This restaurant recently switched locations and is now much closer to "our" side of town, so we were excited to try it out. I agree with some other reviews-new place, but same flat food choices. We were here for breakfast, and everything was "a la carte". What should have been $25 plus tip for 4 people was nearly $40, and the food left a lot to be desired. I could have made better at home on my own. While I do LOVE the fact that this is a local family business that has been a staple to the town for decades, I feel like they could kick it up a bit and make some changes. I also absolutely love what they have turned "the old blue diner" into-which is a comfortable, friendly & warm location. My only hope is that they up the ante a bit with their food. Do I have to give this one star? Really? Went in for breakfast over the weekend and ordered softly scrambled eggs, which came out way over cooked; breakfast potatoes, which were burnt and cold and the biscuit and gravy special, the gravy tasted like flour and the biscuit was way over cooked. Really disappointed as I've only found one other diner in the area I really like. I was hoping to add this place as a go to restaurant, but there is absolutely no chance I'll go back. If only one item was off, I'd give it another chance, but EVERYTHING was bad. read more

Having had occasion to eat breakfast here several times recently, I have to either disagree with many of these reviews, or deduce that something has changed for the better. I eat pretty much the same thing every morning: 3 eggs sunny, homefries, sausage, and white toast. In all instances, everything was cooked perfectly, though the sausages were of the small and skinny type, which aren't my favorite. Also, I found it to be very inexpensive compared to the same meal at other diners, so I genuinely don't understand the complaint registered by another reviewer on that subject. How can you expect breakfast for four to be $25? At most places, that's breakfast for two. At any rate, I thoroughly enjoyed my quiet morning meals at The Mug Rack, and will assuredly return when I am in the area. The servers were friendly and attentive, the food was quickly brought to the table (booth, really), and prepared perfectly. There really is nothing more one can ask. read more

Even though they were crowded when we walked in, we were seated promptly. But then we sat for almost ten minutes before being given menus or offered drinks. I asked for coffee, but then had to wait another five minutes b cause they were out and were brewing another pot. I do t know how a DI er rubs out of coffee. We ordered our food after I had to tell the waitress we were ready to order. Who needs more than five minutes at a diner at breakfast? The food came fast and was very good. But then more coffee problems. I ate my entire meal without being offered a single refill. I actually had to ask for more coffee. This is really unheard of. All in all, I'll say the meal was good, but the service could use a tweak. read more

We were looking for somewhere to have breakfast before going to six flags and we found this place, we got here around 9:30 on a Sunday and we got to sit right away, the ambiance is simple but some of the booth seats were a little ripped up and covered with duck tape, we were greeted warmly by the staff and our server was nice and friendly. The menu had all sorts of breakfast items and others too, my girlfriend ordered a Belgian waffle with strawberries and 2 scrambled eggs, I had an omelette with tomato, onions, spinach, Swiss cheese and bacon with hash browns and toast, however the bacon was not in the omelette even though we were charged for it, I didn't even mention it because I didn't realize until I was halfway done, the food was tasty, fresh and we ate it all, this place is simple but awesome, you get big servings for a small price, our check was just over $20, if ever in the area I would return. read more

Great breakfast & lunch spot. Centrally located in town. Steak & eggs breakfast is my favorite meal here. Never disappointed with my meal here no matter what I choose. Staff is always friendly & helpful. The Mug Rack App is also a plus. If you frequent here you really should get the App. read more

Good food, they could step up the service a notch (some better training for their younger staff might go a long way... i.e. don't walk past dirty dishes several times without bussing them, don't stick the syrup dispenser under your arm when you're bussing a table because no one really wants to use it after its been there) but not so bad that I wouldn't return. read more

If I could give it no stars I would. The waitress; blonde hair and glasses is so rude and disrespectful. There was a hair in my boyfriends burger and we notified her nicely and she ripped the plate away. When coming back we said thank you and she kind of just threw it down and walked away. My son and I eat here every single Tuesday. Without fail! Even when sick, Tuesday means Mug Rack so we order it as take out. There is nothing that I have had that I didn't like. This is definitely a solid place now. 5 stars for food and place, maybe 4 stars for service and 2 stars for bus boy and rest rooms. I say this because no paper towels which has been proven more sanitary than air blowers and Bus boy looked like he wanted to be elsewhere which kind of hurt the mood. Could use less advertising in menus, real distraction. I was always scared to go to old location. I went 11-24-13 and the food and portions were fantastic. I would even say better than Perkins if not equal. To me, place was bustling and food was real good. Place was all redone except for maybe parts of bathrooms. Coffee is just like Perkins which is really just average. Hopefully they will get better coffee, open more hours, and perhaps put a little fireplace in and get some nice couches for evenings. This could be a fantastic place and it is pretty good for breakfast. The really have no competition now in Jackson. It is hands down best place. I will update this if anything changes. I am also hoping there will be a concerted effort toward uniforms or better dress. Now the staff is disheveled-- hostess in tight jeans, long haired angry busboy.... I came here before I had to make a court appearance down the street, so I was in somewhat of a rush. I walked in and was immediately welcomed and seated. The waitress came right over and took my order. Food was out quickly and it tasted good. I got an omelette and hash browns and toast. The veggies in the omelette weren't as seasoned as I like, but their hot sauce made up for it. The waitress came to check on me and was friendly and nice. There were a lot of old timers and locals eating at the restaurant. The only down side was that there was a fly buzzing around, which is always annoying. read more

Never again will I go to this "diner". The food was terrible. I ordered Pancakes, Breakfast Potato's, and Bacon. My wife ordered French Toast. My pancakes were tough, the breakfast potato's were soggy and cold and did not seem to be fresh, and the bacon was ice cold. My wife's french toast was cold in the middle and uncooked with raw egg dripping out. She was so grossed out after a bite that she lost her appetite. Also, the service was slow even though the place had under 10 people in it. read more

We live nearby and have been to the Mug Rack twice - once for breakfast and had dinner there tonight. During both visits the service was extremely fast and the wait staff were friendly and outgoing. Breakfast portions are huge and you get the home cooking you come to expect at a NJ diner. My family had a variety of dishes for dinner. Fish and Chips were excellent and so were the hot open face turkey sandwiches. The red skin mashed potatoes were also a hit. I definitely recommend this place to families in the Jackson area. read more

We are doing a "staycation" this year due to COVID, we decided to stay home & explore our own local area eateries which we've heard of but never been. This morning we ordered from Mug Rack, through Grubhub. It kept popping up for the last few weeks and I didnt feel like making breakfast this morning. Great choice on my part. The food was so delicious! We went a little overboard in ordering quite a lot of food ( believe it or not, for under $30!!). Since it was the first time ordering, we had no clue how huge the portions were. The owner is super nice, he called to make sure we really did want all those hash browns (still clueless I said "absolutely" LOL). We had ordered two breakfast platters, a two piece French Toast, two pancakes, a side of bacon and of course all those hash browns!! We ate quite a bit of it -- with a some left for later. While it was all incredible, the pancakes were probably the best I've had in a long time--They are huge and dont know what the secret is, but they were wonderful. Even my husband commented on them. We will be ordering again and hope to come into the restaurant one day. We are eager to try the lunch menu now as well! read more

I came here with my wife on a whim and was very happy that I did. The restaurant is a family run business and the menu tells the story of the family. So before our food came we were already invested. The food was great. I ordered a hot open turkey with Steak fries and macaroni Salad and it was really very good. Lots of food and really tasty. The home made macaroni was great. My wife ordered a make your own Greek omelette that she said was the probably the best she's ever had. Chock full of feta, tomatoes and onions. She loved it. I have had breakfast and lunch. Both times the food was mediocre. The last time I ate there I had a cheeseburger deluxe, the fries were good, but the burger was very salty and was falling apart in the middle. For breakfast I had an omelet with home fries. The home fries had some kind of seasoning that I didn't like. The service for lunch was not great. Young waitresses texting, you can hear all the conversations they are having while you are eating. We went here for breakfast and were immediately seated. I had the usual 2 eggs over easy with English muffin and thought it was good. Hubs had blueberry pancake and thought it was ok but the blueberries had a funny after taste because it was frozen blueberries. Daughter had the Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap and thought it was good. Service was VERY slow. The food took forever to come out. We thought they forgot us for a while there. The table in back of us changed twice by the time we got our meal and finished it. Such a great local diner..... Immaculate, friendly, warm staff. Stopped in for breakfast, ordered a spinach and feta omelette, which was fresh and delicious. Regrettably, I neglected to take a picture to post. It was the best omelette because it was perfectly prepared and stuffed with a ton of spinach and the perfect amount of feta. I eat there a lot and I'm real happy with the new location. I like the sandwiches that are generously piled high with fresh ingredients. My daughter in law was impressed with both the friendly service and quality of the food. I've seen some negative comments but people have to remember this is a diner with a limited menu, not a four star restaurant. The place is always packed and I have learned to always eat at a place where parking is difficult and you may have to wait for food. The Mug Rack is crowded for a reason. read more
