My guess is that the first reviews given here on YELP are shills, friends or acquaintances of the folk at The Mac Support Store. Anyone who suggests that these folks are on par with Tech-Serve are so far off the track. These folks are rank amateurs, and the people at APPLE, INC should know exactly what kinds of operations they are giving their "authorization" to. This place does not deserve to be flying under Apple's authorization, PERIOD! Too bad, as we Brooklynites surely want and need a place where we can go to with a reasonable degree of expectation that we can get decent service without having to schlep into Manhattan. Well, good news is that BKLYN will be getting an Apple store all its own, and the Mac Support Store will slip into obscurity, where they rightfully belong. Location is so-so, for public transportation iffy at best especially if you're carrying something of weight. If you're driving, better have commercial plates or you'll get ticketed in a heartbeat, and even with the commercial plates, g'luck finding a spot on a weekday. Be prepared to schlep your goods up a relatively steep flight of stairs, and unless they've marked the way with a bit more clarity, be prepared to take a step into the garden at the Overlook Hotel (remember The Shining). Lackluster reception I can deal with, poor communication and follow-through on their part I cannot. NOT recommended. Take the advice of the most recent reviewers. Stay AWAY. read more

Having this place in the neighborhood is a plus. I am thankful to not have to travel all the way into the city to get a simple fix for my iphone or Mac. I'm also thankful, that I haven't had any serious problems with my Mac, so the simple fixes thus far have been decent with the Mac Support Store. I have had two iphone screens replaced. Each took the prescribed amount of time quoted by the techs. It was great to have the screen replaced so quickly. There a few old macs on display and some even for sale in the shop. They're nice, but incompetent. My apple computer would not wake up from sleep mode, even after a reboot, so I brought it to the "experts." They said it was the hard drive and I paid to replace it. Guess what? The new hard drive did nothing to fix the problem. I did a quick web search on this problem. Apparently it is a common problem for apple computers and the most frequent cause is the logic board. A few other possible causes were listed, but in over 100 tech sites, guess what hardware item was never, ever listed as the probable cause of this problem... that's right, the hard drive. Go elsewhere for repair unless you feel like flushing your money and your computer both down the toilet. read more

The Mac Support Store saved me at a time of near crisis when my MacBook Pro suddenly stopped working. They quickly diagnosed the issue, let me know that they may be able to recover my data even though the computer would not be able to work without a specific repair fee. All the prices for estimates and other work were clear and up-front, nothing hidden or confusing. This encouraged me to purchase a refurbished MacBook Air from The Mac Support Store which I decided to do within a few weeks after first going there. They were patient and informative every step of the way and helped me with any issue that came up while I came to use the Air, complete with most Apps that I need and some which I could relegate to an external drive if the computer needs more space. For my needs, everything was perfect. I would definitely recommend this company for purchases and repairs.The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, patient and kind. I always feel comfortable and happy going into their cool-looking space in Gowanus even though I live in Manhattan. I love my new little computer! read more

My wife and I each have a 20 inch iMac. One is about a year older than the other. Mysteriously, both died within a 24-hour period a couple of weeks ago. One would not start up, the other would start fine and would turn itself off repeatedly. We brought them in to the Mac Support Store. I erroneously told the store that neither was covered by AppleCare. It turned out that one was in its last month of coverage... as determined by the store (no thanks to me). The store diagnosed and completely fixed both machines within a week and a couple of days. One machine needed a new power supply (about $215); the other needed a new logic board (about $500 if not under Apple Care... as it was, $0). The folks at the store are rather phlegmatic... they don't seem to get that people whose computers have died are going to be needy and anxious. But that is my only complaint. I would go back here for a repair again. They had to get my data from an external hard drive that died while I was backing it up to cold storage. The thing was just dead. They obviously have experience with this sort of thing because they were back with a fix estimate within a day. It was a "tier 4" repair, i.e. the most expensive. But after my approval, they did it in a short amount of time. As others have written here, they are on the pricier side, but it seems they know what they are doing. read more

I dropped my computer and was so sad thinking it would be way to pricey for me to fix it. I took it to the Mac Support store and they fixed it in two days without breaking the bank. It is working perfectly. I am so excited to have a place like this so close to home. I recently looked up The Mac Supprt Store, to see that my review had been taken down. Maybe it was my harsh language, or maybe these Scheisters are good at getting negative reviews taken away, and posting fabricated positive ones( look for the 5 star posts where the person only ever wrote one review). Anyway, the short story is answered a Craigslist add for a used Ibook G4. It turn3ed out to be from The Mac Support Store. I thought that buying a used computer from a Mac Athorized repair Shop Would be OK.............Guess What? They were very rude while I was handing over my hard earned money, and when I got the computer home it was malfunctioning. I didn't take it back to them, because they have a reputation for 1. no returns on reconditioned items 2. Lengthy. (1 month or so) Repairs. Do not Consider any positive reviews of this store, if this was the only review posted by that person. I decided to take the laptop to the Harlem Apple Store, where the repair took one day, and was solid. read more

This store wasted two weeks of my time and gave me and my wife the worst customer service experience we've ever experienced, and that includes dealing with cable companies. My wife told the owner--and by the way, the "shop" is located in a living room apartment--that she would go on the message boards to inform Park Slopers about this pathetic outfit and so I'm on it... They closed several times without notice, either on their voice mail (which is all I got, I called them four times in a two week span and no one ever answered), or even on the door of the "shop." They communicate with you about your repair by email, even though your computer is with them to be repaired! I asked the owner about that practice and he gave a blank shrug.... Maybe our experience was an aberration but I tend to doubt it--my advice is take the train ride into the city to get your machine fixed. read more

Was no help at all the person charged me 29 dollars for a diagnostics fee on my iPhone 7 then he tells me that if he's successfully fixes my phone, it would be 29 dollars extra for the labor and if he's unsuccessful he would charge me 9 dollars of labor so I waited about 30 to 40 minutes when the worker came back to the counter he tells me that he couldn't fix my iPhone 7 so he charges me 9 dollar for unsuccessful labor, so I tell him what is the problem of the phone he tells me that he doesn't know the problem it can be the software or a bad cable from in the phone or the mother board then he tells me that I need to take it to a Apple Store to get it fixed. NEVER AGAIN! would I go to this shady unprofessional warehouse called a MAC SUPPORT store in the middle of other factories. read more

I first called the Mac Support Store to ask questions on what I should do with the problems I was having with my Imac (10 years old). The person on the other end wasn't very forthcoming with the information. I decided I'd pay the $30 to get the diagnosis and brought the unit in. The person I dealt with was borderline rude; barely made any eye contact. He wasn't helpful at all. I dropped off the unit and 24 hours later, I received an email outlining about $700 in repairs. I called the store and spoke to Judy (I think that was her name). She was super helpful and explained the estimate and the options I had. Apparently the unit had a bad hard drive and a broken CD player. It also needed an updated operating system, etc. And apparently $100 charge to transfer data to an external drive (like copy & paste! pretty complicated stuff). I decided against having them service it and made an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar in the Meatpacking District in Manhattan. The guy at the Genius Bar saw that I had 50 MB left (out of 320 GB) on my hard disk so the Mac wouldn't boot up and run. He helped me select about 20 GB of data and helped me transfer it to an external drive I brought in. The Mac runs fine now with 20GB of free space. So....if I didn't know anything about computers, I probably would've accepted the proposal from the Mac Super Store and had my Imac "fixed" there, paying about $300 - vs. free at the Genius Bar! Maybe the hard drive is damaged and needs to be replaced - maybe not. I don't know. It runs just fine now... read more

I received terrible service from this company. I bought a MacBook from them three years ago that I complained in the beginning that it had a battery problem and now it is dying because of a battery problem. I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt, and went back to do more business with them. I brought it back to be repaired Friday morning, and bought a new refurbished computer. I figured it was running a bit slow I will get a new computer and give the old one to my son. They told me my diagnostic will be ready Saturday afternoon and I can pick it up or decide what to do. The diagnostic fee used to be free and now they charge 40 bucks. They don't absorb that fee into the repairs if you decide to repair it, it's just extra. So I spent $1400 on a refurbished MacBook Pro. I get home and that computer did not work. So I bring it back. They replaced it with an identical computer. This is Saturday now. I'm waiting for the diagnostic from them. I don't hear from them until 4 o'clock which is the exact time they are closing. This does not allow me to even decide if I want them to fix the computer or for me to pick it up. But I figure it's OK I will work on my new computer. So I sat down to work on my new computer, and it crashes 15 times within an hour. Mind you this is after the 4 PM closing time on Saturday so now I can't get my computer back until Monday. I had a job do on Sunday that was worth $2000 and because I couldn't do it I lost the money and the client. When I returned on Monday, they tell me that the computer that I just bought is broken and they have to refund my money and there's no other computer to replace it. So now they want me to take the money that I just spent for the computer and fix the old one. I told him how unhappy I was, and that they didn't care about my business at all. I suggested a small gesture like refunding my 40 bucks for my diagnostic fee. But they would not do one single thing to make sure I felt better as a customer. They would rather lose my business and my mother's business. These people are only about taking your money and do not care about customer service or the customer. You can risk it if you want to buy spending your money there, but for me I will never ever ever ever ever return there. I had previously sent about seven people there to use their services, I will make sure that I reach out to them and tell them to not go there. If I were you, I wouldn't do it. read more

Hi I took my Iphone here on vacation because it wasn't charging. The good news - took me right away, were friendly and professional. They cleaned it out and pronounced it fine, but by the evening it was not charging again, and when I got home a week later, the Apple store said it had water damage (having tripped the sensor) and needed replacing (it didn't get wet between those two events). I don't know if Mac Support checked that or not, so at first I was put off thinking they missed something important - but just went to another non-Apple store in my home town and was also told it just needed cleaning. I've been meaning to write this review for a while! Brought my MacBook Pro in here last year after it stopped working during an important conference. I was freaking out! After doing some online research, and consulting with a few different places, it seemed like the logic board was most definitely fried. I will agree that the prices seem to be a little high, BUT, they were also the only place I consulted that said it could be repaired rather than suggesting I buy a brand new computer. The techs not only repaired my Macbook beautifully, but I was able to improve the performance by upgrading it. I found that the business owners were very friendly and also very patient, answering all of my questions in detail and taking time to discuss different repair and upgrade packages. Very satisfied with their service, and I would recommend to anyone in the city. read more

I'm giving the Mac Support Store 1 star for their horrible customer service and lack of transparency. After paying the diagnostic fee, I was quoted for $580.00. I tried making sense of the estimate, but needed some help. To pay this much money, I want to know exactly what I'm paying for and to have it explained to me in terms that I can understand. That's a reasonable request for any business that's quoting a customer hundreds of dollars. I called and spoke to the same person who I met at the front desk. He didn't really give me straight answers, and it was only after asking many questions that I found out the only thing I actually needed to get my computer up and running again was a new hard drive cable, which was quoted at $79.00 ($500 less than the estimate). I wouldn't have known this without calling them, and they made it really hard to get straight answers about the repair. The employee met most of my questions with condescension and rudeness. I highly recommend going somewhere else - it's not worth it to get treated like dirt while paying way more money than you need to. read more

they were really supportive on the phone, and fixed my totally smashed screen in an hour, which was a lifesaver. When I dropped my phone, though, the screen had kind of popped off a little, and this problem started again a few weeks later -- and the new screen cracked again when I dropped it :( I expected to pay another $140 to fix it, but they were completely helpful and understanding, and fixed it for free as covered under the warranty, and the phone is as good as new a second time. So I highly recommend the place for phone repairs -- much better service than Apple provides. read more

I've used the Mac Support Store twice and both times they worked hard to get my computer back to me quickly (graphic card first and then a dead HD). I was very happy with the results and they were super friendly to me and my 3 young kids. My kids had a great time working with the display computers while we waited and I was thrilled to not have to drag them into Manhattan! Sometimes the phone lines are full and you have to hold for a while. That's my only complaint. Other than that, I've had 2 excellent experiences with the Mac Support Store. Note: They have 2 parking spaces reserved for customers at a nearby garage. read more

These guys are dishonest. They placed my external drive on their own casing w/o telling me, and placed it in a box so i wouldn't see it. Not only that, but the new casing has no extra external USB or Firewire ports like my old one so I'm screwed. You see. I have a mini mac, and the old external drive matched it beautifully (same design), now I got their mismatch ugly designed box. Also this is the second time in less than a year I get this drive fixed. Last year I paid $500, this time $130 since their warranty is only good for 90 days. I went back to see if I could get my old drive case back just a day later and they said they "threw it away". I know these things are valuable, so they're probably putting another drive in there and selling it separately. I will never go back there, and I would recommend for everyone to stay away from these scammers. read more

Do NOT take your computer to the Mac Support Store! When you first call, things sound great. Free diagnostics within 24 hours. And they do deliver on that. Unfortunately, once they've got your computer in hand, the trouble starts... In my case, this involved several different estimates on how long the repair would take, depending on who I spoke to. When the work was done, I received no notification, but had to make the follow-up call. And here comes the kicker! When I brought the computer back home and set it up, I discovered that it had the exact same problem it had when I had brought it in! Again, I received no response to my email for two days, but had to call in--only to get a "dude" who could not answer my questions, but told me that he "was not a technology guy." No apologies, no offer to credit my account, no nada. I'm furious! Please note: In place of a response to my emails, I just received a letter in the mail asking me to remove this review--or I would be taken to court for "slander and defamation." read more

Came here with the the Lady in my dreams lol. She had to fix her laptop. They provided a new battery and updated the ram. The price to fix was not bad. I visited here because my hard drive failed, and I needed it replaced. I went in and I was helped immediately and nicely. I explained to them my situation and they invited me to wait momentarily while their techs diagnosed my computer. I waited for a whole minute before their head tech, a nice guy named Jeffrey, invited me to his desk. There, he plugged in my laptop and verified that it was, in fact, a failed hard drive. This was a FREE diagnostic, mind you. I could have refused the repair and they wouldn't have charged me a dime. I paid $250 for a new 250 GB HD and a Snow Leopard install (free upgrade from leopard which I was using). Par for the course. He told me that the install would be ready in 3 days. I wasnt too keen on that, and asked him politely if they could finish the repair sooner, and he said 'we'll do our best'. Sure as shit, they called me the next day and the repair was done. My computer is noticeably zippier, and they even cleaned my laptop for me! They were very appreciative of my business as well. Overall I had a 5-star experience and recommend this place to all Brooklyn mac users! read more

This place is consistently awesome. I work around the corner and am working on a big film project that's taking years to complete. Everyone who works here is not just nice-- they are total sweethearts. A couple of months ago, a very important document I was working on suddenly turned into astericks. Being the rushed, neglectful person i am, I had not backed anything up. Then the same thing proceeded to happen to two more documents in succession and I had a big meeting in the morning. I was freaking out! I spent the morning on the phone and was told by other mac experts that it was a bug in the Word version i was using. I walked in completely frazzled and was greeted completely warmly and asked to wait as the brilliant technician took my computer and checked things out. 15 minutes later, he comes out and shows me how to retrieve them completely simply--he just opened them in another program. They hooked me up with a brilliant and lightweight external drive and i finally saved everything on Time Machine. I now go in here whenever I need something. I recently found the perfect Macbook Air case here as well for a great price. I seriously recommend this place and hope they stick around for a long time. It's never too crowded and they are just incredibly nice and helpful--everything you want in a neighborhood store. read more

I found the staff at the Mac Support Store to be incredibly helpful - like, way-above-and-beyond helpful. They are smart, ethical people whose business reflects their values. My situation was complicated, and at the end of the day they advised that it was in my best interests to get the machine repaired at the Apple Store, even though they could have made a bunch of money off of me. Like I said - very ethical. In the meantime, though, they bent over backward to help me stay productive without my machine - renting me a loaner, troubleshooting use of the loaner with my Time Machine (for FREE), helping me swap out my hard drive - really, way above and beyond the call of duty. The negative reviews below are all pretty old, and I think the store has changed its relationship with Apple since those reviews were written. My guess is that the customer experience has improved greatly as a result. read more

If you're stressed out and worried because your mac computer isn't working properly- AVOID THIS PLACE. The queen they have at the front desk is extremely rude. He looked me up and down when I walked in, was never welcoming or friendly, and he literally rolled his eyes at me! For no reason. He asked me a question, I answered the question and as I tilted my head to retrieve something from my back pack, he throws his hand into the air, and rolls his eyes. As if my patronage of his business was some how a waste of his time. As if I was annoying him by bringing my computer in to be serviced. I felt so uncomfortable. Totally reminds me of old school TekServe days. Fixed demolished iPad Air 2 screen (which is more than just the glass!) quickly and efficiently. Looks beautiful and functionality is perfect!
