Left: wet fries with gravy ($6.75). Right: pastrami dip ($12.60)

The Hat is a local institution in the Southern California area with multiple locations throughout, even with a location in Las Vegas. This location is in Brea right at the intersection of the 90 and 57 freeways. They are best known for their pastrami and their massive portions. I got the pastrami dip ($12.60) which is their most popular dish. Pastrami is piled on a French roll with mustard and pickles and dipped in au jus. I also got the wet fries with gravy ($6.75) which was just fries topped with their gravy. I didn't realize just how big the portions were but it was a huge pile of fries. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior reminded me of an old school diner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I arrived there was a long line for the drive through, but ordering inside I got my food within minutes of ordering. The portions were great for the price and the pastrami was tender. I'd be interested in their other offerings.

Had been to their other location and here couple time in the past. Was in craving for pastrami chili fries and man they delivered and it's simply just awesome & delicious and filling. Big parking lot and this place has been around for ages, well kept and maintained, got patio seating area overlooking street. Inside also has big seating area, mainly booths for 4 or 2, big table is in the back against the wall. Big menu but most are here for the famous pastrami dip and the chilly chess fries w/ pastrami. Staff are nice and friendly, the owner was there and took orders (since there was a line) and he just crushing it by. Ordered and took about within or less than 5min, you got your foods. The prices are just reasonable and affordable for sure, a very thick and generous amount of meats sandwich is for $13 and the pastrami chili cheese fries are around $19. Great & tasty meat, the sandwich is good (you can requested for different type of bread, but why). The pastrami chilli cheese fries is just HUGE and so yummy, once you start eating, you just can't stop. Yes we finished but there are around 10 fries left...but the rest are well cleaned. Worth it, definitely no question. Service is great, great location and well established place too. Can't wait to come back.

We were craving pastrami sandwiches for dinner, and this place definitely hit the spot. We ordered two pastrami dip sandwiches (one with mayo), a small order of onion rings, chili cheese fries, and two fountain drinks. The pastrami was tender, juicy, and not dry at all. The onion rings were crispy and cooked perfectly, while the chili cheese fries were flavorful without being overly spicy. The portions were generous for the price, making it a great value. The service was fast, so it's best to know what you want before ordering. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was plenty of indoor seating and ample parking, which made the visit even more convenient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We also appreciated the refillable fountain drinks and the clean restrooms.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only downside was that the condiments weren't available for self-service--you have to ask the staff for them. Other than that, it was a great experience, and we'd happily come back.

I used to eat at The Hat in Alhambra when I was growing up. I always loved their Pastrami Dip sandwiches. We happened to be in the area, so we decided to pick up lunch. We ordered a Pastrami Dip and a small order of Fries. The pastrami was really good, but I don't like soggy bread. I should've asked for the au jus on the side. The fries were just okay. The portion size was huge. We ordered a small. I can't even imagine how many fries they give you if you order the large size. I'm sure we will visit this location again. However, next time, I will order the au jus on the side. I'll also order onion rings instead of fries.

Amazing as always. If you're in the mood for some pastrami, hot dogs, or just want to be a fatty with some chili cheese fries, then make your way to the hat! Can't forget about the great quick customer service

I traveled for 25 minutes and subsequently waited in line for an additional 20-30 minutes, influenced by numerous positive reviews regarding the chili cheese fries offered at this establishment. The pastrami itself was satisfactory. However, the chili cheese fries did not meet expectations; they primarily consisted of fries with a minimal, moist topping, and the cheese was largely lost due to inadequate to-go packaging, adhering entirely to the wrapper. From my perspective, the journey was not justified. The customer service, however, was commendable, particularly the gentleman at the drive-thru, who was exceptionally courteous.

Review 12/365 Day Challenge Met up my in laws on a Sunday noon for lunch. The place was fully packed indoor and outdoor umbrella seating outside. My hubby loves Pastrami Sandwiches. He's been a fan of THE HAT way before we've started dating. Him and his brother loves The Hat for their World Famous Pastrami Dip. Use to drive from La Mirada to Brea for it. What we ordered ~ Pastrami sandwich in my opinion is a little bit salty but I'm not a pastrami sandwich connoisseur. My husband does say it's one of the best. Must enjoy it w the dip, i feel makes a huge difference. ~ Chili Fries is pretty huge! With dice onions on top with mother Load of cheese & chili. Definitely can be shared by 3-4 people if not that hungry. ~ Orange Bang is sweet but refreshing. My oldest son loves this drink. I like to let the ice dissolve to water down the drink tad a bit so it can be a little bit less sweet. Service was fast taking order and got our items within a good time frame since it was during rush hour, weekend Sunday noon = lunch time. Drive thru available. Located next to Ted Craig Regional Park in its own building. All in all. Do recommend THE HAT if you love a good pastrami sandwich and the dip is a must. Makes eating a pastrami sandwich to a whole different level. One suggestion I'd make if they can offer pepperoncinis to give the pastrami sandwich a kick of spice especially to those like mee, love some spice with my eateries.

Garsshhh, I wish there was one of these close to home! Came through this 'hood for lunch at Fogo across the street, and when I saw this place, it was a must stop. And I'll be honest: I couldn't get it out of my mind during that lunch run. So after that disappointing experience at Fogo, hopped in the car and drove across the way to pick up grub for dinner. Their drive thru line was a mile long (which is an awesome sign) but I much preferred to come in. The inside was poppin' as well with most of the tables occupied. Got in line, got three orders of pastrami with sauce on the side, an order of large fries and chili cheese fries. I reminisced my first experience with The Hat as I waited. Hubbers was near their Pasadena location and stopped by to surprise me with a sandwich before coming home. That sammich so good, couldn't let this opp pass! Like mentioned, there were lots of customers so it was only natural every member of staff was busy. Kinda cool watching them work in synchronicity, each and every one of them aware of each other's space. Impressive. PASTRAMI: Ordered the sauce on the side because it was about an hour drive home and didn't want it soggy. The bread held the proteins well. The amount of meat was generous, soft and so juicy, and seasoned so very nicely. ONION RINGS: Ordered a large and it occupied more than half the brown bag they were packed in. Nicely sized and seasoned battered pieces. A couple of pieces were a bit overcooked/burnt but no biggie. Awesome crunch and flavor. Recommending. Hubbers ordered the chili cheese fries but with the long drive home, it was natural for the cheese to be coagulated by the time we got home. No worries: he nuked for a few and good as new! He enjoyed that as well. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. VALUE: 4. PARKING: Private lot. Not an issue. OVERALL: 4.25. Granted I had their goodies way later in the day, it was still so SOOOOOO GOOD!!! I guess one can say this place was a saving grace for the disappointing eats across the street. So happy for the discovery. Definitely keeping this spot on my radar.

There's not much I can say about The Hat that hasn't already been said 1000 times. The Hat is the gold standard when it comes to pastrami chili cheese fries and it has been that way since I can remember. I have one order here and that hasn't changed in decades. Just writing this review makes me drool

Very affordable and tasty! The burger tastes like a classic mom & pop restaurant. About $6 for a burger so very reasonably priced. The large fries were amazing! Thick and fluffy and fed all 4 of us. There were so many fries in the bag, they really fill it up. The onion rings were so crispy and delicious. Service was good, they were moving the drive through at a good pace. The outside looked very nice and clean. Overall, 10/10, another large fry bag!

Came here for a quick and inexpensive dinner.Chili Fries are always a must and they always give enough to feed 4-5 people easy. Add some cheese and some Pastrami and you definitely got yourself a meal. I enjoy getting a chili tamale and many times, there's enough chili to take care of those naked fries that didn't get enough or any chili at all from your chili fries. Win-Win. Wash everything down with an ice cold drink! It's a tradition for me to get the Wild Cherry soda and my BF loves his Orange Bang. Go home with a full happy tummy but if you are prone to IBS or anything, take some precaution! Haha

This is our first time here(hubby and I), and I'm no pastrami expert but wow!! The pastrami dip sandwich was delish!! Why? Because it was tender and moist and the bread was not hard to chew on!! The size of sandwich is medium size, not humongous like the ones at Deli Restaurants, which is perfect for someone who gets full fast. There is also a Drive-thru section too(it was busy with tons of cars on Saturday evening). And we also ordered Orange Bang...haven't had or seen that in ages!! The one I wanted was Pina Colada flavor, but they were out. We ordered their regular fries and that was also good. I apologize if you see double pictures because I thought I posted them already and I don't see it on my end. Fun place lots and lots of people. Depending how busy, may have to wait for someone to finish eating to get a table. There were outside tables too.

Ask the Community - The Hat

    Are they open on Thanksgiving?

Yes, they're Google. Page says they're open.

What delivery services are used by The Hat from Brea (closest) to Westminster? The Yelp site shows that delivery is available.....

Yes, it's the closest however, I don't know if they'll deliver that far. Besides most of the items that you order, there will be soggy by the time you get them it's better to visit the location if you can and eat the food when it's fresh.

Are they open New Year's Day? (2024)

    Yes there are open today

Is it open today Dec 24?

    Yes they are.

What is the pastrami dip? Is it a sauce or?

A pastrami dip is when the bread is dipped into the au jus while the sandwich is prepared. Most restaurants serve it this way, only some call it a 'dip.'

What time do they close during covid-19? I tried to call but no answer.

    1 am

Is the pastrami made from beef or pork?

    Beef

Are they on grub hub or door dash?

I don't know I have always gone in.

I ordered the tagliatelle, and my boyfriend ordered the oxtail. Trust all the other reviews and order the oxtail--you won't be disappointed! I was torn between the tagliatelle and the chicken and grits, but I skipped the chicken because I wasn't sure I'd like the grits. Kayla surprised me by bringing out a small sample so I could try them, which was such a thoughtful gesture. That's the kind of service that keeps people coming back. The atmosphere was perfect. We went on a Friday night, and there was a DJ playing music at just the right volume--it created a fun vibe without being too loud. We even received complimentary shots! We also learned that the owner and general manager have their own liquor brand that's only available at the restaurant, which was such a cool touch. This has officially become my new favorite spot in Brea. Highly recommend!

We sat for over **20 minutes** without anyone coming to our table--not even to offer water. I eventually had to get up and ask someone to send a server over. What made it even more frustrating was watching other parties who arrived **15-20 minutes after us** receive water immediately and have their orders taken before anyone even acknowledged our table. After finally waiting another 10 minutes to receive our water, we had to track down our server again just to place our food order because no one returned to check on us. By that point, we had been sitting long enough and were more than ready to order. To make matters worse, we ordered an appetizer of coconut shrimp about five minutes after placing our entrée order, but it never arrived. After we had already finished our meals, we asked to cancel it, only to be told that our server had never entered the order in the first place. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the poor service. It lacked flavor and was very underwhelming. This experience was frustrating enough that I cannot recommend Reunion Kitchen. I initially wanted to believe this was simply an off day or an inexperienced server, but after hearing from two other people I know who described nearly identical experiences, it seems this may be a recurring issue. One thing that left me especially uncomfortable was seeing guests who arrived well after us receive prompt attention while our table was repeatedly overlooked. I can't say why that happened, but it certainly made us question whether we were being treated differently. I sincerely hope the restaurant looks into its service standards and ensures every guest is treated with the same level of respect and attention.

My experience was underwhelming…read more The inside decor was fun and the restaurant is big, Plenty of seating throughout, combination of tables, booths and at the bar. Definitely a place you can come watch sports or hang out with big groups. My husband and I came in on a weekday, a little before 8 for dinner. There were probably 5-7 parties throughout the restaurant and 2 people at the bar. No host at the front. Servers working at bar and a server walking around. No acknowledgment from staff or even a glance our direction. We decided to wait a few more minutes, if no one helps us we will leave. A few minutes later, a server quickly walks from the back. He grabs menus and takes us to a table. I liked that the booth was huge for just the 2 of us. I didn't like that the restaurant was pretty empty and we were seated by the bathroom and in front of the kitchen. Our server was Bryce and he was nice. We ordered: Steak fajitas - read a lot of reviews about this and it was just okay. I'm not sure what I was expecting. It's definitely a serving for 1. The steak was tough, but the veggies had flavor and cooked perfectly. The tortilla was also good. I ended up eating the veggies with the tortilla without the steak. It comes with small ramekins of sour cream, guacamole & the black bean salsa - which was more like a purée. Deviled eggs - so, I love deviled eggs. If it's on the menu at any restaurant, I always order them. These were very runny. The flavor was good, but the texture of the yolk was like baby food. I wouldn't order again. Grilled cheese & soup - this was good. Very cheesy. I thought the glasses for the drinks were cute. I drank about 1/2 my coke and noticed the glass was dirty with specs of food, both inside the glass and outside. My cloth napkin also had stains. We are local, so if our friends wanted to come back, we might try it again, but this would not be my first choice.

Life happened, years passed, and somehow I never made it back. Fast forward to today: I was driving my Tesla, jokingly asked Grok to take me somewhere for a beer, and it pointed me right back here. Walking in felt like revisiting a place that had been quietly waiting in the background of my story. The centerpiece is still the incredible bar. Shelves stacked floor to ceiling with whiskey bottles, glowing green tile behind the taps, warm lighting, and enough character that you can spend half your time simply looking around. It's the kind of room that feels both energetic and comfortable at the same time. I grabbed a seat at the bar, watched a soccer match on the TVs, and ordered an Old Fashioned. It arrived exactly the way I hoped it would: large clear ice cube, generous orange peel, balanced and smooth without trying too hard. Just a well-made classic cocktail. What stood out most was the atmosphere. These days I'm much more likely to be exploring hiking trails, photographing wildflowers, or driving mountain roads than spending time in bars. Twelve years ago, places like this were a much more regular part of my life. Coming back reminded me why I enjoyed them in the first place. Good conversation, a comfortable seat, a quality drink, and no rush to be anywhere else. The beer taps looked extensive, the whiskey selection seemed endless, and the entire place struck a balance between neighborhood pub and whiskey destination. Funny how a random AI navigation suggestion brought me back to a place I'd been meaning to revisit for over a decade. Glad it finally did. 5 stars.

We waited forever just to get water, and it somehow took even longer for the food. Then the food actually showed up... and wow. Bland, overpriced, and somehow still cold. It tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp since last week. For a restaurant attached to a Hilton, I expected at least basic quality, but this felt like cafeteria food with steakhouse prices. To make things worse, the staff acted like helping customers was a huge inconvenience. No check-ins, no refills, no effort. Just vibes of "please eat and leave." Between the slow service, disappointing food, and ridiculous prices, this place feels like a tourist trap hiding in a hotel lobby. Save your money and eat literally anywhere else in Brea. Even a gas station snack run would be a better experience.

Came for a girls lunch date earlier to this weekend and this spot did not disappoint!…read more THE SERVICE: 5/5 - Quick, friendly, accommodating, and our waiter made a real effort to engage in conversation with us. The FOOD: 4.5/5 | Drinks: 5/5 Off the appetizers, we had the pork belly bites and dirty fries! First dish came with a long hot pepper, several mini tortillas, and 2 dipping sauces. The pork was crunchy on the outside and soft+succulent on the inside. I can see myself doubling up on this appetizer the next time I come. Dirty fries were great; it came with a generous amount of pickled onions - providing a really nice contrast to the savoriness of our meal. Our waiter graciously accommodated our request to have the egg on the side. Off the entrée/taco menu, my friend ordered the Korean tacos and I got the Ensenada (fish) tacos. But you can also order the Ensenada tacos with shrimp. These were delicious, I would have loved a little more lime crema to go with the fish - but not a big deal. I got a Watermelon Margarita. I wasn't expecting it to be HUGE, but it was the perfect amount considering how much food we as a pair ordered. My friend ordered the La Toxica table side cocktail and one additional mango cocktail. Table side cocktail was a whole show and my friend really enjoyed it. We had a great lunch at Tempo Cantina. I can't wait to try more of their bar menu, maybe even at night when the restaurant is lively

It didn't taste as good and wasn't as juicy sadly. The sauces were still consistent but the pork belly itself was a bit lackluster from before Tinga taquitos- these used to be so juicy, the chicken inside was a bit dry and the tortilla itself was too thick. U def need to use the sauces they provide to offset the dryness Grilled Octopus- this dish was good, octopus was juicy but portion was a bit small for what it was. It also came with sweet potato fries Loaded fries- idk what I was expecting but these were just fries with buffalo chicken nuggets on top. Don't get me wrong this was decent and the buffalo chicken was tangy and juicy! Thirsty Thursday deals happen all day $7 margs and you know I had to get some. Mango was the sweetest, strawberry was not bad, guava was the best in balance of flavor in sweetness and alcohol. Overall not a bad experience but note if u haven't came here in a while, the food quality has changed sadly

Toast has become a great location that my family and I frequent at, specifically Sundays…read more I originally came to speak praises on how accommodating the staff is despite how busy this location can become (I have also been to 'Story' in Anaheim). However, reading the below post, I would like to comment on my perspective, because I was a table sitting right next to the latest post. I watched as you made the hostess move you twice in the same area. I watched as you waited 20 minutes for your own party. I watched as you interrupted the waitress multiple times as she was serving the tables beside you, including mine. I watched as you chased down the man in the suit after you called over three other servers that assured you of the busy time. I also watched three other people bring out all your food, and you yell at them "NO" and told the server to "go away. Youre missing the game now" I also watched you yell at the man in the suit. He did nothing but smile, as someone should when being disrespected in his place of business. The tables around were staring because of your behavior or tantrum. Yelp is for reviews of food and honest feedback. Not to throw a tantrum because of impatience or maybe because you wanted a free meal. This is not fair to this location or staff that tried to remedy your outburst which caused your family to leave. I will return here again and again, and really could not stand to read someone bashing this place because of a busy Sunday. This place is always booming on Sundays, reservations are a must and wait times are EXPECTED. The food is worth the wait and the service is extremely warming during the wait. Thank you TOAST and the owners for your establishment!!

The Short Rib chilaquiles are very tasty, and the flavors complemented each other so well. I would definitely get this again. It was a somewhat large plate so easily shareable between 2! I ordered the Mexican Mocha latte with oat milk, and it wasn't the most flavorful - it was a mild flavor. I liked it but wasn't my favorite. My mom ordered the steak & eggs, and she thought it was very filling and tasty. A little plain though but to be expected with a steak and eggs, she was expecting a thicker cut.

What a unique German restaurant right in Brea…read more It instantly reminded me of the Hofbräuhaus in Vegas with its friendly and welcoming food hall. I'm not super familiar with German cuisine, but everything felt authentic and traditional. I ordered their popular Ruben sandwich, served hot with corned beef, sauerkraut, and a Russian dressing on rye bread. It was delicious and packed with meat and flavor. The fries that came along with it were so crispy and tasty. I also tried the breaded veal cutlet, which is a German specialty. Both dishes were very good and hearty. They also have a great beer selection on draft. I went with the Spaten Pilsner, which paired perfectly with the meal. I love that each of their beers is served in its own branded glass. It was just super filling, I wasn't able to finish everything. Overall, a great experience and definitely a spot I'd come back to and try their various specialties (like their sausages) !

It is very dim inside the environment, but the noise level was loud which was great for the group dinner i went for. The grilled oysters, center ribeye, Brussel sprouts, and creamed spinach was delicious! I would not get the charcuterie board or the gnocchi again just pricey for what it was. Now they have about ten choices for desserts but i loved the huge slice of carrot cake over the warm butter cake although that was good too. Overall the establishment was clean and the service was fast and everybody was friendly and professional. I will be coming back for sure.
