I would like to start this review explaining that I always hear people complain about how "mom and pop" stores can never survive with the advent of the "big box" stores and there are many people who will actually boycott the "big box" stores in favor of the little guy. I decided to give this place a try because I felt a neighborhood store would provide the friendly service that most would expect. My HP laptop was just shutting off and we decided that we needed to see what the problem was. I called the store and was told that we would recieve a free diagnostic check. That was the highlight of the experience. We brough the computer in and was told they would look it over and let us know what they find. After a few days we called the shop and was told there they thought it was a virus but needed to confirm. If this was the case, we would be looking at $95. That was worth it. After calling back, they mentioned that this could possibly be the motherboard, a $200 + job where my response was, we might as well just replace the laptop. After a few more days we were told that they believe it was a virus and would have the laptop in a few days. If you notice, the canned response was "a few days". My wife finally called them on a Tuesday and they said it would be ready the next day. She tried calling in the morning and even went to the store. The gates were closed for the majority of the day. When she called back in the evening, we were told that "they were in"!! The gates were closed but they were in, very interesting. We were told that they would definitely have it the following day (Thursday). When my wife asked what happened the day before they told us that there was a "family emergency". So which was it, a family emergency or you were there with the gates down? Not a great business move to lie to your customers. Finally, Thursday had arrived and I told my wife that I would pick it up. It was supposed to be ready that afternoon. When I got to the store, sure enough, it was not ready. It was "90 %" ready which for me was just ridiculous. The owner stated that he told my wife it would be ready between 5-7 which is B.S., as stated, he said the afternoon. I then asked in a calm voice, "is this how you normally do business?" and was told, "yeah, this is how we do business!". No sooner, the owner then got loud with me and told me to take my computer and get out of the store if I am going to yell. Funny, I never raised my voice. In any event, I took my computer home after wasting nearly 3 weeks for nothing. Really surprised that this guy was such a jerk and would recommend that if you are looking for computer repair, try Staples or the Geek Squad. I wish I could give this place no stars!! read more

I tend to acquire things that break shortly after I get them. My poor dog broke his leg three days after I adopted him (not my fault). I spilled water on my laptop weeks after buying it (pretty much my fault). In the case of the latter (though wouldn't it be exciting if they also offered vet services?), it was Park Slope Computers to the rescue. A highly rated repair shop walking distance from my house? Yes please. They correctly diagnosed the issue, special-ordered me a new keyboard, installed it in under an hour when it came in, and did it all for much, MUCH less than I expected to pay. And NICE people. My break-related bad luck aside, there's nowhere else I'd trust my computer with. read more

It pained me, deeply, to drop almost $150 on a year-old netbook, but I'm happy to say it's running better than ever. Edward not only repaired my computer, he also took the time to explain to me how I could avoid the same fate (my hard drive crashed because I allowed my computer to become overloaded with viruses). I really appreciated his patience and the overall customer service. Even though I hated dropping the money, the service was so good that it didn't feel so bad. In addition, they allow you to use their in-store computers for free while yours is being repaired. I don't know if this is standard, but it was really appreciated. NOTE: LONG review, written at different stages of getting a repair job. Skip to the bottom for the quick lowdown. I took my ThinkPad in to disinfect a hard drive and swap in a larger one I'd bought before and install Windows XP on it. This was a Friday. Eddie said it'd be done Saturday or Monday. Tues or Wed after not hearing anything I called to ask the progress. The other employee there told me basically Eddie was still working on it. Thursday they called to say it was done, I went in. Eddie wasn't there, the other employee told me the charge, 140 something. I paid it. They had the old drive in which seemed to have been disinfected, and to make sure I would now be able to use my computer, while in the store I swapped in the new larger drive. Instead of Windows XP starting up it went right to the recovery mode. Which was the basic situation I had with that drive when I brought it in (they had added a partition as requested). So I showed the employee the situation and he said leave it here & we'll finish the job. That was last Thursday. I said it would be great if it could be done by the weekend and he indicated that was possible. It's now Tuesday, I called them Friday and Saturday. They did not pick up or reply to either of my messages. I don't necessarily expect a shop with a small staff to always have up-to-the-second updates, but 1. not finishing the job when they said they would 2. making me waste a trip there to pick up a laptop that was still not in working order 3. not informing me when the computer would be done 4. not even returning my call, AFTER I paid for the repair (which I now regret) -- the first two are not too shocking unfortunately, but adding the last two shows a kind of contempt for the customer. This is getting very "meta." He apologized up and down, explained that he'd been swamped and had been given the impression somehow that the job had been done. I almost wasted another trip there the next morning when no one was there 50 minutes after they were supposed to be open, but just as I was leaving Eddie strolled up. So I got my computer back with all done as promised. CONCLUSION: Eddie explained the store's business has increased about sevenfold in a short amount of time. The repairs are still largely done by him, so sometimes he can get behind schedule. All in all, he's a very nice & capable guy who's sincere about following through on his promise to his customers. Judging from the other reviews most people are happy with his work. So I'd say just be aware that as of this writing, his scheduling can go awry at times and be ready to be proactive if timeliness is important to you. I'm incredibly lucky to live right around the corner from this place. I was having some trouble figuring out how to get the information from my busted ibook off the harddrive, and had gone to tekserve and the genius bar--but was discouraged over the prices. So, I ended up deciding to pull out the hard drive myself--not knowing very much at all about hardware. I stopped into PS computers with a few questions, though I was wary of the lack of apple branding (for some reason I had been brainwashed into believing mac computers need special attention--hence the inflated prices at TekServe) but the owner was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions most helpfully. He was out of the item I needed (an external casing to store my salvaged drive) but directed me to a spot where I could get it. To top it off, he even lent me a hard-to-find tool! Park Slope Computers is a great neighborhood shop, and the next time I tackle a DIY project, upgrade my computer, or need a repair--I'm going here first. P.S. Mac users---I know it looks like a pc place, but the owner is very helpful and I would definitely recommend going here before schleping into the city to hit the genius bar. read more

I read the Yelp reviews and thought Park Slope Computers could save my laptop which was infected with malware. I went to the store and they said they would clean up my computer for $100. Okay, I said. It will take two to three days; we'll call you, they said. I called on day 3 and it wasn't done. They called me on day 6 saying the clean up didn't take care of the problem and for $40 they would wipe my hard drive and reinstall everything, saving all my pictures, documents etc. Okay, I said. We'll call you, they said. After a few days they hadn't called, so I called them. Oh yeah, it's done, they said, 140 dollars. Okay, I said, and I went to the store. The guy at the store turned on the computer to show me it worked. I was delighted. I got home and it turned on, but it wouldn't connect to the internet. No wireless driver, the computer said. Funny, it used to work, even with the malware. So I take it back to the store and they apologize. We'll fix it, they say, we'll call you. No phone call for days, so I called them. They said I needed a new network card. Internal or external, my choice. Bull, I said. I got a network card cheaper from Amazon than from their store and installed it myself. At least I wasn't waiting for a phone call. This was a 2 week affair. Thank you Park Slope Computers for getting rid of the malware, but you screwed up the network card, or uninstalled something without reinstalling it. You never called when you said you would. This should have been cheaper and faster. read more

Absolute nightmare. I'm sure this place has absconded and stolen my computer. The man I was in contact with most was Edward Smallman, who is most likely the store owner. I already filed a 311 report, however the 72nd police precinct is reluctant to do anything about this situation, and advised me to try and file at a small claims court in order to get any sort of money back. I have been trying to get in contact with them since they moved their storefront around April 1st, their mailbox is constantly full and they have not returned my emails or phone calls. Backstory: I gave my computer to them around February to fix a viral issue, they returned it a month later in March, despite my diligent follow-up in regards to my 2 year old HP laptop. I brought my computer back to them because the next day, my computer had the same exact issue, nothing was resolved. Edward agreed to fix it without extra change to the original $95 I had paid. A week later he told me it was a memory issue, and had already ordered a chip for it. He told me it'd take a few more days, and that they were relocating to the Brooklyn Navy yard and it would only be drop-off and pick-up service. Since that day, I have not been able to reach them since they closed their store-front. It's April 16 now, a whole 2 months since I started this whole process. At this point, I'm looking into buying a mac. At least we can all agree the genius bar isn't gonna steal your computer. read more

To my surprise, I got it right the first time when I went looking to the internet locally for a great computer technician to help me with my problem. My beloved computer, for which I nickname Diamond, got a bad infection. From where I could not tell you. But it tried to gain complete control of my computer and invaded my windows registry. My firewall was not working any longer and there was no virus protection-because the virus knocked it all out. I saw this store was highly rated on Yelp and gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised with my service. The price to fix my beloved computer Diamond was below what I had expected. And they gave me door to door service. Thanks Park Slope Computers. I broke my laptop screen about a month ago and dragged my feet about getting it repaired, thinking it would cost me a thousand dollars and that I would get the major run-around, sort of like how I feel when I go to get a car repaired ("....and your brakes need fixing, and we're going to have to drain your whatchamacallit, and I'm sorry to tell you but we're going to have to replace your steering wheel...") This place is awesome. The guys who run it are incredibly nice and professional. They'll do a full diagnostic for free and if your computer is unfixable they won't do a hard sell or anything. I rarely, if ever, write Yelp reviews, but I need to make an exception in the case of Ed, who was able to save the data off of my external hard drive - Toshiba Canvios are pieces of shit, btw - with some software he was able to run. I went to Ed after another local repair place, Brooklyn Geek, charged me $25 just to rip open my HD and tell me there was nothing they could do, suggesting I send it to a data recovery place in California that would charge $1000+ to get the data off. What a joke! Ed came to my place to personally pick up the drive, then came back twice more to pick up/drop off my new external drive so her could transfer all the files over to it. I must start off by saying that Yelp makes you give at least one star, otherwise you can't post. These people deserve -5 starts.Nightmare. THE most unprofessional, unresponsive "business" people I have ever dealt with. I am furious. Started off great. They responded to my message and came to pick up my computer the next day. That was April 5. As of the close of business today, april 15th ...nothing. They don't answer their phone and even worse, for 5 consecutive days, their voice mail was full and I couldn't even leave a message. Today, I finally got through- only to leave 3 more messages and receive no call back or response. There is no diagnosis. Nothing has been done to my computer. I have been without it for over 10 days, with no hope of getting even a call back. DO NOT give your computer to these people. There is a reason why they have pickup and drop off service...so you can't go looking for your computer! After trying to fix my PC for about 3 weeks I broke down and looked for a PC repair place near me. My computer would not boot at all, not even into BIOS and I had tried everything I could, replacing the RAM and power supply and whatnot. I am very good with PC's. The one thing I can't do is motherboards. In my past experience, PC repair people have been incompetent and rude so I didn't have high expectations when I reached out to Park Slope PC. I called and left a message. The owner, Edward, called me back the same day and diagnosed my issue over the phone, I could tell when I spoke to him that he knew what he was doing. He was professional and patient with me since I asked a lot of questions. The next day he came and picked up my computer, took it to his place and ran tests on it. My motherboard was fried and I needed a new one and Edward was awesome in recommending a replacement, he sent me links for many options to choose from and when I called him to ask about which one would be best he patiently explained the ins and outs of each of them. When it arrived he installed it and updated all the drivers and BIOS stuff without messing with any of my files. Usually when something like this happens you need to reinstall everything from the ground up but Edward was awesome in this regard, he even retained my Windows license for me. I basically wanted my PC back exactly like it was, with nothing changed, and not losing anything. Edward preserved all of my files and programs and after I booted it up it was like nothing had ever happened. Furthermore, my PC was even better than it used to be. Edward installed all the newest drivers and even cleaned out my dirty, filthy case and fans. When I asked him about this he said he does it to all machines he works on, he cleans all of them because he takes pride in his work. When I got my PC back and inspected it I could tell it was handled with care. It looked brand new on the inside and all the wires were bundled up all neat instead of the crazy mess that I had kept them in. It booted up just fine and I haven't had any problems since I got it back. The best thing is that everything is how I left it. No files or programs were changed or missing. Usually when your PC dies out like mine and you need a new motherboard you can lose everything, but Edward preserved it just as I had left it. It even runs better now and is quieter, the guy goes the extra mile. It was also cool that he came to my place, picked it up, fixed it, and then dropped it off when he was done, with no extra charge. This was great for me cause I have a massive hernia right now and can't go anywhere. I have to concur with those who say that this business gives customers the run-around about when their computer is going to be ready, and does not call with updates on the repair job. I dropped my HP Pavilion laptop computer off on February 28, 2011after it crashed and ceased turning on. I found Park Slope Computers on yelp.com and gave it a try because I'm new to Brooklyn and like to support local businesses. I also figured that a smaller shop would service the machine faster than Staples or the other big box stores, which ship the machines off to lord knows where to get serviced, and then ship them back, which can add weeks to the repair process. More than two weeks in, I have yet to receive a definitive diagnosis on my computer, let alone a date on which it will be finished. When I first dropped it off on a Monday night, I was told it would be diagnosed by Tuesday or Wednesday. I called Wednesday and Thursday, and Saturday and was told that it had viruses and potentially hardware problems but was still being looked at. The next Tuesday, I was told that there were issues with the power supply, and it would be shipped off to some guy who deals with them, and be back by the next Tuesday or Thursday, at which time the hard drive would be re-partitioned. I called today (Tuesday) and was told that the power supply guy is still working on it and that there might be a problem with the motherboard, which is still being examined, and that I should call back later in the week. The costs quoted to me for the repair thus far are approaching $250, never mind what the ongoing diagnosis process might reveal, which when considering the cost of computers is quickly approaching the range of no longer worthwhile, not that anyone asked. 3/21/2011- I'm updating my review to reflect how everything worked out. Exactly three weeks to the day after dropping my computer off, one wasted trip to the store, and $340 I finally got my computer back. Within two hours of submitting my original Yelp review I receive an e-mail from Edward stating that he read the review, is sorry that the shop did not do better with communication, that they're really busy, etc. The very next day I'm advised that my computer has arrived back from the power supply repair man, and I'm provided with a diagnostic list, price, and assured that it can be ready within one business day.. The specific repairs and prices ended up as follows: (1) the power adapter tip could be replaced at no charge, (2) a blown chipset on the motherboard could be replaced at no charge, (3) the intermittent A/C jack could be replaced for $195 and (4) the infection present on the hard drive and reconfigure/reinstallation of Windows would cost $135. The first two complementary services would ordinarily have cost around $120, but were essential to the shop being able to examine the system. I could either choose to have the repairs done, or take my machine back at no cost. As I'd already sunk 2.5 weeks into dealing with the shop, I agreed to have the repairs done. $340 seemed fair, given the extent of the repairs, but was the upper limit of what I was willing to pay to have a 3 year-old HP 9610us that cost about $900 brand new repaired. Friday night 3/18 at 5:30pm I received a call from the shop stating that my computer was ready to be picked up. The next morning I received an email from Edward reiterating that the computer was ready to be picked up. I arrive at the shop 11:30am that Saturday only to find that after 3 attempts the computer will not boot. I leave empty-handed with assurances from the store attendant that it would be done by the end of the day (I live 10 subway stops on the A/F away from the shop). On my way home, I stopped and sent Edward an e-mail advising that the computer was not working, and that I expected it to be in working condition the next time I was told it is ready. I received a response from Edward over the weekend apologizing for the computer not being ready. He initially stated that he'd personally checked the computer before contacting me, but later indicated that certain programs they'd attempted to install had not fully downloaded (which for me does not indicate that it was checked). On Monday 3/21 I received a call from that the computer was ready and that Edward would personally drive it over to my home that day. Edward in fact did drop it off at 7:30pm, and apologized for the delays, stated that they were busy, etc. Upon inspecting the machine to see that it was operational, I paid the $340, plus tax. The machine works, for the most part, about as well as it ever has. So in short the work, once it was done, was satisfactory. But the hassle involved in actually GETTING the work done made doing business with Park Slope Computers significantly less than enjoyable. read more

Amended review: After I posted my negative review, I spoke with Edward, who was very helpful. He explained that there were actually a number of problems with the computer, which included the keyboard. He apologized for the poor communication and offered to order and install the keyboard at no cost to me. He continued working on it, and when it became clear that the machine might be unfixable (I informed him, finally, that I was buying a new computer - a mac, this time) he offered to do a data transfer for me at no cost. In the end, I found them to be extremely helpful and thorough. They worked very hard to make sure that I was satisfied with the service and even refunded my money when they couldn't fix it. Original review: This place has had my computer for over 2 weeks. I brought it in, paid for virus removal, and they fixed it in a few days. I brought it home and 20 minutes after start up it was having the exact same problem. I brought it back and they said they would take another look at it. I didn't hear back from them, so I called and they said it would be ready by Monday. I never got a call. I tried calling at least 5 times and left 3 messages, and got no reply. Finally, today, Thursday I tried calling and they didn't pick up again. i called back 3 minutes later using my google voice number and they did pick up. I feel like they were avoiding my call because it wasn't finished. Then, I was told that the person working on it wasn't in, and I should call back later. I am totally fed up with these people, and really just want my money back so I can cut my losses and take it somewhere else to be repaired. read more

Took my Acer laptop here for repair. The people who work here are friendly and informative. The connector for my power cable was faulty and had to be shipped off site (Chicago) for repair. I had it back within 5 business days and they threw in a new, longer cable. The work was guaranteed for 1 year. All in all I was very pleased with my interactions with this business. read more

Edward is terrific! I'd mistakenly shot videos in a format which was incompatible with my Mac. After spending hours on the phone with Apple and Panasonic (they seemed as confused as I was and directed me towards complex, expensive "possible solutions"), I called Edward. Long story short--he picked up the material within an hour, touched base with me throughout the day and presented a perfect job, all files converted, by early evening. Price was very reasonable. I think this is the best service I've ever received in NYC! He was professional, knowledgable, reliable and pleasant. I will use his services again and highly recommend him to others. read more

So my laptop was broken, everyone I called charged at least $50 just to tell me what was wrong, except Park Slope Computers! They diagnosed my computer overnight, and then put the computer back together overnight, and then they refused to charge me/let me make a donation for their services. These guys are awesome! These guys are really a friendly, helpful bunch. I took my Mac in to get the screen fixed, and, as it turns out, they don't do hardware repairs on Macs, BUT each person I spoke to there was very helpful in telling me where to go to get my Mac fixed. These guys pointed me in the right direction, and I wasn't even an official customer. I only gave 4 stars because I never actually used their repair services, but I am happy to say that their pleasant demeanor and genuine consideration for every person who walks through their door is top-notch and absolutely refreshing. read more

i'm the kind of person who researches everything before i purchase. but my busted laptop was sitting under my bed for weeks and my husband kept nagging me to get it fixed for my own sake. we live near park slope computers. I'll tell you it's a lovely storefront and looks neat inside like a store should. but it was like hotel california in there. or worse. I never saw anyone enter it, much less leave. but since i'm a lazy sob I decided i needed to give it a try. it didn't hurt that they have a really strong mission statement on the front on their web site: it's a written guarantee that they will help you till you are happy with the results. seriously, go read it for yourself! took 'em about a week to fix it. i was nervous because I didn't get any response from them- alright i'll admit, i am also that paranoid person who worries about leaving something as personal as a laptop to a store that has no reviews on yelp, citysearch, park slope parents, really, anywhere, but I did it anyway. but i realized when i looked behind the counter they have a lot of laptops with repair tickets. so that made me feel better, first off. since i live nearby i would walk in and ask about it and they would be very kind and apologize for the delay and follow up with a phone call. guess what! i'm writing this review on my laptop now. Edward, the guy who fixed it, was very nice and patient with me when I came in to claim it- and gave me great advice on how to maintain its new speediness. He was able to restore it to factory condition AND retain all of my music and photos- at a very decent price. I happened to mention Park Slope Parents and he told me that PSP members get a discount so it was even cheaper. it just doesn't get better than this. now i can continue to love my PC and not spend any crazy money on a mac!! read more

It's a rare treat to be hit by fantastic customer service and this place packs a wallop. I was treated like a long-term valuable customer on my first visit. I brought my laptop in for service and the work was quoted before it was performed, and completed sooner then I expected. The process was made very clear and all my questions patiently answered. The prices were terrific. I would have paid far more if I brought my laptop to a chain for the repairs. Edward helped me and was fantastic. This is one of the worst customer service I have ever dealt with and my computer didn't even get fixed after being at their store for three weeks! I came in b/c I thought this was the place for quality service, it was the opposite. My laptop screen kept blacking out after it powers on. The guy says okay we'll take a look at it and you should have your computer back in no more than two days. They call back the next day and said they found out the problem and we'll fix and be ready by day two. Alright, I was pleased so far. Suddenly, three days later I don't get a call back. I call them and they say they are still looking for the part in their other shops. I didn't know they had other shops? Five days later and no call back, I call them and they say that they are ordering the part and that it should be in a couple of days. Over a week later and NO CALL BACK, I patiently call them and ask what is the problem. They say the part is back ordered and there is nothing they can do about it. They don't even try to get it somewhere else and at this point I'm starting to believe that they don't know what they are doing. Three weeks into this fiasco and still no call of any updates I decide to just pick up my laptop from their store. I go in and request for my laptop. They get it and then say, "that's all". He didn't even apologize or ask if why I wanted my laptop back, unfixed. They did not care at all or even want my business. I send my computer over to BNY tech and my laptop was fixed in one day. There was no hassle and the guy was really nice. When it comes to fixing computers you can't mess around. Its just as important as owning a car. Park Slope Computers obviously doesn't know anything about computer repair and service. They disappointed me and I still can't believe what I went through. I wish I never went to these guys in the first place and none of this would have ever happen. So much time wasted for nothing. read more

Most computers which are more than a year or two old just aren't worth fixing unless the problem is fairly minor, and mine was no exception. Bad customer service. I took my desktop in to confirm that my PSU had been blown (didn't have a multimeter on hand to confirm myself). I could have easily done the repair myself in about 5 minutes, but I was told it could be fixed in an hour or so and the price was not extremely unreasonable. I got a call later that day that they had to order the part, but it would be in the next morning. That was the last call I got from them. I have called every day since then and have been told it would be finished by the end of the day and that someone would call me back. I have not received any call backs. Today, I called a second time after I did not receive a call from them. They told me that it would be fixed by the end of the day and that they were going to stay open late so that I could pick it up. When I got there, the store was locked up (about 5 minutes before the scheduled close) and the person there refused to even come to the door so I could try to explain the situation. I have not been treated honestly by most of the staff of the company. Update: The technician (person I dealt with initially) followed up with me to explain the reason for the delay and offered to do the repair at the cost of the parts. I declined and ordered the part to fix myself, but he seemed like an honest person that was too busy to deal with everything. I am sure he would have fixed it eventually. Overall, if you need something fixed in a timely manner, then you should look elsewhere. Additionally, try to deal directly with the technician as he seems like a very decent person, but the same can't be said of other employees. read more

This guy buys the cheapest used parts from eBay. I don't know what he charges for parts and labor but when he's "waiting on a part" it's because it just bought it off eBay to cut corners. Definitely beware this guy. read more

Ed, the owner of Park Slope Computers, is a phenomenal guy and an amazing, highly skilled computer specialist. I live in Park Slope (just a few blocks away from PSComputers), and will never go to another computer repair store again! I brought my computer in with a simple physical/body problem to my laptop. However, when I called a few other places, I was quoted pretty hefty prices to get it fixed. When I went in to Park Slope Computers, however, I showed Ed the problem with my computer and within 5 minutes he had completely fixed it, FOR NO CHARGE! He told me it was too small of a problem to have charged me anything. Is there another man in any industry in all of NYC that would not charge for work they perform? Ed and Park Slope Computers is exceptionally professional, and from the moment you walk in the front door you can feel from the atmosphere that your computer is in good, highly skilled hands. forget best buy and come here..I have an older laptop that crashed but I really wanted it up and running again so i called and explain my problem they told me just to bring my computer in and they will diagnose it for free, so I did. The next day I got a phone call telling me how they could fix it and how much it would be. The day after that I had a brand new computer, it was working like it did when I first bought it. The cute guy at the store, I think his name is AJ, recommend I upgrade my memory or RAM i guess it's really called, and told me since it was so an old computer that would really get it running. so i thought about and decided to go for it. Great decision my laptop is now running faster and better then my brother's laptop which is only a year old. Great neighborhood store, I would recommend it to anyone even if they didn't live in Brooklyn. read more

Stop searching. You've found your guy. Imagine concierge service where you pay NO MONEY unless and until you authorize the repairs and they are completed. The pickup and return were swift and prompt. And that's not even the best part -- Edward is wholly committed to getting your machine in excellent (and much improved!) working order, whatever it takes. His scrupulous attention to detail and customer satisfaction are surpassed only by his ridiculously low fee: $175 for a complete removal and restore of my entire system, further complicated by my inept attempts to fix things myself. (Talk about muddying the waters!) That in itself is enough reason to hire him, but unbeknownst to me was that all the follow-up work (and I had quite a lot - various program issues & settings that Carbonite could/would not help me with) he willingly and cheerfully did was INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL PRICE. I didn't even ask how much more this would cost until about the 4th time we communicated "post-op" and I said "I feel like I owe you some money." This is when he said it was all included in the original charge - I was flabbergasted and told him so. "You know, you could charge a LOT more than that - and people would be willing to pay it." He responded that he'd rather provide fair pricing and establish ongoing relationships with his customers, in hopes they would return, spread the word, etc. Refreshing in this day and age - clear-minded, far-sighted, and totally AWESOME. Just as an aside, compare this: I did try a service that Carbonite recommended for remote assistance and THEY charged me $130 to tell me they couldn't fix it. I give these guys 5 stars mainly because of the integrity and personability (I think I just made that word up) of the person I dealt with there. I had a blue screened Dell and a limited budget. Instead of talking me out of my money or giving me a spiel about doing some diagnostics for a fee and then repairing x, y and z, he gave me friendly, straight-forward advice about what my options might be. I feel like this guy truly saved me money for my benefit, not his, obviously, and treated me not like some potential idiot to get a few bucks off of, but like he was just a good guy and gave me the best knowledge he had for my situation. This is huge!! And rare, unfortunately. So 5 Stars for Park Slope computers - you will get a fair deal with these guys. Not only did I get great advice, but I took forever to pick up my computer and was not charged a fee or anything like that. All in all the guy seemed easy going and knowledgeable and let me repeat again non-moneygrubbing. Heck, I sound like I have a crush. After being stuck in Orlando last week with a dying hard drive, they band-aided a solution to help get me through a hurricane and a conference and then replaced the hard drive once I was home for an incredibly affordable price. Very helpful. We had an HP that died ( the day after the warranty expired!) and took it to park slope computers. They ran some tests and realized both the motherboard and hard drive were done. Continuously called us to update on progress. Since they couldn't help, no charge. The lesson: never buy an HP. read more
