My parents, sister, husband, and I went to The Mill on a Saturday night to celebrate a few family birthdays. My dad had already been here for lunch, and had had a good experience. Our reservations were made a week ahead of time for 6:15 PM. At about 6:35, my mom went up to the hostess stand, where she had to wait for about 5 minutes to talk to someone. They told her they could add a chair to a table and seat us. They took our buzzer and we all approached the hostess stand, only to stand there for another several minutes, with no one even giving us a second glance. It took me going up again to ask when a table would be available for us to finally get seated. There was definitely a MAJOR lack of communication at the front of the house. The one woman, who MAY have been in charge there, told me that they were running about ten to fifteen minutes behind. We got seated around 6:50, which was over a HALF HOUR after our reservation time. Let's just say that this pregnant lady was NOT pleased. Once seated, our waitress approached fairly quickly to explain the history of the building and get out drink orders. She seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about the area and menu. My husband ordered the tuna bowl, my dad and sister the veal short rib, and my mom and I the scallops. My dad loved the flavors of his short rib (as did my sister), and my husband commented that the quality of the tuna was very good. It was seated nicely. My mom and I both loved the scallops. They were quality and seasoned well. The lemon grits that they sat on were also great, even though I have never liked grits. The pickled watermelon added a nice touch, and had a really interesting flavor. The chef is clearly talented. The bread was lacking, but maybe their focus is more on good entrees. There is definitely room for improvement in that area though. The atmosphere of The Mill is awesome. The rustic, yet modern look fits Hershey nicely. The food is great, but management needs work. The woman at the front desk wasn't rude, but she certainly wasn't nice either. It is obvious that they are overbooking, and while no new place wants to turn people away, if they really want to try the place, and can understand when a place is busy, they will come back. Unfortunately, when you leave a bad taste in people's mouths (in the form of poor management, not poor food), customers may not come back. Hershey is a small town, and word spreads quickly. This restaurant was at the top of our list for our annual father-daughter dinner, but my dad has vowed he will not return. I would be willing to give it a second shot, but they MUST improve the management beforehand. read more

First time here and the service was outstanding! I ordered the sausage and mashed potatoes which was delicious and my husband ordered the strip steak and he enjoyed it. My son ordered the pork and it was good but a little fatty. Without even asking the manager removed his meal from our check and apologized for the pork being fatty. Good caring staff. So Ive been to the Mill twice and had sub par experiences both times. The building is beautiful and its so nice to have something new in Hershey, but the food is way overpriced, and not nearly as good as other nearby fine dining. The first time I came here was opening week, and they ran out of the first 3 entrees I tried to order. When only $36 steaks were left on the menu, I wasn't interested, so I paid the babysitter $50, and didn't even get to eat an entree. In all fairness, this was opening week, and management was great and gave me a gift card for a free dinner on my next visit. My next visit was this past week. All food was in stock as far as I know, and they had expanded their menu a bit, which was good allowing more choices, and one dish at $20. Average entree here is around $26-$35. The apple salad tasted great and had a nice layout, however it was super small. Crab cakes tasted very good but were 90% filler. Im from Baltimore and know the difference in a good crab cake. Butternut squash puree and kale was excellent. Overall this restaurant is super modern and fun, but too overpriced for this kind of place. Hubby and I are in our mid to late 30's and would love to frequent a restaurant with this feel, but $26-$36 entrees, while sitting at hightop tables, next to the bar, doesn't match in our minds. They would do much better with slightly lower prices. For fine dining prices, we want a more luxurious romantic feel. read more

Never had a bad meal until I dined at The Mill. "Bartender" should go back to bartending school. How can you screw up a Bloody Mary? It was very salty, weak alcohol and tomato juice. Crab sandwich messy with frisee lettuce as a filler. Pumpkin mousse cake tasteless. Great ambiance and excellent server, Jared W., couldn't make up for this awful dining experience. I recently brought a group of friends to The Mill for Sunday Brunch and we had the most amazing experience! The food was awesome but the service and drinks were even better! We had Marin as our server and she was fantastic! She is so sweet and personable and we never waited for food or a drink. She provided top notch service! Our group pretty much tried every drink on the brunch and seasonal menu and the bartender, Justine, did an amazing job. Everything was fabulous. Even the hostess was wonderful to talk to when we had a last minute addition to our party. She was so sweet and helpful and worked it out for us at the last minute. Very, very disappointed in this place........ I was looking forward to a nice brunch on the patio. Started off with a tasty pumpkin White Russian. We actually should have stopped there. Next I ordered chicken and waffles. Big mistake! A food runner brought out our meal (not the waitress). It looked okay but the bacon topping was half well done and the other half of the same piece was not really even cooked. Okay ignore the topping. I cut off a piece of the waffle and it was okay. Looking at the waffle it was nicely browned towards the middle and not really browned at other places. There was a small amount of syrup towards the middle and that was where I cut my next piece. When I placed it in my mouth and chewed bitterness exploded. I flipped the waffle and the bottom was burned black with little black pieces of burnt disgusting (looked almost like scrapings of previously burnt food) attached to the entire bottom of my waffle. The chicken was partially cooked and partially uncooked. I decided to send the inedible meal back but after 45 minutes of waiting for the waitress to return, having brunch was now a distant memory. When the waitress finally returned I showed her the inedible meal she did apologize and took the charge off the bill. This was my first visit to the Mill and sadly my last. Most places would have at least offered some kind of comp to make up for the bad experience, poor service, and huge inconvenience. read more

Was in Hershey looking for a place for dinner. Wasn't feelin the touristy Hershey spots so decided to try out The Mill. Wow. First, the bldg is gorgeous. The detail that went into fixing the place up did not go unnoticed. It is stunning. The food is equally good. Dinner included Mill Burger with fries, Hawaiian marlin and apple soup. Maggie, was very friendly and shared her knowledge about surrounding places. Dessert could not be missed: pumpkin cream pie and chocolate nemesis. Delish. Skip the tourist traps and head to The Mill. So good! We've been here a few times and each time has been outstanding! They have some regular menu items but also original items. Definitely worth the price. It's not a large menu but everything is so well executed and cooked perfectly. Even the kids menu has a lot of good options and even has healthy side choices which I really appreciate. Recently, I had the sea scallops which can be hit or miss - but they were fabulous! Also save room for their cheesecake- so delicious! The decor is urban rustic but still contemporary casual. The staff is professional and attentive. All of the staff signed a card for my daughter on her birthday which was such a thoughtful gesture. You won't be disappointed! read more

We went last night with a large party (including 7 children) and they accommodated us with no problem. Our server, Ryan, was absolutely amazing! He handled us like an old pro. He made sure kids' food came out first and had a great attitude throughout the night despite the many demands a party like ours can make. My Wife and I have enjoyed many of our evenings at the Mill. Usually after a hard week of work a couple times a month. So I guess I might be a bit of a hypocrite for not writing about our many awesome times there. Sorry.. I expect great food and service from a established restaurant of this caliber and price. I mean look at the place it's beautiful. When I pulled a long hair out of my mouth and presented it to the Staff I was disappointed by the response. Of course I was offered a new meal followed by nervous giggles and attempts by my server to lighten the mood. In the end there was no visit by a Manager or any compensation offered. Which I would has probably turned down. We don't believe in making a fuss. Just offering some helpful advice. Treat your customers in a way that makes them feel good about spending their time and money here . read more

We decided to stop in at this restaurant after searching through places in the area. The building itself was very clean and neat, as they remodeled a historic building. The building itself was just overall amazing. The staff was inviting and our waitress was attentive and friendly. We tried 3 appetizers and 1 entree between 4 of us and it was more than enough. Everything we ate from start to finish was worthy of a 5 star review. The bathrooms were large and clean. Obviously solid food, no arguing this, however, the price are just a little high for what you get. There are comparable restaurants in the area with similar quality and menus that you will get larger portions even for less than the mill charges. Im in no ways cheap, and Ill gladly pay for good food, and Ill even perhaps return to the Mill one day. But ultimately, I most likely will not. This place will do well Im sure with A++ food, a solid location, very cool ambiance, and affluent community and tourists galore, but locals beware. read more

We had a reservation for brunch at the Hershey Hotel and when we arrived we learned that they had a power outage. Being restaurant owners we were greatly sympathetic though disappointed. Our grandson who lives near Harrisburg suggested The Mill. We were fortunate to find a table in this comfortable beautiful restaurant. The Benedicts, omelettes, steaks, specials we ordered were no less than perfect. The service was quiet, thoughtful, praiseworthy. Above and beyond the great experience of good food and service the owner mailed back a hat we had left at our table...no charge for time, trip to post office or postage. Extraordinary in the days of mediocre food and service. We will be back and share our good find with everybody we know. read more

This review is for the restaurants customer service. Restaurant hours on their website are posted between 11am-11pm and we unfortunately arrived at 9:50pm and the restaurant refused to serve us because they claimed the kitchen had closed. Seriously? I have been to multiple restaurants in the past where we arrived 50 mins before closing but nonetheless they still served us. I would've understood if we had gotten there at 10:30 but it wasn't even 10. It's too bad because the restaurant looked super cute but for us customer service is what makes or brakes a restaurant and for that we will not attempt to try it out in the future. read more

Great farm to table restaurant with a nice atmosphere and outdoor patio which had live music Highly recommend the PEI mussels as an appetizer I had the crab cake sandwich with addictive hand cut fries, the crab cake was made with lots of jumbo crab and seasoning was perfect Kids ordered from the kids menu and was enjoyed by both and was a good value My wife ordered the BBQ brisket which she loved and all portions were generous Our waitress was really great very personable, knew the menu inside and out and liked the fact that she didn't have to recite the specials off of a cheat sheet Highly recommend this as a place to go after a long day at the park!!! read more

The hot new place in Hershey wasn't that hot, we made reservations a week in advance and still had to eat at 4:30 pm, as we sat at the bar waiting for others in our group, we waited and waited for the bartender to help us, we got a Bloody Mary and a troegs beer and the tab was a whopping $16. $6 for a Troegs beer really!!!come on, We were taken to the bottom floor, it was empty except for a large group of 10 people who were a course noisy as hell, and of course we were seated right next to them, it was another 30 min. Before any one else came to be seated, so why squeeze us in there? The food is terribly expensive, dinners start at $20 and go up to $40, and you need to pay extra for a salad, we received a piece of bread and I mean 1 Piece, I ordered a strip steak for $36 I got a dab of runny mash potato's and and a pile of kale, no substitutions had to pay $3 to get a side order of 11 fry's. While all the food tasted great, but shouldn't it at half the price? The service was average not great, the ambience is very nice and the style is laid back. Will I ever return, the answer is NO, not for dinner, maybe for lunch when I want a $12 hamburger. Save your money and go to Longhorn or Texas Roadhouse. You will get better service, a better steak, cheaper drinks and you'll save $50. read more

I have been to the Mill twice for a late lunch and would recommend going at that time. You can order off the lunch menu which still has entrees like crab cakes (which were awesome and gluten free) and steak or you can order a sandwich. We sat upstairs the second time we went which had more ambiance I think than the main floor. read more

went for a special occasion. Will probably be a long time before we can afford to go back. BUT, food was delicious. Apps and dessert not worth the $$$ or calories... but the main dish's were all beautiful and amazing. :) We went around 6 on a saturday, and around 8 the noise level shot through the roof and they had a small band playing in the corner of the room. The skinny oysters on the 1/2 shell were cold, tasty and wonderful. The deviled eggs were done like no other and had great taste. The crab cake sandwich was ok, but the fries were perfectly done and tasted like board walk fries. I suspect they were blanched and then refried, but what do I know. I tasted Jo's Crème Brule and it was excellent. We were there for brunch on Sunday and I'm eagerly waiting to go back for dinner. A little noisy also. read more
