When my pc broke down I started the laborious task of getting on the phone calling different places trying to find a decent repair shop in my area. Luckily, after a few phone calls, and not being satisfied with the lack of customer service in other repair places, I found Sebastian's shop. I found him to be polite, business-friendly, and willing to be helpful. He was patient on the phone, explained the need for a certain charge (which was relatively inexpensive), and he was even willing to pick up my pc for free - which he did at 08:40 pm in the evening! He outlined the potential problems - and even discovered that one potential problem we both thought might have been the cause of my computer malfunction was not a problem after all. Thus, no need to charge me for a repair that wasn't necessary. Why is that important? Because it shows that even though he knew I didn't know squat about the pc motherboard - he didn't even try to rip me off by taking advantage of my ignorance! In about a day, I believe, he calls me to tell me that there's nothing wrong with the pc at all. And since there's no need to fix anything - he doesn't need to charge me for any repairs - not even for his time! So again, another opportunity arises in which he could have ripped me off - but didn't! What do I mean? I thought the pc had broken down completely. He could have let me continue thinking that way. Then he could have deliberately damaged the motherboard in order to tell me that it would cost, let's say around $125 - $200 for a new motherboard - plus, of course, his time! But he didn't do that. He charged me nothing for the pick up of my pc and charged me nothing for the diagnosis. All I needed was a new monitor. Why didn't I think at the very beginning that possibly my monitor was the problem and not the pc itself. Because when I attached the malfunctioning monitor to my other computer at home - it worked! Go figure! So, let me sum up the pros & cons about Sebastian: PROS: -- He's honest -- He knows his stuff -- He's patient -- He's very pleasant to deal with -- He does little things to be helpful beyond just being pleasant -- He charges nothing to pick up your pc -- He charges nothing to diagnose your pc ---After diagnosing the problem he won't go ahead on his own to fix the pc until he gets your permission to do so after informing you of the price and the problem. Which means you won't be hit with extra charges you weren't expecting. -- He understands English very well. He has a foreign accent. Don't let that chase you off if you're a natural born American as I am. He understands more than just conversational English. I heard him use college level English vocabulary correctly. So you won't have to worry about going through the annoying ritual of "Excuse me...what did you say?" or, "I'm sorry, could you repeat that, please?" which not only gets on your nerves but puts the person with the accent into a defensive posture as well. None of that nonsense with Sebastian. -- He also will beat the competitors' price. Bring in the ad showing a price and he'll beat it. The CONS: What I'm about to mention isn't really a negative. But it could be perceived as such by people not familiar with Sebastian's work. When you look at his photographs of his work station, he looks like Mr. Wizard hard at work at his workbench fixing problems. And he is. Make no mistake about that. But if you visit his shop, especially after reading all the great reviews and looking at the photos, you just might expect to see an Apple-type of shop & work environment. It's not. It's a family-run boutique business. Meaning it's small and even located in a basement. Not hardly the kind of "storefront" one would expect from someone who consistently gets 5 star ratings. But my answer to that is "So what?!" There are plenty of other larger places, even brand name places that people have gone to - to only be met with severe disappointment. Just read some of the experiences of some of the other reviewers. Me, personally; give me the real-deal steak over the glitzy sizzle any day of the week. So I would recommend that since you don't know Sebastian, you, as a good consumer should shop around to compare prices and customer service attitude. When you do, I wouldn't be surprised if you find yourself writing a positive review about Sebastian's shop in terms of fairness, courtesy, low price & professionalism. Seriously. How do people like this still exist?! Sebastian is a tech angel. I made the mistake of combining wine and my boyfriend's laptop while watching a movie, and as luck would have it, fell asleep mid-movie and spilled my glass all over the keyboard. We were abroad at the time and had no access to an Apple store or tech person. Fast forward a week, I find Sebastian on Yelp and because of all the amazing reviews decided to give him a call. I explained everything to him and he patiently discussed the issue with me. He told me he would be able to either fix or replace the parts I needed. I actually had an appointment at the Apple store after work, and being a naturally skeptical person, I told him this. He urged me to go to the appt and get a second opinion as this is always good practice. Once he said this I had a good feeling I could trust him, so instead cancelled the appointment and headed out to Astoria. Once I got there, Sebastian was super friendly but very professional. He allowed me to watch him take apart the computer so he could give me an idea of what needed to be done. He even hooked up a microscopic camera so he could show me in detail what exactly the problem was! It was great and totally evident that he knew what he was doing. He gave me 40% odds on fixing it, saying otherwise I would have to replace the parts. I was hoping he was the under promise-over deliver kind of guy, and he did not fail me! After working on it for hours he said it seemed like it couldn't be fixed as the wine really fried the motherboard (I was expecting this). He showed me all kinds of alternatives to buy a new motherboard (we searched his brick and mortar provider, ebay, etc.) and even helped me find the cheapest vendor for a new MacBook (which would provide him zero money from me). I was honestly so stressed about it and he helped me find all of the best options. He told me to take the evening to think about it and we would discuss in the morning -- even though I told him to go ahead and replace the part (total cost for all parts & labor would have been approx. $600 dollars -- I did big damage). The next morning he called me first thing and told me he had great news. He stayed up all night working on it and had somehow fixed it by toying with some extra components, etc. He did this, even after I had told him I was willing to buy a new one from him (which he could have charged me much more labor for, all things considered). He also told me that my keyboard was still somehow in tact and I didn't need to replace it unless I absolutely wanted to (again, he could have charged me to replace it plus the labor -- I would have never known). He replaced my RAM and didn't charge me labor for it, only for the part, which was so nice. Basically, the guy saved me hundreds of dollars and was 100% honest about it. My boyfriend and I were in complete disbelief that he went about this with such integrity (obviously a rare find in NYC). He even gave me tips on packaging it and explained in detail a few other questions I had about my own computer. All in all, Sebastian is amazing! I took a ton of his cards because I will absolutely be recommending him to all of my co workers and friends. A completely pleasant experience from start to finish, super professional and friendly, and so honest! You can't ask for more. I got a quote from a handful of other places and they really try to nickel and dime you. This guy is the best deal in town and totally a genius when it comes to computers & tech. The bottom line if you not into reading the whole story: As good as it gets! Go to Sebastian - and you'll thank my later. ----- so while trying to replace the keyboard on my 2012 Macbook Air by myself (what was I thinking) I've broke the connector of the logic board (big fail). At the Genius Bar I've been told that it would cost 680$ to get a new logic board (more than the worth of my Mac). Same answer got at some other Apple certificated service provider at the city. At other unofficial Apple repair service stores I've been told that it would cost about 200$, and would take about 5 days, which I guess is reasonable but still expensive :/ checked for Mac repair in NYC on Yelp and read the recommendations on Comptechnyc and decided to check it out. I called the, and told my problem to a guy named Sebastian. He asked for my Macbook model and checked if he got the connector for my model. So instead of getting a new logic board for 670$ or fixing it for 200$ he can manage to fix it for much much cheaper price (much!). He was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - did it on the same day (I went to grab lunch at Astoria and he fixed it by the time i've got back), explained me what I did wrong and most important - was honest and tried to fix it at the cheapest price (still can't believe I've got it fixed for that cheap and at same day). He even recommended me where I can find parts for my Mac if I ever gonna need. Do yourself a favor - Don't be lazy and make the commute Asotria (just 20 mins from midtown), and don't waste your time and money. Super nice guy, a fountain of IT knowledgeable, and you will be in good hands. We're so lucky we found him, almost wished we found him earlier (before we purchased this laptop). Situation: We were having problems logging into our computer and it was running really slow, tried 4 times, nothing worked (panicked, is the end?), and almost went to Geek Squad but so glad we went on yelp and found ComptechNYC- thanks yelpers! Not only did he take care of our problem but he actually made our computer better (yes!). In the brief time we chatted, I learned more about our computer and all these other things that I always wanted to know than anyone I've every spoke to (got a family of IT people and used to hang out with IT people at my last job and I never learned this much). You get more than you pay for with him (think we ended up saving money on potential future problems). Haven't gotten this kind of quick and efficient service in a long time, but it doesn't feel rushed. He's so pleasant to talk to and answered any questions we had. We could tell he loves what he does (glad he doesn't whore himself out to a large corporation). And he even graciously offered to deliver the laptop back to us and showed up at the time he estimated - yep, superior red carpet service. Will definitely call him in the future if we have a computer problem (maybe even to help us build a custom computer) and will totally refer him to everyone we know. Highly recommended! Sebastian, unlike the other PC repair services in this area that I've tried, does everything right! He does great work, gets the job done fast, and charges reasonable rates. He is kind and courteous and explains everything. He even threw in an extra repair for free (he fixed the broken power jack on my laptop, which broke a few months after another repair service fixed it) and delivered the finished computer for free too! If you live in Manhattan, it's well worth the trip to Astoria. He is now my go-to guy for any PC repairs, especially for laptops. Since I'd successfully done repairs on old desktop PCs, when my screen broke on my Dell Inspiron laptop I thought I could fix that too! Wrong! I quickly discovered that laptops were hard to fix and I was in over my head. I brought it to Sebastian and he fixed the screen repair I'd botched and found a couple of other issues (including a motherboard that needed cleaning) and fixed those too. I feel like I have a brand new machine. I had so many horror stories from other PC repair places in Manhattan. They all did shoddy work (or in one case ruined my computer completely), charged astronomical prices, were rude, and took forever to get the job done. My story-- I had one of those nightmare scenarios were my MacBook Pro suddenly cut out to blackness an hour before a big presentation. I usually am not the kind of guy who writes reviews , but I was actually very pleasant surprised by the work done on my laptop, and the turn around time. Before using the services of comptechnyc, I have gotten couple of quotes from other stores, and either it would cost me as much as replacing my laptop, or i would have to wait for days to get the part needed and replaced...I decided to take my chances with comptecnyc, especially that they offer a free on site diagnosis , so I called them, and the same day, they have sent a technician to my house to evaluate the problem. To my surprise, he (I'm sorry if I'm going to misspell his name wrong, but I think it was Sabastian) told me that the problem I have doesn't require a part replacement, and that they can fix it in less than 24 hours. I agreed to that, we signed a contract, he picked up the laptop and told me he's going to keep me updated on the work being done. Long story short, I have received a call the second day, that the computer is ready and they are going to drop it off whenever I have time. ComptechNYC is phenomenal! The battery in my laptop needed to be replaced. My choices were to send the laptop back to Dell to be diagnosed and, if necessary, replace the battery (which was estimated to be completed in 7-10 business days) or find an alternate route. After perusing Yelp, I came across ComptechNYC. I called Sebastian who informed me I can bring the laptop in at my convenience. OK, where to begin? I have just received my computer back from the guys at Comptechnyc, and IT'S ALIVE !!! I have lost all hope of ever seeing my files, let alone my little notebook working again, after a nasty fall from the kitchen table. It was cracked pretty bad and my screen shattered. I guess you have to pay the price for your mistakes...Anyways, back to what happened, I have taken it to B.B. for a quote on the repair, but i realized I can buy a brand new one with the money I was supposed to pay for the repair, so I thought why not get a second opinion. I have a macbook computer witch i love so much, but in one day by mistake i spilled some beer on. It was working, but getting slower and slower till i couldn't use it anymore. So i called the apple store for an estimate and they told me that i have to change my logic board, but since i didn't have the apple care it would cost me so much money. So one of my friend recommended me to call comptechnyc. They told me they have to see the computer firs and than they will give me an estimate, but the house call is free. So i said why not. I made an appointment, and a technician came to my place give me an estimate witch was way below that apple give me. Since the repair could not be done in my pace, we agreed for him to take it to the shop. A friend recommended Sebastian when my desktop started suffering from Windows 10 fatigue. He works from a tiny office scrunched inside a music store, surrounded by a mass of computers, cables and gadgets. Sebastian listened patiently to my problems and, after running a diagnostic, made recommendations along with a clear explanation of why and how much. Later that day he called me with his diagnosis and different repair options. he explained the pro's and con's of each. After considering the options I choose the best for me. Sebastian had my laptop ready for pickup the following day. He replaced my hard drive and was able to save and transfer my files. All this was done at a very fair price. I picked up my computer and then a few hours later I had a question about it. I called Sebastian and he promptly helped answer my question. I would give this business more than 5 stars if I could. My work of 4 intense days was in USB. USB died quietly. I got panicked. I first went to well-known tech service in Manhattan. I was told they can fix it but it takes 1 week and cost $360. If I could not fix it today, I had to re-do all of my work. I looked up local technician and Sebastian's info came up. My gaming Razer would not power on after I changed the battery, so I searched Google for Razer repair in Manhattan and Comptecnyc showed up with great Yelp reviews. So I packed up the laptop in a shopping bag and decided to take my chances with just a walk-in. The owner was a really amazing and friendly guy and said he would take a look. By the time I got back home he had already figured out the problem and sent me pics of the burned components inside with a very reasonable repair estimate. An hour later he texted me that it was done including a picture of the laptop up and running. I picked it up the next day and now have a perfectly working laptop again. Excellent service!!!! Even though this is mainly a computer repair shop, Sebastian was able to service my husband's failing PS4 with ease. The fan was broken, causing the system to overheat. Not only did he install a new fan, but he cleaned the system from top to bottom, also replacing the thermal paste and the thermal pads. We've had our system back for a few weeks now and everything is in perfect working order!! When we used to turn it on, it sounded like a jet engine... now it's so quiet, I won't even know if it was on unless I look at it! Sebastian knows exactly what he's doing. Sebastian is professional, friendly, reasonable and knowledgable. He told me what the likely issue was almost immediately and what it would cost to fix it. When he later found oxidation inside my MacBook that I didn't know was there, he told me what my worst case scenario would be and what the minimal increase in cost might be.
