Poor service and rude manager, Denise and waitress, Penny. Penny was abusive to me and my guest. She demanded the two of us to sit at a crowded counter when there were at least 6 tables and booths available that could seat four. We chose to sit at a booth. She asked us to move to the counter and we said no. She wanted bigger tips for a booth of four instead of only two. She ignored us and refused to serve us. I complained to the manager, Denise. When Penny refused to apologize she came to our table, mouthed the words "F*** You" and gave us her middle finger. Never having been here before, after this visit I would certainly return. Admittedly I only had a coffee and a bagel but there is a nice friendly vibe here and the wait staff seem to be professionals. Despite its name, I tried Mug Rack for breakfast and again and again and will not go to any place else. Great immediate service, comfortable booths, good unlimited coffee, pancakes bigger and softer than IHOP, and large eggs used served to my wishes. Go here for Breakfast with low prices. Closes at 3 pm and plenty of parking. An old time Diner but much cleaner. Try breakfast platter 2, two eggs, two large pancakes or French toast and bacon or ham for $9.99. A real bargain. 3 bucks extra for home fries. FYI, After three times, I never got "The Runs" from eating their food unlike other places. Try going before 12 noon, to get a table. While I love breakfast at the Mug Rack, I could very well spend the whole day there, eating one meal after the next. On Friday, November 6th, a buddy of mine and I stopped in for lunch. Although the place was somewhat crowded, we were seated immediately. The wait staff is so very accommodating and friendly, they offered us the choice between table or booth. (Always take a booth if available...very comfy.) The waitress suggested a Club sandwich and it was the best thing I chose all day. You'll see the accompanying picture of this masterpiece. It was a perfect sandwich...bread was lightly toasted, the sandwich piled high with moist turkey breast and CRISP bacon. I went for the whole package of my favorites and included steak fries with my sandwich. Those are the best. Plain, fried potatoes (I'm not a fan of seasoned or curly fries, I'm a French fry purist!) Lunch came quickly. Everything was hot and fresh and it was time to chow down. As big an eater as I am, I almost didn't finish this club masterpiece. But I did finish it and somehow found room for dessert. I had rice pudding and whipped cream, which I highly recommend. I'd be remiss if I didn't give a salute to the wait staff. They were attentive, friendly and very courteous, but they didn't hover. They did their jobs just the way an accomplished wait staff should. Very commendable. If you're in Jackson, NJ, and looking for a great breakfast or lunch, this should be your destination, without a doubt. Next time around, my boys and I will be trying out the dinner menu. Moved out of Jackson over a year ago and have tried multiple diners. Nothing comes close to The Mug Rack. I travel over 30 minutes to get their Pork Roll, Egg and Cheese on a bagel, their crispy chicken wrap with the best honey mustard ever (I couldn't literally drink it - it's so good) and their omelettes are not only delicious they are HUGE! Honestly they let you customize just about anything on the menu, which is a big thing for me. I love that it's family owned. Too many big box businesses burying mom and pops like this, but they have been in business for over 50 years and it shows. The coolest part for me is you can bring your own mug!! We took a day trip to Howling Woods Farm, and stopped for lunch at The Mug Rack. We would definitely stop again if we were in the area. Everyone was very pleasant, the wait was reasonable and both indoor and outdoor dining was available. Oh, and did I mention - the food was really good! I like this place. It is a nice-sized diner. My wife and I go here often on Sunday mornings. The food is good. The waitresses on the weekend are mostly college students. They are very friendly, particularly to regulars. Expect to wait about 10 minutes or so if you come on Sunday morning. Many families come here for breakfast after going to church and the place gets a little crowded then. Parking is sometimes a problem. Occasionally I have to park in the school across the street from the diner. They do not offer free wifi. I would recommend The Mug Rack. read more
