Location, location, location. They are conveniently located by the UofO campus, across the street from Matthew Knight Arena. My first time staying here and it was so easy to get to campus. The staff is friendly and very helpful and can answer most of your Eugene-area related questions. While there is not a large selection of places to eat, Track Town Pizza and Starbucks are adjacent to the hotel. Dutch Bros across the street, a Subway sandwich, Korean restaurant and an Indian restaurant all across the street and there also a market nearby and also a selection of fast, casual places on Franklin. Of course, more variety if you drive downtown. We got lucky and were assigned a room in the newer building, which is very nice. The building itself is bright & very modern looking--the building; the rooms are carpet free. The room we were assigned was spacious, double queen-sized beds, with a microwave and a small fridge. The bed was comfortable. Internet is fast & free--however the ISP is different from the one provided in the room versus the one in the lobby area. If you are in the main office/lobby area, you will need to switch the ISP. Continental breakfast is provided--cereals, bagels, fruit, microwave breakfast sandwiches and yogurt. The lobby/breakfast eating area is small with limited seating- 3 small round cafe table with oversized, lower than the table, chairs. During the breakfast rush, it is cramped and with limited seating, it appears to be crowded. Definitely a good place to stay and I recommend it. read more

What they don't tell you when you book a room: - It's likely you will not get one of the newly renovated rooms, instead, they'll stick you in the old building next to the one in all the Yelp pictures - Construction is loud AF and will wake you up early - Some rooms (ours) do not have the added security of needing a keycard to enter the building. Our room was on the end and easily accessible from the alley. Rooms located in the middle have that added security. - The inside of the rooms feel like a Motel 6. This boutique hotel is marvelous Maverick! I picked this place from Hotels.com because it was the cheapest I can afford. But, I felt so rich and pampered with its opulence. The Maverick hotel has its own merchandizing so I thought it was a chain of hotel. Turns out, it is not. The location was convenient, and the check in was swift. There were baked cookies readily available at the kiosk. I don't know if this is a thing since I'm from California and after spending nights at different hotels for the road trip, this one was very memorable. In the morning, the breakfast choices I got was such great idea. You get a bag and put in fruits, eggs, bars, and drinks. The coffee choice even has the almond milk choice to add. For those who loves postcards, they have 1 in the room and I was so happy to use it ASAP and send a letter out to remember with. We stayed here for one night during a major weather event. A severe ice storm hit the area, causing power outages and unsafe driving conditions. We booked a reservation through the hotel's website, and checked in that evening. When checking in, the young woman at the counter told us that we were lucky they were letting us stay as they normally only allow out-of-town visitors to book with them for college activities. This is a hotel on a major thoroughfare in one of the largest cities in the state. There were no disclaimers about this kind of policy on their website, and they were more than happy to accept my money in advance through their online booking application. I feel that this was extremely rude and unprofessional, as we were literally forced from our home and our only alternative at that point would've been sleeping in our car in an ice storm. For context, I had to spend an hour the next morning chipping ice off of my car so we could leave, having to avoid downed power lines and crashed vehicles in the street. The same clerk had a group of friends hanging out in the lobby throughout the evening. They spent hours horsing around and yelling in the parking lot, keeping us up well past midnight. I'm not sure what the situation is with this place, but it seems very odd that their employees insinuate to guests that they're lucky they're not being turned away from a hotel they paid in advance to stay with, and treat their place of business as their personal playground. We certainly will never be returning to this place. read more

If you're looking for a convenient place to stay while visiting U of O, this is it. A few highlights: - The complimentary breakfast is excellent. They have coffee, juice, yogurt, granola, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and so much more. Really high quality items. - Next door to Track Town Pizza and Starbucks - Walking distance to the U of O campus. - Cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance - Check out is 12pm The most important thing I want to note is their flexibility. We had to move my student into the U of O this fall for his first year of college. Per the college, they want you to wait until your student receives their move-in date before arranging plans for travel (this is like a 2.5 week notice). Anyways, I didn't want to wait to book last minute when other families will also be booking their rooms so I booked in advanced to avoid additional stress. When it it closer to the move-in date, I had to request a few changes to the reservation and the Maverick Hotel was very accommodating to the date changes. They made it easy and simple. All I had to do was give them a call and let them know. The rooms were clean and looked pretty updated. The only thing is that there were a few areas in the bathroom area that were flawed and outdated (peeled paint, cracks in walls, etc.) Anyways, I really appreciate how easy and convenient our stay was during a stressful, emotional, and exciting time for out family. I will definitely make this place my go-to hotel for future visits. read more

This was my first stay at the Maverick Hotel. I did read reviews beforehand and felt like it would be a fun place to stay and the prices were reasonable (big pluses). I was welcomed at the front desk and was assured my room was in their building at the back (not along the main louder street) so that was also great because I'd requested that! My room was at the back of this building, too, so very quiet and private. The room was very clean and the bed so soft and comfy. Then I went to take a bath (part of the reason I chose this hotel was it had bathtubs) but the drain plug wasn't working properly and the water just ran out. I tried everything to make it work but nope. So no bath :(. I'd already unpacked so didn't ask for a change of room. I also apparently stepped on a sliver of glass that was on the floor---ouch! Had to wear a bandaid because I couldn't pull it out. Obviously, it wasn't visible to the housekeepers or myself. Then, I found that while I could get on wi-fi enough to check and send emails, it wasn't usable for the web. I couldn't watch a movie on YouTube or do some shopping I needed to do---nothing. I saw this in other reviews and it's true. Bad wi-fi. Ugh. That just doesn't work for most of us these days. Fortunately, it was only for one night so I just did other things. The cable was good. When I checked out, the same, friendly front desk person was there and I told her about the tub. So, pros and cons to consider if you stay at the Maverick. Great location, I should add! read more

Very nice update on an old property. Clean spartan rooms with everything you really need. The bed was a bit firm for my taste but otherwise flat and clean. Hardwood floors in an updated room. You'd have to look at specific hardware to date the building, things like the bathroom door knob or placement of outlets. Just about everything has been updated. The mini breakfast was a very good selection of grab stuff with GF options. You're not going to find much for low carb, though. Staff and location are excellent and the room was quite. Ground floor rooms in the main building have outside entrances so you can park right in front of them. I like this type of setup. No schlepping your bag down long hallways. Now that it's a member of Choice Hotels this will be my go-to place in Eugene. read more

My husband and I stayed here on a Hot August night in route to Washington state with our German Shepherd. They have a nice lobby with room to park while you check in, and plenty of parking for the hotel. Since we stayed during a heat wave we were happy to find that the air conditioning in the room was very strong and we actually had to turn it down because we were so cold. Our room had a bathtub in it and it was a very cozy space with an outward facing door, and a nice little couch in the room with a coffee table for us to have our dinner. To mention that this place is right next to track Town Pizza, our favorite place to eat in Eugene, and directly across the street from University of Oregon. Pet owners please take note, there is a $20 pet fee. It was very quiet so it was easy to sleep, but the bed was very firm, which I enjoyed but my husband did not. Check out was also a breeze, and they provided us with two coffees to go and two cute breakfast bags that had muffin tops, granola bars, and juice in them. Great hotel for a reasonable price, will definitely stay here again. read more

Stayed here recently for the first time. I love the cute vintage charm this hotel has. The rooms were clean,quiet, and comfortable. The location was great ! Staff were all very nice and accommodating.The breakfast had alot of nice choices for everyone. Very large room in a minimalist style( could use a picture on the wall) it's set up in a cozy way like a studio apt. Nice table with two chairs and a overstuffed chair also. Looks recently painted. Bathtub was great towels fluffy. Our dog likes it.when we checked in they gave us a treat bag for her. Nice assortment of Tazo teas to enjoy before bed. I really enjoyed my stay at the Maverick this past Saturday night. Very nice lobby, helpful staff, and comfortable rooms. What more can you ask for when you want to see the Ducks play! There is a Starbucks next door and plenty of restaurants and pubs within walking distance. I would certainly recommend the Mav. Plus, as a guy born and raised in Eugene, I remember the Mav back in the early 70s. I can still recall seeing "Pre" running down Franklin Blvd. So many good memories. read more

I took my son for a new admit tour/program at the University of Oregon this past weekend. We stayed 1 night at the Maverick in their "newly renovated" wing. 1. This place is literally across the street from the University. You could not be closer. 2. Yes, its an older hotel but the rooms and beds were very comfortable. 3. The self service breakfast buffet had a good variety of hot and cold choices. The coffee was good as well. 4. The price was great (booked through expedia). 5. Staff was friendly. If my son elects to go to school here, I would definitely seek a room here every time. read more

My review is not reflective of the hotel rooms, but of the customer service and front desk. My husband and I needed a spot for our 21 year old son to stay for a few nights to quarantine from our younger kids (who are too young for the vaccine) after a possible COVID exposure. We made the reservation through hotels.com and headed over. When we arrived they refused to give him a room because we lived within 30 miles of the motel. After questioning why and if they would refuse people who lost their homes in fires, or needed a break from the heat wave they refused to answer. The front desk refused to give a reason for this rule and stated that all other hotels do the same thing. (We then made another reservation for a hotel down the road that allowed him to stay). The lady at the front desk said the room was cancelled and we would not be charged. However, we were charged for all 3 nights he did not stay there. I've sent several emails and had an hour long conversation with hotels.com. Originally I assumed the error was on hotels.com since the Maverick Hotel had stated they cancelled the reservation. However I was incorrect in assuming this was true. The Hotels.com customer service said the hotel never cancelled the reservation (after refusing to give us a room). After an exhausting time trying to figure this out, the hotel agreed to "waive the fees" and reimburse us. This whole situation made an already challenging and difficult time so much harder. read more

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Eugene. We checked the reviews and called to verify the rate. Surprise #1 someone actually answered the phone not a call center. A lady name Kathryn was very helpful and we booked our room. When we arrive a very nice young lady name Tayla Checked us in even though we arrived quite late. Fresh cookies were on the counter awaiting us. The room was clean and larger than most any hotel room we've stayed in before. The lobby was clean. When we check out Karen helped us and even went so far as to get the hotel's shop vacuum so we could vacuum out our car. Can you believe that kind of service in this day and age? Finally, When's the last time you stayed somewhere and they give you a brown bag to pack any extra breakfast you want for the road including fresh fruit? We will definitely return the next time we're in Eugene. read more

The location was great and it was definitely not bad if you are just looking for a place to sleep. We liked having the Starbucks nearby. It definitely has all interior and amenities of a Best Western (wicked bleached un-soft towels, not high-quality bedding, very bare-bones) that has been retrofitted with an updated paint job and branding on the outside, but the inside is still the same as the Best Western it used to be. We were also in a weird spot where our door has outside of the key-card required halls. There are 4-8 rooms on the top floor that are before the key card so we felt a little more exposed. Overall it was quiet and felt safe. There was a $20 charge per dog per night that I didn't notice on the website so that was a surprise. We aren't used to taking our dog places so maybe that's common but wish it was called out. Overall the website lacked a bunch of details and was hard to navigate. There was also an inconsistency where it said check-in at 3 p.m. but my confirmation email said 4 p.m. and we had to call to confirm. For the price, you might be able to find an Airbnb or slightly higher quality hotel. However, if you're just looking for an inexpensive place to crash with great A/C in a good location I would recommend it. read more
