1 STAR -- Extremely disappointing and concerning experience My family and I have been coming to Perry's Place for years, which makes what happened today even more disappointing. The service was decent, but the food was terrible. The steak from the steak and eggs was mostly a blob of fat, but the worst and most concerning part was my waffle. While eating it, I noticed multiple small, hard black pieces baked directly into the waffle. At first I thought it was burnt grease from the griddle, but after examining the pieces closely, I realized they appeared to be plastic. I immediately called our waitress over and showed her. She took one of the pieces from my finger, examined it herself, and confirmed to me that it was plastic. She said she would speak to the cook and have them change the batter. What was almost as upsetting as finding plastic in my food was how the situation was handled afterward. I never received an apology. No manager came over to speak with us. No one proactively offered a refund or seemed particularly concerned about the fact that a customer had just been served food with a foreign object baked into it. The waitress simply came back and asked if I wanted pancakes instead. Before we left, I had to ask my husband to go to the cashier and follow up about getting a refund for the waffle. Only after we specifically asked was an adjustment/refund finally provided. Shortly after leaving the restaurant, I began vomiting uncontrollably. I cannot say for certain what caused me to become sick, but the timing--immediately after this meal and after discovering what appeared to be plastic baked into my food--was extremely upsetting and concerning. Mistakes can happen in any restaurant, but when something this serious happens, I would expect genuine concern, an apology, and a manager to address the situation immediately. Instead, we felt as though the issue was brushed aside. After years of coming here, this experience and especially the lack of customer care afterward have left my family and me not wanting to return. They checked on me several times during my meal, making sure everything was just right. The food came out fresh and hot, with generous portions that really hit the spot. With a suggestive amount of gravy... The biscuits and gravy didn't change my life, but was deeply satisfying - even a day later. This was our second time here and we ordered the same thing both times, and it was consistent, even months apart. We got the #5 (1/2 order biscuits and gravy, two eggs, three sausages) and a waffle. The biscuits and gravy is very good, although I think it would be better if the gravy had sausage chunks in it, for a bit more texture. The biscuits don't have any crunch, but the flavor is still very good. The sausage is typical diner sausage and same for the eggs, which I ordered over medium (instead of over easy), because they tend to cook the egg a little less than I like. I ate exactly half of it one day and half the next day. I was surprised at how well the leftovers held up. I almost felt like it was better the second day, if not the same. The waffle was pretty standard, and it smells amazing, like cinnamon (I don't know if there's cinnamon in it, but it smells very good and we enjoyed that as well, with the butter and syrup they provided. I also like to get their breakfast with either pancakes or french toast. I ask for extra butter (because I'm more into butter than syrup) and it hits every time. My partner loves their chicken fried steak and eggs. They have fountain soda drinks, good coffee, and fresh brewed iced tea with lemon slices if you like yours that way. This place is always very clean too. The staff is on top of it, clearing tables and coming around to refill coffee or grab anything you need for your meal. They are really friendly as well.
