This is a quaint place to eat and sit and talk with friends. The food was great and a lot of it, and a great selection of teas and coffees. Eugene our waiter was a delight. Complication upon arrival with reservation made by phone yesterday for 8:30am this morning. and received a confirmation on Yelp early this morning which I confirmed to be told when we arrived that they 'don't do weekend reservations'. (Btw, we are local and this was the 2nd time I attended on Saturday morning and had weekend reservations since they opened) - so this made it puzzling and restaurant was empty so wondered why was this an issue? Probably should have left after this truthfully. Plenty of options at 8:15-8:30am to walk in and eat at. So if you made a weekend reservation - be leery. To start, the menu has a wide variety of options to choose from with all of them being super unique and absolutely delicious. I tried the Summer in Venice toast and I'm not even kidding- it was the best toast I've ever had. I also ordered their famous Mermaid Latte and it was the perfect blend of cinnamon and coconut. Eugene, our server, was a delight and totally on the ball. Ask for him if you can. The owner, Melanie, made her birthday extra special and was very personable and every table. Rating is really 4.75, but I don't readily give out five stars. Ironically, service was their downfall. Specifically service related to their handheld ordering device wielded by servers. It's not reliable. I ordered fruit salad as my free side. They brought out regular salad. They did replace at no cost. If they had just gone old school, they'd have gotten five stars. Food is amazing. (Drip coffee needs to be a bit stronger.) I ordered the omelette Genovese. Melanie (owner) could pay off her mortgage if she sold that recipe. I've never had a better omelette anywhere. Melanie seems to genuinely care about her restaurant, her staff, her customers. For example, before seating me, she "warned" me they'd be celebrating newlyweds dining there, so I wouldn't be caught off guard. Her kindness allowed all of us strangers to share in the joy of those newlyweds! It's called The Modern Rose. Be prepared for modern... Victorian. Got here just as she was closing up. The owner was so gracious and let us in as we were so hot and tired.
