Porkroll and cheese with fries
Sean B.

It's been a while since I've been able to come to my former hangout when I lived here in New Jersey. This place is exactly the same as I remember, which is to say outstanding. The same family runs the operation and while there are many new faces behind the counter, it is exactly the same service and quality of food. Today's lunch was a pork roll with cheese on a hard roll with some fries and brown gravy. Quite simply the best you'll have out here. If you're in the area stop in, but please note they are only open for breakfast and lunch generally. My thanks to the Riccio family for keeping such a great operation running exactly as I remember.

Breakfast Burrito Wrap - A breakfast plate contains a partially unwrapped breakfast burrito filled with ingredients like mushrooms and cheese, alongside two hash browns. In the background, there is a bowl of cooked meat and a plate with French toast and bacon. The setting appears to be a casual dining restaurant with utensils, a napkin, and a newspaper on the table.

Went here for breakfast the other day, I passed it a bunch of times and finally gave it a try. Got the breakfast burrito with hash browns. It was pretty good, cheap food all around, the service was great too. Great diner spot for breakfast

Located in Jackson this place is a gem. The portions are generous and the breakfast burrito is highly recommended. The ambiance was pleasant from the locals and staff everyone was friendly. Except our waitress it felt like we were bothering her by being there. We notice other staff member being so nice to their patrons we even had another waitress be attentive to us more than our original waitress. Would I still recommend this place? Yes, because I believe in second chances especially since it was one person and we are human. Bad days happen. I would recommend bringing cash if not you will be charge a card fee which is the norm in a lot of places. They have signs posted about this so no surprises here.

French Toast, egg & hash, at The Mug Rack in Jackson, NJ.

Came back to The Mug Rack over the weekend for breakfast w/ the wife & In-Laws. We were seated right away, place was moderately busy for a Sunday morning at 8am. I ordered a sausage, egg & cheese on a hard roll -- a VERY large sandwich, overall though, I thought it tasted just OK. Other breakfasts ordered were average & pretty standard. My wife had the Eggs Benedict -- the eggs were overdone, yolk was not runny. But that does seem to happen a lot when ordering Eggs Benedict, I suspect many places pre-cook the poached eggs then re-heat them when a Benedict is ordered. She also felt the hollandaise sauce was too sweet. It's hard to find an Eggs Benedict done right. Service was good and the prices are reasonable at The Mug Rack.

Omelette with spinach, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, rye, toast, bacon, and home fries. Best !!!

Very good breakfast. Look forward to this place weekly. omelette with spinach, mushrooms Swiss cheese, bacon, white toast, and fries.

Hometown diner with dog friendly outdoor seating! Great service too!

I was out of town and my friend brought me here and I was not let down. Is it weird that you can…read moretell if the food is going to be by the quality of their fruit salad? I don't think so. It was very clearly not fruit cocktail from a can but good fruit. The hot apple cider was so delicious as well as the whipped ricotta and prosciutto toast. My mouth is watering as I am typing. The restaurant was packed for a Monday and we still were seated within a few minutes. It was lovely inside and very clean. The waitress was very friendly and even though the restaurant was loaded I didn't feel rushed to order and leave.

Came to the Skillet yesterday after a beautiful morning in Asbury Park , glad we opted to eat here…read more! We were seated immediately upon arrival (party of 4 at 11:15 on a Saturday!) and ordered a variety of menu options. Loved the variety of the menu , there was truly something for everyone's taste ! The Lemon Orange ricotta pancake was phenomenal and I love that they offer a single pancake (plain or specialty!) as a side so you can have your sweet treat post meal - more places should do this! The Fried rice under the coconut shrimp wasn't cooked super well; this was probably the most disappointing menu item. Their iced coffee can also be ordered to go; I had a black iced coffee so not much to review but the coffee itself was tasty! Loved the decor of the restaurant but it was very noisy and chaotic. Need something to absorb the noise to make for a much nicer experience. Overall definitely would return, especially if eating outside on a warmer day!

I ordered the Mom Burger, which is a Swiss burger topped with mushrooms on a brioche bun. It also came with a good portion of fries and a side of pickles. The burger itself was pretty solid -- good flavor and a satisfying size. At $16, the portion felt fair considering the amount of fries you get with it. One thing I noticed was an additional charge for sauces. I asked about it, and they explained that all their sauces are made in-house, which is why they charge $1 per sauce. Honestly, that makes sense when they're homemade. Now the star of the show for me was actually the drink. After looking over the menu a bit more, I decided to try the LA Metro coffee drink with almond milk. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but for $5.99, I have to say it was really good. Definitely something I'd order again. I also want to mention the customer service. The girl working at the counter was extremely nice -- probably some of the best customer service I've had in a while. She didn't rush anything, answered my questions, and was very professional and friendly. I asked about the specials, the cakes they offer, and even whether they were doing a St. Patrick's Day platter, which they are. Overall, it was a really good experience. Good food, great drink, and excellent customer service. I'd definitely recommend stopping by Taylor Sam's if you're in the area.

Walking in felt like going to a carnival--bright, lively, and full of energy. I initially expected a simple diner, but I quickly realized it's much more; there are so many menu options that it was actually a bit overwhelming in the best way. My daughter ordered an iced vanilla latte along with a California omelette, which came with breakfast potatoes. I had a regular coffee and a croissant sandwich with bacon, ham, and cheese. They also have a great kids' menu. My granddaughter had a blueberry pancake with scrambled eggs on the side, and she absolutely loved it. The service was fantastic--our server was very attentive throughout our visit. The ambiance was also perfect for a mid-Friday morning: lively but still comfortable. Overall, a great first visit, and I can see why my daughter enjoys coming here so often.

BEST BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST EVER!!!…read more Brought my bestie here in Dec for her birthday- she has never been!! sat by the carousel and ordered a way!! We ordered a ginormous shake of course to start the celebration and the breakfast, lots of happy kids there that Sunday, but the best was watching her enjoy the shake and her waffles with strawberries. Is it crowded yes, are kids laughing smiling and being loud and having fun yes! but everyone is having fun and that is the atmosphere here! The menu is extensive, and when I say there is something for everyone, there is literally something for everyone.

It feels a bit more style over substance in my opinion. Let's start with the positives first! The place itself is very stylish, and we loved the holiday decor! Honestly, just walking towards the building felt like you were being transported into a mini Christmas village. The menu is vast and looks enticing. The place has a great vibe, with a good amount of seating (indoor & outdoor). Definitely makes for a great meeting and study spot! Now onto food and drinks...the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Frappuccino was not good. It was so overrun with cinnamon, you could see the chunks throughout the drink. I love cinnamon, but that's all you tasted and not in a good way. We barely got through it. The serving was large considering the $8 price tag, but the quality was just not there. The pistachio latte was definitely a bit better, but not great. You could taste that bottled syrup flavor and it just wasn't done right. The pistachio croissant was decent. Definitely fresh, with a nice, soft texture, but the Pistachio frosting was super sweet! I think I probably would have preferred it plain. The place definitely has potential, so if they can up their drink game a bit, I'd be open to possibly giving it another go!
