The entrance is kind of forbidding as you have to go down into the basement of a large grocery store but the service was great. My laptop stopped charging, so I took it in to Com Plus Alpha. The gentleman told me it would be around $80 if the connection needed soldered. He wouldn't know till he opened it up. Another option was the mother board needing replaced. He told me it was the mother board, which would be around $120. I said, do it! Unfortunately, he tried multiple mother boards (used) and none worked. (One charged the battery, but the computer wouldn't turn on.) In the end, he was unable to fix it. However, it only cost $10 for the several hours he worked on it. At least I was able to back up the computer with a fully-charged battery. He was a little slow with communication at times, but I had told him I was in no rush. I felt he was very honest and reasonably priced. I'd go there again with future issues. read more

This shop is NOT closed. Moon is very adept and skills at fixing computers. I've gone to him many times over the years and he has fixed all of my issues for under-market pricing. The place used to be very messy with old computers and parts all over the place and for some reason he cleaned up the store. (Maybe because the neighborhood is becoming more and more wealthy?) I've gone to other computer repair people and they charge 2 or 3 times as much. In one case, the person didn't fix the issue and charged me over 3 times what Moon ended up charging me to actually fix the issue. One downside is that he doesn't answer the phone - you have to go there. Two thumbs up for him and his service. read more

They did not even have a basic SATA cable last time I went there. Also they were forcing me to buy multiple flash drives to back up my 1 TGB hard drive. I told them that I had another back up hard drive, but they insisted that I buy their flash drives from their stores. Moon, the proprietor of Com Plus @, is an incredibly honest and helpful man. My family has taken our problems to him for several years now, and he always meets or exceeds expectations. Once we brought him a problem that was opaque to us, but that an experienced computer repairman could fix in just a minute or two with no new parts. The owner runs the shop and does all of the repairs himself. He's super knowledgeable AND honest. I had an issue that at first appeared minor - he took a look at my computer made some minor tweaks and sent me on my way without charging me but did let me know that if it got worse I'd need to replace my keyboard. Later that day, things acted up more so I popped back over. He ordered a replacement keyboard immediately, and got in touch when it arrived in stock a few days later. It took him a few hours to do the work on the same day that the part came in. When it was ready my computer was ready in tip-top shape. - It doesn't get any better! read more

Very grateful for this local business as the guy who runs it saved my computer! I brought him my desktop PC that appeared to be dead, potentially fried by an electricity spike. He took my PC in and told me that the power cord was fried, indeed, and that the motherboard appeared to be damaged for good. Over the next two days, he would update me about his quest for a replacement power cord and a new motherboard (no success) When that didn't work, he came up with a new idea and, it turned out, fixed the motherboard. Not only is my PC fixed but it is faster: he removed some crapware and tweaked quite a few things. All of this for a VERY reasonable fee. read more

I've never contributed to Yelp but my experience at Com Plus Alpha inspired me to do so. I had the unfortunate experience of someone spilling wine on my laptop. I didn't get a chance to backup my data and the machine would no longer boot. While far from a savant, I have a bit of experience in the field and tried a number of things before deciding to go the professional route. I'm extremely happy I did. The service here was honest and straight forward. I was told if the data wasn't retrievable I wouldn't be charged. When I received the good news that the data was retrieved, I was very happy/amazed to hear the cost was only $50. I feel like shops like this get a bad rap because often they are in position to take advantage of people who are desperately in need of solutions. That wasn't the case here. My Macbook hard drive crashed completely last year after I dropped a suitcase on it (don't ask). The hard drive was cracked and the guy at Com Plus did try to recover my data but told me honestly that he couldn't do it after trying for a few hours. He said that there are data recovery services I can send the hard drive to, but they are very expensive and don't guarantee recovery so he did not recommend that unless I really needed what was on the hard drive. Fortunately I had done a backup not too long before it died so I decided not to send the drive out and was glad to have saved the money. The Com Plus guy offered to replace the hard drive so I didn't have to buy a new laptop. I agreed and he installed it for me and partitioned the drive to include OS and windows like I had before - fortunately I still had those disks as well. He did this quickly and the total price tag was something around $200 or maybe $250, certainly way less than buying a new computer. This was at least 7 or 8 months ago and the thing is still running like new, no problems at all. I am very happy with the service and would definitely recommend it to others with electronics issues. He also sells cables and that sort of thing for a reasonable price. read more

My iphone fell on the floor on Tuesday, the glass broke. So I called this place, the guy said he could repair it now for $100. Best price in the city! I go, he tells me that he will call when it is done (or send an email). A few hours later, still no call (or email). I call, and he tells me that he does not have the right glass, the phone is in pieces. He tells me that I can come pick up the iphone after he put it back together or wait until Thursday or Friday when he will have the glass delivered. I ask if he is sure it will be done by Friday because I leave for a long trip on Saturday, he assures me that it will be done. I tell him that I will wait, and ask if I can have my phone in the meantime. He tells me no as the iphone has been taken apart. Thursday I call, he says that he didn't receive the glass. Friday I send an email, no answer, I call at the end of the day and he tells me that he didn't receive the missing piece, and ask me to come pick up the iphone. So I am there, Friday evening at 7.30 pm, with my flight leaving the next day with a broken iphone, a bit upset. I decide to call the ipod doctor http://www.yelp.com/biz/nycipoddoctor-new-york who calls me back 3 minutes later. He asks where I am, I give my address, and he is on his way! I brought my computer in to have the operating system re-installed. The owner did the repair in 24 hours, and found along the way that one of the boards was dead. Rather than try to upsell me, he said that given the age of my laptop, and that I kept everything on the cloud/external hard drive, I could just run my computer on one board and avoid the extra cost of replacing the dead board.
