I LOVE this place. The Hat is one of my top favorite restaurants. I come here occasionally with my family usually for lunch or dinner and I have never been disappointed at all. To be honest, I've never tried their pastrami sandwiches. I usually get their ham & swiss cold subs, but the next time I go, I'm gonna try their pastrami sandwich. I also love how big the portions are for their small order of fries. At other fast food places, it would be considered a large! But yeah, I love this place!! I lived in LA for 25yrs earlier in life and had never been to The Hat. I was always on the Westside and liked Johnny's Pastrami. In town this week for business I decided to try it. What a disappointment. The pastrami was flavorless. There was so much of it that I had to peel away enough that I could have made another sandwich before I could get a bite. It came with a thin pickle slice and a little mustard, which I could barely taste. I also ordered the 'Wet Fries'. Had I known there would be a plate full of them that 4 people could have ate, I wouldn't have ordered it. The lady taking my order could have said something like 'Uh, is that just for you? Oh no honey, just get the regular fries, you'll never finish those'. Needless to say 3/4 of the fries got thrown out. For 15$ for pastrami sandwich, fries, and a soda, that's a little pricey. My Husband's family was always recommending this place, so I finally gave in and it was great. Had the cheeseburger and onion rings, I never usually finish a burger but you better believe I finished this one. I physically could not finish the onion rings but they were so delicious I tried to, it's definitely a man's portion of food. I tried a bite of my Husband's ham and swiss sandwich and it was so fresh, where ever they get their deli meats and cheeses is definitely quality. We just drove threw but you can see inside and it looks very inviting. I grew up w the hat and I remember this guy who worked there for Soooooooo long! Always drive through... white guy, long hair... he was cool. Now they have a completely different staff... the food is still good, but just a tad different then what it used to be... my sisters n I used to ritually watch the new melrose place every week with those chili fries n burgers... very very good food.
