Sebastian is the best. Built a custom cpu for me last year for cycling / gaming. I've since moved from NYC and had to call him on a couple occasions for support. He's kind, responsive, highly capable. Thanks for all your help! read more

My in-laws gave my wife and I an iMac that was 6 or 7 years old a few months ago. This iMac had a mind of it's own. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it just wandered into the magic land of computer world. Since I liked the screen sized we took the iMac to Sebastian. My man installed an SSD and some of this and that; all good stuff to make my baby run. Now this computer is "I Dream of Jennie" fast. Blink, screen refreshed; blink, programs open. This iMac is lightening fast. Once again I was very satisfied with his work. I felt that I was getting a fair deal. I felt very comfortable leaving my computer and repairs would be of a high level. Repair costs were very reasonable for the work he had to do. Thank you Sebastian. I will certainly recommend your work to everyone. read more

Sebastian was very helpful in recovering my lost data and provided precious advice in order for me not to make the same mistake again. He even recommended other alternatives had I not needed his help. The ratings are real, no fake news here! Took 3 days for him to retrieve my 1to of lost data. Price was reasonable. read more

Let me start by saying that Sebastian is a not only a super nice, professional guy - he is a computer god. When my 2-year old Macbook Air spontaneously wouldn't turn on one day, and Apple failed to offer any explanation other than saying it was akin to "getting a flat tire" and quoting me an absurd amount (something I will never not be angry about), I sought cheaper alternatives. I should also mention that to do this I borrowed my boyfriend's laptop, which I proceeded to accidentally spilled water on (mercury. retrograde). Luckily prior to the latter mishap, I was able to read a few Yelp reviews and saw good things about Comptechnyc - a small business with promising comments located near my apartment. As soon as I met Sebastian I could tell he understood my financial standing (poor) and feelings towards the situation (despair). He opened up both laptops to show me the internal damages, and how he would go about trying to fixing them - something I'd never seen before and had previously blindly trusted Apple with. Long story short, Sebastian tried a ton of different things to get the damaged parts working in both machines so I wouldn't have to buy any more new parts than I had to. To cut to the end of the chase - my "motherboard" (a very expensive part) was officially pronounced dead in mine, so he actually ended up putting my hardrive into my boyfriend's laptop (his had been damaged by the water). He also transferred my data onto an external hardrive, and the data from my boyfriend's hardrive to the new one inside his machine. All in all, I was happy to pay $330 to Sebastian for all this where Apple was quoting me $900+. He also has great communication from start to finish, and even gave me tips on how to later sell my non-functional laptop for parts online. I have never written a Yelp review in my life, so that goes to show that I HIGHLY recommend Sebastian at Comptechnyc, and I will definitely be returning to him for any other technology-based needs (although I hope I never have to!). read more

I've been very very skeptical when it comes to mum and pop computer repair shops, but yesterday I was in a crunch as my normal repair outlet (staples) wanted to charge me $360 to remove an SD card, and remove and check damage to my related DVD drive which the SD card fell into.. In desperation I yelped to find the best computer repair stores in Astoria. I simply couldn't believe that any such shop could be worth more than three stars at best. I was also very suspicious about the quality, honesty and integrity of these type of mom and pop repair shops. So. I yelped for five star reviews of local computer outlets and read all the reviews about Computechnyc which as you can see are very glowing. Computechnyc scored the highest rating by far, and I decided to take a chance. Computechnyc is located on the first floor on a residential street close to 28th Avenue and owned by Sebastian. Today I shelped my 17in Dell Studio 1747 over to Sebastian. I was a bit nervous as to price, parts and labor costs, but for $90 he checked my drive, removed my SD card and cleaned up some of the performance issues on this laptop, and all in less than half a day. Sebastian carefully went over all my options including repairs, upgrades and replacements and and parts, and is totally upfront, not to mention a very cool and friendly guy. As a very critical Yelper ( I rarely grade more than four stars), I can say without any reservation that Sebastian does far superior work to the major retail computer outlets, and probably anywhere in the city. You won't go wrong with Sebastian, not to mention he provides superior services at reasonable rates. read more

Professional, friendly, accessible, highly competent service. Felt reassured with how they handled my laptop repairs.

THANK YOU Sebastia for everything!! I recommend person fix anything types problem.. computer, laptop, etc..

Took a custom-built desktop here to diagnose and replace a faulty CPU fan. Sebastian was very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. The total cost was also very reasonable for the labor and expertise offered. I would recommend his services highly. read more

Definitely a go to location for any Apple computer repairs. I waited a really long time to write my review strictly to see if the laptop would hold up. It definitely did. Sebastian brought back to life a dinosaur MacBook Pro 15-inch early 2008 pre unibody. I have a mid 2012 and a mid 2015, but this one holds sentimental value because it was my first MacBook Pro and I got it through a friend's Student Discount at SVA. He replaced the fans which were making clicking noises and were creating a big over heating issue, replaced the hard-drive from 128GB to 750GB and updated the memory slots from 2GB to 6GB. He also added an app to cool my Mac down by adjusting the fan speed when it is overworking. To cap it all off he told me what to look for an buy so I could bring in the parts and not provide the parts for me at an inflated price! Sebastian is really knowledgeable, solid and honest. CompTechNYC is absolutely one of the go to places to service and repair Mac computers. I took me 10 months to give a sold review but after all this time I can say going to CompTechNYC was a great choice. read more

I brought my MacBook in because I couldn't get it to turn on. He immediately saw that the problem was actually my charger which he was able to fix (it was a minor fix, no parts required took under 2 minutes) and then told me because it was such a minor thing, he didn't charge. Excellent service will be returning if I ever have to actually get something repaired. read more

My external hard drives were no longer syncing to my iMac. I contacted Sebastian at Comp Tech NYC after reading great reviews on Yelp. He contacted me right away and offered some options to solve my situation including dropping off my drives for a look. He also recommended some better external drives than I had. Turns out Apple released an OS update the next day that corrected my issue. In the end I did not need to bring my drive to Sebastian, but he had my back, and that's a great resource to find in 2018. read more

It is rare to find an expert who can solve a major technical computer issue who at the same time offers kindness and confidence. Sebastian is brilliant and got my computer functioning when others had no idea what was wrong. Can't recommend ComptechNYC highly enough!! Thank you!!! read more

As others have correctly testified, Sebastian at ComputechNYC is smart, polite, funny, upbeat and 110% reliable (and honest). I could go on and on as others have...I'll just say he has the rare quality of being good at what he does (fix computers) and working with people. You will feel better just talking to him about computers - he will ease your worries and then fix your computer. For me, I brought Sebastian all the raw parts purchased from NewEgg and Amazon, and Sebastian assembled a new computer for me...tested it and had me on my way. I wish I'd known about Sebastian ages ago! After countless discussions with tech repair businesses that were unable to resolve a graphics rendering issue on my 4-year-old desktop, I saw the reviews Sebastian had, and called him about this problem. He took the time on the phone to be thorough in his questions and told me exactly what the problem was and what he could do to resolve it. I took my computer to him and was so impressed with how quickly and creatively fixed the issue, I asked him to upgrade the entire machine which he did the same day - all at a reasonable price. He's professional, creative, a great communicator and a terrific guy who really goes out of his way to help. Thank you Sebastian for this work - it saved me from purchasing a new computer which is what I had been told by others I likely had to do! read more

Sebastian's skills and knowledge are nothing short of phenomenal. I thought there was no hope for my beloved 2011 MacBook Pro - but Sebastian at CompTechNYC worked a miracle. Let me tell you my story: My MacBook Pro had worked beautifully for nine long years - and had all the ports that I needed built into it (USB, SD card slot, DVD driver, HDMI, etc), which the newer models don't have. But over the past year, the battery had swollen up to the point where the trackpad no longer worked, and a line of keys on the keyboard had stopped working. Both Apple and GeekSquad told me the laptop was no longer supported and therefore couldn't help me. ... But THEN I read about CompTechNYC and contacted Sebastian by email. He responded quickly and told me he could fix all of this and even suggested a particular model of battery on Amazon that would work for my laptop. So, I brought the laptop and battery to him. He replaced the battery (and told me he had never seen a battery that swollen before), replaced the keyboard and even fixed a frayed connection on my power cord. He was amazing!!!!! He did all of this while I waited, and the price was great. He was fast, but extremely meticulous as he repaired my laptop. He gave my laptop a completely new life - just amazing!!!! I was ready to toss this laptop - and it's now working like it did nine years ago. If I could give Sebastian 100 stars, I would! He was just fantastic. If I ever have computer issues in the future, he'll be my first call. read more

Buckle up, because we are about to travel at light speed on the Super-Highway. There are not enough stars in the sky to give Sebastion and CompTechNYC. My daughter's computer would not stay on. I don't know much about 'puters but they gotta be on to work. My daughter kept pleading, 'Is today the day you get my computer fixed?' I finally googled 'Computer Repair' and Seb's shop popped up. He had the computer working faster than you can say 'Microprocessor.' Love him and CompTechNYC. Just go. read more

Honest, low-key, helpful, professional, and competent...all words I would use to describe Sebastian and the level of service he provided. I brought him my 4 year-old Asus laptop which stopped powering up either with battery or A.C. adapter. He didn't promise it would be worthwhile to repair it, but called me with his diagnosis in less than an hour and gave me a quote that was reasonable and acceptable. Less than an hour later, he texted again that he had repaired the motherboard and the computer was ready to pick up. Now, I have a functional laptop saved from the junk heap at a reasonable cost! Thanks, Sebastian! A note: he seems to be a one-man operation. Just in case he happens to take the day off, I suggest contacting him before your stop by. read more

The iMac 27 inch 2011 model has a long established issue with its graphics card failing. Apple can't replace these are the 2011 model is now "obsolete". Comptechnyc however had it repaired at a very reasonable price within one business day. Very knowledgeable on all iMac related repairs. Highly recommend. read more

Great price, great service, friendly. When I needed speakers replaced on a MacBook, friends said I must try their guy in Brooklyn. He quoted a price that I thought a bit high, but everyone said he was so good I should try. Although located in Manhattan, the price was lower, and service speedy and efficient. I'll be back. read more

I had a great experience with Sebastian which attests to the high quality service he provides. I called him looking for a rare part and after learning that he doesn't sell parts he took the time to suggest a few other places which I could try. He called me back 20 mins later to tell me that he had found a spare which he didn't need. He checked a photo I sent of the component in question and confirmed that his spare part would fit my needs and that I could pick up from his office right away. We had a nice chat about the specific issue I had encountered that had led me to seek the part where I got a sense of how skilled a technician he is. I will definitely bring all my computer service issues to Sebastian in the future. read more

Apple quoted me $1,140 to fix my water damaged computer, which would've involved shipping it off. Sebastian fixed it in less than 24 hours for $300. Especially given the time of the school year, Comptech saved my life, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

Got help with my mac a few months ago. Sebastian who runs this small biz was great. He replied to my yelp message within the hour and offered me a rate that was competitive with what I thought my mac issue was. I thought my keyboard was broken but it turned out my battery was going and was bulging out, affecting the keyboard. I brought it in and he reviewed it that day and gave me a breakdown on the issue, the parts I needed and the cheapest way to do it. I ordered parts on amazon and he charged just for labor. I also had memory added to my macbook to hopefully keep it running for a few more years. I would definitely recommend this business! read more

Kudos to Comptechnyc! Not only did they repair my keyboard perfectly--after I accidentally knocked a glass of water on it--but they were a pleasure to deal with. The first time I brought my laptop to them, they found nothing wrong (before the water spill) and wouldn't charge me despite having spent time on labor. Sebastian was terrific! After the water spill, he not only charged a fair price but went way out of his way to help me with another issue that had nothing to do with the repair. I'd go back there in a nanosecond! read more

CompTechNYC brought my 2009 iMac back to life! After hearing about how fast CoVID-19 was spreading around, I thought it would be a good time to see if my very slow, glitchy iMac could be fixed after 5 months of putting it off. Just in case, who knows! I figured due to its age, my Apple wouldn't even support anything for my computer anymore. My brother recommended ComptechNYC and I'm so glad he did!! I asked for a quote initially thinking I was having a graphic card problem, but Sebastian was able to diagnose my computer pretty quickly and determined it was a hard drive issue. Sebastian explained the problem to me and talked me through some great tips about my model and things I could do to help with the performance of my computer. I was very grateful for this because it was genuine! I can't remember the last time someone took the time to explain things in a bit more depth for my computer. You can absolutely tell that Sebastian knows computers like the back of his hand. The expertise really was so reassuring, especially since I thought my iMac was done! The turn around was great (Dropped off on Saturday afternoon, Picked up Monday!) the price was awesome and I have been raving about him to everyone I know! Thanks for helping me keep my computer for a few more years. If I ever have any computer trouble ever again, Comptechnyc is my first stop. Keep small businesses like this going! read more

Highly recommend this business to anyone who is looking for tech repair. I have struggled with laptop overheating that was ended in fan failure and blue screen on an attempt to reboot. I reached Sebastian, and he was able to replace all failed parts. I leave my laptop on Thursday and on Friday was able to pick it up in working condition. During repair, Sebastian gave me valuable advice on how to take care of my laptop and explain what options do I have from a modernization perspective. read more

Spilled coffee on my 2013 MacBook Pro, Apple told me it would cost $750+ so I assumed it was a total at that cost and was going to buy a new one in September. Decided to look on Yelp and ask a few independent repair shops just in case. Found Sebastian with amazing reviews and he quotes an unbeatable price. Brought it in and 2 days later my laptop was returned to me in perfect working order for 1/3 the cost of Apple. Sebastian is thorough, professional, and responsive. UPDATED 3x: BE CAREFUL WITH THIS COMPANY! I had my battery replaced in January by Comptechnyc only to have the new one break down by early April. I went in with a battery that died quickly and left with one that, in two months, would suddenly die in 20 minutes with a 50% charge. Needless to say, I was frustrated after spending so much money only to end up with a battery that was worse than the one I started out with. However, because Sebastian (company's owner) had asked ME to order the new battery myself (dictating what brand to buy and where to get it, but otherwise hands off), the owner refused to take any responsibility for the battery's failure and would not offer a discount when a new service was requested. Rather than remain in what feels like a cycle of inadequate service, I will be taking my computer elsewhere for round two. If you plan to use Comptechnyc's service, be wary about any work they try to outsource to you -- keep them honest and responsible for all aspects of the service. I regret trusting them, but perhaps it is as simple as that. IN RESPOND TO COMMENT BELOW: If the case were simply that I had bought a bad battery, I would not have left this review. I gave you two stars because of the method you conducted this business -- You asked that I purchase the battery myself (to reiterate, after naming certain brands and where to buy) rather than be responsible for the entire transaction yourself. No other company asked that I do this, but I went with you because of your quick turnarounds. When said battery failed, your offered the equivalent of a shrug and expected that I just repeat the entire process. THAT is why this entire thing feels shady and why I won't be using your services again. SECOND UPDATE: Dear lord, this is going to keep going on, isn't it? Our messages via the yelp app neglect to include PHONE conversations, which I now 100% regret doing. Always have receipts, got it. Look, you can demean me all you want, but I won't take down my honest review of what, I felt, was a shady transaction. THIRD UPDATE: I only came back to this page to reference my experience here to another company - only to find the owner had rewritten his response yet again to favor the story he is telling. I'll say it once more: I was told to buy the battery by Sebastian himself. He directed me to the amazon website and said this is the brand he would purchase from, so doing it myself and bringing it into the appointment with me would speed up the process (which was the major draw). The battery costed $60 and his service an additional $80. This quote is identical to what all the other companies quoted me, the main difference being his promise of a one day turn around. Our initial conversation happened over the phone while I was out of town and then switch to DM once I returned to NYC (where yelp makes you fill out initial service information in order to start the conversation). Again, I wish I hadn't trusted our phone conversation and had done everything over DM, that was my mistake, but the fact that he is now claiming the battery was "cheaply made" is ASTOUNDING to me. YOU told me to make this purchase in the first place. The fact that you keep sidestepping that fact just emphasizes how shady the entire transaction was. Anyone considering your services can take your reaction here as a good indication of what to expect if they encounter any issues with their device after the fact. I'm leaving my review at two stars, because I still stand by it, despite the unpleasantness of this exchange making me want to downgrade it to a one. We've both given the facts of this awful experience, let's just leave it at that. read more

Currently looking for someone to fix your computer screen? Look no further. Comptechnyc took a bad situation and made it a whole lot better. After a lapse of judgment of leaving my computer unattended next to my pet, my MacBook pro screen took a fall and the screen became busted. I began surveying the NYC computer repair shops on Yelp. I already knew that it would be a little pricey due to the retina display screen, but at the end of the day, I just wanted a good repair service with a fair price. Some of the computer repair shops I visited were quick to give me a quote without fully diagnosing the problem. For example, one computer shop quickly glanced at my computer for a few seconds and gave a pre-scripted price without knowing the year/model of my MacBook pro. Another computer repair shop tried saying that my laptop had water damage to the keyboard, but that was nonsense due to me always having a keyboard protector. Luckily, I met with Sebastian from Comptechnyc and found out for myself why his business is rated 5 stars on Yelp. Sebastian carefully and throughly gave me his diagnosis. He described how the screen damage most likely happened, and further advised me on how to prevent common screen damage in the future. Then in detail, he gave me a breakdown on how he charges for his services - which included finding the right screen and parts, the labor, and third party insurance. After learning all this, it was an easy choice to have Comptechnyc repair my MacBook pro. I delivered Comptechnyc my laptop on Thursday evening and it was ready by Saturday evening. The shipping of the parts was took the longest. As soon as Sebastian received the parts that Saturday, he replaced the screen the same day. Although I hope that my laptop will be free from repairs from now on, I know where to go if I have computer repair issues. read more

Sebastian is a true professional. He knows how to be warm and to the point while making sure you understand the problem with your computer perfectly. My laptop stopped booting up, because my hard deive died. He was willing to go through the differences between a solid state drive vs a "typical" hard drive. When I called with a question about what operating system I would be getting (my laptop is 9 years old) he was willing to make sure my questions were answered thoroughly. I was nervous when deciding where to take my machine to get fixed. After first meeting Sebastian, I knew I was in good hands. read more

Sebastian is the REAL DEAL! A few days ago I spilled an entire glass of water on MacBook Pro 2015. I let it dry out for a few days, but it still wouldn't turn on. I went to the Apple Store and they told me it would cost $800 before taxes to get fixed. Essentially, they were going to replace my computer with a refurbished computer from the same year (I looked it up) Oh also, it would take 1-2 weeks to get back to me. Such a rip off!!!! I went to Sebastian's repair shop around 2 pm today. He opened the computer in front of me, and showed me every place in it that he thought might have damage. He told me he would keep me informed about the progress of my laptop and call me along the way. He called me at 5 pm and told me what needed to be fixed and how much it would cost. Here I am at 6 pm, with my perfectly fixed laptop. Same day service?! Try three hour service!! Sebastian is not only professional, smart, friendly and legitimate but he is now my hero!
