I had a security camera system installed by Michell over 10 years ago and I recently started having issues with the recording and playback. He suggested we troubleshoot over the phone before sending a technician to my house. Since the equipment is old, he had to send a technician after all. While I was waiting for the technician to arrive, I fiddled with the settings and ended up resolving the issue on my own. What really stood out to me was the honesty--both Mitchell and the technician could have easily said I needed new equipment or upgrade or unnecessary work, but instead they were supportive and completely upfront. In spring of 2015 True Value installed a security system on our house after a meeting with Mitchell where he explained what would be done and what he would supply and what the charges would be. He was very clear in his explanation. The installation was very professional and clean. Mitchell clearly explained how everything worked. Since the installation we had to call him 2 times in 4 years, once for a dead battery in one of the sensors and another for an explanation to reset a setting in the system. I purchased a fairly sophisticated alarm system from Mitchell over two years ago. I initially reached out to him because I wanted more than the "2 doors and 1 motion detector" intro package offered by the national chains. Mitchell came to my home and we spent hours designing a system including not only all of the typical stuff such as door and window sensors and motion detectors, but also glass break monitors and water alarms for the laundry room and sump pump areas. Mitchell did not "sell" any of this stuff to me. I asked for it and we designed an excellent system together. The reason that I am writing the review today is because this is the first time that I have spoken to Mitchell in over two years. I received an alert on my control pad that a battery was low and I didn't know which device needed the new battery. I called Mitchell on his cell phone. He picked up on the second ring. I had the battery in a drawer and he identified the device and walked me through the battery change over the phone. This tells you a couple of things: 1. The equipment that Mitchell sold to me over 2 years ago works without issue. I literally have had not spoken to him in over 2 years because I have NEVER had a problem. My big problem today was that I needed a new battery. I'm OK with that. 2. Mitchell answers his phone. He is extremely responsive and knowledgeable. Mitchell is a good guy. Of all the people I called he was the only one who a) Answered all of my questions b) Picked up the phone on a holiday weekend c) Responds to my calls at 9-11 PM at night if I have a question or problem. My wife and I purchased a brand new construction home on Long Island which included a Honeywell home security system already installed. Before reaching out to the company who did the installation, I did some research on security companies and did not find this company at all but I did find True Value Home Security on Yelp. Impressed with all the positive reviews, I called and the owner, Mitchell himself, answered and scheduled an onsite visit with us. During our initial consultation, he explained we already had everything installed and we were pretty much all set. All we really needed was the monitoring service unless we wanted additional alarm contacts on the windows and security cameras which we did. Mitchell was not pushy or "salesly"at all and was able to explain how he differs from all the big box security companies. After our consultation, the initial security company who installed everything before my purchase called me to see if I wanted to set up service. I asked for the pricing for the same items and services we discussed with Mitchell and True Value's pricing was much better. Ultimately we purchased additional contacts for all windows and security cameras. The setup for the alarm portion was flawless, he added delays for the doors and synced everything to the central station and explained how to use the home panel. He also set us up with the "total connect" app which allows us to set the alarm from my mobile phone. The installation for the security cameras was beyond impressive and flawless. Mitchell's associate ran the lines through the outside of the house with Mitchell's instructions and supervision. He did such an amazing job, you cannot even see any of the wiring on the outside of the house. In the room I have designated for the panel, monitor and recording system, he ran the wires beautifully. He even re-stapled the wiring from the cable company who did an extremely terrible job. I must say, Mitchell really went out of his way in everything he did. Throughout the installation, it started to rain, but this did not stop Mitchell with the outside portion of the installation process. He even helped me remove a sticker from a foyer window which was on the 2nd story about 18 feet up with the use of his ladder and did not leave any marks on my walls. Post installation, Mitchell has responded to my emails in a timely manner, sometimes within minutes. He has exceeded all my expectations and we are overall very satisfied. Purchased the home security monitoring system from Mitchell 6 years ago. The installation was completed and the system was operating within a few days of placing the order. Mitchell did a survey of the house to be sure that every weak access point was fitted with an alarm, including smoke, heat, gas and even a flooding sensor in the basement. We wanted to switch from Slomin's to some other company for no particular reason other than our Slomin's contract was up. I did not feel any love towards Slomin's. I found TRUE VALUE SECURITY SYSTEMS on Angie's List and we went with Mitchell. Not even sure whether annual contract price/payments are lower than Slomin's or any other company. The catch is in customer service. I have to say that Mitchell (owner) really cares about his customers. I'm not saying he is not here to make money and provides good service because he loves humankind... But, he has proven to us through last 3 years that: 1. I wouldn't recommend this company at all. I am a firm believer in first impressions and the rep that answered my call was just flat out rude! I called to inquire on pricing to reconfigure an already installed security camera system (previously installed by a private person that has very limited availability) and while asking me very short and dry questions (being rude but I ignored it) about my issue, the rep then responds in a very snarky way with "then why don't you just call the person that installed it before?" I responded telling him that if it were that simple or obvious I wouldn't be reaching out to him. He then says usually those that get private installs aren't going to pay the cost of a security company. Excuse Me?? You just lost business from a prospective client because of your condescending and idiotic assumption. To make an absurd assumption about someone's financial capabilities based off a previous installation is not only rude but very unprofessional. He took the time to explain all the products he offered, however, in no way tried to up-sell me. The system he installed, which is a standard residential system, is easy to use and compact. In my search to find a security alarm service, I also checked out ADT. While ADT's installation fee was a bit cheaper, the actual alarm system installed by True Value was of higher quality (I'm talking about the actual alarm device). In addition, I immediately felt that Mitchell was going to be much more accessible in the long run. Large companies like ADT have large clients and can only service so many of them. In all my interactions with True Value, Mitchell has always answered the phone personally or has gotten back to my emails within the day. Mitch is very personable. He is straightforward. It is such a pleasure to do business with him. We just purchased a home in Long Island. Most people would come in and sell you everything. Mitch, on the other hand, knew the house had an alarm system previously and tried to see if he could use as much of the old alarm system's stuff so we could save money and not spend unnecessary money.
