A very unpleasant experience. I left my Mac with these people and I was told several times that it would be ready at the end of the day--only to be told it would be ready at the end of the following day. When I finally went on a Friday morning to pick it up, it still wasn't ready. When I took it home, it was infected with some kind of malware and I had to bring back--using car service both times--and then when I came home the second time I found the technician did not put the power cord back into the box. I took my MacBook Pro to the Mac Support Store when the battery started having problems. They had it ready within 24 hours with a new battery, plus they ran diagnostics on the computer to make sure there were no other problems. They also made recommendations on upgrades I could make to increase the speed of my Mac. I'll go there again when I decide to upgrade. read more

I cannot even begin to explain how horrible this place is in every aspect. I know this is a long review but PLEASE READ IT. I had purchased my MacBook Pro in late August and stupidly enough i spilled a full cup of water on it in October. I knew that that price tag for my repair would not be pretty but it was NOT the nearly $900 invoice that shocked me. I brought my laptop in a few days after spilling water on it and was happy that there was a place in Brooklyn that could repair it for me being that I did not have the time to trek over to the city. They said that it would take the usual 3 days to diagnose it. I was impressed that they had contacted me via e-mail only 2 days later but the good experience faded shortly after. I gave them the OK to repair my MacBook. After waiting 2 weeks without any response from them, I decided to give them a call. They did not answer the phone which I thought was strange considering that I did not call after business hours. Very unprofessional. I kept calling for a few days and to no avail they never answered so I decided to e-mail them. It took them almost a week to respond to my e-mail. Not cool. They said that they had to replace something which would cost me $700, which was cheaper than what Apple had offered me so I accepted it and let them repair it. First of all, why did I have to contact them in order for me to find out what needed to be done to repair my laptop?! TWO F@#$%!@ MONTHS LATER after e-mailing them and calling them consistently they got back to me saying that I "never gave them the permission to complete the repair, meanwhile I had E-MAILED them saying that they can do whatever needs to be done to repair it. Seriously, what did you delete the e-mail that you couldn't have gone back and checked? I had told them that I did let them know that they can repair it and they rudely insisted that I said no such thing and that they "apologize for the miscommunication." What miscommunication? It is not my problem that they were obviously too preoccupied with something else that they couldn't have taken the time to read my two line e-mail properly. Then, after $700 dollars worth of repairs, the computer still did not work. They charged me another $75 dollars to replace something else that eventually did the trick, but they never even offered to refund me the $700. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and just accepted it assuming that there was more than one issue with my laptop that they absolutely had to fix. ANOTHER MONTH LATER after AGAIN contacting them repetitively I got in touch with them to pick up my computer. At this point I was infuriated and had nothing to say to them so I took my computer and left. The computer was fine for about two weeks when my magsafe port (the port that the charger plugs into) broke off inside of my laptop so that I could not charge it. Keep in mind that I am a full time college student and needed my laptop and had no time to f@#$ around. I did not get my laptop back from this stupid place until late January (remember I brought it in during mid-October, seriously wtf?!) I'll make the rest of the story short- I brought my MacBook to Apple to be repaired and they're great, yet ever since I had brought my laptop into this wretched place I have had never ending problems with it. Despite what you may expect from someone who spilled water on their MacBook, I take EXTREMELY good care of my things. In October 2014 they charged me 870 bucks to repair my logic board, which was presumably the reason my MacBook would randomly shut down. A few months later my computer started shutting down randomly again and unfortunately the Mac Support Store warranty lasts 90 days (gee I wonder why). Because the diagnostic on my computer kept getting "delayed" and no one would call me with any information, it was a frustrating experience. Finally I was sent a pdf stating it would take $540 to repair the logic board. No explanation, just a form. When I called, they asked, do you have any questions. My question was why a computer that I bought from them only a year and 4 months ago would need that extensive of a repair. I was told that extreme heat could cause that situation; which is certainly not the case in my apartment. When I came to pick up my computer, there was no interest from them at all. There was no real help or friendliness, just take it or leave it attitude. It would have been nice to hear something like, please let us know if you change your mind and want it repaired. We're here for you. I don't understand why a service business isn't interested in providing good customer service, especially for someone who is a return customer and was presented with a high bill for repairs. The battery on my iMac G5 (1st gen) died and seeing how I visited the Mac Support store back in 2006 for my tech needs, I returned to them. My experience was pleasant, as pleasant as schlepping to the Gowanus can be, and it was nice to see that they have grown into a proper store over the last three years. The repair was relatively quick -- took a couple days to diagnose and a couple of days to repair. If I had any complaints I'd say that the place has a much different vibe than when it was just Jeff running the show. Maybe it's because tech nerds do not make good customer service reps, but my interaction with the people working there now, while fine, was a little austere. And I had to do a follow up call to make sure they received my financial info to start work on the order. Whatever, I suppose. As long as they did the job correctly, right? read more

How do they afford their rent. After reading the reviews decided I couldn't trust them for anything but buying a cable. Mini Display Port to HDMI which has to be the most common accessory that someone may need and not have already from Apple. When I got back I was told I took to long and they "recycled" my freaking mac!!!!!!!!!! A place that sells used macs took a perfectly good unit and "recycled" it. Liars. My wood burning iMac was wheezing with the simplest tasks. Before buying a new one, went to The Mac Support Store and had them check it out. Turns out it was a corrupt OS -- that's what happens when you update over and over and over again... They recommended a clean install and a SSD drive to pair with a mechanical one. I brought in my mac air because the back light stopped working. Everyone at the Mac Support Store was professional and courteous. They diagnosed my problem and gave me an estimate to repair my laptop. We all agreed it was in my best interest to replace the computer, since the parts and repair were not worth it. They did not charge for the diagnostics. I would not hesitate to turn to the Mac Support Store when/if I need further help. read more

I took them my MBP because it kept shutting down. They did a free diagnostic and told me the results the next day ( I took it to them a hour before they were closing the previous day), they told me exactly what was causing the problem and what it will cost to fix and SUGGESTED other upgrades I could do to improve performance. I would've gave five stars but unfortunately they didn't fix it in the time frame I was told, they said if I bring it Saturday when they open it will be done at the end of day, I had to wait until Monday ( not open on Sunday). I gave it a little time before I wrote a review to make sure the problem didn't happen again, but it has been a few weeks and everything's fine. Price was reasonable and I plan on doing business with them again. I do recommend to anybody! read more

I am rewriting my review (for the third time - other reviewers beware) since it disappeared from the site so those who review this store -- beware -- someone is deleting bad reviews so I will periodically check and make sure mine is here. To summarize, back in December 2008 I brought my computer to this store and waited ONE MONTH to get it back and then it was not even done correctly -- I brought it back and they still screwed it up!! Not only that they were unresponsive on the telephone and very unhelpful. Like many on this site I had to take it to Tech Serve to have it fixed. I complained to the Apple Company since they have authorized this joke operation as an authorized repair shop. So BEWARE if you take your computer here!!!!! Really great job from initial phone call to developing a plan, to communicating throughout, to final pickup. They did a lot of work to upgrade my old Mac Tower and did it at a fair price. No miracles when it comes to older computers, but it's performing much better will be good to have for a few more years. Great job managing my anxiety about the whole thing, bit of an expensive experiment and always tough to leave your baby on the operating table. But all ended well and would def use them again. read more

These guys are unprofessional clowns. I brought a Mac Pro tower in and an Apple HiFi ipod speaker. Keeping a very long, annoying story short: The Mac Pro came back, unfixed, with a badly scratched side. The Apple HiFi came back loosely reassembled, stinking of contact adhesive (seems they had not even had it back together when I came to pick it up and hastily "assembled" it while I was waiting) and missing its power cord. If by "repaired successfully and free" you meant "returned with a badly scratched side and with the problem still intact after a week of 'service'"--then yes--you are also correct on this. The only reason I didn't bring it back to you yet again was my utter lack of confidence that your outfit could provide me a remedy to my problem, and screw things up even further--at a certain point you know when to walk away. (BTW, I took this to Apple directly and they sorted everything out) - Regarding the Apple Hi-Fi: I'll give you an extra 1/2 a star for even looking at it. However, I didn't expect to get it back, covered with wet glue, and missing a part. I suggest you spend less time researching 2-year old invoices to "call people out" who happen to have had genuine, less than satisfactory, experience and focus more on running a tighter ship with better customer service. Bottom line: I sought out your service but unfortunately had to find solutions elsewhere. You've only helped me waste my time on fruitless trips to Gowanus and silly posts like this. I really wanted to love this place since it would be more convenient to be able to go here than Manhattan, but finding it was challenge # 1 and communicating with them was challenge #2. I dealt with what seemed to be the owner and his wife. They were both slower than molasses and had an attitude of "you will just have to wait" about the whole thing. I wasn't in a particular rush but just like to feel like my time is being respected. I called ahead of time to make sure they had the part I needed and when I got there they had to repeat the whole scenario of calling the guys in back, saying they didn't have it and I had to insist I called an hour ago and already went through this. Finally worked out, they told me 30 mins but it was more like 90 and when i finally when up to the counter to inquire when it would be ready, my computer was sitting there-- they hasn't gotten around to telling me even though I was siting 5 feet away. She then took about 15 minutes to ring me up and just had zero sense of urgency or customer service. Also the rubber bottom of my laptop wasn't replaced properly and is now all out of kilter. In the end it wasn't a terrible experience as my computer is working fine and it was cheaper than going to Tekserve but their customer service and general attitude needs improvement. read more

I replaced my late 2010 Macbook Air battery and these guys were awesome. I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up on my way home from work. I took off a star for the following reason: 1. I overheard a technician tell a customer that El Capitan requires 8GB of ram to run. Not to run well, or efficient, but as a minimum requirement. That's not true. El Capitan has a minimum requirement of 2GB to run, which I verified with Apple Support when I updated to El Capitan on my Macbook Air. I'm not sure if they were trying to upsell ram, but that's a little messed up in my opinion. read more

I first dealt with them when I brought in my MacBook which had just come back from Tekserve. It was a faulty hard drive that they replaced, a pretty normal transaction. Everything worked fine when I got it back, and still does 9 months later. Where they really impressed me was when I brought my G5 tower in. I had attempted to install my own RAM, in the process I apparently messed up the positioning of the RAM, causing the computer to not work. When I brought it in, they examined it and a couple days later told me that the only problem was the RAM not being in the correct slots. They fixed it for me, and didn't charge me anything for the process. I know if I had gone to a bigger repair center, they would have tried to sell me on some fancy backup and cleaning package that I didn't need. I can't think of anything more valuable in a computer repair store than the knowledge that they won't try to oversell me or rip me off. read more

I should have read my Yelp. I brought in my 4 year old Mac that would turn on, but not open any applications, documents, Internet etc.. The Mac store took about 8 days to diagnose and repair the problem. Sounds good so far? Well the computer is home 3 days and it is again not opening a single application! One would hope that when a computer is returned to you " repaired" that it actually has been properly diagnosed and repaired. read more

Since Apple stopped building Laptops with "plugs" or 17 inch screens my Mac book Pro became irreplaceable and I take care of it like a baby. Both times it required serious service the Mac Support Store came to my rescue. This is opposed to the Apple Store where they will almost automatically push a new purchase against older products that are actually built better. The Mac Support Store folks know what they are doing, are extremely professional and a pleasure to deal with. Go and listen to them- they will give you options and help! These guys really need some coaching in customer service and caring about quality. I went in even after reading the Yelp reviews because I really wanted to give a local Brooklyn shop a chance. They blew it almost every way possible. I was "misled" (I'm being polite) on multiple occasions, and when I finally got my machine back (much later than promised) it was a crappy repair, and on a very straightforward job. I went to the Mac Support Store on Monday. They did a diagnostic and determined what needed to be done and told me that they would call me when the work was finished. They told me upfront that it could take up to three days for my MacBook Pro to be ready for pick-up. You can imagine how surprised I was when I got a call the next day (Tuesday) telling me that my laptop was ready for pick-up. It took them 24 hours to accomplish the feat. They performed the following: SW, Directory Damage Repair, SW, Clean Install: Mac OS, User Directory with Applications and SW, Time Machine Restore. They even cleaned up my desktop and put all my stuff in one folder. These are true Mac folks, located in a funky warehouse in Gowanus. Friendly people, incredible service and a very fair price. I highly recommend the Mac Support Store. read more

I just had an awful experience at this place. Although they kept my computer for three days to run a diagnostics they keep saying they have fixed it and it still does not work properly. I have taken it back twice but will never go back there again and am going to the Apple store intsead. They also are very expensive and never answer the phone and take forever to buzz you in. Don't bring repairs here! The staff display an amazing lack of technical competence. It's probably safe to buy a cable or a part here if you can't find it anywhere else locally, but otherwise, stay away. In an amazing coincidence, two of my friends in Brooklyn both had computer failures the same day. Both called me for advice. Friend #1's computer would not boot, off the internal or an external USB drive. She brought the computer to Mac Support Store and was told the internal hard drive needed replacement. That sounded fishy to me, because that wasn't consistent with the diagnostics I had done with her over the phone. She took her computer back and brought it to someone else, who figured out that it was a software problem and got the computer running normally without any hardware repair. Friend #2 had a Mac Pro that wouldn't boot. She brought it to Mac Support Store and let them "run diagnostics on it" for 3 days as that appears to be their standard procedure. She was then told she needed a new motherboard AND two new CPUs, at a cost close to replacing the entire computer. Again, because I helped diagnose the problem, I knew that made no sense - new motherboard, probably, but new CPUs, no way. I took a closer look at the computer and after some rearranging of its parts I was able to get it working. It appeared to have a weird motherboard problem so we took it for repair somewhere else, less convenient but far more trustworthy. Before I wrote this review I went back into the store and asked to discuss with them the diganosis for friend#2's computer. The fellow at the desk said there were no technicians there that day, and Jeff (apparently the owner) was there but didn't want to talk to me. My impression is that they have a very low level of technical skill when it comes to diagnosing computer problems. I say this as a professional system administrator, who has been working with software and hardware for the last 25 years. I know what basic troubleshooting skills look like and these folks did not display any to me. Based on what the front desk person told me, it appears that they boot the computer with a diagnostic program, run the program, then report the results back to you without thinking much about them. The fact that they could get two diagnoses so badly wrong the same day suggests that they're not paying much attention to their work. I saw signs of problems reported by other reviewers. For example, they appear to have a very laid-back attitude towards tracking the computers - one of my friends was given back her computer without presenting her claim check, the other wasn't even given a claim check until she came back a second time and asked for it. As I said above, if I needed a cable or other part, and I had the part number and didn't need to ask them for advice, I might buy it there if it was convenient. But until they clean up their act, I recommend against bringing anything there for repairs. read more

I brought my 2011 MacBook Pro here because the logic board needed to be replaced after the graphics card went defective. The same thing happened two years ago but, back then, apple was able to replace it. Now Apple has stopped making it for the model I have. For some people, the cost of the repair wouldn't be worth it, but to me it was. I can keep running old software on a low operating system and extend the lifespan on a durable computer. The Mac support store did a great job with the replacement, added extra ram, and were so kind and insightful. That was my experience. I'm grateful to them for giving me possibilities against all odds. My computer is back in action and everything is running smoothly. read more
