Amazing coffee stop! I love it here so much. My second time coming since the first was so memorable! Food is amazing - we ordered the Nutella toast. Matcha is delicious here! They just do not have soy milk but hopefully soon! Great service, everyone is so friendly and beautiful minimalist decor!

Lemon ricotta toast + iced latte with simple syrup

Ordered an iced latte and a lemon ricotta toast. Iced latte- 3/5: my normal go to is a vanilla iced latte. They don't have flavored syrups which is fine, so I got an iced latte with simple syrup. The coffee was good, nothing crazy. It was pretty small. Lemon ricotta toast- 2/5: I liked the toast, definitely something more unique and the texture is there. The toast itself also gives a strong kind of grainy/nutty taste. I disliked the jam but just a personal preference since it tasted like apple to me and I don't like apple flavored dishes. I expected the toast to be more on the sweet side. I just think the taste is not for me. But I would try the other flavored toasts. Seating & ambience: there are good amount of seats and super spacious shop. It was quite busy even between 4-5pm (near closing). Overall, there was nothing too impressive but still a solid coffee shop and unique toast options. Loved the ambience though!

Very good coffee. Delicious toasts, especially the avocado. Perhaps the best in sf. Nice interior but a bit chaotic/hard to sit Good location near Alamo park for to go coffee

Been wanting to try this place for a while and glad I got to finally try it! It's so spacious with lots of seating and love the openness of the place! They had interesting food options so I'm glad I got to try a few! We tried the avocado toast and the chocolate toast and both were yum! I got a latte and my friend got a peppermint latte and we both liked our drinks! Will be back again!

Not a fan of cafes where most patrons have laptops open and are taking up all the spaces. Pretty decor in The Mill with art on the wall by local artists. They have a big community table, seats against the wall with school style armrests for coffee cups. Also small round tables generously spaced. The Mill's bread is famous as well as their pricey avocado toast. I had a matcha latte with oat milk to go ($8). Wish I could have tried some pastry or bread but honestly I can't afford more than this drink.

Bread is so yummy!! Lots of seating indoors though it does get taken up pretty quickly. Ambiance is an industrial vibe which I loved. We got the cinnamon sugar toast and loved the bread texture. Though it did feel like I was eating a mouthful of sugar, it was perfect for sharing! Maybe I'll try something else next time. Drinks were decent--what you'd expect from a standard coffee shop!

Nice location with plenty of seating space. I loved the outdoor patio. Service is fast served with quality.

Always nice to be back at The Mill. Big, airy, and positive vibes float throughout as fun music plays. The toasts here are solid, I've enjoyed the cinnamon and sugar one in the past. This time I tried the lemon, ricotta, and jam. It was good but probably not my favorite one. Still always a good spot to stop in at for a quintessential San Francisco experience.

Best bakery in SF in my opinion. I've tried many of their toasts, but the avocado toast is unbeatable. The sour, salt, and oil balance is perfect, and the thick bread underneath ties it all together. Their coffee is excellent too. They also have rotating art installations, which make the space feel fresh and inspiring every time you visit. Only downside is there's almost always a line. But with a little patience, you can usually find a seat.

If you love a good slice of toast- look no further than the mill, it's got a various selection of fancy toasts with great toppings- a nice thick homemade slice of toast also, with great quality toppings- and a pastry selection in store for that extra sweet treat from a local bakery and a selection of good coffees. I come here for the toast- great for a snack or light lunch, nice airy cafe with good seating- there is a big communal table inside great for solo visitors to sit and relax, work, chill, people watch, start conversations with neighbors- whatever you are feeling. They usually have a seasonal toast which is always great for the fresh seasonal ingredients- but you also can't go wrong with their egg in a hole toast or the cinnamon sugar one- all great. There is outdoor seating too for anyone with bigger dogs or wanting a little extra sunshine. Service always friendly and relatively quick at getting your order ready- they call out your name to collect at the service counter when ready.

Don't let the line deter you! It moves really fast. Not much seating inside but there's this super long table that we got two seats at and talked to some other couples about our food. We ordered the toast special: Caramelized Onion Chevre w/ Arugula & Pistachio topped with shallot thyme dressing & togarashi served on whole grain wonderbread. Very fancy name for the fanciest toast I've ever had. Worth every penny. The matcha on the other hand... just tasted like milk. Looked very green though. Even went back to ask for more matcha, but it still tasted like milk. Lesson learned. Come here for the toast, not the drinks.

Great neighborhood coffee spot. I love their cinnamon toast the most! When you can find seating it's a great place but lots of people hang here with their computers so I try to get everything to go but their products are good.

Bread, bread, bread all around! Looking to fulfill a carb craving with a moist piece of toast, paired with tasty toppings? The Mill is the place to go! Although simple, each Toast dish is mouth watering and satiates your morning hunger. The sage compound butter with the Egg-in-a-hole was to die for! Yes, the dish itself looks very simple, but the in complexity from the ingredients is shown. In terms of seating, this place is a bit of a cattle call. You order at the front and dishes are brought to you via number stands. As such, it's a free for all for claiming a table for you and your party. Fair warning, this place gets busy so you might have to stand around for a bit, but I promise your patience is well worth the wait. This is the perfect place to catch up with a friend and thrive under the hum of a Sunday morning yap session.

    Which desserts are the best?

I am hoping to pick-up 3 - 4 loaves of the large country bread on a Saturday morning. Is there usually a good supply in the morning, or is there a limit to how many you can pick up?

There is a good supply in the morning. I don't think there is a limit but perhaps ask the bakery.

Is the Mill currently open for indoor seating?

Yea, they require vaccination and id but are open for indoor and outdoor seating.

Do they have syrup options for their lattes?

We do not offer syrups, but we do have raw sugar available.

    Is there WiFi here?

We do not have Wifi at this time.

Are they still doing pizza nights/when's pizza night?

Hopefully pizza night's will be up and running by the end of the 2021 year!

Does The Mill have air conditioning?

    Yes!

When is the best time to get a hot loaf?

As early as you can get there. They sometimes bake additional loaves during the afternoon, but the morning guarantees you the best selection.

Do they have outlets for chargers (e.g., phone, laptop, etc.)?

    No outlets

    How's the parking here?

all street parking. It's near Alamo square park though, so you might get lucky.

If you buy a loaf of bread do they have a bread slicer to cut it for you?

I've never seen it done, but I'm sure they would!

    Is the bread vegan?

Yes. Water flour yeast salt in "Wonderbread" -- whole wheat wonderbread also includes rice flour and cornmeal. You can check out his recipes in his book "Josey Baker Bread" My favorite toast is wonderbread with almond butter and honey and a… Read more

The pistachio cardamom croissant is the bomb, I would get multiples next time. Their savory pastries are amazing too- got the herby olive twist. The Orange rosemary was super good as well, such an amalgamation of flavors and texture. They were sold out of the Coffee Caramel Pain Au Chocolat and a couple other pastries, so missed those. I could see the balloon that held all of the anticipated excitement my husband had of showing me a "new" spot (it was new to me) all but heartbreakingly deflate. Sigh. Not wanting that crestfallen look to prevail, I told him we'd try again. A hole in the wall that is takeout only, the customarily drab sunset weather doesn't do the vibe any favors out here. When it's overcast & cold outside, does anyone want cold pineapple buns to go with it? That was my first experience, so I was curious about how the do over was going to go. Night & day... Yelpess with the mostess Cherylynn was spot on when she said the buns need to be warm & eaten asap. This is key to experiencing a stellar treat over a humdrum one. On our 2nd visit they were hot. They were pillowy. They were divine. Gloomy sunset weather? It could be RAINING outside & I wouldn't care right now. It was a total 180. Butter. Do it! I suggest you go for the gold, kerrygold Irish butter. Matcha. I love matcha so it's an automatic order but it's a definite winner. Not too sweet, because matcha isn't naturally sweet. Custard. The Ube filling BAKES INTO the interior & it is amazing! I wished I'd gotten 6 of these. The puffs. How friggin adorable. Just throw in 6 puffs. Or 18. Then dip them in the side of custard that comes with. If you get extra to take home (& you should), all you have to do is be sure to reheat them as per the directions on the box. Just place them on a baking sheet lined with foil, or an oven rack (I've done both, both work), at 325 for around 10 minutes. I think 12-15 minutes is actually ideal. I couldn't believe how soft they were after this. Like new! The next day, after being refrigerated all night! I know weird, but fact! A couple of days later I requested that we go again next Saturday. Like when you were a kid & you couldn't wait for Friday because Friday's were pizza night. Lovingly, they arranged for us to meet up for dinner Friday night. We had discussed with my cousins before visiting them that my wife wanted to check out two renowned bakeries in the Bay Area, Tartine and Arizmendi. My cousin and her husband graciously and kindly offered to drive us around downtown San Francisco Saturday morning to visit these bakeries and we had such a great time on our personalized Bay Area foodie tour narrated by my well-informed cousin-in-law (CIL). Our first stop on this belly stuffing foodie tour was Tartine, which served one of the yummiest almond croissants I've ever eaten. That pastry alone warrants a visit to this highly rated and highly reviewed bakery. Since our CIL was in the know about The City's downtown eateries and bakeries, he recommended that we start out early to visit Tartine because he said that lines to these places could get crazy long. Thankfully for us, we got to Tartine before it opened and were second in line to enter. Tartine is a well chronicled bakery with locations around the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Seoul, Korea. The location we visited is on Guerrero and 18th streets in the Mission District and it's across from Pay And Save Grocery. Parking might be challenging with street and metered parking. As soon as you enter the bakery, there's a hipster and local mom and pop business vibe. You're greeted by glass cases displaying beautiful cakes, pastries, breads, loaves, scones, and cookies. There are stool seats and elevated chairs where you can eat on planks of wood either facing the steady flow of customers or looking outside. I liked how there were paintings hanging from what appeared to be from local artists. The staff were friendly and took care of us pretty quickly. Tartine was our first stop in what would be a fun foodie adventure. Since I always start my day with a cup of coffee, I ordered caramel cappuccino. The foam on top had a beautifully designed heart from the barista, but I like my coffee sweet and after my first sip, I knew I had to add some type of sweetener. I used a lot of their complimentary honey to make it sweeter. My wife, who works in the baking industry, had placed Tartine on her list of places she wanted to visit to experience their scones and pastries. If my wife knew about this bakery, then I knew that I'd be indulging in baked goods of the highest caliber. Of course I let my wife pick what she thought were the best items, but I asked the customer who was the first person in line what Tartine was known for and she said their almond croissants, so when it was our turn to make our selections, I asked for Tartine's Frangipane Croissant, which has almond-cream filling and brandy. Brandy?!!?? Honestly, I don't remember tasting any brandy, but what I do remember was flakiness of the croissant, the thick cut almonds on top, the heartiness of the croissant, and the generous amount of almond-cream filling. It was a beautiful looking pastry and the taste was even better. Seriously, one of the most memorable croissants I've ever eaten. My family and I are blessed to have family willing to take time out of their morning to take us on a guided foodie tour to some iconic bakeries and local eateries. Our first bakery stop was Tartine and after eating that delectable almond croissant, the other bakeries would be hard pressed to beat them.

Our cousins were familiar with both bakeries and graciously volunteered to be our foodie guides as we drove to these two bakeries Saturday morning. After visiting Tartine and B Patisserie, Arizmendi was our final bakery and our last stop on our Bay Area foodie tour. Just like the other two bakeries, Arizmendi was a popular destination, it was different than the other two in the selection of the pastries, and I highly recommend their corn cranberry scone and their cheese focaccia. Arizmendi is also located in the Mission District specifically on Valenica and 24th Street. The bakery is in between a Royal gas station and the KitTea Cat Lounge. Parking consists of street parking and just like the other bakeries, parking could be challenging, but Arizmendi is worth the trouble parking and walking to this confectionary paradise. This bakery is a business where their baked goods are enjoyed at home since there is minimal seating. What's unique about this bakery compared to the other two is how the baked goodies are selected. It is self serve where it's a little hectic trying to maneuver around other customers to pick the pastries and breads you desire. The young black lady behind the register who checked us out was courteous, friendly, and took care of us quickly. As you enter Arizmendi, there are four wooden display cases with plexiglass holding scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, pies, croissants, focaccia, cookies, and shortbreads. As you peer through the plexiglass to decide what to select, make sure to grab the provided wax to pick up your baked goods and place them in the provided bags. One of our friends asked us to grab scones, so scones were one of the items we knew we were going to purchase. My wife selected other items, but I asked her for a focaccia because my cousin said that Arizmendi was know for their pizza breads. I highly recommend you purchase their corn cranberry scones. These scones are hearty, the cranberry is plentiful, and I really enjoyed these while I was drinking a coffee at home. The focaccia I picked was a cheese focaccia made with poblanos, kale, and queso fresco. That square pizza bread was a savory revelation where I devoured that as snack after heating it in our home toaster oven. It was cheesy, the poblanos and kale were tasty, and I completely agreed with my cousin's assessment about their pizza bread. We're so grateful to our cousins for taking valuable time to serve as our foodie tour guides during our trip to San Francisco. Bay Area denizens are blessed to have three bakeries where they can satisfy their pastry, dessert, and bread cravings. We're fans of Arizmendi's scones and pizza bread.

They offer a variety of baked in house items that range from the savory ( mushroom and cheese "tart") to the sweet of banana croissant invention. EVERYTHING is tasty. Items are limited in quantity, so go early. The mushroom green onion tart is delish! It has a generous amount of mushrooms, manchego cheese, and light green onions. It's a lovely flavor profile. The only downside is that it's not given to you heated. Eating it cold was not optimal. The banana "tart" because I don't recall the exact name, is to die for! It's sweet, it's sooo good! It's like banana crack. It has caramelized parts to it, and you won't want to share it!! The double backed pistachio/blackberry croissant is a food group all its own. It's everything you want in a pastry! The Thai tea was just OK. Super pricey for the amount. It's not that traditional taste profile. The people that work at Neighbor big house are friendly, expedient with service, and this definitely needs to be on your secret places to try when you're visiting SF. It's not that we want to gatekeep, but you are gonna want all these pastries to yourself!
