Pastrami!!! Most delicious pastrami you've ever had! No lie! They pack it on deep too. Very tasty and you could definitely share and still be satisfied with your portion. Even though I don't... ANYWAY, the chili cheese fries are decent but I compare them to my all time favorites (Larry's) and so I don't adore them as much as others do. And others do! In fact, even if I had no knowledge of Larry's Chili Cheese fries in Montclair, I still probably wouldn't call The Hat's my favorite. Extremely disappointed and unsatisfied. I've never been to the hat before. I've lived in upland for 4 years and my mom and I decided to give it a try. My mom ordered a cheeseburger and I ordered a steak sandwich we got 2 drinks and a large chili cheese fries to share $28 total.Knowing that a steak sandwich with mayo pairs perfectly with steak sauce I ask for some and they don't have any. I start to assume that they're steak sandwich is juicy and had such great flavor, no sauce is needed. We get our food and we're excited to try it, we've heard nothing but good feedback about this restaurant. Chili cheese fries are huge and are loaded with chili and cheese. We dive in and they're nothing special. So we move on to our sandwiches. I take the first bite and it was so dry. There's nothing on my sandwich and I had to put extra mayo and ask for barbecue sauce. I finish my sandwich and I'm so disappointed in this restaurant. Their steak sandwich was $10 solo, they offered no steak sauce and they've had the driest steak ever. I'm never coming back here again. It was a waste of time and a waste of money. If you want good food head to Connals off of 7th and mountain. They have great steak sandwiches, burgers and chili cheese fries with a ton more options and all for a reasonable price. What happened? I've been going to the Hat for over 20 years. I always get either chili fries or the pastrami. Tonight I got both. The chili fries were horrible; never have they been so greasy and bland. There was absolutely no flavor, other than a slightly rancid/spoiled taste. I removed the chili hoping I could salvage the fries. Unfortunately the fries were really soggy and dripping with oil. Not the chili oil, but the oil the fries were fried in! NEVER have I experienced such horrible food at the Hat! Onto the Pastrami... The sandwich has certainly gotten smaller, more grizzle, and greasier. I could go on, but I won't. Just very disappointed that one of my favorite fast food restaurants has gone so far down hill. In looking at the recent reviews, it seems that this is the trend, not a one off occurrence. I usually come here and the chili cheese fries are good but when I went in today the fries were stale the entire thing look like they dropped the entire tray where there were fries under the fry tray and it was a mess. I had gone through drive thru like usual. This place is definitely a hit or miss. Btw I ordered at 12:00pm around lunch time and I would usually go around dinner time. I suggest to check your food and try the fries before taking it home and end up having to just throw it away. read more

The sandwich was good in size and the pastrami good in quantity like expected. But it was just salt. There was blandness to the meat and I felt like it was sitting in pastrami salt juice for 6 hours all day at the bottom of a warmer. The chilli fries. My family and I picked up two pastrami's and one order of small fries and three large drinks totaling over $31.00 dollars. Went through the drive thru. The woman working the window was less than friendly and broken English where you can't understand them speaking or repeating your order back to you. I have been going to the hat for 40 years. I love the pastrami sandwiches. Unfortunately the last couple of times I was surprised at the portion of pastrami in the sandwich. You used to be able to make another sandwich with the portion of pastrami you got in just one sandwich. The first time I went, I thought maybe it was a fluke so I tried again. This is my third attempt and I am very disappointed. For $10.49 I would expect better. I will try a different location. The Upland store is lacking. read more
