So good had to come back two days later! This is a spot that doesn't miss and I always try to come when im in Austin. The outdoor and interior and both amazing atmospheres! They have delicious food and drinks and I could eat the shallot hummas everyday! Our server was really helpful and helped us translate Spanish when we lost our phone in an Uber. She went the extra mile and really goes to show the service of this establishment!! read more

The ambience was incredible! The food was pretty good, I live here and this was still a little pricey for the quality around here. Dumplings were alright, the latkes and short rib hummus were great. The vibes are definitely the star of the show! Our waiter was also very quiet and not personable but also not rude. read more

Stellar service and food! My wife and I come here every 1-2 months and love the muhammara and octopus. It is the most tender octopus I have ever had consistently. We had a few issues on our last visit, and they welcomed us back with increidble service, attention to detail and hospitality. We will be coming back here more often as a result! read more

The food was absolutely AMAZING! The restaurant was beautiful!! Even the restroom was inspired!! And our server was so sweet! Will absolutely be back!! I don't have food pics - but trust when I say the plating was beautiful! read more

The food was great but I found it too expensive for the portion sizes. Service was just OK and the place was way too dark, you can hardly see what you are eating. If you want to have a great meal and pay a lot or you don't mind it, it is a good place. Beautiful but dark. We asked for more bread we're told yes never brought it or offer to bring for additional cost. We had a vegetarian in our group and mentioned it to the server but the veggie kebab came in the same plate and on top of the meat kebabs. Not a big deal but a detail not to be missed in a pricy place. Not sure I will be back. read more

Came here for a bachelorette with a group of 12. Highly recommend for groups!! We had a preset menu and it was perfect. The staff were extremely attentive. One of our girls was gluten free and they made sure to bring her gluten free bread and a gluten free dessert which was very thoughtful. Didn't have to worry, just enjoyed ourselves and the delicious food. My favorites were the hummus and the shrimp kabobs!! Would love to come back here for a date and sample more of the main menu. read more

Went there for my birthday. High end restaurant, modern ambiance. Lots of young well dressed good looking people at the bar of the lobby where the restaurant is. I was genuinely impressed by the food. The hummus was excellent and the pita was fresh out of the oven. Delicious kebabs. Great wine. Loved the dessert. Highly recommended if you like middle eastern food. read more

I have been to other Mediterranean grills that have had a bit more flavor than this location. I may have potentially just ordered wrong and would absolutely come back again and try some other items on their menu. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. read more

We came here for desserts and drinks after an early dinner at Uchiba across the street. Peacock has a really good selection of sweets and wine pairings! We all agreed I chose the best dessert - a sticky toffee pudding topped with vanilla ice cream served in an adorable small tagine! I didn't go with the suggested pairing and opted for a bold red wine instead. It was the perfect recommendation from our server who was friendly & efficient! So glad they were able to find a table for us even when we just walked in. We sat at their outdoor patio which was surprisingly comfortable on a summer evening in Austin! read more

We arrived right at 11:45 for our reservation time. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We said outside and we were told that would be a 15 minutes wait but could get seated inside immediately. We said "inside" to then be told 5-10 minutes right after they said "immediately". After we were placed at a small lounge table, 20 minutes passed by with no one who gave us an update when we would be seated and we were still not seated so we left. Typically reservations mean less than 5 minutes after you arrive, you will be seated. I understand if we just showed up unannounced but this was not the case. We were ready to order a lot of food and drinks too :( I encourage the staff here to be more communicate and transparent to reservation times, availability, and wait times. :( read more

This is a pricier place in Austin but it's worth at least one visit imo. The food here and ambiance were really nice. We especially liked the mujadarra and the muhamarra, and the vegetarian curry. The drinks were okay, you can get better cocktails at Goldie's which is also in the proper. Service was decent but I felt I had to ask for water refills fairly frequently and someone in our group was flying in that night to join us for dinner and we told them 4 times to not clear the plate of the person that was about to join so I had to take off 1 star. read more

So as a Mediterranean food lover, I had to try a new spot. I know I know it's not really new anymore, but I'm a frequent visitor of Aba, and wanted to show my love elsewhere. So just like any popular spot in Austin, we couldn't get reservations because we decided the night before that this was where we were going. LoL When I called them they said that we could try to walk in, and if not we could always get seating at the lounge area which also serves the full dinner menu. Note to self: Don't depend on eating in the lounge, it was so packed and people were literally standing on top of each other with no room to move. I wouldn't have wanted to eat within that mix, with people breathing literally all over your food. No thank you! So I'd suggest the lounge area purely if you were looking to grab some drinks. Now for the food itself. We ordered the short rib hummus for a starter and the lamb chops for our meal which we shared. The meat on both was so tender and flavorful. We enjoyed them both very much. It is a great place for a special occasion or date night, but honestly I feel that it's a bit overpriced for the experience. I'd definitely come back for the food, but also think I might keep Aba as my first pick. The ambience and overall experience just lacked for me here. read more

Went here for my husband's birthday and absolutely enjoyed the food. Pros: each dish was bursting with flavor. Some dishes were slightly spicy and played well with the depth of garlic and bright citrus. All of the dipping sauces for the kebab platters tasted homemade and fresh. I loved the character in presentation as each kebab skewer looked slightly different than the other. The saffron rice was my favorite side and was very fragrant and yet mild in flavor, and no harissa was spared with the fries and aioli. Cons: when we arrived the hostess did not say hello nor did she smile at us when we checked in. If anything she appeared to be smiling prior to us checking in and affect went flat when checking us in. While this made us feel unwelcomed at first, the warmth of the waiting staff quickly overshadowed any doubt and our overall experience was great. I personally was not a fan of the cardamom honey on the baklava, it had a pumpkin spice flare that I personally didn't enjoy but if you like cardamom then I strongly suggest the baklava. The pudding dessert was definitely the star of the show. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. The ambiance and decor was beautiful, the wait staff were wonderful, and the food was excellent. There's also a valet parking option available for convenience. I'd come back for the cocktails and hummus alone. read more

Great evening at the Peacock -- the aesthetic atmosphere, Mediterranean details, and delicious mezze did it for me! Located inside the gorgeous Proper hotel, this was a perfect date night spot and service was great. The manti beef dumplings and beef short rib hummus are both a MUST. Dumplings are full of flavor and melt in your mouth. Hummus was smooth and creamy and made to perfection as was the pita. I'm craving the dumplings and hummus again as I'm typing this. For our main, we ordered the spicy lamb kefta. It was slightly tough and while still flavorful, it was clear the mezze was the star of the show! For our side, we got the potato and herb latkes with a dollop of labneh on top and these were tasty as well. The Bonfire on the Beach cocktail was a delicious mezcal concoction with charred grapefruit and za'atar on the rim. But was it worth $20? I wouldn't say so. For dessert I got a piece of baklava and although it was a one-bite dessert, it was delectable. The nuts, cardamom syrup, flakey pastry -- amazing and worth the $4 bite. Overall, I loved this spot and would return on occasion as it is overpriced -- or perhaps come back just for the dips & mezze! The patio looked just as aesthetic as the inside and I'd love to come back in warmer weather. read more

We were in austin for a bachelorette party and this place did not disappoint! The restaurant was aesthetically pleasing and the food was amazing. We ordered a chicken kebab plate and short rib hummus and they were both delicious. We've never had short rib hummus before and was pleasantly shocked that the two combination went really well. The short rib was so tender and just melted in your mouth. The chicken kebab plate was bigger than expected and was perfectly grilled! We enjoyed our time and had a lot of room despite how popular the restaurant was. We also asked to move tables to get a better view and they were kind enough to do so! Will be back next time we're in Austin. read more

I love that Austin has had quite a few Mediterranean restaurants open in the last few years. The Peacock is located in the Austin Proper Hotel and I envy the guests for being able to enjoy this amazing restaurant. I have been twice and both experiences were wonderful. In particular I enjoyed the hummus, the cocktails and the lamb. Our waiter was fantastic and was able to provide excellent advice on food selection. I will definitely be returning in the future. read more

I've eaten at Peacock 4x now and i think its best as brunch. I really enjoyed the brunch selection. The dinner options need to be better. The hummus, breads dips are delic, the dumplings were awesome but the salad options are subpar. I got the chicken tajine and it was like a spicy soup. I couldn't eat, too spicy. We got kefta skewers last time and they were just ok. My mom got lamp-chops and those were amazing! Our martinis were great too & i love the ambiance, always. I think the team just needs to re-vamp the mains options at this time. read more

I have eaten here two times in the last week and both experiences were very pleasant. The staff is great, very eager to please. We had the crispy shallot hummus, manti dumplings, grilled octopus and beef tenderloin and shrimp kebab served family style. These dishes must be the greatest hits as both times it was recommended to us by our server. The food is delicious! I kinda regret not trying something else but I always go off the server's recos. The patio has a great space with a nice breeze that comes through. However there are small round tables and I think they would be better off replacing with a rectangular table that would be more comfortable and fit all the food. I look forward to returning for brunch some time. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and sat outside with a girlfriend. We loved the outdoor area but of course it got hot pretty quickly in the summer heat. The service was a bit slow and either too attentive or not attentive enough. When we were ready to check out, we went inside as it was so hot and it took a good 15 mins for someone to take our payment. Not sure if the waitress didn't notice we were gone or what. The Mezze plate was good but $22 for a scoop of hummus, babbaganoush, a piece of pita bread and smoked salmon seems like a bit over priced to me. Hotel prices, I guess. The waitress did bring water for a friend and his dog who stopped by for a moment which was very thoughtful. The indoor space is very well decorated and comfortable. On Friday night, I've heard it gets quite busy with young professionals. read more

Dinner at the Peacock Mediterranean Grill at the Proper Hotels in Austin with Mohnish Pabrai & Lyn, my Baby Doc Sis. My eyes glimmered with subtle excitement when I was told the choice of dinner this Saturday evening was "mediterranean", thinking kebabs are my fave food trip. I thought I was versed with this cuisine but little did I know that what I knew was just a scratch on the surface. I liked everything we ordered and my favorite was the Wood grilled Octopus, which is my goals if I go to Greece. However the Sticky Toffee Pudding was the champion of all. Oh well, I felt like Dora the Explorer for yet another food adventure. This is a posh place that I would have loved to give a 5 for good food and great food presentation if only the noise level is a tad lower. read more

We live walking distance from The Peacock. We had some friends who were visiting from out of town so we decided to take them here since we walk by it all the time and it always looks so pretty from the outside. We were disappointed to learn that this place does not offer happy hour. We sat for dinner and ordered a bunch of different items on the menu. Definitely recommend doing family style here so that you can try a bunch of different dishes and share since everything is pretty expensive but small portions. We ordered: - Beef Short Rib Shwarma Hummus - Gulf Snapper Crudo - Wood Fire Grilled Octopus - Atlantic Salmon - Aleppo & Garlic Gulf Shrimp - Saffron Rice - Couscous - Asparagus Everything was pretty great overall! Service was attentive and made great suggestions for us based on the number of people we had and portion sizes. We had to order a lot since the portions were so small and we finished still feeling slightly hungry despite the amount of money we spent. Drinks were also okay, mostly for the aesthetic. Giving this place 4 stars because I liked it, but didn't love it and wasn't changed by it. Ambience is definitely super nice, it's a pretty cute place but I'd visit other spots before returning here since it's so pricey. read more

An "it" spot for an Austinite. If you're contemplating Mediterranean food with your friends or coworkers, this spot is the place. Very beautifully elegant on the inside with attentive waitstaff. The kebabs are a good portion with a beautiful char on the shrimp, but the item to die for is the octopus. Eaten like a steak, but wonderfully tender to the point where I had to write a review despite first trying it over a month ago. If there's anything to make sure to get, it's that. Although some people might not be dazzled by chicken, their yogurt marinated chicken thigh also pulls through as a great choice. Price sits anywhere around $50+ a person with an entree and smaller plate (choosing from tajine and mezze sections). Although the outside is open to the street, it's secluded enough to feel secure. However, the heat of Texas will probably warrant indoor reservations for most of the year. read more

The experience was hit or miss. Door and being seated were seamless and very well executed. The waiter was polite and professional. The misses: waiter either new or over worked. Not very attentive. When he did engage he was very good. Some of the items we ordered did not make it to the table until after and lengthy wait and our asking about them. Finally the food. Some items were very good. But the main items (lamb kabobs, and tenderloin kabobs) were unremarkable. The lamb tasted and had the texture of food that had spent too long under a warming light as it waited to be brought to the table. We went on a Wednesday evening. It was packed. Perhaps they are not used to that number of clients on a Wednesday and were short staffed. The elements to be a wonderful restaurant and experience appear to be in place and on a different day it might be. read more

Our group of four had a reservation on a busy Thursday night. We began with the crispy shallot hummus, a delicious start, especially with the warm pita bread. We had high expectations for our meal at the Peacock, but they weren't fully met. We ordered the muhammara, which we've enjoyed at other places and also made at home. The muhammara here was creamy in texture, more like hummus, and the favor was muted. The mezze plate was all right as well, but didn't hit the spot; the flavors could have been richer. Bread was served warm, which was nice; service was good but a little slow when we visited, late afternoon. Overall it was good but didn't make it to great, particularly for this price point. read more

To me, I think this is the best Mediterranean food in the city. I put it over ABA. This place is FANTASTIC. The ambiance is incredible. Beautiful no matter where you sit. But try to come on a cool night and sit outside. GET THE APPETIZERS. Every time I come, I stick to the appetizers. Best if you are on a date and you two split them. Get 4 or 5 of the appetizers and that's your meal. They are all 10 out of 10. read more

Overpriced and Underwhelming The staff at Peacock Restaurant was nice, and our waitress was very friendly, but this review isn't about them--it's about the ridiculous practices of restaurant owners trying to squeeze every penny out of customers. $8 for a so-called "NYC" bagel? First, this bagel was nowhere near a real New York bagel--maybe from Kansas or something. If you're going to charge eight bucks for a bagel and slap "NYC" on the menu, at least make it taste decent instead of like a bargain-bin piece of bread. Breakfast for two--a simple order of eggs, coffee, a bagel, and shakshuka--costs over $100. That's absurd. And to top it off, they added a wellness surcharge to the bill. Let's be clear: the cost of doing business is the owner's responsibility, not the customer's. Stop hiding these costs in sneaky fees and inflated menu prices. Again, this isn't about the service, which was great; it's about feeling exploited by yet another restaurant with sky-high prices and extra fees. Please save your money and go somewhere that respects its customers. read more

I have a severe dairy allergy and got the Peacock Brunch Burger. The fries were very good, but unfortunately, the burger gave me an allergic reaction. There was a questionable sauce and potato pancake on the burger, but the waitress assured me it was completely dairy free.
