I went to Sebastian for help because my mid-2020 Macbook Pro laptop had started really having issues with battery and the "Battery Service" notification had started to come on. To get it repaired by Apple would be about $500, and I'm a student on a budget. I 100% recommend Sebastian for computer repair. I had assumed that I would need to leave my laptop at least overnight since he had only returned to work that morning, but he immediately got to work on it. It was a bit of a perplexing issue (my left speaker had cut out and would only work by pinching the left side of the chassis), and Sebastian talked me through a few theories and repair possibilities even before he opened the machine. My desktop PC wouldn't turn on. Sebastian explained that he'd run diagnostics and provide a quote. If I didn't wish to proceed with the repair, there would be no charge. I brought him my computer on Fri afternoon. That evening he called, explained the problem, and quoted what seemed to be a reasonable price. The computer was repaired and ready for pickup Monday afternoon. Open your wallet, pull out your cash - and just give this business your money. Wish I would have known about this place sooner. The owner really loves what he does and has truly exceptional communications skills; this can be seen when he is explaining the problems with devices and possible solutions as he tries to physically show a visual (using your product or a part lying around). The owner/operator has a plethora of computer hardware knowledge; he gave me a CPU recommendation before I had all the parts necessary for one of the jobs, which helped me avoid compatibility problems - something I'm glad I did because it seems the few Kyle's and Karen's on the Internet who left salty reviews did not what I did. My Overall Thoughts: The jobs / Reasonable prices: Two jobs, both reasonable prices The first, was he replaced/swapped out some cosmetic parts of an older laptop. These can be somewhat of a pain to do. While this might not have been the most fiscally wise things to do, as it is not worth much, the laptop is functioning perfectly and has a lot of sentimental value as it was a gift from my parents. I supplied the parts and the laptop looks new. I also had him change the CPU (the one he recommended, which turned out to work) as it was not soldered to the motherboard and he added thermal paste (the correct way haha; keep reading so you can see my mistake). While I'd like to think I'm somewhat tech savvy, he was able to provide me with some value information: the CPU would be throttled back (on this specific model?) due to the fact that I did not have a working battery attached to the laptop - very useful as I did not know this and since I would be using this for a project. He was also able to make other hardware recommendations and answer my questions, like RAM upgrades, etc., as I will be using this for a up-and-coming project. Second job, was finished in roughly 30 minutes. He was able to clean up the mess I made with the thermal paste, turned on the laptop (it wasn't turning on and he explained why), added a heavy duty thermal pad to my CPU and answered all of my annoying questions regarding future-proofing the device. He also gave me a hardware recommendation, which I appreciated. Almost forgot, I had a screw that was stuck and I was not able to take of the back case and he managed to remove it. Side note: he was extremely accommodating - I mean extremely! This second laptop fix he did for me was last night and I came in late but he was able to work on it on the spot as he was waiting for another project to finish loading. He did not have to do so -- please do not expect him to do so for you! This was probably a fluke and I was lucky. That said, ALWAYS call in advance, give yourself enough time to get there. Realistic turnaround: First job was finished in (I believe) 1.5 - 2 days. Business operations: This business really knows how to operate! I'm an extremely happy customer and will recommend you to anyone I know who needs this type of service. Keep doing what you're doing! Pro Tip: Do not come to the store late. Had my laptop thermal paste redone at an UWS tech shop but they royalled screwed up the repairand the laptop was overheating even worse after the "fix". I decided to search through yelp for a second place to actually fix my laptop, especially since afterwards even though I repasted it after the first place some of the parts broke off when i was opening up the machine out of desperation. I basically had a heart attack when it didn't work because all of my work stuff is on it. If your unit is out of warranty, I can't recommend a better place to bring it. If you're the owner of an older unit that developed a problem, Sebastian at CompTechNYC is the FIRST and ONLY place you'd want to bring it. Here's why: CompTechNYC identified the problem and fixed my defective iMac IN JUST ONE DAY using a single drop of solder on a defective graphics card. CompTechNYC is not limited to "only factory-supplied parts" from Apple but repairs circuit boards and if necessary replaces them. What this means to you is that if the problem with your unit requires EITHER the repair of a part or the part's replacement, Sebastian will fix it. And if for some reason it's not reparable, you're not charged. This place deserves their full 5-Star rating. After waiting a month for Mike's Tech Shop to fix my iMac, I took it to CompTechNYC only 10 blocks north and WITHIN ONE DAY the problem with my graphics card was identified, fixed, and returned to me the next day for $250. Unbelievably good, attentive, and thoughtful service. Apple had quoted me about $1400 just to have my 5 year old laptop looked at for liquid damage (this wouldn't necessarily include parts). Sebastian opened up my machine in front of me and diagnosed the issue. He gave me a great quote (something like 150 to replace the keyboard, which is very fair given the issue), and then called me a few days later to tell me about some other damage he found. It meant replacing the battery, as well. Quote went up to about 280, but that price difference is still a bit less than the price for a new battery from apple. My laptop was ready days before Sebastian had predicted, and the price was even less than he had quoted -- 260, with a new keyboard and battery. It's been a month now, and my laptop is as good as it has ever been. When I went to pick up my machine, Sebastian took the time to walk me through the repairs. He not only explained everything to me in great detail, he opened up my laptop to show me 1) where the damage was, 2) how he made the repairs, and 3) how to make those same repairs myself in the future if I have any similar issues. Sebastian is an angel for Mac users, and you will save *a lot* of money and time by going to him if you have an Apple computer that is out of warranty. Of course, go to Apple first for any issues. I've had great experiences with them, even out of warranty. Back in March, they replaced my logic board (after the three year mark) because it had issues that were recognized by the company as a defect. But if Apple can't do it at a reasonable price, please do consider Comptech. I will be recommending their services to everyone I know who has a Mac that is past warranty date, or anyone who has a Mac that has damage not covered by the warranty. read more

Let me start by saying that I created this Yelp account just to give Sebastian a great rating. My 2011 MacBook Pro failed a few weeks back. The Apple Store told me they couldn't repair the machine (too old) nor could they replace the part. I took it to another shop downtown and they offered to replace the logic board (which would give it another 1-2 years at most) for over $400. I went to Sebastian after reading his wonderful reviews to get my data off the machine, a low and behold, he told me that an alternative fix would be to replace the graphics chip for FAR less that the logic board repair. The replacement was done within a few hours and machine has a new lease on life. I have a 2011 iMac that my son was using for remote learning. Apparently, he had a million programs running at the same time, including Zoom and it suddenly died. We could get it to start, but never to the log in screen. After reading positive reviews here, I reached out to Sebastian and he got back right away. What I liked about my experience was he gave me the best case scenario to worst case scenario and all the possibilities in-betweens. I decided to go ahead and get it fixed as both options were reasonable, and to my pleasant surprise, once Sebastian opened up the unit, it confirmed his suspicion that it was the best case (and cheapest) scenario - it turned out the problem was a fried graphic card - the worst case was the hard drive also went bad but it turned out to be fine. Sebastian was great - super responsive, professional and helpful. I reached out to a few businesses based off Yelp reviews to get a Lenovo laptop keyboard replaced. I had limited time and needed someone to repair or replace my keyboard within a week. Sebastian replied within minutes of me submitting my question and got straight to the point re: cost and time to fix, which I really appreciated. Other places said they would have to see the laptop to determine the price etc. but it was just a standard model that should have had a standard fix. As soon as the replacement keyboard arrived (which Sebastian ordered), he informed me, and I stopped by one afternoon to get it replaced (took less than 30mins with the wait, and actual keyboard replacement only took a few mins). First I had a 2012 MacBook Pro that apparently I put in a little bit of water at some point, so he replaced the hard drive and was able to back up and save a lot of my information from the corrupted hard drive that got water damage. He was able to replace the monitor and screen for a Lenovo laptop. He was also able to quickly change the hard hard drive and the ram for a 2009 iMac.
