My Computer Tech gets 5 stars for how they saved the day with my NEW HEWLETT Packard. Story by Naomi Semeniuk. I was in a conundrum with a very incompetent guy from a repair place I had depended on for a long time. There is many times an exception to the rule when one disqualified person can ruin an impeccable business!Yes my conundrum was a repair person first who only unwrapped my Hewlett Packard and was unjustly accusing my innocent cat who was not even in the room of wanting to attack him which my innocent cat never did!!! I was in a growing conundrum and had to get rid of the unqualified person who was really conspiring against my good intentions and piece of mind!!! I know that incompetence people are at fault many times and this was the time to act wisely and judiciously!! So I called on Mr Offirir at My Computer Tech and he was expeditious indeed. My Computer Tech was at 400 East 87th street. He understood that I paid 697 dollars for my 24 inch HP computer and got to work on my HP immediately and I luckily had my old computer who had always had impeccable service except for this one time an unqualified man was terrified of my kitty who is harmless and never harmed him!! This was and is nuts!!! So Mr.Offirir was very qualified and not afraid of my impeccable pet and both the right qualifications won my case!!! Mr.Offirir was working on my hewlett packard and my pet was super happy that all was finished and successful. My Computer Tech is a business I found in Yelp while I was drinking my coffee this morning. I killed enough time so I would arrive at the business when they were open. There wasn't anyone there and I thought at first I was supposed to buzz to be let inside. Then I realized by reading the sign it's a buzzer for delivery people. Duh Marianne! I decided to walk over to Best Buy and talk to the Geek Squad. Flash Forward to 11am after an unsuccessful attempt two other places, I decided to stop again on my way home. Alas there's no one there again. The second visit I took a photo of the dark inside door! I'm very disappointed that this place doesn't have the hours advertised yet there's a sign out front offering free estimates. I'm not wasting any more time here. read more

I am 80 years old and computer illiterate. I know what button to push (sometimes) and when (sometimes). I have had many I.T. professionals over the past 25 years. I am a physician and using the computer for prescribing is essential. My Computer Tech, and Ofir specifically, has been the best by far. Some others have been friendly and competent and solved problems, but not with the utter patience, cordiality and confidence that I feel with Ofir. He works magic and can tolerate (beautifully) an old, ignorant, at times cantankerous man who panics easily at the computer. I always have felt totally at ease with Ofir. The people who work here are friendly and honest. I took a laptop here for repair and the guy told me my laptop wasn't made with good quality parts (ugh, Lenovo) and it would cost more to repair than to buy something brand new. They sell some refurbished machines at good prices so it's always a good place to check if you want to save money on something used. Great shop. Glad to have them in the neighborhood. read more

I contacted them asking for rates for a broken laptop battery. The guy told me how I could easily fix this myself for no cost, and he explained how to do it. Crazy in this day and age that he didn't try to get a quick buck, but instead was happy to help for no benefit to himself. He was right that it wasn't hard to do, and I saved money. He was willing to give me more help if I needed it. I'm definitely keeping this company's contact info in case anything else breaks in the future. So FEW companies are trustworthy these days. I could not recommend this company more! I had a PC that was overheating and I called these guys up and got on the phone with Ofir, scheduled a pickup for the next day and it turns out the fan was broken and he fixed it and returned it within 24 hours! It actually turns out it was not only the fan, but the CPU cooler had been leaking too. I texted Ofir, who kindly picked up the computer ASAP and installed a new cooler free of charge (I had to provide the cooler of course). The service from Ofir was A+. He was kind enough to text me updates within 24 hours of him picking up the PC. He answered every question I had and made honest recommendations as well. If you need your PC repaired or upgraded. We brought in a computer that had been hacked, and they were so genuinely kind, helpful and knowledgeable, making us feel much calmer about the whole situation. Tech problems--UGH--right?! I flew out to NYC for a short-term client. On the plane, a few drops of water fell right into the ports on the side of my laptop! I wiped it off and didn't think about it again until...I opened my laptop at work and BAM! Water damage CITY! I needed my laptop for work and I was super concerned about making sure it was backed up. Ofir came to the rescue! I called him on a Saturday at 6:45pm and he picked up the call!!! He advised me to turn my laptop off to prevent further damage and said he could pick my my laptop to repair it the next morning (on a SUNDAY! Wow). My fiancee spilled tea over her newish 2021 macbook pro essentially turning it into a useless brick. Tried uBreakiFix but I honestly think they didn't even try. Apple refuses to work on water damaged computers. RELIABLE, AFFORDABLE COMPUTER SERVICE - INCREDIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE I wake up one morning to find my computer running slow. Mind you, I work from home, and my computer is my entire life. It is my job, therefor it is how I get paid. When I say slow, I'm talking it was taking 1+ minutes to drop down the File menu in Finder. Something was seriously wrong. I walk my MacBook Pro and my soaking behind through the rain about one and 1/2 blocks east to My Computer Tech, Inc on 87th & 1st Ave. I'm loathing the fact that I may possibly sacrifice close to half of my months pay to an entirely new computer - which would cripple me financially at this point. On the bright side, I know my computer is still turning on and operating (all-be-it only operating at the speed of nothing) so it's something simple. The RAM must have just popped out of place or something, right? WRONG! My hard drive is fried. I'm screwed. It's going to cost me at least $800 to buy the hard drive, have it installed, save whatever is left on my old hard drive, bring that onto my new hard drive, install the new OSX, right? WRONG! These guys not only saved my files from my old hard drive, they turned my computer from old to new. AND THEY DID IT IN LESS 6 HOURS for just over $300. (The Apple Store would've charged me way more, plus I'd have to send my computer away for a few days, possibly even a week.) They were extremely nice, explained everything to me in terms I could understand, and had a sense of humor about it all. I bring the computer home, and what do I find? Instead of giving me the 160gb hard drive I had paid for, they gave me the 300gb at no extra charge. "Oh, I forgot to mention that. Enjoy the bigger drive," they said when I called to thank them. I've used MyComputerTech for the past few years for my PC issues. They used to be store-based on E. 87th Street but now make house calls. My first interaction with MyComputerTech since they gave up the store was great. My PC's power supply died and a house call was made within a few hours. MY COMPUTER TECH IS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT. THIS IS NOT THE SAME OUTFIT THAT PROVIDED STERLING SERVICE IN THE PAST. In the past few years I have had great service from My Computer Tech (prior owner Avi), for both PCs and Macs. BUT DO NOT trust the new owner with your Mac computers. I dropped off my Mac Powerbook Pro with a simple request after inadvertently downloading malware: I needed the drive to be reformatted and the OS reinstalled so that I could then restore from backup via the native Time Machine app I have always used. I asked about Avi, and he said Avi sold the business and he introduced himself as the new owner. He told me the cost to reformat and reinstall the OS would be $136 including tax. It was about 1:30 PM on a Saturday. I did not want to walk all the way to the Apple Store, but that is exactly what I should have done! My Computer Tech made several errors in this simple project, which necessitated taking the machine back to Apple: * He failed to check the OS version (High Sierra 10.13.5) before reformatting the drive. * Then he installed an old version of High Sierra (10.13). * He set up my Mac with a generic user account instead of delivering it to me as a "new machine" (i.e., powers up with the Mac Welcome screen so that I could perform the set up and restore from backup myself) When I got home and tried to restore from backup via Time Machine, the app would not operate. I returned to My Computer Tech and asked the new owner why Time Machine wouldn't restore from my backup? Did he use the same version of the firmware? It was almost closing time and he had another customer and he got very defensive, saying "Well, I don't know; I installed the OS and High Sierra is High Sierra, that shouldn't matter!" The new My Computer Tech could not figure out why Time Machine wouldn't work so he started pulling over my user data manually. He said I could do the rest (Applications, Library, accounts/settings, etc.) manually myself, or I could bring it in on Monday morning and he would do it. Instead, I brought the machine to Apple Sunday morning and they quickly figured out that the OS version 10.13 which My Computer Tech installed wasn't able to read my OS 10.13.5 backup - and that is why Time Machine wouldn't restore from my backup. Apple wiped the drive again, installed the correct 10.13.5) version of High Sierra, and returned the machine to me ready to set up and restore from my backup. Time Machine performed flawlessly and in less than an hour my Mac was restored to its pre-malware state. Apple, of course, did everything for free. I can't say whether this new My Computer Tech is competent with PCs, but he clearly has no business working on Macs. Word to the wise. read more

My son and I were working on building our own computer when we hit a snag - it would not boot.
