When I first walked in he examined my laptop, gave me a written estimate, stamped it and I went on my way. I appreciated that he honored the estimate he gave me. The sign explaining the customers' rights, in combination with the diagnostic exam while dropping it off, made me feel confident that he wasn't going to give me a surprise higher charge than I was expecting. I brought one of my turntables to this place a couple of years ago and they fixed it promptly and affordably. In November I brought my second turntable there, and when I dropped it off the guy told me it was an issue with the belt, and that he would fix it that day if he had the belt and later that week if he had to order the belt. I stated to him that I did not think it was the belt. I have listened to vinyl my whole life and know how to replace a belt, and he responded that maybe it needed some grease too. I shrugged and said, you know best, but it did not sit well with me. I said that I thought it was more serious, the motor of the turntable. He again said no. Two months later I had to text him to ask him where the ^%&^ is my turntable and he texted me back a saga about how he replaced the belt but it wasn't the belt and can't get the mother parts. Fast and reliable. I came in a weekday morning to get my Dell XPS 15 laptop fixed. I spilled water on it, and it wasn't turning on even after waiting 48hrs for it to dry. They inspected it and reached back out to me within 2 hours that they'll need to clean the motherboard, and if it was salvageable, it'd cost $150 including tax. After another hour, they texted me saying that my laptop was ready for pickup. Very satisfied with their professionalism and communication. No frills service. I gave them the model number over the phone, they ordered the part for a small deposit, received the part the next day, and had my laptop back in my hands the day after that, as good as new. They would've had the completed the repair the same day they received the keyboard, but I dropped off the laptop late in the day. All this for a reasonable price. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I have taken everything from computers to Android phones here, and they always deliver the results I want. In one case, I wanted to put a new battery in my phone (ATT said it was part of the phone and that I would have to buy a new one). The good news: They tried hard and when things went wrong they fixed it at their cost. They got 3 stars because tried hard, otherwise 0 or 1. Other news: Brought in Surface 4 with battery that was dead. That was the only problem - it otherwise worked fine. Something went wrong during the repair, so they replaced motherboard at their own cost. However, after all that it doesn't work properly. Touch part of the screen and it freezes so I have to do hard reboot. Battery life is quite lousy. Not really useable except plugged in and even then the screen is erratic. read more

Don't be turned off by the overwhelming, junkyard-level mess - they can fix anything. I brought in a rare Artemide lamp whose electric switches needed replacement. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. Daniel and Min are exremely nice and work very hard. Twice they serviced my laptop - once for a smaller issue (cleaning it out inside), and once for a bigger issue (replacing the hard drive and cloning contents of older drive, so my computer would have all the same data and programs as before). Both times I got my computer back in excellent working condition - when they worked on the bigger issue (replacing the outdated hard drive) it was like I got a new computer - except with all my data and programs intact! They were very reasonable and worked way too hard for what they charged me. I would highly recommend Shine Electronic! read more

I broke my favorite Harmon Kardon speaker. It can not be replaced. Harmon Kardon recommended a repair shop, they were no longer in business. I was sad. I saw Shine Electronics repair in my neighborhood, upper west side. I called and they were very nice. I brought my speaker in. They fixed it right away and had a part needed, I was amazed and so happy! It was not a part easy to replace. They were so kind and I can hear my music once again. I am disappointed in the service I received at Shine. I expected much better communication and faster service based on the previous reviews. I dropped my 2014 MacBook Air on a Thursday for a data recovery and was told it wouldn't take long. I called Saturday and they said they needed a special device which he had ordered and it would be finished Monday or Tuesday. I called Tuesday and was told Wednesday. I called Wednesday and they said they'd call me back in an hour. They never did, and when I called them that evening they said they still didn't have the tools to recover the data from my computer. I told them I'd come pick up the computer. This was not only a waste of my time (one week), nothing was accomplished. There was no communication and I found it frustrating to deal with them. I won't be back and hope others have better luck. read more

A client of mine used them to fix a cracked iPad screen, and they're right in my neighborhood, so I brought in my Toshiba laptop that a) wouldn't power on and b) was literally falling apart, the screen hinge barely hanging on. The called me later that day with an estimate, and told me I needed a new power supply and to fix the screen, a new bottom plate. When I went to pick it up the next day, my old laptop looked as good as new and they booted it up. Great; they fixed it up and gave me a better power supply, and did it for a not unreasonable price for parts and labor. All in all, job well done. read more

Daniel (the owner) and his partner, Min, are great at everything they do! I have been a loyal customer since the time that they had a little basement shop off of Broadway. I am glad that they are now in a more visible place, so that more Westsiders can find them. They have been doing repairs and installations for me with my computers and printers (two of each over the past decade) and have helped me to keep them running smoothly for as long as possible. My current computer is 7 years old. Most recently, I got the runaround from the company that sold me the computer when I needed to replace the battery. In exasperation, I called Daniel. He was able to get the appropriate new battery for me and install it I have referred several of my friends to these great technicians, and we all agree that they are expert, fast, honest and patient. Apple-care said it was unfixable but a third party company could retrieve my files from my hard drive. I really thought this was just a data recovery job. To my surprise, Shine Electronic's was able to fix it because I brought it to them the same day it happened. I didn't lose any information. I signed up on Yelp just to write this review. Here's my story: My son has a 4 year old MacBook Pro and unfortunately his hard drive just malfunctioned out of he blue. It was a nightmare because he had one extremely important 15 page college essay on his desktop that he had not backed up as yet, and it was due to his professor in 4 days. He was on spring break and was considering going right back to school to rewrite it from scratch as his only option. After a trip to the Apple Genuis bar (of course it takes 2 days just to get in there which is extremely stressful), they confirmed the very unfortunate news that maybe 46% might be retrieved with Data Recovery- we set out to very quickly find the right place to perform the data recovery right away. They recommended those 2 places in the W 20's (you know the ones) to get a diagnosis and a time estimate etc. We went down there and they told us after seeing his computer that it looked like he was looking at 7-10 days to retrieve the data. Two days of it was due to siting in a que ( and time is of the essence with recovery of a failed HD) but mainly we were told that even though he only wanted that one paper recovered-- it would take this long to go through each line of retrieval because the information is scattered and random on the hard drive--therefore they had to recover all. A nightmare both regarding his deadline issue and also expense for that one essay. We were looking at around $150 per hour ( billed per man on machine not the 10 days timing). Probably at least $800 I'm guessing. ( although I've been told that data retrieval can run even higher) So, we decided to quickly run it up to Daniel and Min at Shine before they closed. Daniel looked at the diagnostic report from the Genuis bar and said that in 1 hour they might have a better idea of how many passes they would have to go to retrieve his paper, but he felt pretty good that he would be able to get most of his data. He would call my son to keep him posted. They began working on it right away! It didn't sit in some back room in a long line for 2 days. At 9:30 the NEXT MORNING (actually 2 business hours later and not 10 days) my son got a call from Daniel. He said that they had recovered his essay and where did he want it sent!!! Not only did they have the entire essay, but by that point they had also recovered 94% of his HD--and with a little more time would probably be able to recover the rest if he was interested in it. My son only wanted that essay and so they stopped at that. They also installed a wonderful new SSD Hard Drive and put two new rubber feet on the bottom- cleaned up the inside--and it was good to go by 10:30!!! And the bill--well lets just say that they said the retrieval was "not a big deal at all" and the whole bill was more than half of what it was probably going to be in the W 20's AND he got his essay on time!! Had my son gone with that other shop with the 7-10 day recovery he would probably have had to skip his spring break and gone back to school to start writing the essay from scratch. Let me just end with this--these guys are extremely knowledgeable and honest and because you get one on one service, you just can't beat it. When a HD malfunctions--you basically feel like you are in the ER waiting for a prognosis from the doctor. These guys held my sons hands -- they were incredibly responsive to his situation and I feel they also gave him a huge break in the wallet because he is a student. read more

The remote for my Roku broke and when I looked at it I could tell that one of the coils in the battery case had gone bad. I called Sharp (the TV manufacturer) and they said they could send me one for $40 and it would take 30 days because they were out of stock. I called and told them what I thought was the problem and they said they could fix it. I was able to go there, they fixed it in half an hour while I ran an errand locally, and charged me $10. This place deserves 10 out of 5 stars! My sister recommended this place to me when my laptop fell from my bed and the SSD disconnected from its slot. I brought it in to Shine Electronic, they took a look at it and fixed it in a total of 2 hours. All for a very reasonable price. They were very nice and explained everything to me too.
