salad. This also was amazing however, my main course, the blackened Sea Bass with burre blanc sauce was definitely sub par. Burre blanc should be creamy and buttery. This dish tasted like 2% milk with herbs and trout roe but no butter whatsoever. I asked the waitress about it and she confirmed that's the way it is. Everything you could ever want in fine dining and more. Located in an early 1900s police precinct. You feel like you're stepping back in time with elegance. The service is top-notch. The waiters and waitresses are extremely knowledgeable. Not only of the food items, but also the cocktail selections. I had the Joe Burrow steak, which was a 14 ounce ribeye with a Cajun sauce on it. Along with baked potato, sautéed mushrooms, and a salad. It was amazing. My daughter had the petite fillet with the Collinsworth sauce on top. Probably the best fillet that I ever tasted. You could literally cut it with a fork. The bar area looks amazing. The decor is unbelievable. They offer valet parking which I would recommend for eight dollars or you can walk about two blocks from the nearest parking lot. Most of the steaks are aged to perfection. Be prepared to spend some money. We spent over $300 for two people, including appetizers, dinner, and two cocktails each. But between the quality of food and the ambience, it is worth it. While the high-end steak house genre never seems to go out of style, some players have simply jumped the shark. The Precinct is one of those. This venerable Cincinnati restaurant is resting on its laurels, and remains busy, despite the current shortcomings. The former police station location is an attractive stone building, but it is claustrophobically tiny inside, especially the bar section. Avoid this area if you want a quiet, refined meal. The decor, is over-the-top, fancy opulence, in a tacky way, which is the norm for Jeff Ruby spots, but it's tattered, dark, and dated. The carpets are faded, the woodwork is chipped (the men's restroom door looked like a campus dive bar) and the staff looks ridiculous in their black-tie tuxes, like they were auditioning for a part in Downtown Abbey. However, service was excellent, and well-timed. Our $280 meal was a letdown, as the steaks (filets) were tough, and stringy, which is hard to do with that cut. They were cooked correctly (medium-rare, as ordered), but these clearly were not prime filet mignons. The faded, yellowing photos from long-ago of Jeff Ruby hamming it up with celebrity diners in the lobby is the perfect metaphor for a place that is way past its prime (pun intended). read more

What a disappointing dinner. We have eaten at all of the Jeff Ruby's in Cincy plus Louisville. Ruby's was our go to for celebrations and a place to bring out of town guests. We've been disappointed at downtown and Carlo and Johnny's. The Precinct has been the most reliable... until tonight. We had reservations at 545, arrived 10 minutes early and were seated right away. Our server, Kelly, met us quickly and was, by far, the highlight of the evening. Drinks and appetizers arrived timely and were good. (Hard to screw up shrimp and oysters.) My wife ordered the cowboy ribeye with a baked potato. I ordered the ocho cinco... a 6 oz filet and 6 oz lobster tail. Both steaks medium rare. We waited. And waited. Kelly stopped by a couple of times to apologize for the delay. Finally, our food arrives. My steak... overcooked and warm, not hot. Lobster tail, warm, not hot. Mashed potatoes, room temperature. My wife's steak... overcooked, gray and warm, not hot. Baked potato, hard and undercooked. Kelly stopped by, immediately took our food and promised to send a manger over. 10 or 15 minutes later, Dakota came over apologized and promised to make it right. By the time the food arrived (correctly and cooked properly) we had been in our booth for 2 hours and were ready to go. We took a few bites, ordered a slice of chocolate cake to go and packed up. When the check arrived, we were treated to... a slice of cake. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. We understand that the food business is imperfect. It's about how things are fixed that make the difference. I don't want to negotiate, but a slice of cake doesn't cut it. How do you get the customer back? Credit a meal? Gift cards for future use? We went down on a Monday and enjoyed the special they were having (filet, lobster, potatos, asparagus, salad and bread)..we enjoyed a table on the top floor for our party of 5. What an amazing experience! Hands down best restaurant in Cincinnati! The Precinct was a former precinct. It's pretty neat to walk around and see the original building with the decor of the restaurant. Fun fact - the owner's wife loves lights and there are beautiful lamps from all over the world throughout the restaurant. While we waited for our table, we grabbed a drink at the bar. Glad we did this as we got to see more of this unique, but beautiful space. Shortly after grabbing a drink, we were seated in the main dining room. Our servers, Dave and Kaitlyn, were amazing! So kind and attentive. They provided multiple recommendations. Oh boy, they were on point! My colleagues and I got different versions of the steaks. I got the herb filet to be exact. Mouth watering yumminess! I can't believe I finished my entire plate! Portions are generous even for a petite cut. Additionally, salad and a potato (mashed or baked) was included. For a nice steakhouse with all those fixings, it was pretty reasonable for dinner. The table shared the mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and carrots. I'm drooling as I think about dinner! We have dined at many other high end steak houses many times such as The Pine Club, Paragon, Capital Grille, etc. This was our first time at a Jeff Ruby steakhouse and I was disappointed. I got the special that night-Freddie salad, petite filet mignon and lobster tail, asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. I can honestly say the best part of my meal was the Freddie salad which was like a BLT in a bowl. Yum!! But what does it say about a steakhouse when your salad is the best part of your meal? My asparagus wasn't hot & the filet and lobster tail were nothing to write home about. My husband got the ribeye Joe burrow style. He said the Joe burrow style was good, but they put way too much on the steak and it overpowered the meat. We also got a cheesecake which was average. This being said, our bill was twice the cost of the other steakhouses previously mentioned and the food was not as good. Filet was disappointing, chef forgot to season the filet, though it was cooked to med rare as requested. There was no seasoning at the table as you might expect from a well seasoned filet. Some chefs might find it insulting for a guest to have to season his own filet. To taste a properly seasoned filet I suggest the chefs go to Wolfgang Pucks Cut. I went to the Precinct for a graduation celebration. The staff were so welcoming and attentive and excited to celebrate with us! Bread service comes with the meal. I got a Greek salad which was nice and I liked that the dressing came on the side. My family got the ribeye and absolutely loved it! It melted in your mouth and had great flavor. I liked that it wasn't too fatty as well. I got the petite filet and lobster which was not worth the money. The best part of my steak was the garlic butter topper that I paid extra for. The filet was chewy and the lobster was overcooked and rubbery. I wouldn't recommend getting the seafood here. Last night our party of 12 went to The Precinct for our annual book club Christmas dinner. This is a time where I really wish I could give half Stars, because for the most part the evening was exceptional. There were just a few things that made me head to dock my review a bit. We arrived slightly early for a reservation, and in the ten min or so while waiting I was sweating bullets (not just because the heat in the entryway was cranked alllllll the way up) because there was limited places for us to stand while waiting for our room and I had a huge gift bag. Every time I shifted to allow people to walk by I was scared I was going to knock over the Christmas tree with my big bag lol. So be mindful that the waiting area/entry way is not very big. Service seemed a bit slow, and that's to be expected with a bigger party, but it seemed a little slower than normal. We did have some members in our group that were late and that likely affected the timeline of things, but it seemed drawn out to be signing the last check at 11:15 for an 8 pm reservation. The private room we had for dining was beautiful decorated for Christmas and gave a cozy yet festive vibe. For my cocktails I had a blood orange-sage mule and an Apple Cobbler cocktail. I love a good meal, but was hoping for the blood orange-sage to be the star of the show and make this drink unique. I didn't pick up on much of a blood orange flavor at all, so it was more like a regular mule again which I like, but not what I was expecting. The apple cobbler cocktail however was delightful! Refreshing and very on theme with the holiday vibe of the evening. For my starter I had lobster gnocchi, the portion size on this was very generous and I feel like this could have been an entree for me. The flavor profile was phenomenal. Like seriously, I woke up this morning wanting more of it. I love the Precinct location because with entrees you automatically get salad and a potato side. The Freddie salad is my go-to here. It never disappoints. I had the Delmonico ribeye with the off menu blackened scallop accompaniment. Sometimes I find blackened seasoning overwhelming, but our server offered it to me with light seasoning and that was positively perfect. My only issue during the dinner portion is that I also ordered garlic butter to crown my steak and I didn't receive that, despite asking a couple of times, until food was being packed up to go. At this point my state was no longer hot enough to melt the butter so the big block of it just kind of sat on top, still solid. Thankfully I was not charged for this, and I know it will be good with my leftovers, it just would have been nice to have last night while the steak was fresh. Again, despite a few minor issues, all in all we had a wonderful time last evening. There is a reason we have been to a Jeff Ruby establishment on more than one occasion in the 12 years that we've had the celebratory dinner. We know we can expect great service and even better food. read more

I'm a big fan of Jeff Ruby. I still mourn the loss of The Waterfront, which we used to frequent back in the day. I still have yet to find a restaurant with the impeccable level of service we received there (including other Jeff Ruby restaurants)...but I digress... So my bestie and I went to The Precinct (my first time there) for a girl's night out. Our server Cole was very attentive and made our meal smooth work. He suggested several items and described their preparation well. I had been eyeing the menu online for weeks so I pretty much knew exactly what I wanted. I had the NY strip, garlic mashed potatoes and Freddie salad. We shared a crab cake appetizer and the baked mac and cheese. The steak...that's why we're here....oh my. It was simply delicious. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Melted in your mouth. Not too much char (which I appreciate) and just a party in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were way better than I expected. A lot of times you can taste that they are "boxed"...but not these. They were delicious. The mac and cheese was good, but not the amazing dish I'd imagined. The crab cake appetizer was off the chain! I could eat a dozen of them, they were seriously that good. LOTS of crab and the remoulade sauce topped it off perfectly. My friend had the barrel cut filet mignon and mashed potatoes also. She loved it. We ended up taking half our meals home so that we'd have room for dessert. I had the creme brulee, simply outstanding. My bestie had the carrot cake, and they brought a HUGE slab of it, with this delightful sauce on the side. Just the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. I had iced tea with my meal, and my BFF had a couple alcoholic beverages. The bill, less tip was $272. read more

My mother ordered the Ochoa cinco and was in love with the steak and the sauce. The ambiance was great and the inside was beautiful. The restrooms were very nice as well. Our service was incredible and our mattress went over the items on the menu to help us since it was our first time there. They kept our drinks filled and were all very nice. My daughter and son in law took my wife and me to The Precinct last night. The staff was very nice and attentive. I had the "Ocho Cinco", a filet and a 6 oź lobster tail. To go with it I had the Freddy Salad, and was offered a choice of either a baked potato or garlic mashed potatoes. Everything that I had was excellent, except for the garlic mashed potatoes. They just were not very good, so my wife shared her baked potato with me. She had the roasted chicken and was offered a choice of potato. The server should have offered her something instead of a potato dish as crispy potatoes came with the roast chicken. As it was my 80th birthday the server brought out a wonderful chocolate dessert, and my daughter ordered a piece oʻf their butter pie. Both excellent. Everything was very good except for the mashed potatoes, and not offering my wife an alternative to another potato. Very good overall. read more

It pains me to write this as the Precinct has been my favorite Ruby restaurant since it opened. Have had many top notch meals (as to be expected) and celebrations here. We went on Friday of the river roots festival weekend. We had dinner with another couple in the bar area and all 4 of us kinda just went, "huh". I don't know what happened but the taste was NOT the same. My favorite Freddy salad tasted like it had bacon bits from a bag. My filet was surprisingly lacking in flavor and texture. It was cooked to my liking but was off. The only thing that saved it the collinsworth topping but there wasn't a decent amount of it. The whipped potato's were good but texture could have been better with those as well. My dining partners sea bass was not cooked well at all. Our server was nice but noticeably absent and missed the opportunity to get an order for a second round of wine. I am happy to read that other folks are still writing fantastic reviews, but our experience totally missed the mark for this price point for a meal! read more
