    avocado toast
    Julie M.

Solid cafe in Nopa with ample natural lighting, an aesthetic shelf of goods for sale, and a good amount of seating, making this a nice place to catch up with a friend or work. Service was friendly :) I loved the ricotta cardamom bun! It was very fluffy, not toooo sweet, and the cardamom was not overpowering as it can often be in cardamom baked goods. The avocado toast was solid and I enjoyed their sourdough bread, though I'd probably skip this next time. The cappuccino was quite acidic / on the sour side which I personally don't like, but maybe others could enjoy. Would return to try more of their pastries and bask in the sunlight!

Lemon ricotta toast + iced latte with simple syrup
    Maddie L.

Ordered an iced latte and a lemon ricotta toast. Iced latte- 3/5: my normal go to is a vanilla iced latte. They don't have flavored syrups which is fine, so I got an iced latte with simple syrup. The coffee was good, nothing crazy. It was pretty small. Lemon ricotta toast- 2/5: I liked the toast, definitely something more unique and the texture is there. The toast itself also gives a strong kind of grainy/nutty taste. I disliked the jam but just a personal preference since it tasted like apple to me and I don't like apple flavored dishes. I expected the toast to be more on the sweet side. I just think the taste is not for me. But I would try the other flavored toasts. Seating & ambience: there are good amount of seats and super spacious shop. It was quite busy even between 4-5pm (near closing). Overall, there was nothing too impressive but still a solid coffee shop and unique toast options. Loved the ambience though!

Very good coffee. Delicious toasts, especially the avocado. Perhaps the best in sf. Nice interior but a bit chaotic/hard to sit Good location near Alamo park for to go coffee

Amazing coffee stop! I love it here so much. My second time coming since the first was so memorable! Food is amazing - we ordered the Nutella toast. Matcha is delicious here! They just do not have soy milk but hopefully soon! Great service, everyone is so friendly and beautiful minimalist decor!

Been wanting to try this place for a while and glad I got to finally try it! It's so spacious with lots of seating and love the openness of the place! They had interesting food options so I'm glad I got to try a few! We tried the avocado toast and the chocolate toast and both were yum! I got a latte and my friend got a peppermint latte and we both liked our drinks! Will be back again!

Not a fan of cafes where most patrons have laptops open and are taking up all the spaces. Pretty decor in The Mill with art on the wall by local artists. They have a big community table, seats against the wall with school style armrests for coffee cups. Also small round tables generously spaced. The Mill's bread is famous as well as their pricey avocado toast. I had a matcha latte with oat milk to go ($8). Wish I could have tried some pastry or bread but honestly I can't afford more than this drink.

    Egg in a hole

10/10. Absolutely unbearable spot for brunch or bread. One of my friends in DC told me that I *had* to try The Mill when I moved to SF -- she would always come here every time she visited and take a few loaves of sourdough back to DC with her -- and I can absolutely see why. The bread is absurdly tasty, with a great sourdough flavor blended with the heartiness of whichever whole grain they used in your bread of choice. Their toasts are a great way to sample the bread before committing to a whole loaf, and all of the toppings are outstanding. My favorites are their hummus toast and egg in a hole, both of which feature a super thick slice of their amazing bread, toasted to perfection and layered with tons of flavor. The egg in a hole comes with a perfectly poached egg with a gorgeous runny yolk, as well as a generous slathering of herb butter. The herbs really enhance the flavor of the bread, and I love the added richness from the egg. The hummus and tomato toast is just as delicious; the hummus gives the toast a lovely richness and creaminess, and the heirloom tomatoes add a fresh, sweet, and acidic bite. It's topped with a bit of olive oil and sea salt, which further enhance all the flavors. The toasts are undeniably expensive at $12-$20 each, but they're so very worth it. If you're not in a bread mood, they also have a ton of delicious pastries! I've only tried my classic chocolate croissant -- which was wonderfully buttery, flakey, and chocolatey -- but they have many other options, ranging from the classics to some more unique selections. For coffee, they're partnered with (or maybe a sister company of?) Four Barrel Coffee Roasters, so you can order their beautifully roasted beans here too. The espresso is wonderful on its own -- I love their americanos -- or in latte form. It can get extremely crowded here, especially on the weekends, so I'd either try to get here quite early or be prepared for a decently long wait, both to order and to find a spot to sit. There's a good amount of seating, including the usual small tables and chairs, a giant communal table with over ten seats, and a long bench with little arm rests / tables along the back wall. Even so, they are rightfully extremely popular, so you might still need to take your toast / pastries / coffee to an outdoor table or a nearby park.

Bread is so yummy!! Lots of seating indoors though it does get taken up pretty quickly. Ambiance is an industrial vibe which I loved. We got the cinnamon sugar toast and loved the bread texture. Though it did feel like I was eating a mouthful of sugar, it was perfect for sharing! Maybe I'll try something else next time. Drinks were decent--what you'd expect from a standard coffee shop!

Lemon ricotta with seasonal jam on dark mountainrye bread yummm

Always nice to be back at The Mill. Big, airy, and positive vibes float throughout as fun music plays. The toasts here are solid, I've enjoyed the cinnamon and sugar one in the past. This time I tried the lemon, ricotta, and jam. It was good but probably not my favorite one. Still always a good spot to stop in at for a quintessential San Francisco experience.

Best bakery in SF in my opinion. I've tried many of their toasts, but the avocado toast is unbeatable. The sour, salt, and oil balance is perfect, and the thick bread underneath ties it all together. Their coffee is excellent too. They also have rotating art installations, which make the space feel fresh and inspiring every time you visit. Only downside is there's almost always a line. But with a little patience, you can usually find a seat.

Don't let the line deter you! It moves really fast. Not much seating inside but there's this super long table that we got two seats at and talked to some other couples about our food. We ordered the toast special: Caramelized Onion Chevre w/ Arugula & Pistachio topped with shallot thyme dressing & togarashi served on whole grain wonderbread. Very fancy name for the fanciest toast I've ever had. Worth every penny. The matcha on the other hand... just tasted like milk. Looked very green though. Even went back to ask for more matcha, but it still tasted like milk. Lesson learned. Come here for the toast, not the drinks.

Nice location with plenty of seating space. I loved the outdoor patio. Service is fast served with quality.

    Cara M.

If you love a good slice of toast- look no further than the mill, it's got a various selection of fancy toasts with great toppings- a nice thick homemade slice of toast also, with great quality toppings- and a pastry selection in store for that extra sweet treat from a local bakery and a selection of good coffees. I come here for the toast- great for a snack or light lunch, nice airy cafe with good seating- there is a big communal table inside great for solo visitors to sit and relax, work, chill, people watch, start conversations with neighbors- whatever you are feeling. They usually have a seasonal toast which is always great for the fresh seasonal ingredients- but you also can't go wrong with their egg in a hole toast or the cinnamon sugar one- all great. There is outdoor seating too for anyone with bigger dogs or wanting a little extra sunshine. Service always friendly and relatively quick at getting your order ready- they call out your name to collect at the service counter when ready.

    Which desserts are the best?

I am hoping to pick-up 3 - 4 loaves of the large country bread on a Saturday morning. Is there usually a good supply in the morning, or is there a limit to how many you can pick up?

There is a good supply in the morning. I don't think there is a limit but perhaps ask the bakery.

Is the Mill currently open for indoor seating?

Yea, they require vaccination and id but are open for indoor and outdoor seating.

Do they have syrup options for their lattes?

We do not offer syrups, but we do have raw sugar available.

    Is there WiFi here?

We do not have Wifi at this time.

Are they still doing pizza nights/when's pizza night?

Hopefully pizza night's will be up and running by the end of the 2021 year!

Does The Mill have air conditioning?

    Yes!

When is the best time to get a hot loaf?

As early as you can get there. They sometimes bake additional loaves during the afternoon, but the morning guarantees you the best selection.

Do they have outlets for chargers (e.g., phone, laptop, etc.)?

    No outlets

    How's the parking here?

all street parking. It's near Alamo square park though, so you might get lucky.

If you buy a loaf of bread do they have a bread slicer to cut it for you?

I've never seen it done, but I'm sure they would!

    Is the bread vegan?

Yes. Water flour yeast salt in "Wonderbread" -- whole wheat wonderbread also includes rice flour and cornmeal. You can check out his recipes in his book "Josey Baker Bread" My favorite toast is wonderbread with almond butter and honey and a… Read more

The Mocha with the house made nut milk fell flat. It needed something. I am not a fan of syrupy coffees and appreciate the more purist approach but this one just didn't do anything for me. The chai latte which I would never order was actually the best chai latte I have ever had, it was smooth like silk. Maybe I just had the wrong coffee order. Besides that, got the hot chocolate and the coffee tasting. I was surprised there was no explanation provided with the coffee- I figured it's all Honduran but an overview of some sort would have helped. I enjoyed all the coffees in there except the latte. Will visit again, earlier in the day so they are not out of their best sellers and try a different order.

Kiss of Matcha is a dessert café centered around matcha-based drinks and Japanese-inspired sweets…read more We walked into a cozy, compact space with a focus on matcha flavors, offering everything from soft serve and parfaits to lattes, hojicha drinks, and small desserts. The concept works well for anyone looking for a place that treats matcha as the main ingredient rather than just adding it as a trendy flavor, and the energy of the shop stays calm and inviting, making it a good spot for a focused dessert stop. The biggest highlight is the matcha soft serve, which has a stronger tea flavor compared to many sweeter matcha desserts. We ordered a cup and found the flavor leaning slightly earthy and bitter, giving it a more authentic matcha profile while still staying creamy and approachable. The Kiss of Matcha Parfait is another standout, combining different textures with matcha, toppings, and dessert elements that make it feel more complete than a simple scoop. The layers of the parfait were well composed, with the matcha soft serve, mochi, and crunchy elements coming together in a way that kept each bite interesting. The hojicha options are also worth trying if you prefer a roasted tea flavor that is smoother and less intense, and the hojicha soft serve offered a warm, toasted note that contrasted nicely with the brighter matcha. The menu has a nice mix of drinks and desserts, with items like croffles, mochi, and dango adding more variety beyond the usual matcha latte. The croffle is a good pairing with the drinks since the crisp texture works well with the richer flavors, and we found it held up well against the cream and toppings. There are also non-matcha options like vanilla soft serve, which makes it easier to visit with a group where everyone has different preferences, and the variety across the menu gives you room to explore beyond the matcha offerings. The space is smaller, so it feels more like a quick dessert stop rather than a place to spend hours. Seating is limited, but the cozy decoration and outdoor seating options make it a comfortable spot to enjoy your order when space is available. The indoor area is thoughtfully arranged, and the outdoor seating adds a nice option for warmer days. Service can vary depending on how busy it gets, but the overall experience is centered more around the quality of the desserts, and the staff are friendly and efficient when handling the flow of orders. Kiss of Matcha is a strong choice for matcha lovers looking for desserts with a deeper tea flavor. The combination of quality matcha, creative dessert options, and a cozy atmosphere makes it a spot worth returning to, especially if you enjoy trying different matcha creations. The balance of authentic flavors, thoughtful presentation, and a relaxed environment makes it a destination for a more intentional matcha experience.

Brief Summary: - New favorite place to eat mille crepe cake…read more- Not so sweet, easy to eat - Beautiful and peaceful interior - Near the MUNI N line I was looking for a new cake place to try, so when I searched for one in San Francisco, this one appeared in the first page. It was near the districts I like to go, and because I haven't been there in a while, I thought it was a good opportunity to visit here. This cake shop is very close to one of the MUNI line stops if you take the N line. The store had a sign propped up with the list of the mille crepe cakes and some of the chiffon. The basque cheesecake selection were not one there, so I assume that these are new items. The interior of this shop is so cute. It's as if I walked in a quaint early spring environment. The initial plan was to buy the cakes to take home, but I was now interested to stay to have a drink before buying the cake. There were seats in the further end of the building, so we sat there, relaxed while drinking coffee. I ordered 3 different cakes of different flavors - earl grey mille crepe cake - pandan chiffon cake - tiramisu basque cheese cake If someone asked me which one I liked the most, I would take time deciding because I loved all of them. All of them were not so sweet and also easier to eat; even the basque cheesecake. I showed the basque cheesecake photo to my colleague, and they were surprised: 'it's almost like having 2 cakes in 1!' was the memorable response to it. I also loved the mille crepe cake. This one left a fun and colorful impression of crepe cakes. I got the earl grey and I loved how it was almost like drinking an earl grey tea at the same time. I tasted the bergamot oil from the tea. I also liked how the crepe cake was overall moist and juicy (I wonder if it's because I chose a tea themed crepe cake?) I love the chiffon cake, and this also topped with the bias of me loving pandan. I was also surprised that the cream area was not just cream but packed with coconut meat. It gave a nice chewy flavor in between the cushion soft cake layer. The cake top decoration is so subtle yet gorgeous, it's a great cake to serve on celebrations too.

The nuts were not fresh and crunchy. I liked the tiramisu much better but it's not in anyway better than a real tiramisu cake. It was interesting to eating thin layers of pancakes nicely frosted with cream. It is obviously a labor of love to make. There's a lot of different flavors but I'm on the fence about trying another one.
